- This weeks video is a Q&A with my mom, a registered nurse with 30 some years of experience! This is part 1 of a 2 part interview series with her. In the comments, I have time stamped the different questions for convenience :) In today’s video we talked about what kind of nursing she’s done, what her favorite specialties are, some tips for dealing with challenging co-workers and surgeons, what shifts she has worked, and lots about Nurse Practitioners. It was really fun interviewing her, and I hope you enjoy and learn something from it as well!

Maybe I’m just a total weirdo but your mom has such a calming voice! 😂 I feel like that’s a good quality to have as a nurse! I love this video so much because of how knowledgeable she is!
She does have a super calming voice! It’s been very handy for the many meltdowns over the years haha.
yes!!! she does right.
I agree! I was thinking the same.
Your mom seems like a sweetheart! She definitely has a very kind and calm demeanor! Look forward to part II! Thanks for letting us in on your moms nursing advice. It’s defintely interesting to hear experienced nurses point of view.
She is usually! I certainly know how to push her buttons though 😂🙂. Thanks for watching!!
Your mom is amazing, I can tell she is full of knowledge. I love chatting with experienced nurses.
It was so cool to chat with her! She definitely knows a thing or two 😉, who knew? Thanks for watching!
She also has gentle and soothing demeanor, which is very calming. It’s a pleasure listening to her.
I'm with everyone else here. Your mom and her calming voice!
If she's looking for a volunteer activity for her retirement years, my 2 cents = taking calls for a suicide prevention hotline. Seriously.
I’ll tell her!!
Love your mom!! She has such a caring and positive demeanor. You can tell she was great at her job. Very informative. Can't wait for part 2.
I love her too! So glad you liked it! Part two she gets a bit more opinionated, it’s fun 😉
Awesome!! Can't wait...lol!!
//love how your mom talks...so soothing.
I know! I love it ❤️
Thank you for this video. I enjoyed hearing your mom’s diverse nursing experience. I specially love her answer to why she chose nursing over physician ( I like to chat too and that always reminds me why nursing fits my personally). She has the great qualities of an excellent nurse- competent, self aware, great observational skills and a people’s person. Thank you for this very informative video.
My favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate.
So glad you enjoyed it! You are correct that chocolate is the superior flavor🙂
Loved this! Agreed, your mom has such a calming voice. 😊 Thank you both for sharing your knowledge and insight. Can't wait for part 2. 😁
Thanks for watching!! Part two is definitely more opinionated 😉
14:45 I LOVED her response, especially getting to know how the docs would treat patients. That experience is priceless! RIGHT ON MOM! 😁
I know! She knows a thing or two. Who knew?? 😂
😁 silly
This was such a great idea! So interesting to hear about your mom's experience being a nurse! Like you Liz, I could never do OR mostly because of the smell of burning flesh (electrocautery).. but there is a place for every nurse and that truly is the beauty of nursing💜
So true!! So glad you liked it 🙂
Omg ur mom has one of those “accidental ASMR” voices! Lol I love it!
You two are wonderful. I’m considering nursing later in life and find your videos very helpful.
I loved the q&a! You're mom seems like such a sweetheart! I admire all of her experiences. I'm looking forward to part two. Btw I love chocolate icecream with brownie bits in it. 😋
She is pretty great! And you would be welcomed in our family with your chocolate passion 😂❤️
Yay. Great video. Thanks to Mom for her time and her knowledge and dedication.
Indeed! I was super grateful she was willing to do it! Thanks for watching 🙂
What a lovely mother daughter interview/ relationship. I was taking classes at community college- to become a nurse, when my mother died. After being in the hospital with her, I stopped the whole process- i was discouraged by things i saw. But, after years passed, I am rethinking it;-)
Great vid!!! Cnt wait to watch part 2....fav ice cream is vanilla & chocalate mixed and cookie dough
Delish! Thanks for watching 🙂
Aww, l💓ve this video ☺
Most perfect collaboration 🙌🏽
Fascinating nursing background your mum has, soooooo awesome! 😀

