I had to shut this channel down and move to a new one due to some issues with my google workspace account type. On the new channel, I'll be regularly adding new videos from the original top gear series from 1980 onwards.
Thank you for the support!
I love the fact that Jeremy Clarkson has been 58 years of age since he was 19...
People forget, Noel Edmonds presented and Angela Rippon, they just remember Jeremy
See...jeremy was born at 60, it was his voice that aged from 1-60
"1-60 in 45years"
In reality he's been 14 for 50 years.
Or vice versa.
"Now onto less controversial matters, Jeremy Clarkson" how times have changed
Ha! Indeed. I was shocked to see a measured and balanced Jeremy Clarkson.
And very very posh compared to Jezza the lad who goes round punching ppl these days.
Now he has a reputation to live up to, but back then if he acted like he does now, he would be fired for being unprofessional. also times have changed.
Still got more than a million stashed away, in some faraway tax haven than you Mr Minder
MINDER BINDER haha i thought exactly that
He actually reminds me of how James May speaks and acts now.
Pretty strange.
he is a good middle class boy who went to public school..he ought to speak well
Does sound posher ere
@@MrBigheads08 Just like Tony Blair, in the late 90s he fashionably 'dumbed' himself down for public consumption.
@@ministryofanti-feminism1493 Blair never lost his posh accent though. He just pretended he liked football and played guitar.
Doncaster he's from. His accent is false
His attitude on this video is way ahead of its time. Most presenters in the 80s were stone faced and serious
Hearing Murray Walker's voice took me back in time...😢 RIP Murray.
Still better than Top Gear with Chris Evans.
Agree
+smee160 harder

Anything is better than that ginger twat!
As we can see here, Clarkson's love for the great Morris Marina goes back a long, long way.
Every time i see his hair I expect a sitcom laugh in the background.
Doktor Spock
The cool 'In Style' the 'Mutton' in those days, I had a Che Guevara beard and Sunglasses to match (even on cloudy days) !
Aye,no sooner is JC in front of the camera,he's slating the Marina. Better watch out for the grand piano.
Canned laughter?
Yes!
This is absolute gold. Tiffs Sierra workout is awesome. Thanks for the upload!
this is pure gold! I love these folk on the auto jumble - could spend hour chatting to all of them!
Wow his accent is different. He doesn't have that power in his voice that he has now. He sounds almost calm.
less cigarettes
FELiPES101 More patience back then too, compared to now. Like that moment in the North Pole, Jeremy had snapped and crashed the car about a minute after trying the blow through snow and ice.
FELiPES101 cigarettes give your voice more powerful? wutt? its not the cigarettes, they may have changed his voice, but they couldnt of changed his accent. that was a conscious decision by him most likely.
aListers later he developed his very high accent probably because it sounds funny while playing with cars.
I think he mentioned in interviews a few times that he had to fake the BBC regional accent, and then as the years went past during his time on Top Gear he gave up and talked like himself again.
Ahhh, to be young again.... We were healthy and full of life and most of us had no idea just where we were going. Those were the days and I sure do miss them. It's funny to see how we all looked in our younger days.
I see this comment 8 years later. We have aged even more.Hope you are well.
I still don't know where I'm going
For many, many years I was convinced that bloke's name was Tiffney Dell!!!!!
At 0:31 you can see Richard Hammond being carried through the gates
That. Was. Precious. I had a lol moment seeing that, blond, short, bright white teeth, who knew he'd be one of the Three Blokes?
It probably isn't him, the age gap isn't big enough. In this episode, Jeremy is in his late 20s. So Richard would have been graduating from high school with very white teeth at this time driving a Dolly Sprint with alloy wheels.
Lol! :D
In A 'Maclaren' Buggy no less, closely followed by Mr Slow in a very fashionable at the time 'Pushchair' (with extras)
HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAHHA
Brilliant.
The trio of Wilson , Needel and Clarkson was pure motoring gold
1:47 "In a couple of years they may be more saught after.."
Or in 20 more years have a piano dropped on the roof by the very same man asking about it.
hahahaha very funny!
Its the comic joke a piano falling from the sky.
HuskyGamersUNITE
Lol yeah I thought the same , I died when he said get the same performance of an MGB and have fun?
I thought shit this guy needs to find a new hobby
His taste in cars is poor. Im glad Top Gear decided to drop piano's on them.
