When I first saw one of these cars on a car lot, I was sure no more beautiful car could be designed. When I saw the Challenger, I fell in love all over again.
I owned and loved a "67 Cuda Formula "S" with the 273 engine and auto tranny.. It had the dual point Mallory ignition, the big square exhaust outlet, HD suspension, red line tires, a medium blue color with blue interior, and chrome valve covers and air cleaner. A real factory hot rod in its day. I ate most Mustangs for lunch. It was fast. Wish I had it now Beautiful car.
I was lucky enough to have had both a '67 and '70 Barracuda ... as one year old used cars.... both were low mileage adult owned... the 67 got 100,000 miles added in 2 years... the 70 was a Gran Coupe... high trim... air conditioning... VERY sharp. It got 100,000 miles added over 7 years.
Jay, don't get me wrong, you were a great host for the Tonight Show, but I like watching these videos better. You seem really happy and in your element. Plus, I love your taste in cars. Throw us together at a good car show, and I think we'd get along just fine. I hope you're feeling better and are on the mend. Godspeed.
I've was always partial to Chrysler/MoPar. I've owned,'54 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe,'69 Dodge Charger,'69 Plymouth Fury 3 and a '77 Chrysler LeBaron. I wish I could have held on to those for my own collection. Thanks to you Jay and all the guys for great videos.
Mr77Malibu....Im a Ford man, but I've owned 3 extremely nice Mopars....my favorite, that I had to SELL to pay my exwife as part of our divorce decree!! was my '66 Sport Fury....273 small block with an insanely wide intake, 727 torqueflight, 8.75 snubbed posi rear end, black vinyl and loads of chrome body molding inside and out....my god I loved that car....
67 Barracuda was my favourite year, nice looking car, that would have looked good sitting beside my 72-W30 Hurst Olds. Bringing back fond memories. Thanks for the great video!
A die-hard Mopar guy I've owned three six pack cars. I agree Jay. The cars back then made you drive them. In fact I think a lot of Youth today would benefit from having to learn on the cars we grew up driving in the 60s and 70s. For me it was mid- to late 70s. And I still have a 70 Plymouth. Lightweight, tons of torque, but they just didn't have the suspension to get it to the pavement back then. The Hotchkis suspension definitely helps that with the older cars. Most of the hot rods we drove back then would just literally ignite the tires in Billows of smoke if you got on them very hard. Street racing them was a real chore. They were not slow. So although you mention the old Challenger is slower than the new one, I would say put some slicks on the old one and take them to the strip. They definitely had the horsepower they just did not have the ability to hook the tires up and that's why the times were different from the factory back in the day. Beautiful Barracuda though, and Hurst is a great compliment to that era of car. It's about the experience of the bare-bones muscle car. We didn't have any air conditioning, airbags, the shifters had to have a man's arm and hand behind them as well as the stiff clutches. Like I said before the cars made you drive them. Learn on one of those and you can drive anything. They could be a handful on slippery roads, and you had to have some finesse. But the satisfaction... You might be able to get it with the new one, but there's something about that old school horsepower, and the way it was put to the road.
I do love the cuda’s but in my opinon nothing dodge made looked better then the coke bottle shape of the charger and the b body cars like the roadrunner and GTX they where my favorite.
I had a beautiful 66 Cuda with the bubble back window. The most perfect silver misted blue. My Wife and I used to camp out in it at the Indianapolis 500 probably for 6-7 years. I never should have sold her. The car is still here.
everyone always regrets selling yet time and time again yas watch her fuckoff in the grip of another driver. Quench that thirst and go get that ride once again or something else ur into and never look bk
Mr Leno....i am just going to keep saying it....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep doing these....my wife and I both have 2014 Lexus "mom" cars we lease and swap out every few years for newer versions...they are so boring but do have air conditioned seats.... I LOVE your channel and you give me so much joy....never stop!!! Also, please buy me a 1961 E Type if you ever find $150K in one of your ashtrays :)
Had a pair of neighbors, one owned a '68 Hurst Olds 442 w/ 350 Rocket and the other had one of these '67 Hurst Barracudas w/ a 383(?) and Torqueflite. I always fancied the 'Cudas for their smoother lines and more svelte body style. Pop was drag racing a '67 Chevelle w/ a 327/4-speed and Mom was rallye racing a '64 Corvair 110HP and I got to be her co-pilot/map reader. Too much fun! That Corvair really shined in the twisties.
