It would be no stretch, no lie, no fib, and no misrepresentation to say that between 1966 to 1975 I listened to this forgotten gem no less then 372 times! Easy!!! We damned near worn that album OUT!!!! Such great tunes I remember, but were nearly forgotten after 54 years!!! " I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog", "She Hangs Out". And about a dozen other tunes we wore the grooves out on on that 1 album alone!!!! So underrated a band in history! You brought me such happiness and joy in my youth!!!! And you got to live a long, fruitful life!!!! May the Monkees live forever??!!!!
He was always my favorite Monkee. I admire him for getting the others to all gang up on Don Kirshner and finally getting the chance to play their own music.
What a great time to be alive. The Monkees had a TV show. The Beatles were still together. Original Star Trek was still on. The future looked bright. On the other hand, my older brother was far off fighting in Vietnam, so that kind of sucked. Rest in Peace Mike. Thanks for being part of the soundtrack of my childhood.

They were a good group. I grew up watching the TV show and had all their records. Very under-rated. Have to say ,would never figured Mickey would be the only one left.
Love The Monkees. They should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, years ago. However, I don't even feel that the hall is even relevant anymore.
Monkee or not Michael was a very unique artist. His singing is as unique as Johnny Cash or a Willie Nelson. Nobody sounds like Michael He not only helped create MTV but he created a new genre of music known as Country Rock. (Western Rock) First example being that from the first monkees album, for example "Sweet Young Thing" which predates anybody else. His music was the first to feature a Moog synthesizer. Daily Nighty' He like the rest of the Monkees still hold the record for most sold albums in a year by Billboard. He was an amazing artist. RIP Michael.
RIP Michael Nesmith. All of his songs from the Monkees were outstanding!! Underrated is certainly an overused term, but it applies to Mike in many ways.
If Nesmith hadn't joined the Monkees he surely would have been a musical legend who could have played with so many other legends. Whata' song writer!!!
The Monkees invented country-rock as early as "Papa Gene's Blues" and "Sweet Young Thing" (Nesmith's own tunes!) on their first album. By "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round?" they were experts at a genre that no-one else had even picked up yet, outside of a couple stray tracks from the Byrds and Springfield. Add that to their pioneering use of the Moog on the "Pisces" album and you get a band that was far more innovative and cutting-edge than they are EVER given credit for. The Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame should hang its head in shame.
RIP Mike Nesmith. Love you, man. Since I was a baby plopped down in front of the TV, up through when I stole my mom's copies of the Monkees albums, and all the while you were pioneering the music video format.

Micky is hilarious . I love him acting so goofy and waving. This spontaneity and the special connection these four had set them apart from other groups. I idolized the Monkees and saw them in concert in 1987 when Weird Al Yankovitch opened for them. Even saw mike and micky recently. Wish I could see micky on his own but have to wait for him to come east.
I always felt sorry for Michael Nesmith. He was the only member of the group who could play his instrument. You can tell he was not happy having to tolerate the other three. He always appeared to be the outsider. He never had to pretend he was playing his guitar, you could see him playing because he didn't turn hiss guitar away when the camera was on him. Unlike Peter Dork and Micky Dolenz. He will be sorely missed. RIP