You could clearly see he was not too bright .The only thing a Marina was good for was land fill.
I always enjoy Tiff Needell. The guy always seems to be holding back a laugh as he speaks, even when at speed!
I have not seen this before, Tiff showing Touring car driving dynamics in the best way I have ever seen, they were glory days. Tiff is always a favorite of mine, wherever he turns up.
My dad transported cars between Britain and here (N Ireland) professionally in the '90s, for many years; says he once encountered Tiff, after Tiff had test-driven a car belonging to the auction. Says he was incredibly rude and dismissive of the staff, and chucked the car keys over the counter without even acknowledging them afterwards.
Went to one of these 25yrs ago in Nottingham while staying a couple months in Britain and I gotta say I had an absolutely wonderful time. We've got good ones at Carlisle and the like here in Pennsylvania but the atmosphere and the kindness of the people at that one was amazing. Good fun that was and an unlikely highlight to my trip :)
He's still wearing that jacket...!!
I was born in 1970 and as a very young girl I would snuggle up with my Dad on a Thursday evening to watch Top Gear from where I remember William Woollard (in this episode) Noel Edmonds, Chris Goffey, Tony Mason, Sue Baker, Jerk Clarkson, Quentin Willson (posh boy), Steve Berry (Burnley Biker), Julia Bradbury, Vicky BH, Kate Humble (spring Watch) and Clarkson.
and Tomorrow 's World with Judith Hann and Kieran Prendiville.
God he looks young. These old Top Gear clips make me feel old
Damn, that race-prepped Sierra Cosworth looks like a lot of fun to drive. I mean c'mon, 500hp on a stripped-down road car, semi-vague steering, short gear ratios, not-so-aerodynamic bodywork and all that engine noise... yeah, I'd love to drive that car.
Same here. it's so ugly it's pretty. A shoebox with big hairy balls. Love old boxy cars. E30 m3 and the mk4 jetta 24v vr6 or less potent 1.8T that I own are just beautiful cars and really do drive great if you tune them even a little.
It looks as though he accidently left the coat hanger in his jacket.
That sure was the in Style then - ever see Joan Collins in Dynasty !
I love the fact that the young Jezza Clarkson sounds like an accountant is doing the commentary, love the shoulderpads too......
this place they're selling parts for cars, its where all the guys need to bring all their wives for dragging them round clothes shops
Rich E 😂
Jeremy Clarkson turned into Jezza when he met Hamster and Captain Slow.
Some says that Tiff is The Stig, all we know is that he is an awesome racing driver.
I could watch this for hours!
I wish England was still like this !
So do I. And I'm a sweaty sock ! 👍😆
100%. The old money too. So nostalgic.
Yep. 100%
@arnie shanks You can blame that on the wars.
I dont technology was not as good as it was and VHS was horrible to use
Even old mate Murray made a short and high energy appearance.
I really enjoyed watching Top Gear and Fifth Gear. Really great shows with the right amount of information and entertainment.
Oh my! I never noticed until now that young Jeremy and my good late friend Franny , nickname for Frank Christowski, could pass for identical twins. And the hair too. Keep up the good work Jeremy, love Top Gear. Much better than that American version.
I am watching this in 2021 oh how i miss crowds.
Yes, Jeremy Clarkson was born in 1960. He is 61 years old as of 2021 and was 28 years old in 1988. Clarkson always looked much older than he is and I'd say at least 15-20 years older.
These old top gears were the best...great upload..
.... " ... LESS CONTROVERSIAL MATTERS... " and 'Clarkeson' in the Same Sentence.... EXCELLENT STUFF INDEED 🏴🖖🤠
It's amazing this version of Top Gear lasted as long as it did!
Why? I can't stand the new version of it.
it was better then, actually about cars
It was a great show. Much better than the Hilux destroying crap that came later.
Absolutely classic british dialogue and editing! Love it :D
Hilarious how quickly peoples' accents change. If this was audio only, I'd of never known it was Jeremy Clarkson.
***** BBC presenters still spoke with a BBC accent as lat as the early 90s..
***** I searched for this to see if I could hear his Doncaster accent... which I don't.
Irony is by the time the BBC would have let him use his Yorkie accent, it was long gone
Don’t forget all the smoking has made his voice hoarse yet iconic.
Yet Tiff needell spoke with an accent - southern accent admittedly, but even so.