This car was available in a fastback, a notch-back (with it without a vinyl top) and as a convertible. In the summer of 1972 before my sophomore year in college , I bought my Aunt Lillian's '67 vinyl-topped notch-back barracuda. It had about 24,000 miles on it. She let me have it for $500 even though it was worth a lot more. It was a white one with a black top and red "Naugahyde" interior. It had a console-shift automatic, a 273 small-block V8 engine with a 2 bbl. carburetor. It must've been a 273 or a 318 - I never found out because it never needed any work. I did have an 8-track tape deck installed and put a smaller wood-rim steering wheel on it. If it had been equipped with air conditioning it would've been perfect. I take that back . . . it really was perfect.
I just rode in my grandpas it’s very loud and it raffles but when you hit the throttle it’s sounds amazing. He has a 1968 red automatic convertible with air conditioning. I don’t know if it’s a formula s or not but it has 275hp the interior isn’t from the factory but everything else is. You should see people wave at you. The most amazing feeling in the worlds seeing people interesting in it. He’s trying to sell it for 30k but I asked him to save it for me cause I loved it it also has a CD player installed so yeah. I’m glad people appreciate it’s existence cause it’s very cool in every aspect.
My Dad had a 69 with a 340. Its nothing more than a great memory at this point. At least i still remember sitting in the garage changing jets on the holley and not telling mom theres new cams in the mail....man i miss those days
What's with all the dislikes? EDIT: In my opinion people shouldn't dislike a video just because it isn't available in their country yet. Disliking means you dislike the video itself. If people are really upset about availability, they should complain to RUclips about it. Also, it sounds to me like the video is available everywhere now... so now there are many dislikes for no reason at all.
I had a 1965 Cuda with a 273 commander engine as my first car. It was great car; took me every where and I really enjoyed it. It had a special exhaust that sounded awesome.
You should check out a PROPER Hemi A-Body. One of the about 50 of each, Darts, and, Barracudas that Mopar built that STILL dominate their class to this day. Hurst actually did all the conversion work on those. Got to drive one once. Absolutely INSANE cars. A friend of my dad's had one, a Dart, that had never been raced. Never had a cage put in it, never been tubbed. Spent it's life as the most insane street car around. I've been a Mopar fan since I was a little kid, and, getting handed the keys to that, even if only for the afternoon, was a dream come true!
Always one of my top 10 American cars, ever since I was a little boy. Something about the grille, the fastback, the clean lines; it all seems so right. Someday I'd love to own a Formula S. Maybe the next time the collector's market takes a nosedive it'll be back within reach as a weekend pleasure car.
I have had a 67 FB for the last 20 or so years, the original slant 6 was tossed for a 440, its slowly making its way back to street driving after a long history of drag racing.
I love the big window on my '65 Cuda. It gives a unique, open feeling inside. It draws a lot of attention as it is so distinctive, You really put it down while raving about the '67.
Awesome looking cuda. The old Challenger mustn't have been a high end model if it only did 6.1 to 60mph- that's what the quickest Aussie Valiant Chargers did with their 265 6 pack Hemi 6. Quickest in Australia for 25 years though!
Rim is slang for wheel. Zlatan is just pointing out there's a difference between rim, wheel, and tire. Tire = rubber. Wheel = metal circle thingie in tire. Rim = outer circle/lip/rim of said wheel (metal circle thingie).
I love that you bring these cars in to show us, but I'd also like to see some more from your collection. Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Look forward to these every week.
Yeah I agree! me thinks its a wee close to chicanery @ least that's wat I felt wen I started seein all those cars showing up as loaners! dat wittle wascal Jay!!
