I came to this video as a huge MK4 fan and expecting the MK5 3.0 to win, but ended the video considering buying the 2.0 lol. I’m not a regular track/drag driver so I feel like the small engine will be quicker in the city streets, better on gas, and great for long-distance, making for a better daily driver than the 6 cylinders.
Same reason I got the 2.0. I don't track it at all. It's my daily. I also got a stupid good deal and got it for 12k less than asking and 8k under MSRP, due to them mismarking it. plus another 11k with a trade in. Got it brand new 2023 for under 30k over all so I couldn't pass it up
Also, a lot of reviews say the 2.0 handles better on curves due to the lighter weight and how the engine actually sits as a front mid engine and it's behind the front axle so the handling is "better"
@@TheNEWB13I've got a 2015 228i convertible that I just purchased off my dad. It has the predecessor to the 2 liter turbo in this video with slightly lower figures. While I do wish for more power sometimes(who doesn't), it's not slow. BMW lies about/underrates their performance figures, and it can be around 30 hp and lb/ft higher than on paper. So it's about twice as powerful as the Corolla I used to drive. The consensus seems to be that the 4 cylinder leads to a much better weight distribution due to a lighter nose. My dad optioned the sport suspension and M brake package for it which makes it handle like a dream. I obviously won't be able to beat a 3.0L turbo 6cyl M235i in a race or sound as good, but it has enough usable power for a fun daily driver sports car.
As far as sound, if you really want you can put a new exhaust on for a different note, so other than raw top end power there really isn't any difference.
Actually , the 2JZ engine cars happen to be very desirable , at least in the US. People have paid as much as twice the value for a used 2JZ engine Toyota or Lexus just for the engine. Very similar to something like a Type-R Integra , or a 1990's NSX.
I would love for someone to finally record a race between cars like this where the winner outperforms the others after completing at least 2 laps on a REAL Racetrack that has not just a straightaway, but winding curves, twists and sharp turns.
It's underrated. It actually makes 370-380hp. And the US mk5s(different Heads since emissions in other countries limit them from putting the 6 port B58 in mk5s sold in every other country other than the US that has the 6 port B58 mk5s for the 21-now mk5s unlike everyone else getting the 2 port B58)while the 21-23 mk5s actually make closer to 420-430hp.
Overdrive On: Sets the automatic gearbox to the highest possible gear (usually 4th) when cruising [Light off = engaged] Overdrive Off [Light on]: stays on lower gears and high revs it more before switching gears.
I don't care peoples opinions. MK4 Supra is a very good sporty car with its power, handling, brakes and looking. Its just a good car and yes without mods or with mods. If someone saying this car is bad he dosn't know anything about cars or he just trying to be different.
For an archaic four speed auto, the 2JZ did pretty well for itself. Could make out that unmistakable 2JZ noise at various points. Turns out even an automatic Mk IV Supra is still a Mk IV Supra.

Comments like this make no sense. The old Yaris and new Yaris are also about the same speed, why? Because Toyota engineered them to be that way. It's not like the MK5 is the fastest thing Toyota could dish out, they could have made a more powerful car that's more expensive, but that defeats the purpose of a Supra.
@@KingBarney Yaris (Not GR) is not exactly build for performance, it's an eco car so obviously it prefers the efficiency over the performance However supra is a sport car that is known for the performance of it's engine, but the new one just got a small update in terms of engine performance even after 20+ years difference, i mean just compare R33 GTR Skyline to R35 GTR, Old NSX to New NSX in terms of Performance (Both Stock) and then look at the MK4 and MK5 Supra
Maybe...but lets consider how much more engineering has gone into the new Supra. It all that adds a fair bit of weight and refinement to the more basic design of the original car. Were the newer Supra devoid of all the safety goodies, creature comforts and nanny settings the old model lacks it would be not only still be more powerful, but quite a bit lighter to boot. In which case, the new car would demolish the old one, instead of simply walking away from it.
you should get a mk4 with the turbo invertor, that sound is to die for.. and do a full mile to see the difference vs the newer supras would be really good.
A 20 year old Mclaren f1 would’ve a chance against a mclaren p1 as well, what’s your point? The supra from the 90s was meant to compete against supercars at that time so it isn’t considered a slow car even by today’s standards
The new ones aren’t that much of an improvement hp and tq wise. Just a more modern version but that’s perfect the way it is. Not like the nsx that became a completely different car
Well, except for the fact its not keeping up in any aspect at all... The only aspect where its actually saving face, this drag race, its still losing to all variants of its modern counterparts. Objectively, the 2.0 is running circles around it in tech, refinement, precision, efficiency, safety,...
Well the modern has to get away with a lot of weight for crash safety and dreadful emission controls. That's what brings Bimmers down nowadays. Also the 3.0 is quite tunable.

you should get a mk4 with the turbo invertor, that sound is to die for.. and do a full mile to see the difference vs the newer supras would be really good.
20+ year car and still has a chance.... now thats how u build a car.
Best part is the auto is restricted in power.. They shouldve used a manual haha it runs a quicker 1/4 mile and 0-100..
@@thiccboi1726 what? The supra was never meant to compete with supercars, what do you smoke? And what supercar is slower than a supra?
2JZ is a tuner's Gem but but the new Supra's bmw engine isn't
I want to see a "stock" supra 2jz you know vs the "stock" purple gtr you also know which one
You can see them race a around Tsukuba.. the supra gets flopped and dead last out of all the JDM legends of the 90’s
The lovely old girl’ is still keeping up with modern cars with modern techs”
BMW's just not a good Automobile company.
Well, except for the fact its not keeping up in any aspect at all... The only aspect where its actually saving face, this drag race, its still losing to all variants of its modern counterparts. Objectively, the 2.0 is running circles around it in tech, refinement, precision, efficiency, safety,...
@@darshanasharma3073 they were, nowadays Bmw is a POS company.
@@an-dr6eu almost 30 years difference, i could argue a prius is more advanced but i would still pick the mk4 any day.
Well the modern has to get away with a lot of weight for crash safety and dreadful emission controls. That's what brings Bimmers down nowadays.
Also the 3.0 is quite tunable.
MK4 to the new generation be like : *Go little Rockstar*