Brilliant bit of video. Top Gear back then was a proper motoring show and much better for it!
2:26 Jeremy's first meeting with James May and Richard Hammond!
hahahahaha
Almost died laughing 😂🤣
😂
1:37 "What on earth is this ? Its a Marina; Explain !" Killed it.
He already hated it back then.
Nice to hear Murray Walker's voice, brings back memories
2:32 For a short moment I thought that it was Guy Martin - but then I realized, that I could understand everything he was saying... ;-)
That Marina is nostalgic to me because my grandad (no longer with us) had one when I was a little kid. He took us on fishing trips in it. Happy memories.
I have similar grandad car memories. When you think about it, sobering also that a large proportion of the people filmed here are alas no longer with us either. Peace.
All gone now, the people, the presenters, the events, the country they all lived in.
Who's here because of quarantine over Corona?
A trip down memory lane through rose-tinted glasses. Nice. How I long to return to these days.
I guess you are still here then.
1:38
“What on earth is this?!”
- Jezza Clarkson
I watched this to laugh at clarkson but stayed for Tiff ragging an rs500. brilliant.
I worked with the guy selling the Marina. Priceless....
(6:15) And that's just how I remember you 'Tiff' when meeting you soon after at Mercedes Leicester !
Still watch you on Quest HD 5th Gear, well done.
How we miss you England… 🏴
why? this looks fucking miserable
@@pervenchemusic lol🤪 like he said, How we miss you England🏴
Always really enjoyed the version of Top Gear in the arly 90s when it was Clarkson, Tiff Needell, Quentin Wilson and s'times Steve Berry also. They worked really well together.
And Vicky butler Henderson, I'd like to shag that
Of the 2 road going black Sierra's shown, the one shown on the right, its MOT just ran out this year, so is definitely still going. In contrast, the one on the left only lasted about 3 years, so was probably written off.
The funny thing is stuff like this probably isn't even the oldest recording of Clarkson the BBC has. Apparently when he was about 11 or 12 around 1971-72 JC played a boy in a play for the BBC that they likely recorded. Somewhere in their archives, you can still hear 12 year old Jeremy Clarkson.
Nothing but British folk good times. Can remember the smell well.
Didn't see the interview with the German then?
no gut or baldspot yet
baldspot hidden by curls ,)
And massive shoulder pads
And sounds a bit posher.....
He's wearing the same jeans and jacket he would wear for the next 30 years though. Hmmmm, ....the jeans stayed the same size but his gut overflowed that op later 😄
@Mark Richardson he is. all his friends are torries.
They should totally bring back Tiff for the new "not Top Gear"
Tiff is awesome
yeah you can easily understand what tiff is saying unlike clarkson who's heavy accent like a truck diesel engine makes it difficult to understand him.
`They should totally bring back Tiff for the new "not Top Gear" `...as opposed to partially?
Doesn't Tiff host Fifth Gear on Channel 5?
@@rattusnorvegicus4380 They referenced him in an episode of TGT
Happier, simpler times. The Internet has ruined this kind of thing.
It's human nature and it's need to know about everything. That air of mystery was the fun part. Its been killed off.
This is what a real motoring program should be like and best of all, not one bloody EV shown
Tiff was one of the best hosts ever, he deserved better...
Great to hear Murray Walker again 👍
2019 and watching a video posted in 2011 about a tv show from 1988 ..... The RUclips algorithm.....one of life's great mysteries....
2024 here 😆

Murray Walker (R.I.P) moment 5:32
Ha, the hate for the marina is already here
My mother in Law had one and it was a wonderful car, however the demon 'rust' in spite of all known inhibitors (Zi-Bart included) took it away in the early 90's (the car I mean) The MIL continued rust free until 2011 !
They were JUNK .
@@paulbaker6378
No Paul, your comment is junk.
I agree, I have a Morris Marina 1.5 Diesel, 1976, runs well, surprisingly responsive handling too
-I had the coupe. Rolled it after losing the back end early one morning on an icy Norfolk country lane. Hahahahahaha. It was horrible
The "man on the street" interview cuts give me a better appreciation for the mock interviews in "A Bit Of Fry and Laurie".
Not only young Jeremy Clarkson. But more importantly young Swiss Tony at 1:41
lol, why has no one agreed with this comment more.
From back when the BBC was attempting to be taken seriously in their efforts to produce a car show. You can just sense the restraint in Jeremy's voice.
