A couple of oldies who just remain as teenagers !!!! Absolutely love this period .......Thankyou Jay and thankyou Mr. Jackson .
Man, Craig is a cool dude. He's definitely a real car guy and turned his passion into an empire. The way he and Jay talk about these cars in real terms, is appreciated. They were cool and were performance for their era, but they don't run or drive like a modern car.
Yes, and that’s why I like them, you have to pay attention and drive the car, and not have the car drive you.
I guessing a networth of a billion riding in that car
@@smokindragn1 Yes but he drives it. Smiles per mile.
Period 💅
Jay Leno is a national automotive treasure.
Yes, and that may be an understatement. Cars are in his DNA and it shows in every episode. Thank you.

Scotty Kilmer too.

@laserwizard INDEED!!! And I just plain enjoy him!!! I hope he lives to be 105 yrs. old!!!!!
I was lucky enough to have worked at Chrysler engineering during this time period. We had a blast developing these cars. At that time they were just cars to us we had no idea they would become high dollar collector items. It was a great time in the American auto industry.
Interesting...did you do any assembly work on the early '70 Hemicuda mule (red one) rumour is it was built in May/june 1969 by engineering in order to be the press car for the magazines.....Scott
@@scottatredline2934 we did some work on several mules that involved all different bodies. I don’t recall working on the (red) Hemicuda.
Have you read Walter P Chrysler's autobiography? He was a fascinating man.
@@mtpocketswoodenickle2637 No, I haven’t read that particular book. I’ve read several books on the auto industry in Detroit. I’ve also visited the graves of several icons of the auto industry at Woodlawn cemetery in Detroit.
@@trackman174you lived during our country’s golden age. Our country In my opinion is now dying a slow death.
We need a blooper reel of when Jay asks, “can we take it out for a spin?” and the owner shakes his head or says “no burnouts and I’m driving” - Jay’s expression priceless !😹
Do you remember the episode with one of Jonathan Ward’s cars, they Jay did a burnout outside his shop and the actual owner of the vehicle was there and things got awkward. 😂
@@Docstantinople Was this a RUclips episode or a MSNBC episode? I'd love to see that because I don't think I have.
Jay told Doug Demuro he was only allowed to sit in the McLaren lol
@@midnightryder611 I remember that episode, it was Doug’s review but Jay made Doug sit in the passenger seat while Jay drive lol
@@Docstantinople yes! The seating configuration in the McLaren made it absolutely hilarious!
Mr. Jackson and Jay Leno cruising in a multi-million dollar car. Thank you for this. It's really the best example of Mopar Muscle...
Great to see Craig Jackson and his amazing Cuda. Talk about two important people together in the car world. Really enjoyed this episode. Love watching the auctions as well
Mr.Jackson sells thousands of classic cars & no doubt keeps the absolute cream of the crop !!
👍👍to Craig & everyone who preserves these gorgeous cars
He bought that car before there was ever a Barret-Jackson auction.
JACKSON and JAY are ONE EYED JACKS
@@tuberNunyaBarrett Jackson has been around since the early 70’s.
This was great! It reminded me of many, years ago when I was a teenager there was a full- spread ad in Playboy. A yellow Hemi Cuda convertible, top down, with a white interior, sitting in a matching field of daisies. Caption: " The Hemi 'cuda. It goes as fast as the law allows. If you want to go faster, remember that Chrysler Corporation also makes cars for the law.". The Holy Grail, indeed.
Tell us about the other centerfold spread.
Sadly today’s kids today won’t have any good car stories. Thanks for keeping things alive Jay!
Yeah they will. Nobody forces them to buy a new car. You could buy any classic car.
@@vika0194 it will be a very small number that choose to do that.
Well, There is the guy in Seattle with his Hellcat Charger making headlines. He is Public enemy #1 according to our local media.
I disagree. Think about Corvettes, Hellcats, and Shelby Mustangs...
There are definitely some modern cool cars. Remember, A lot of it is nostalgia.
Awesome! I like what my 84 year old father in law says about classic muscle cars…”The problem is, they don’t drive any better now than they did when they were new.”
1971 426 plum crazy cuda, my #1 dream car. Love this thing
mine too, but in orange (it is 1970)
Two older guys driving around chitchatting, talking it up something they could do from coast to Coast and never run out of something to say, great to see
Their talk of the Gullwing made me think of Gumball Rally.
Commitment and down-to-earth attitude are truly inspiring. Keep it up.
My, oh, my, a 70 Hemi convertible Cuda in Plum Crazy Purple, my absolute favorite car of all time.
Oh yeah baby, Now that's a worthy car to be reviewed ❤.
That crazy plum Cuda is just spectacular. It looks so badass.
What an episode! The iconic Hemi Cuda, Jay Leno and Craig Jackson....the real trifecta here. Thanks to all those involved, just awesome.