Aabeautiful car Jay. I had a Dodge Dart with 3 speed transmission and 318 V-8 engine. Raced a BMWW down I-59 to college in Tuscaloosa. Left him in my dust. Missed the Tuscaloosa exit due to speed and did not turn around until Moundville. That little car could smoke. But I thought I might die because it was not really made to go over 105 mph. At least mine shook a lot. ....:)
Jay ,I am a car nut also.Who else would buy a 1990 1LE-IROC-Z and put it away for 27 years? It still only has 6.3 miles on the od. No air or power doors, windows or radio.A real race car.
I have had a bunch of Barracudas. My 67 convertible with a 318 was my favorite, yet a 68 fastback was cool as the backseat could fold forward and the trunk would fold back, a huge deck for sleeping with glass above to see the stars. I miss old cars...
The first Barracudas - although a little strange and tinny, were the hottest looking of these cars. Take a challenger hellcat and add those components to a first gen barracuda and get back to us in the morning. When you finish that project, my birthday is next month.
I have been in the original hemi cuda' and a lot of the Hurst Cars. next door neighbor in Warminster Pa was the Hurst Salesman and brought the cars home all the time.
HEY JAY, LOVE YOUR SHOWS AND BEING 66 YEARS OLD I ALSO GREW UP WITH AND RACED MANY MUSCLE CARS IN THE MID TO LATE 60S STREET AND ON THE STRIP. I KNOW YOUR KNOWLEDGE IS VAST ON THIS SUBJECT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PLUGGED THE 340 TWICE, I AGREE. MARKO
As an aging irascible old Brit who likes anything mechanical I'm not a great fan of American car shows as a rule with the crashing music and flashing screen changes but this one is in a different category altogether.Jay Leno is engaging, witty and obviously passionate about his and other peoples cars and machinery and I've enjoyed watching every one of them. Thanks Jay.
One of my all time favorite cars. When I was 8 years old my best friends big brother bought a brand new '68 Formula 340 in dark green. It had those rectangular dual exhaust pipes. I remember helping him loosen up the clamps and adjusting them just right. He also had the Firestone Wide Oval tires. I remember him painting the wide oval logo with a small bottle of white paint to get that raised white letter look. As for this car, I'm not a fan of Centerline Drags. The rear tires are too thin. But all in all, a great car.
My dad had a 68 340 formula s package notchback with auto torqueflite tranny...he said that car was freakishly fast and only lost to a 4spd cammed and built 340 dart swinger after getting back from vietnam...that he had beaten before shipping out. His buddies said, He's been waiting for you to get back and his car is built now lol
gmodmagic I'm in UK and can watch it now. When the video was first published I couldn't, it was area restricted. I'm guessing that's why it generated a lot more dislikes than usual.
talfacprez i was born in 1973, so i recognize some of those names, thankfully one of my younger friends is a HUGE hot rod nut so i have someone younger to talk cars with
eddierools I totally messed up a guy's brain when I told Him Kaiser sold Jeep to AMC and AMC sold to Chrysler. He asked, "Who The HELL is Kaiser'? It is a sad world we live in.
My Dad had a 68 polar white red stripes. fastback. It had a 318 v8 and when we went to visit my relitives in Trenton she loved to run around 90 on the Garden State Parkway.
Jay, I hate to tell you - and myself. I owned a junkyard from 1979 to 1994. Sad to say we crushed a lot of these. I remember some years had a crazy back glass - huge. Probably worth more than the whole car back then.
I love that body style. If I had restored it I would have painted it all black, factory sound system, no nitrous, 440 big block, 4 speed, with a much louder exhaust.
This car's Italian styling blew me away in 1978 when I returned from Peace Corps service in the Philippines. In fact when I first saw it from a distance i thought it WAS an Italian car. This same car in a convertible body, navy blue with a white top would be beautiful. I'd have the body reinforced for stiffness, 4 wheel disc brakes, closer ratio electronic power steering, maybe a good audio system WITH a CD player.
in 1968 Sox and Martin had a supper car clinic that i went to. they explained that raising the nose way up killed the traction. with the nose down a little, the nose would raise and shift weight to the rear.
