    Oh wow. Back in the 80,s I had two 68 Barracudas. One blue green coupe with the 340 auto.and one Black fastback with the little 273 auto. Those cars were so fun to road race with.. They cornered way better than the old 60,s Mustangs did.I got married and moved away and had to sell them both. I kick myself everyday. A lot of people think they are ugly..not me .I love the grill the most. Now the older like 64 with the huge back glass I couldn't warm up to.

    The first ‘cool’ car I ever drove was a 67 Barracuda notchback. My dad ran a gas station and rented Avis cars also. No idea what it had for a motor. Being a rental, I assume either the 273 V8 or maybe even a slant six but, to 14 year old me it might as well have been a Hemi! There was a parking lot on our way home and he would let me drive the last few miles home from there. Wishing a friend would see me driving that yellow Barracuda but, no one ever did. We lived in a very small New Hampshire coastal town and after Labor Day it was pretty much deserted. Great memory!

      Plymouth rated the 340 at 275 hp. The typical dynamic output was around 350, with some tuning taking it to 370. Insurance & the Nader crowd caused some imaginative #'s. I had a 68 318, & badly wanted the 340/Formula S. They were on the market for cheap by 73, but I was 17 & could not swing the insurance. I sa an ad in Revycler for a Coronet RT Hemi asking for a station wagon in trade, no money. HARD times. If you bought an LS6 in70, it was worth almost nothing in 73. Sad.

    • @plymouthdie-castreplicas
      @plymouthdie-castreplicas 6 месяцев назад

      @@ctbourbon Actually not true😁 The name 'Cuda did not officially appear until 1969, although this shortened term had been used before. From 1965 to 1968, the Barracuda with the Formula S package was the sportiest version. In 1969, the 'Cuda 340 or 383 version was introduced and it could receive similar equipment as the Formula S. Everything depended on the customer's wishes. It is definitely highly debatable. On the other hand, the cuda 440 M-code was just a "'Cuda". This probably also played a role in the fact that in 1970 it was no longer on offer.

Chrysler never could find the part nbrs for numerous other items. ???? I think the current owner is exaggerating the weight considerably. A slant six 69 Cuda is probably 2900#'s, maybe.
    A 340 drum brake Cuda is probably more like 3300#'s, maybe 3400#'s.
    I have a '67 360 auto which I've never weighed, but I've got a 340 64 Dart 4spd w/headers and front disks and it's over 3400#'s.
    Regardless, beautiful car with lots of NOS trim installed.

    there was a nice 69' savage 340 running around san diego but i havent seen it for a couple of years- somebody prolly moved to texas and took it with them. i have a 68 383-S MTM fastback in the shop now- she will be sweet when she's ready. why would the door glass be peculiar to the 69's? formula S was an appearance package as well. there were no emblem deletes- you had to do it yourself. i'd like to find a rehab-able 68 hemi car, but all i've seen are trashed. come on a 68 hemi cuda would eat that thing for breakfast.

      Then your friend must have put a Hemi in his car because the biggest engine you could order for these were the 383 & the 440 wedge engines . The 440 Barracudas were very rare . The only Hemi available for these would have been the B029 factory Super stock drag cars that Chrysler had Hurst build for them to sell to certain drag racers like Ronnie Sox and a few other well known Mopar drag racers. These cars dominated it's class back in its day and today they have their own class as well with others that have these cars and the Hemi Darts that were also sent from Chrysler to Hurst to build those as well . These cars now today with modern wheels tires for drag racing and better suspension are running high 7 s low 8 s in the 1/4 mile with no power adders like turbos blowers or nitrous just high octane race fuel .

      Respond to my comment if you're seriously looking for a '69 340. I might be able to locate one for ya or maybe even a '68 340. No hard sales tactics or tricks. I'll send you a classic car link you can click on.

      about 50K for a solid 340 car, more for the fastback, or S. more for the 383's, hemi, or Savage 340 (if you can find one- and if you do hang onto it like the green death).

    According to Babvvo and Tebbvo laws, sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime!