Plum Crazy Purple was a very iconic color for Mopar over the years
My dad swears his '71 was plum crazy and I pointed out to him that it was only plum crazy if it was on a Dodge. On Plymouth's it was called "In Violet".
@@iamtherealzombie Indeed, like the Chevrolet Hugger Orange is Pontiac's Carousel Red.
No kidding? Really?
I seem to recall they also had a color called "Statutory Grape". In any event, wow, what a car!

Growing up in in late 1950-1960’s Spartanburg, SC- we had Bud Moore’s Garage, Cotton Owen’s Garage, several others that were big in early NASCAR racing, we saw Superbirds, 427 Chevys, 429 Fords- all the time around town. Should have bought them ALL and tucked them away when they hit the used car lots. Lenny Senn had the first ‘64 GTO in town, had it immediately balanced and blueprinted and hit the Greer Dragstrip, where he took home all the trophies. Fun times!!
One of THE most underrated Muscle Car of all time and STILL a legend.
Underrated ? That's everyone's dream muscle car, next to the 68 Charger.
I don't think you know what underrated means.
Over rated. For street use, guys would get a 440+6 Super Track Pak
What are you even talking about?
7 figures, totally underrated!
Craig and Jay - wow. Thanks Craig for bringing this out and showing it ....
I just want to say I want to thank Mr Jackson. Being a gen xer through your auctions you have gave me a chance and I'm sure many other people a chance to see cars that are embedded in our subconscious mind. Watching the auctions and seeing a hemi cuda brings me back to when I was racing my AFX cars as a little kid. In my eyes this car is priceless!
So cool to see a couple of real older car guys that love the times of these beautiful cars!!
Nostalgia ain't cheap.
But definitely worth it
Thanks guys, I had a smile the whole video. Love that Cuda!!
Props to Craig for having some Mopar cred- knowing that 1970 Street Hemis had hydraulic lifter, aluminum case 727, etc... but he missed on the E-body question. Cudas were on a 108" wheelbase while Challengers were 110"
Yes, Pete, it is. Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land.
I thought Cudas were 107".
Researched it, yep 108". My bad!
Caught that. Also a smaller detail - fender turn indicators weren't fiber optics, just tiny bulbs.
Love your car videos Jay !!!!!!!
Thank you Mr. Leno for another amazing car review and it’s always a pleasure when you do an episode with Mr. Jackson🙏🏽
Priceless Smiling from Craig while Jay is Screaming at the end of of the Video Hammering the Hemi Cuda '!! Awesome !!!!!!! ;-)
I luv a Hemi...But the best engine configuration for the street was the 440 6-pack...😎
Richard Carpenter agrees- that was one of the all time best Jay Leno Garage episodes. Watch it again. I like his black 440 a lot better, and his original owner stories are so cool.
YEP! Had 2 older brothers one was 10 years older the other was 6 years older. They both owned combos of Hemis, 440's and one had a A12 super bee. Anyway. I also owned a A12 automatic super bee car, was the second owner around 2002 and also owned a 67 Hemi GTX in the late 90's. Of all those cars the 440 6- pack cars ruled and were somewhat easier to maintain.
@@Sheehy223 A 440 engine or a 440-six-pack car. Anyway, both were great engines the Hemi did require more maintenance and I can tell you this, in the late 70's a set of Hemi plug wires were 115.00 bucks, I know that firsthand, lol.
Nah. It doesn't rev as high as the 426.
@@basshead. First, your comment is not that simple there are many factors to consider however, a 426 may rev a few hundred RPMs that is not enough to outrun a 6-pack car. 6-pack (440) will kill any Hemi out of the hole however on the big end the Hemi will come close to outrunning the 6-pack. As a matter of fact, if they were to race 1350/60 feet instead of the 1320 the hemi would win. Keep in mind that both cars were set-up exactly the same.
Thanks Jay, I've been restoring a 61 VW Bus and we're at the shakedown phase and been chasing rattles and squeaks but now I don't feel so bad when your guest said that's part of the charm of a old car.
This was just great guys, thank you! I've been a fan of Jay for a long while and used to go to the Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale many times. What a fun time it was to see these old cars.. and to think back to the days that I owned and drove some of them before they became collectors pieces.
Really beautiful car. Love this era of muscle cars.
Yup, worked on the body on one in the eighties - nice to see one completed can't wait...good teaser
Absolute Legends. The cars and the men alike. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
A lot of reminiscing between these two and so much knowledge, they could swap stories for hours. Great video.
Great show is always Craig Jackson just has a voice you just want to listen to
This has to be my favorite Leno's Garage episode ever
Fun episode, gentlemen! Very nice car, and it's great to know that Mr. Jackson isn't afraid to drive it; that's awesome! Old-school perfection. Thanks to Craig for bringing the car out, and thanks to Jay and the crew for showcasing it!✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Makes me smile 😊Thanks Jay❤
One of my favorite cars ever 💪🏻
Love the sound of the shutting door, priceless
Yup- that hollow, cheap, rattling, 70's mopar door closing sound!
