Yes, many don't recall or understand that September 12, 1966 was when the first episode was broadcast. While singles were released leading up to the debut of the show, the first album was released in October, 1966. Over the mid-year filming break in December 1966, they flew to Hawaii and played a full concert of thier hits at the time. While Mike and Peter were established as musicians before filming began, the concert demonstrated a collective level of musicianship before the second album was released in January, 1967.
The song was written by Carole King & iDavid Geffen the summer they rented a house in West Orange +, New Jersey. One of the main drags in town is Pleasant Valley Way. 😊
LOVE IT!! Man, the drummer really has Micky's vocals down perfect. Wow. ... but what's up with they guy in black just rattling a tambourine? I've heard of the fifth Beatle, but the fifth Monkee?
Their goal is to look like the Monkees on stage but have the music sound like the records, that's why the two extra guys. Boyce & Hart's band used to do the same for the Monkees on stage back in the day.
This is a great song. Not necessarily an easy song... the instrumental part is pretty good. Vocals need some work here... again, not an easy song! Keep at it... Love The Monkees!
I was unaware of how much Michael and Peter didn’t get along, yet when Davy passed away Micheal made a point of acknowledging how Peter was the most developed musician of the band “by an order of magnitude!”
There's a guy playing a guitar that's obscured behind the keyboard player, he looks like he's doing the harmonies as well. A lot of their songs featured two guitar tracks, so that 'second' is needed and he should be up front in a red shirt, too. (I'd give them a pass on a 5th band member).
Davy never played the bass.. Peter did. He was also late on the backup vocals. I'm not sure what the guy in the back next to the Micky clone is doing with his arm. it looks like he's shaking the maracas
Davy did play bass, live, in the late 60s when Peter quit. Somebody had to! Just like Micky had to learn to play drums, Davy learned to play bass. You can find pics of him playing bass if you look for 'em.
dudes if u r going to using backing tracks at least have someone pretend to sing backing vocals when we can clearly hear 2 singers but only one is singing onstage !!
Mickey auditioned for the show by playing a guitar and singing Johnny B. Goode. Mike of course was already a composer, musician and performer. Peter played guitar and performed with Stephen Stills in Greenwich Village. They were part of a group called The Buffalo Fish. And Davy was a song and dance man who performed stage musicals in England.
@@kurtb8474 Yep, Micky was in a band before auditioning. One of the guys said in an interview that if it were up to them, Micky would have been the lead singer, Davy would be on drums (Peter had tutored Micky and Davy on playing drums) and Mike and Pete would switch (Pete playing guitar as Mike said he was a much better guitarist).
Ron is doing the other vocals and acoustic (behind Peter). Doug chose to play the electric guitar part instead of the vocal at the end. NO ONE has ever played that guitar riff and sang the vocal part at the same time. The syncopation is too difficult. That's why there are 2 extra guys on stage-to cover the other parts.
The Monkee Mens "joke" about going back to a time when "Boys liked girls. Girls liked boys and the only thing that swung both ways was Tarzan" was anything but humorous. It came across as hateful and ignorant. My hopes are that they take note on how ill received that joke was and find a more harmonious and kind way to fill in space between songs.

Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again. People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent. Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days Take a little Sunday spin, Go to watch the Dodgers win. Have yourself a dandy day That cost you under a fin. Hair was short and skirts were long. Kate Smith really sold a song. I don't know just what went wrong Those Were the Days"
I've been listening to the Monkees since the 60s. And wow! These guys have it!
Love it! The guy singing it has a great voice and he knows how to do it !!
The Monkees did play their instruments on their 3rd album and after . Also they played their instruments when they toured live .

These guys have the Monkees down to a tee....and I'm old enough to remember the real Monkees....

Gerry goffin
Heard of that composer of funeral music - Gerry Coffin! Straight from the graveyard of humour!
Nailed It!
Cool. The Davy guy rocked!
Love it
Encantadores fantasticos talentosos, excelentes, fascinantes 1:52 i love ❤ the monkees!!!
Awesome

There is also one playing the guitar so now we have six

Awsome
hahaha that green cap!
Had the original. This is very good.
Peter could play several instruments
So can a million other people. His singing voice sucked!
I was unaware of how much Michael and Peter didn’t get along, yet when Davy passed away Micheal made a point of acknowledging how Peter was the most developed musician of the band “by an order of magnitude!”
Am I missing something? Who is doing the backing vocal during the second verse, before the Bassist/Davy comes in?
Good question...I've noticed the same thing.

Certainly acceptable! I was worried it was a lip sync or using a backing track. Thanks!
Yeah, not bad at all, plus being 72 with bad eyes bad hearing and smoked up does help

Not bad sounding for a phone. Pity about the audience member adding their vocal to things.

Funny, these guys can play instruments something that the Monkees initially couldn't do other than Mike Nesmith.
I'm a musician and the Monkees all could play except for davy who was a professional entertainer and Peter was a multi-instrumentalist. Bob
They were hired for a tv program and cast to different instruments than the ones they already played.

Tork was a classically trained musician and could play eight instruments.
The outfits are superior to the vocals
Mike sings both on the record and on stage. But this 'Mike' doesn't. Not very authentic!!
Be curious, not judgemental.
Ron McNeil is doing "Mike's" vocals.

@@jackieforestieri3010 Look into some history. You will be very surprised.
Get over yourself.
Terrible signing… sorry.
I suppose you can do a better job of singing.
I didn't see anyone doing signing for the deaf!
Wow! Awful 😞
Yikes!
