I'm 52 and remember 33 years ago it was one of the songs highlighted on one of those infomecials at 1:00 am selling 1960s albums and I liked this song, and I remember when I was getting ready to go to bed when the sun came up after watching hours of those infomericals because thats all there was in 1991, I couldn't remember the name of the song, so when I went up to bed and my father was rolling out of his bed and I said Dad do you know a band called Status Quo? Do you know their song? He then rubbed his groggy head and said...Pictures of Matchstick Men.
A few days later I went down to an old sawdust on the floor record store 20 miles away and bought the 45 single.

Still waiting on today's music to take a drastic turn and go back to the era that was the absolute best, bar none!! The 60s were the best then, now and forever! No era had the talent, creativity and musical skills that the 60s had. I look for deep cuts or groups i've never heard of online and the sad part is,the so called obscure groups from back then will blow the doors off of the hinges when compared to anything today. I actually feel sorry for the younger generation today, yes, you missed out and yes it was as fantastic as you were told. Never to be repeated but at least we have the net to discover hidden gems from that era that we haven't heard yet.

@@alanstrom2221 Yes, Wiki, indicates #14 in Australia. The uniqueness of this song is the very early used of flanging, or phasing, of the guitar effect.