Great car. I loved that era car. My first hot rod was a 68' Chevelle 327 with Muncie 4 speed. Then bought a brand new 74" Plymouth Duster 360 4 speed. They both were a blast to drive and pretty darn fast. The Duster was lighter, quicker off the line and better top end.
i noticed Jay's hand slipped off the ball shifter, i have a project 69 and i will have a one year later pistol grip in mine. but i have the a-833 to my upgraded 440 with aluminum heads, pump's no air. this car inspired me to paint it this way minus the Hurst rear 1/4 sticker. one each side common Hurst applique' on the lower front fenders look sharp. different rims and bigger meats with maybe a 6 pack scoop with 440-8BBL scripted. thinking twin E.F.I. for my version of modern up.
Hurst was big... but so was B+M back in the day. I remember a guy at school with a 66 charger running a B+M clutch-flight (a torque-flight with a clutch instead of a torque converter) with a manual valve body and reverse pattern. You had the lock-up of a manual with the shifting speed of an automatic. Brutal... a really brutal set-up. And who can forget the B+M hydromatics and powerglides??? Well, I guess many watching this video can, since they have no idea what I'm even talking about :(
I went with my dad to look at Dodge trucks in 77. You could see light through the door sills . There were runs in the paint. He bought a Chevy. Whatever happened at Chrysler was sad. My dad had owned a 67 roadrunner 383 and loved it too. He apparently wasn't as thrilled waking up to my mom pegging the roadrunner and leaving a Porsche in the dust going up the Columbia gorge 😄.
this is the upload time i have become so accustomed to. the last month has been all over the place. it's weird how you expect something, and when it doesn't come you're literally a little bummed out. just for the sheer fact that you plan your evening around it. lmao. anyway, i like this upload time! ;)
My mother did own a 1967 Barracuda back in the day. I wish she could have kept it so I could have it now. I would have restored it, put seat belts in it, and see if I could get a modern 5.7 liter Hemi V8 with power steering, power brakes, automatic, and air conditioning. A CD player would be great as well.
When I first saw one of these cars on a car lot,
I was sure no more beautiful car could be designed.
My Mother had a 1969 Barracuda, all bc they had the right shade of blue that she Loved!
Jay has so much knowledge, he gets confused sometimes, which keeps his shows grounded. Thanks Jay for another great video.
Jay, don't get me wrong, you were a great host for the Tonight Show, but I like watching these videos better. You seem really happy and in your element. Plus, I love your taste in cars. Throw us together at a good car show, and I think we'd get along just fine.

Hurst was just up the street from we're I grew up in Warminster Pennsylvania. The good old days !
Take us back to the old days, Jay. I love your show & the great cars.
67 Barracuda was my favourite year, nice looking car, that would have looked good sitting beside
my 72-W30 Hurst Olds. Bringing back fond memories. Thanks for the great video!
My all time Favorite Mopar Car Wicked 😊
That car is gorgeous.
You might be able to get it with the new one, but there's something about that old school horsepower, and the way it was put to the road.
67, 68, 69 Barracuda (AKA Baccaruda)...the best lookin' MoPar ever made IMO. I always loved it's looks.
I liked the 66 too
I do love the cuda’s but in my opinon nothing dodge made looked better then the coke bottle shape of the charger and the b body cars like the roadrunner and GTX they where my favorite.
fireball1322 Well 65,66,67 Fast Back Challenger We’re Actually The Nicest... IMO
fireball1322 I Called Them Bacadura..
Next door neighbor in Warminster Pennsylvania back in the day was a salesman for Hurst and we drove in a bunch of the Hurst cars as kids.
I'm with you Jay. The only time I turn on the radio is to listen to the news. The rest of the time it's LT1 through dual Flowmasters!
Had a pair of neighbors, one owned a '68 Hurst Olds 442 w/ 350 Rocket and the other had one of these '67 Hurst Barracudas w/ a 383(?) and Torqueflite. The barracuda was always my favorite. My gf had one with a slant 6. The motor was almost bulletproof.
And of course the back seat would fold flat with the under glass "trunk". Very practical.
