@@mickey5515 you think the previous supra was reliable lol
@@dado5162 reread my post and you’ll understand why they didn’t do that. Lmao.
LC500 sales are terrible regardless of its praise. Make a Supra on that chassis you’ll get a heavier GT Supra that would have terrible sales at 90k and could possibly take away whatever small sales the LC gets. They would literally be messing with their money.
Thanks Topher- your review sold me and I just picked one up today (in matte Phantom). More space inside than I thought for someone at 6'1. It's a bit punchy when you want it to be but handles great. Had a fun drive through the twisty mountain roads of West Virginia to get back to PA. Got 32mpg driving between 75-80mph for 4.5 hours once I was on the highway.
Awesome, congrats! It’s a fantastic sports car. Enjoy!
West Virginia mountain driving is always a good time. I can't imagine how it is driving this beauty. Hope it is treating you well and safe driving!

One lucky bastard
That MPG is freaking crazy at those speeds.
I was initially critical of the whole BMW engine thing. However, I test drove one and fell in love. I was shocked at the torque. It feels faster that it is, and it's an absolute blast to drive. It ended up being a little out of my price range so I bought a bullitt mustang. I think about that Supra a lot though. I will eventually buy one.
Btw, I sold the mustang 3 months later.😂
This is the perfect engine for the Supra, the B58 is a great engine, it definitely has a identical personality to the original Supra, not to mention its power, 382HP is way underrated, the real figure is well over 400. This Supra is a really fast car, its M car fast, it leaves 5.0L Mustangs in the dust, its definitely no slow car fast Toyota 86, you actually have to be careful in this thing cause you'll see 100mph pretty rapidly.
@TaylorGuitars4Life you got the supra now? 😢

I think the new Supra is the dream car every car guy/gal wants. It has the Toyota Supra name and styling, BMW engine, BMW LSD (unrivaled by most other companies), BMW M suspension components, Porsche chassis dimensions, and some practicality from MPGs and having the hatchback. Literally a crossover sports car from 3 superb sports car manufacturers.

I drive a 6th gen Camaro SS, 6.2L V8 with an intake and a ported throttle body. A couple months back one of these 2021 Supra's walked me at a red light on my way to work. To be fair, I didn't realize I'd be racing, and it was right before my turn off to work - I lost traction in 2nd gear when I realized what was happening and mashed my pedal a little too hard. But, it was still impressive. I'm used to basically having my way with other vehicles but this new Supra is pretty darn quick to beat a modern V8 muscle car off the line.
it’ll beat you from a roll on too. they surprise me how much power they can make with the smallest mods

@@Jwalkerman_ why is that exactly?
Nice review! People usually complain about automatic trans in sports cars, which I can agree with to a certain degree. Sports cars should have a manual trans option, but if they don't then drive the auto like a manual trans. Put it in full manual mode and use the paddles and sequential floor shifter and row your own gears. And if you really want to, move your left leg back and forth when you change gears, Ha! I have a very quick 2017 MK7 GTI SE with the DSG trans and 034 Motorsports mods. I never drive it in full auto mode because it's absolutely dreadful in D or S. I always drive in full manual mode because I know which gear is best for any situation and not the cars TCU. When you row your own gears you also get to know the engines power band and character as well. Love the Supra, really don't care about the "But it's not a real Supra". A great combo of Japanese & German engineering. Peace.
You get the vision

Glad you're actually trying it out instead of just criticizing it for being a BMW. A 100% Toyota-built Supra would have costed well into $100k as a low-volume seller. I'll take it for what is is and appreciate the fact that Toyota is giving us at least something.
@@PlymouthNeon then again this was kinda a sell-out... I'm not hating, don't get me wrong I love the car and this BMW engine is amazing, who doesn't love how a BMW handles either? My point is that they were able to develop the GR Yaris which was a homologation developed car and is amazing. I'm amazed at what they were able to do with that 1.6l 3-cylinder. I hope the next 86 will be just as dynamic and lightweight how it should be
@ stop accusing people of stupid stuff like that 😂Automatics are more convenient for some people, not everyone wants to shift gears and worry about a clutch.
@ 🤨 Just because your definition of what a sports car SHOULD be doesn't mean that everyone else thinks like you. I think you mean DRIVERS car, cause a LOT of super fast sports/supercars have Automatics or DCTs. Look at Porsche, they have their own PDK which is one of the best in the business. The ZF is THEE best Automatic being sold at the moment.
@@exquisiteart6478 It's a very Toyota move. Most of Toyota's best engine platforms were engineered by Yamaha like the JZ and the LFA's V10. They wouldn't settle for anything but a I6, so it probably just a lot cheaper to borrow from BMW then to pay Yamaha to build a new I6.
It's a shame though, we likely won't see a turbo BRZ/86 from factory because of the MKV. I almost feel Toyota would of be n better off using Subaru's new Turbo Boxer to build a new MR2 from the 86 than go with the Supra, and let them build the Turbo BRZ everyone wants.