Attempting?
I can see even back then why J C was going to be so popular. Hard to explain or put your finger on but he presents with a style all his own.
English TV had so much quality back then we didnt know how lucky we were...back when Britain was GREAT
This top gear era was crap. Just like the cars, computers, clothes, music and houses.
Britain was shite in the 80’s.
The modern world is a dream by comparison.
Top Gear got a lot better (Then worse obvs) as did the rest of tv.
3 channels vs Prime + Netflix? George and Mildred vs Gus Freng and Stringer Bell?
Seriously man, don’t long for a past that wasn’t there, wake up and smell the Zondas.
Truly, back before you were invaded.
@@stevejones799 who are you?
@@keithnixon1948 A historian.
@@stevejones799 back then people like you were complaining about Afro Caribbean people and before that the Irish.
Mostly I prefer an immigrant to a racist, they tend to be better people.
Clarkson finds a Mk1 Cortina light, just under 30 years later he sticks a couple on the back of a beach buggy
As an 85 baby this was a cool little flashback to my childhood 😎
Tiff Needell is a steering wheel master!!
That's how Top Gear should be today and get back to it's roots!
what on earth is this, when he approaches the mariner. hahahahaha fuckn funny
No silly camera angles, no camera filtering, no stupid challenges. No scripted bullshit made to look spontaneous.
Blimey at 2:29 I recognise him although 50 years have passed and the ol' memory can't recall the name; we used to ride around the streets of Andover together 👍
how these times seem so different today. No internet, people had all the time in the world. I think people are not constructed for such a speed.
I couldn't agree more. We've overstepped, developmentally.
Humanity needs to slow the fudge down.
Internet is not the problem. People's attitudes have changed and not for the better.
@@bighands69internet is the problem. Mass media in general honestly. It’s poison to society…and I do the the irony of me saying that on RUclips while commenting on a broadcast from the BBC. lol
Holy shit this is what people did before the days of craiglist, gumtree, ebay etc. The impact of the internet is truly astronomical. On a sidenote holy shit Jezza hasn't aged well.
There are still plenty of car shows with auto jumbles where lots of these stalls set up. People still sell 'classic' cars, spare parts and paraphernalia at places like this. The internet hasn't killed it off completely. Mind you, some of the people running the stalls seem to have travelled forward from 1956! 😁
Jeremy sounding very posh!
Weird isn't it
And Northern lol
He's a world away from Doncaster there. Effing BBC commie scumbags.
And still a massive tosser !
Rah, rah, rah a posh person said to me the other day....
You will never see thousands of people in these places again because everything is online now
I'm not a car guy and I was a child long after this was aired, but Tiff Needell's voice is very nostalgic for me
Love this, and that brute of a cossie at Brands Hatch
And then the Internet happened
Jordan Wilkinson still going to this day mate
And I found this...
Interesting, Tiff matured gracefully over the years, Jeremy still acts like a 16-year-old.
Really? I was thinking the opposite for Tiff. He's become a bit of a clown. That's Jeremy's gig.
@@humandroid53 Troll much?
@@Sam-K fuck off. That's what you are doing!

I loved the older Top Gear in the 80s. I don’t remember Clarkson but the guy introducing this.
are you sure that's Top Gear? looks to be Jeremy doing some automotive reporting for some other show. He was a motoring journalist before TG. Very nice find, either way!
It is Top Gear. The show changed rather dramatically with the reboot.
@@TechMarkYT interesting. just i can't find any episodes from before the trio. still the only true Top Gear, in my eyes, honestly.
This was the down to earth Topgear I liked in the past before it became a snobbish rich mans show like in the resent years. And I liked Clarkson allot better in this more humble past aswell before fame and wealth destroyed him. I truly miss the more humble 80s and 90s. Many of these nice old folks are probaly gone now.

at least with fleamarkets you dont have wonder if you'll ever even get the thing in the mail or not
Like Pubs used to be where people socialised before Snapchat
I fucking hate ebay and amazon etc. I wont ever buy anything off those websites on principle.
Back when top gear was an enjoyable watch. As opposed to what it became years later.
When tiff opened the door on that cossie I was dying to see the ad saying something different in top gear style
"Eat English Muff....."😂😂😂
Loved to have seen Hammond. He would have been a spotty teenager 😂😂😂
