    Why would anyone want to take the twin lights and put singles in. Does not need anywhere near 3 grand put into it. I looked for 5 minutes on the net and FOUND the exact seating pattern from heritage parts as well as the original steel wheels. Weld on a new exhaust tip and its ready. Such moaners it's a great car.

    Drew bought an old black rag top VW in one salvage hunters for huge money it was Left Hand Drive, and in later episodes you can see it dusty and unused in a shed and probably rusting away. He should stick to antiques programs, he seems to have forgotten about Tee and what with Carl the electrician got rid of now buddied up with some other guy. It will all end in tears.

    A good clean would sort the seats, because they are not torn. I had one of these. Brakes were poor and clutch cables snap due to bulkhead flex. So, yh it was a poky wee hatch and good fun to drive. Its the way it changed what manufacturers did that is the main thing.

      So is replacing the original cloth on the seats, most of that dull appearence is due to dust/dirt in the fabric.

    That rear spoiler needs to stay as its probably worth as much as the car now. Rear hatch doesnt have the black trim, A pillar black trim missing. Side trim is plastic and not stickers, he went on about the single lamp grill, but Pirellis were never available for that year not even an option. The doctor must have more money than sense, he could have had a mint Campaign for that money and I mean a really mint one.

    • @petermartin3842
      @petermartin3842 6 лет назад +1

      spot on comments, I noticed the same, the side trims both panel and under the doors are vinyl stripes not the original metal strips, the red trim on bumpers isn't factory and Pirelli P wheels were only on the campaign and I would imagine the ones on this are MK2 versions, should have 9 spokes on it.
      Drew kept going on about the single light grille and he couldn't even be arsed to fit a decent rear window that had elements that actually all work

    • @guitarfoundry
      @guitarfoundry 6 лет назад +1

      true..also someone had, had a go at the bolsters with vinyl..the front bumper was warped (as they often did), the horrible rear lenses..no idea about the engine...the lower decals were damaged..then again, she's an old girl whose probably had the arse ragged off her.

    I had a 1984 Mk1. I particularly wanted the 1800 due the the additional torque. I bought the headlight conversion for £50 from the VW dealer at the time. I bought it from a dealership in 1986. It was an import from Northern Ireland. It cost me £6000. I traded in my Mk1 1300 Driver which for those that don't know was a GTi replica minus the engine.
    It was without a doubt the car that I always look back with great fondness. It could pull from 30 in fifth gear all the way to its maximum. I loved it.
    My wife as a new driver couldn't get on with it, so I traded it in for a brand new Mini Mayfair the following year! What a mistake that was. Car gone and Mrs gone the following year! 😄
    10 years later, I bought another, locally owned for fun. The guy had looked after the mechanics, checking the tallest every 3000 miles for which he gave me his record book. The bodywork was very tired. I had some work done, replacing the rotten tailgate with a second-hand one bought the black window surround and fitted that. Replaced the damaged bonnet and kept it in three colours while I was saving up for a respray. It was as good as my first.
    I sold it on hen we found out my wife was pregnant.
    I've never been interested in the later models apart from a great hankering at the time for a Rallye. It would have been tight to be able to afford one at the time with the cheapest cars being around £7000. I so wish I had though!

  • @user-qn6yt3zx3w

    That’s not a Mk1 GTI, it’s a Mk1 facelift - quad lamps at the front, larger tail-lamps, Pirelli P-slot wheels (missing), square dials and the all important 1800cc engine (vs the true Mk1 1600cc).

    • @markevans2280

      This wouldn’t have had Pirelli p slots, you are correct on the rest though , them smoked rear lights are wrong ,the decals underneath the swage line are wrong, the side decals should be plastic strips , shouldn’t have a rear spoiler or front chin spoiler, the seats should be edged with fabric, not vinyl & the black decal around tailgate is missing, it’s a Frankenstein Gti 😂

My first car was a 1982 Golf GTI, which I bought in 1989. Should have lost the add on bee sting Ariel, lost the zender spoiler, and put the original 9 spokes alloys on it and kept it as an early 1600 should have been, it’s worth as an original than a mix and match
    And WTAF is that red stripe on the bumper? Never a thing on a mk1 EVER

    • @wilf18
      @wilf18 6 лет назад

      Gary Dunn to be fair mate Ferraris are poorly put together. I know a man who repairs and restores classic cars for a living and he said Ferraris are poorly engineered. It’s more about the styling and driving. He said that when you work on a Porsche 911 or 80s or 90s BMW M5 for example you realise how beautifully engineered they are and how badly built Ferraris are...and that is from someone who takes them apart and rebuilds them. So I can empathise with Drew’s remark

    Very poor program an arrogant smug presenter, a bemused co presenter who seemed to care about the car and not the profit. Will not watch again .I'll stick to reruns of the Original wheeler dealers.

      Good condition, original MK1 GTIs go well over 10k... and tbh, well worth the money! Great little cars, can't go wrong with a Golf.

    i hate these lifestyle soap opera type programmes that masquerade as credible, informative television..'infotainment'....when's the argument with the boss? When's the high pressure, unrealistic deadline? utter shit.