350 horse is not very impressive nowadays, but overall its still a marvel in terms of design and engineering.
Peter B from what I have hear in the a90 world it’s the transmission tuning that’s the problem

The original Supra was expensive as well I think. It was like 45kish new back in the 90s which with inflation is like high 50s I think. As well all this hate is like the original Supra was hated till it was gone lol. Quite like the LCs from Lexus
@@serpent86 The fastest model was just under 55k in 1993 dollars which is a tad over 100k adjusted for inflation today. I think Toyota did a good job pricing this aggressively
@@trevor852 I heavily agree! I think the price is right and very good 😊 considering the landscape of cars now and days!
@EVM I know you're just jumping on the BMW joke. But if you've actually driven both cars they couldn't be more different despite the different powertrains. I'd never touch a Z4, very lame and feels like something a grandpa would own
@EVM It's the same thing with the GR86/GT86. And they're fantastic vehicles. Just because a company doesn't want to lose too much money, while still developing a sports car for enthusiasts, doesn't mean it's bad.
Does anyone know if the maintenance costs on this thing would be bonkers? I know Toyota's are historically cheap to maintain, but being that it is so much of a BMW, would this not be the case?
I don’t know the cost of maintenance but I do know this is one of bmws most reliable modern engine they’ve made
BMW is the only car company who has mastered the craft of inline 6 engines, and with that said, BMW is a trusted company for inline engine collaborations. Plus the reason on why Toyota used bmw is because it's more cheaper than making or developing their own online engines, so why not go with the cheap and reliable one? Pretty much a good outcome though
I work at a Toyota dealership in California. I’ve sold an A91 in blue and a White one. Working with a third client right now for the Turbulence Gray. They call me the Supra specialist hahah. Loved the video
Amazing to me how it is similar in shape to my 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe which is now 14 years old!
I just loathe the way Toyota could’ve achieved absolute perfection but how they intentionally fell short.
I love the car, but that’s just it
Because it shares a lot of bmw parts? I bet you probably think the Lotus Exige/Elise/Evora didn’t achieve absolute perfection because it has a Toyota engine.
@@touayaaj84 Hahahaha no. On the quite contrary; My gripe is that Toyota didn't fully seize the opportunity of BMW doing the heavy lifting. They could've done a better sorted design overall instead of "letting the aftermarket companies complete the car".
@@touayaaj84 lotus always uses engine from bigger companies ...before the camry engine they used a rover engine for example, toyota actually has a sportscar platform and no shortage of engines to modify, yet they choose the bmw route.
just look at the gr yaris ...the only thing they had was the platform and they made that, but somehow a toyota supra is deemed too costly to do inhouse.
@@1whitedan supras case they needed a i6 and a from scratch platform tho it needed to meet emissions and be tunable plus with it being in a range near 50k. Alot of that wasn't happening since that'd just inflate the cars price in the process and ditched doing it themselves. In any case they'd be no win win situation in the supras case. If they made it themselves we'd be looking at another nsx again with it not being a bad car but would barely sell because it's too expensive for what it is including it having similar stats to the current mk5. Using parts from other cars wouldn't work since they're all to heavy to use for a sportscar and people would be mad if they just tossed a V6 in the mk5 and was done with it. Now with how the supra is now with the bmw parts BMW doesn't look like they care about the Z4 at all vs how toyos using the platform alone and all the stuff they've been doing with it. All bmw's doing is supplying the parts while toyo gives BMW their hybrid tech.
The drivetrain being shared with bmw is fine they make excelent inline 6 engines nowdays but they were lazy in making the cars interior and electronics seem more like a japanese sports car, for example the old supra has a very driver centric which gave it a real "cockpit" feel, but they made they new supra interior super generic with an ugly steering wheel not to mention the bmw chime and bmw augmented sound which is such an easy thing to change. These things really disappointed me not the engine or driving dynamics.