Had a blue 67 Barracuda fastback in high school and totalled it, like an idiot. Fell in love with that car first time I saw it.
that would be a fun cruise night car
I just rode in my grandpas it’s very loud and it raffles but when you hit the throttle it’s sounds amazing. He has a 1968 red automatic convertible with air conditioning. PmcG521 thats what I was thinking
Ryan Axberg are you from wasilla?
PmcG521 IDK, team coco or something.
PmcG521 --all the dislikes are the pos Honda ricers.
***** Right, but that`s no reason to dislike the video... learn to use proxies folks.
The colors on this car is just beautiful
Finally this video is available in my country, don't want to miss out on Jay Leno's garage!
I had a 1965 Cuda with a 273 commander engine as my first car. It was great car; took me every where and I really enjoyed it. It had a special exhaust that sounded awesome.
Jays videos are always the highlight of my Sunday.

I love this style rim when they're clean and polished. No brake dust and they're so easy to maintain.
I think its a wheel you refer to
Zlatan Omeragic
What?

Yeah I agree!

Lol “great fun” “great fun” because the car car rolled over on the ride along ! Jay has a good sense of humor
Aabeautiful car Jay. I had a Dodge Dart with 3 speed transmission and 318 V-8 engine. Raced a BMWW down I-59 to college in Tuscaloosa. Left him in my dust. I see the green '66 Coronet in the background. We had one of those. Fond memories of that car. It gave its life saving us from a log truck.
I just went on Jay Leno garage internet channel to watch it, but sure I'll watch it again
At first this video was not available in Lithuania, now it is. I'm enjoying it now
Love all the pre 80's car. Would love to see more old cars. Not super cars. Thanks for showing
Jay ,I am a car nut also.Who else would buy a 1990 1LE-IROC-Z and put it away for 27 years? It still only has 6.3 miles on the od. No air or power doors, windows or radio.A real race car.
As heart would say, “You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick. Ooh, Barracuda.”
I have had a bunch of Barracudas. My 67 convertible with a 318 was my favorite, yet a 68 fastback was cool as the backseat could fold forward and the trunk would fold back, a huge deck for sleeping with glass above to see the stars. I miss old cars...
Nobody's cooler than Jay!He's a real down to earth guy and he loves cars.
She's baaaaaaack!! This Cuda is a beast.
MARKO
Yup. I had a 68 340 formula S 4 spd cuda. Love that car. That fold down rear seat option got used quite a bit if ya know what i mean ;)
Jay's cars are great but his stories are also great - funny. Jay is someone you'd want to invite to your picnic.
Beautiful car now. Just amazed at how well it has stood the test of time.
Thanks Jay.
+Alan Jones As an aging American I agree with you, Alan. Many if not most American shows are long on fluff and short on substance. Jay gets it right.
"Oh yeah that was great fun, that was great fun" lol when you know he got in a wreck!! @1:16
Yeah! And Jay nearly lost his arm too but thank God he pulled it back inside mid-roll
How interesting, my dad had a '68 340 Formula S in green also. Loved hearing his stories about his adventures in that car in late 60s Houston.
Had the chance to get one of these 67s back in the day and I still regret not buying it
0h, The Memories, Jay. The Memories.....What this bring back to this 0ld Man.
Just boughs a 68 notch back!! Very excited
67-69 Barracuda is very underrated probably my favorite Mopar of the 60's
My dad had a 68 340 formula s package notchback with auto torqueflite tranny...he said that car was freakishly fast and only lost to a 4spd cammed and built 340 dart swinger after getting back from vietnam...that he had beaten before shipping out. His buddies said, He's been waiting for you to get back and his car is built now lol
And the Marlin.
Why so many dislikes? Is this a Top Gear video or something?