You are more a nurse than many! Don't discount your skills!
I loved this. Your mom seems to be such a genuinely sweet and caring person, I think you both chose the absolute perfect careers. Thank you for sharing so much knowledge and experience with us. It's seeing stuff like this that gets me super excited to keep going. And on that note...off to rewrite pharm notes and med cards lol
P.S. Can we ask her more about her time in peri op? It's one of the many specialties that I'm very very interested in. Would love to hear more about what a day would look like
P.S.S Haha! My favorite ice cream flavors are mint chocolate chip (but never the green mint, it has to be the white mint), coffee but only whipped cream and chocolate chip cookie dough
I’m so glad you liked it!! I’ll ask her about the peri op, and see if she has anything to add. We already filled the second half, but maybe next time! Looove coffee ice cream, and I didn’t even know they had white mint chocolate chip 😳. Good luck with your pharm notes!
awww Love your mama she seems like a calm sweet understanding and AMAZING nurse and mom! thanks for sharing your wisdom with all of us, both of you :-)
ohhh FAVORITE Ice Cream.....cold and ANYkind its Ice Cream for gosh sake ;-) enjoy
I’m with you. Any ice cream is wonderful
Awe, I like that your mom is also a nurse!
It’s pretty fun!
Your mom is the cutest!
I love mint chocolate chip ice cream! (Even though some say it tastes like toothpaste...) also I spent 6 months in Greensboro NC last year and we loved Maple View Farm in Hillsborough for homemade ice cream!! It might be a bit of a drive but it’s worth it!
I’ll have to go make a trip out there and try it!! I love all things that taste like toothpaste so I am right there with your 😂
Your mom is soo sweet. God bless you ❤️
she is!!
Loved your video,,,Favorite ice cream, I mix at home--Vanilla with coconut and walnuts added, mix and let set overnight. Ohhhhh so GOOD!

The random earthquake drills got me! 😂.
Third week ABSN student, literally was just complaining about all the "garbage" classes we need to take lol
there is a TON of it.
I am having my favourite ice cream snack now... Ben and Jerry's The Tonight Dough ice cream smeared between 2 chocolate chip cookies 🥰😍
that sounds heavenly!
Loved this video
Yay!
So Delicious Salted Caramel Cluster! SO YUMMY!
That sounds awesome!
I’m doing an mde program and I’m really scared I won’t know how to do anything without the experience as an RN. But I already have a bachelors and am 26 and time isn’t on my side to get a bsn and I really want to do nursing. Please let me know your advice on this!
I don't think time is against you at all! I would look for a program that allows for you to get your RN (you need this anyway to be an NP) and allows you to work while obtaining your NP. That way you are able to pick up some experience along the way, but its one continuous program!
We’re family of nurses too! When my sisters and I have dinner together, our husbands are prepared to hear different kinds of stories depending on which unit which sister 😂
There are still diploma programs. Actually one in my state, PA.
That’s wild! I’m not sure how I feel about that 🧐. I had no idea!
St. Luke's School of Nursing. It's accredited and hospital based. I know a few friends that graduated from there and speak highly of the program, a lot of clinical experience.
Danielle Clifton that’s super interesting! Thanks!
Did your mother had to take NCLEX to be licensed as a nurse to practice or work in her field?
Yep! She took the nclex.
favorite ice cream . . . cookies and cream ✨
So good!!
Would you recommend ADN or BSN?
I have a whole video on this if you want to check it out! I think bsn should be the goal, but depending on your situation/location adn can be a great stepping stone!
@@NurseLiz thank you!!! I recently gotten my high school equivalency!! I am studying for my act. So , I can go on to school for my RN degree! Just wondering , if I should get my ADN first. Or just go for my bsn from the start. Thank you for reply!! I love your videos!! I am from Alabama.
Awesome! Best of luck with everything!
I have huge respect for nurses, but I feel the work hours should never be more than 8 hrs a day. There is a reason labor rules allows eight hours everywhere because one tires physically and mentally and only 12 hours are left for the rest of the day. Atleast eight hours of sleep is required and then one is left only four hours. Cooking, eating food, bathing, exercise. Just imagine where the rest of the time is gone. It's cruel
