  • This weeks video is a Q&A with my mom, a registered nurse with 30 some years of experience! This is part 1 of a 2 part interview series with her. In the comments, I have time stamped the different questions for convenience :) In today’s video we talked about what kind of nursing she’s done, what her favorite specialties are, some tips for dealing with challenging co-workers and surgeons, what shifts she has worked, and lots about Nurse Practitioners. It was really fun interviewing her, and I hope you enjoy and learn something from it as well!

    Thank you for this video. I enjoyed hearing your mom’s diverse nursing experience. I specially love her answer to why she chose nursing over physician ( I like to chat too and that always reminds me why nursing fits my personally). She has the great qualities of an excellent nurse- competent, self aware, great observational skills and a people’s person. Thank you for this very informative video.

    What a lovely mother daughter interview/ relationship. I was taking classes at community college- to become a nurse, when my mother died. After being in the hospital with her, I stopped the whole process- i was discouraged by things i saw. But, after years passed, I am rethinking it;-)

    I’m doing an mde program and I’m really scared I won’t know how to do anything without the experience as an RN. But I already have a bachelors and am 26 and time isn’t on my side to get a bsn and I really want to do nursing. Please let me know your advice on this!

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  5 лет назад +2

      I don't think time is against you at all! I would look for a program that allows for you to get your RN (you need this anyway to be an NP) and allows you to work while obtaining your NP. That way you are able to pick up some experience along the way, but its one continuous program!

    I have huge respect for nurses, but I feel the work hours should never be more than 8 hrs a day. There is a reason labor rules allows eight hours everywhere because one tires physically and mentally and only 12 hours are left for the rest of the day. Atleast eight hours of sleep is required and then one is left only four hours. Cooking, eating food, bathing, exercise. Just imagine where the rest of the time is gone. It's cruel
