I got to see him a few months before he died in Knoxville TN with Micky . They were great!! I had the time of my life. A very special night for me and my daughter. Rip Michael. Always in my heart.
This was a huge hit in Australia in 1977 thanks to the famous music show "Countdown" & the afternoon rerunning of The Monkees t.v series, a great songwriter & musician, the music world is lesser without the great Mike Nesmith, Rest in peace.🙏 🎶🎸
Yes I fully agree, I was in my teens when the song came out and living in Wagga Wagga and I loved watching the video whenever it came on TV and heard it on the radio. He was a pure master musician. from David Newton in Sydney.
It's a mood, a flight of fancy, and a tour de force. The album that it's on may be a masterpiece. I always thought so...made me want to go to Rio. Haven't yet, but then again, I just might..
Australia definitely had strange taste whilst i was growing up here,i mean its not a bad song but #1 ? i was 9 when seeing this for the first time, the 70's in Australia definitely made some oddball songs recogniseable ,the Hustle was another strange success here,i could name a dozen songs that barely chartered in the U.S & Britain but were hits here, strange country alright, strange ppl.
Rip wool hat Surprising that no mention of this classic Naismith song in tributes. I believe it was the first mtv clip, he was a clever boy And the slide, Naismith trademark
Love his many styles young and slick in the 60s with the Monkees. His trademark facial mo and beard in 70s and 80s the Videos his Vocals and Guitar Work he's got to be up there with the Greats in Musics history of the last nearly 70 years
Yes. After all these years, I finally realize she is making a pun on the word "degenerate." But she didn't say "de" twice. She said, "...Rio, Rio deGENero."
Double Shot massive Songs in the bottom of the World this one and the excellent groovy Crusin.Mike magic his big hits in Australia and New Zealand on that, and the intention and invention made way and thank him for getting MTV and ideas fully loaded in the 80s on scales for the World to enjoy and see more Videos
The thing is, Nez wasn't a commercial songwriter. He was also a genre-hopper, as we see here. I honestly think his record companies didn't know how to promote him. It's a shame. Rolling Stone called his work with the First National Band "the best music you never heard." His work should have had wider recognition.
I have always loved this song, from a child to (a very old) adult. It's witty, it;s fun and it'd Mike bloody Nesmith

I think my mom went to that show, as well. She's always been a huge Nez fan. He was amazingly talented in so many ways.
I do hope that Mike's passing was as easy as flying to Rio with a bevy of angelic broads....Still miss him.

I love this song,he performs with such a straight face, that makes it so much funnier.
Such a darned good song - and beautifully crafted video.
Bloody legend. A talented and thoroughly nice guy.
Rare indeed and the world is worse now that he's left us. RIP Mike.
This always has been and always will be one of the greatest songs ever. My version of heaven has Rio on its soundtrack.
I love this song! He was always my favorite Monkee. His voice is so good!
Thus song always makes me ridiculously happy. And Joanne always turns me into a watering pot.
I just heard Joanne before this lol
He hit the nail on the head with this song. I first heard it when in my twenties and I'm sixty-five and it still sounds great.
Finally I can watch this video again 🥲
the best Monkee
Superb song and video, Nez so missed.
This and Papa Gene's Blues are two of my favorites
Such a beautiful mood to this song
A visionary artist.
I love him
Who’d have thought that Mike would turn out to be the handsome Monkee?
Just always loved this song. Its not a masterpiece but it hits all the right chords and makes me smile.

This and Silver moon were both hits in Denmark when I lived there in the seventies. Great production.
and reached number 1 in australia

@@paultreadaway102 Underrated not enough to describe this guy. He had some great songs the music industry did not promote.
@@robertandrew5768 for sure not enough praise recognition
I Have The Laserdisc 🤗
Don't anyone think of stealing it.
If you have Any Idea, what's on My Garden Hose 😏
... memories
I love this! I have never heard it until now! Love Mike's songs.
Ahem, I may have become slightly (!) obsessed with this song, but it is very good.
No harm done, enjoy
You, me and many many others! It's the very best. The cream on top! It'll never be equalled. Happy memories. 😊
What a talented dude. ❤️✌️
More musical gold. ❤
Just love this
Love the lyrics! Want to fly to Rio also!
That is just so cool!
I love this song and the video so much
This was meant to be the first ever "video" as in there is storyline as opposed to singer/band just singing
THE MAN.
Gets me asleep everytime the ocean at the end❤
Great vidio very colourful
Good old Mike
Not RENO dummy. Rio, Rio de DEGENero. So perfect!

Sounds like something George Harrison would've done on SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND or GONE TROPPO
Ah remember driving my MG little sports car in the summer this song came out with girlfriend in tow mmm memories
Love this song memories of a good time long long ago
🌸💃🕺🏻🌺
I always thought that Nesmith was the most talented of that group…
Why did he not reach a more respectable level within the music elite? Is there boxes he didn't click - it sure looks that way!
He spoke his mind, which does not aways work among the less talented people.

Reno

Adore this song. Been learning and playing at open mikes, life goes on...,
