Not so long ago he was praising the Yacht-Master 40 (quite rightly) to the skies, now it’s apparently a cliche? A friend of mine has a submariner and lost count of the number of people who ask him if it’s a fake. As a “Yachtie Blue Dial” owner, that is a question I have yet to hear, I just get congratulated on my choice of watch. And no Archie, I didn’t go to a private school.
I had the same reaction. If any Rolex is a cliche these days it seems to be the Sub. I was waiting on a Sub until I tried the YM40, and I moved my name to the YM list. SO comfy!
The Yacht 40 blue/red is gorgeous, and makes the sub look juvenile. And it’s always good to have some precious metals in there. It makes sub wearers pull down their sleeves.
I don't think it's a good alternative to a submariner, as it's an entirely different watch... It's undoubtedly more refined and the case is PERFECT. The sub will always be an icon in it's own right. I think whoever asked you this question is misinformed.
Archie should get the toilet master next, he’s always taking toilet breaks during his beg-a-thons. It has a brown dial and a water resistance of 3 bar…it case you miss the bowl and splash the watch.
I didn't go to a private school, yet I chose the YM over a Sub. The Sub is victim of its own success, it's too iconic for its own good, making it is vastly more cliché than the YM. The Sub has lost its mojo, it's no longer cool. Everyone and their mother have one. It doesn't feel special anymore. The YM on the other hand brings some novelty and adds class and elegance to the utilitarian looking black Sub. Don't be sheeple. If you prefer the YM over the black Sub, get the YM.
Good video, Arch. Get the watch that speaks to you. If it's the Yahtmaster, it'll be a great companion. I personally rather have 200m or better water resistance. Not that I swim deeper than 10-15 feet, but read that the impact from jumping or diving into water is important and well I'm paranoid and the cost of fixing my watch full of saltwater is not appealing in the least.
that is the sleeper observation. YM is more comfortable, and if you own both a Sub and a YM, you are gonna shrug every time you switch the YM in for the Sub, and you say to yourself, "damn, that thing is just more comfortable!" ...
The Yatchmasyer is not a Tool Watch was crated for the owners of the Yatch personally I owned a Yatch Master Rhodium dial blue letters is one of my favorites but if I compare with my Submariner totally 2 different Watches
The average Joe can get a yacht master at the AD but a sub is unobtainable so yeah, it’s a good alternative if you must get a Lolex and don’t like getting phisted by the codpiece gentleman or any of his grey market buddies. Archie likes that sort of thing but many don’t. Rolex hasn’t made a “sports” watch in ages. Too expensive and too much value retention for that.
The sub is somewhat boring. The YM has a personality. It rounded case is beautiful. The platinum bezel is big and bold. Both the blue and rhodium dials combos with the colors of the seconds hand are loud and unique. The polished center links match the entire look of the watch. You buy the YM when you look at a Sub and ask for more bling. The sub hands down is one of the best watches in the world. But not everyone wants a sub. Some need that extra oomph that the YM provides
Why are watch people so obsessed with 'under the radar'? Who cares if anyone else knows what's on your wrist? Are you scared of the big bad boys with sticks? FMD, if I pay for gold I want it to be yellow, and not just some version of yellow, but YELLOW. That's what gold is. Why pay for white gold and have nobody know the blasted thing cost a fortune? Madness.
I freaking dislike Yatchmasters with a passion. The old Platinum model is not bad , but the red seconds hand is obnoxious . Plus, all the people that I met wearing Yatchmasters were doucheb#gs. I would much rather have a pre ceramic Sub date or no date, or alternatively a Sea Dweller pre ceramic. A Yatchmaster without a yatch, is also a bit of a joke, if you ask me.
Us yacht owners don’t wear the YM, I give them to my deck hands. Squale is the real choice of cruising enthusiasts

The YM has a Triplock screwdown crown, same as the Sea-Dweller's. Also a screwdown caseback. You can jump in the water all you want.