WiseGuy02 Im in Canada and im watching. North American only?
gmodmagic I'm in UK and can watch it now. When the video was first published I couldn't, it was area restricted. I'm guessing that's why it generated a lot more dislikes than usual.
rocklobstersteve Yeah that's probably it
American Top Gear is anything but watchable
Isn't it sad when we have to explain to the younger gear heads what Plymouth, or Mercury, or even an Oldsmobile are?
talfacprez i was born in 1973, so i recognize some of those names, thankfully one of my younger friends is a HUGE hot rod nut so i have someone younger to talk cars with
talfacprez If you think it's hard to explain Plymouth and Mercury, try explaining AMC, Packard or Hudson to them, they'll REALLY draw a blank then! XD
eddierools I totally messed up a guy's brain when I told Him Kaiser sold Jeep to AMC and AMC sold to Chrysler. He asked, "Who The HELL is Kaiser'? It is a sad world we live in.
talfacprez To be fair not a lot of people know Kaiser. So it's not sad, now if he said "Who the hell is AMC", THEN we have a problem.
Hell half of them don't even know what a Plymouth was, nowadays, like my 75' Scamp. And I'm 25.
I had a 68 barracuda, 68 was the only year for the padded under dash for A body I think, loved that car, wish I still had it.
I love the black on black 68 Hemi Barracuda. One very tough looking muscle car & super fast.
Excellent work, sir!
Its perfect.
Hursty allways did it to perfection.
That is a nice looking car. You can tell some love went into this build.
I like the hemi coronet in the background!!!
Oh, that gold trim is gorgeous.... Never seen that before!
Just a beautiful car. My very first car was a 1968 Barracuda, oh the memories.
Mine was a banana yellow '72, 318. I know, but still plenty fast.
So glad you do this show Jay thanks from Minnesota
I love those cars so much! Would love to have an old school Barracuda to know with my new school Challenger! Mopar does it right.
My Dad had a 68 polar white red stripes. fastback. It had a 318 v8 and when we went to visit my relitives in Trenton she loved to run around 90 on the Garden State Parkway.
That's a tasty looking 1966 Dodge Coronet in the background. Can we see a video of that?
February You mean Corenet 500, there´s a video aomewhere
Vanila Kung nope. pretty sure he means a 66 dodge coronet, like he said.
Zeke Jake Shame since its a Hemi 500 Coronet
February There is a video on it. Check it out.
Mark G
If it's on Jay's YT channel, I can't find it.
I'm looking around the room in this video and seeing so many Mopars that Jay needs to talk about.
the video is not available in the UK thank God for VPN !!!!!!!
That's what you get for being a sillynanny 😄
Adam Cooper In the name of her majesty you best retract that statement ser or we shall be forced to negotiate peace terms.
OK thanks
Adam Cooper or a sillybum
landy kid wht is VPN?
Burn outs are the signature of your videos Jay.
Yet another Jay Leno's Garage episode with a flare!
Kudos to Jay for not mentioning the rollover in the Barracuda.
Much better looking than a mustang! Beautiful.
Jay, I hate to tell you - and myself. I owned a junkyard from 1979 to 1994. Sad to say we crushed a lot of these. I remember some years had a crazy back glass - huge. Probably worth more than the whole car back then.
These classic American muscle cars are SO cool! :) My neighbour just got an old Firebird with 600bhp and it sounds insane! :)
One of the most badass vehicle made.
One of the few car channels i regularly watch and it's one of tjhe best ...imo ,
Very cool. Member Jay was riding shotgun when gramps rolled the of car!
The orange challenger in jays collection is just beautiful.
in 1968 Sox and Martin had a supper car clinic that i went to. they explained that raising the nose way up killed the traction. with the nose down a little, the nose would raise and shift weight to the rear.
got worried yesterday ( not in your country) but all is ok and it got thumbs up.thanks.
Well, I guess many watching this video can, since they have no idea what I'm even talking about :(
Wow. That is SUCH a sexy car. Every inch of it.
Jay's mood..... Let get this over with.
this is the upload time i have become so accustomed to. the last month has been all over the place. it's weird how you expect something, and when it doesn't come you're literally a little bummed out. just for the sheer fact that you plan your evening around it. lmao. anyway, i like this upload time! ;)
Love the way that thing stood up in the rear during the burnout. Fantastic car, bring it back Chrysler - 340 and all.