The 370z nismo makes about 350hp coming out around 2009. A bit less than the 21 but more than the 20 supra hp. Also knowing the 400z is coming with a twin turbo 3.0 liter from the infinity q60 and a 6 speed manual transmission I can see this car will be outsold or very few made. There is also a 228hp brz for 2022 that will satisfy those lower budgets.
A c4 xorvette makes 400hp weights less and a c5z06 does as well and they are both half the price

Fastest 26 mins ever. Great video brother.
BMW chime, BMW infotainment, BMW steering wheel, BMW materials, and BMW engines. Practically ALL BMW
Not practically… is a bmw
the issue with it being BMW is that I expect a certain degree of reliability when I buy a Toyota. Look at all the MK4 Supras that 25 years later still work fine. I don't necessarily want BMW headaches from a Toyota in the long term. This coming from the owner of a V10 M6... but I bought that car knowing what to expect from it.
U really can’t expect that this engine has the same reliability as the v10
B58 is one of the best engines ever made. It easy rivals 2jz
99% of people dont realize this is the m coupe two door redesigned which is a great thing!
One thing to mention with the Supra’s, the gears are very tall through 6th, so the car can just keep pulling at the higher rev range
I think the 2.0, for how fast it is, is just as a big accomplishment. Extremely suprised with this 3.0's MPG potential, besides, the B58 3.0 has Supra related DNA written all over it. The exterior is super car worthy, and the tuning looks on par with Toyota's standards. Just missing a manual gearbox and I'd get one. This automatic does remind me of the Ferrari Enzo.
Congrats, the manual version is going for sale now :)
Absolutely, it’s a better car to drive every day. This 3.0 is great if you’re gonna track it, but if not then I don’t really see the appeal. Speed gets boring after awhile, and tickets get expensive.

So no one isn’t going to talk about that dead deer just laying on the highway at 13:12?
So we just going to ignore the dead deer? (13:12)
It's a very compact car which gives you 100% control. When you get in this car, you feel like you are in control. You get used to handling and its mechanics really fast. And since it's by Toyota, it literally runs on zero maintenance.
You do know that this car is 80% made of bmw parts right?
17:08 Fiesta ST I believe ?
Topher: I fit 8 grocery bags in this car.
Me: How many children does he have?
10:41 that Kia Rio was racing you😂
Love it! 💕
I know last time I asked your thoughts about RC-F compared to some other cars. Now that you got to experience the Supra for an extended period of time, how would you compare the two cars, RC-F and Supra?
RC hands down
The RC is slower, heavier, and gets worse gas mileage. Supra for me!@@justinkrizenesky
Yes, the BMW Z4 is a wonderful car, but it is not and never will be a Toyota Supra. I drove behind two 90s Supras yesterday, made by Toyota. Absolutely stunning and are actually Supras and not something else with a Supra badge slapped on
The new Supra is an amazing car
I love that this car was made with the tuner scene in mind
Beautiful car. Want one!!
People who complain that it isn’t manual can’t even afford the car
Just bought one today.
Best review I have seen so far
BMW performance with Toyota reliability that’s insane
BMW's from personal experience have been reliable. It is mostly a stereotype from what I can tell. You just have to maintenance it every 5000 miles to make it last for many years to come. Also Toyota tore apart the engine and vehicle altogether and concluded that it was up to Toyota's reliability standards.
@@Jdplayz-bq4ys people always say that certain cars are unreliable. But in reality any car can be reliable if you maintain them properly
@@Uriaah exactly my point
Come back at the end of 2021 for an additional bump in power.
And an extra seatbelt chime.
Even if Toyota made a 3jz, people would still complain. That's because half the complainers can't afford one
I really don't understand the hate that this car gets, looks cool, sounds cool, and it's reasonably affordable (compared to other cars in the same class)
@Paul S In the end, if you're that worried about reliability then get a Civic on Carola. Nobody really buys a sports car for reliability (of course you don't want the car to be a complete POS though) due to how much people screw these kinds of cars up with mods etc. Also a majority of the time cars like this are usually a "toy" and barely driven anyway. The whole reliability thing is moot.
Man, I'd love one of these but it wont be affordable to me till they end up on a u sell it lot at 7 grand..LOL till then, im driving my 26yr old probe gt...manual of course.
Old Probes are the shit. That V6 is fantastic.