The only purple car I lust after ! What a beautiful car ! 2 great car people who are keeping the hobby alive, bless them.
This was a delightful show. I remember watching Jay Leno's Garage and then switching over to the Barret-Jackson auction show that would always be on afterwards. Two men who know their cars talking about what they love was priceless.

I've got a very similar car, 1970 Hemi Cuda hardtop, but my engine is 472 cubic inches with 535 hp. It's a stick shift. The car is completely restored and drives amazingly. It turns heads just as much as my Lambo SV if not more.
Good memories from the Nash Bridges TV series.
Exactly loved that yellow cuda Don johnson was driving 😍😎
Does anyone notice that Jay has lost quite a bit of weight and is looking way healthier. Glad to see that he’s taking care of himself so he can be around for many more years.
Always makes for a great video when Jay has modern legends on the show... especially someone as fascinating as Craig Jackson with his wonderful stories.
We can see the pure joy in both your face. Both true car enthusiasts 👍👍
That Hemi Cuda is an awesome car to see! The 426 Hemi was a racing engine detuned for the street. I think the last Dodge Challengers and Chargers with the high performance Hellcats will be worth a whole lot in the future.
I agree. If I were rich I'd buy a couple and store them for 20 years.
Naah, can't be true. The most famous modern cars won't go up in value dude. They surely won't do what every single remotely similar thing has always done! It's like saying water is wet! We all know it can't be true! /sarc
They probably will, but they also made orders of magnitude more of them.
Two brilliant men
When Mr Jackson mentioned going to Beeline drag way with his brother really hit home. That is where you went as a drag racer when I was a young man. Or out of town in Buckeye AZ at the old airstrip.
Since retiring ten years ago, I have been collecting all the motorcycles I wanted or owned "back in the day" and he is right! You forget about barely functional brakes, two handed clutches, and how they all changed their own oil! Pour it in the top and it drips out the bottom! But good memories riding a country road when 60 is fast enough!
That's the kind of car Hollywood could write a whole movie around! or tv series
They did, Nash Bridges
My first car was a 1971 Barracuda I bought in 1977 for $1200. It was a 318 with a 3 speed manual on the floor. I was in college, so I didn't have much money, but I did buy a set of ET slotted alum mags with 60 series tires on the rear and 70 series tires on the front and glass pack exhaust. I loved that car even though it wasn't that fast, but it was a head turner and it sounded great. The screen saver on my computer is the only photo I have of that car.
what started it was the 65 GTO and Old's 442. glad i had a souped up 68 383 roadrunner in 71 and lived to tell the story! 12 sec quarters.
Thanks so much Jay and Craig❤
It's all about the "feel", sound, aura and history. And ohh man, don't they look GOOD!!! That's what makes cars like these worth every cent. Wish I had one. 😥
The sock in the pants comment from Jay took me by surprise 😂😂😂😂
That's Jay's version of working blue.
🏆Jay Leno 🏆 the 🍀king of cars 😎✌️
Beautiful. It's from an era before my time and the collectors have a lot more knowledge and money than I do, but the way it sits and rolls is just lovely.
True Hemi Heritage here! Thanks Jay. 😎👍😎
"Supertramp" 8-track cassette in the dash👍
This is a car you don't mind to "take the long way home" in 😊
Jay's dropped alot of Weight, .. lookin' Great Jay!
I hope he’s healthy.
Not to long ago
1.) Jay was burned working in his car shop
2.) And most recent was in motorcycle accident.
Never want to slow down but Jay has got to be little careful.
His wife has advanced dementia, I'm sure that takes it's toll. Knowing what kind of man Jay is, he probably burning the candle at both ends trying to keep her comfortable. Pray for Jay
@@Brian-my4tm Yes I knew that.
Definitely loved this guy talking, no rambling just really the facts about cars
These videos are so nostalgic. Remember watching these 24/7 when I was 15 and the formula hasn't changed a bit 👌👌👌🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
That's the thing about those old Mopars. Even new they didn't handle that great or even stop that well. I had a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus I bought two years old right out of high school and with the polyglas tires it handled terrible along with the factory disc brakes. I traded it in on a brand new 1975 Camaro and there was a world of difference with better brakes and radial tires.
I had a 70 cuda ralley red. 4 speed 383 magnum in 1973 for $2500. I know it wasn't as rare as this. I traded my 67 RS Camaro for it. But I sure wish I had them still. Dad and Mom bought a 70 cuda and it had the 440 six pack. I was 15 and mom let me drive it once lol (I only had a drivers premit) I was banded from driving again.
I had a 70 Cuda also 383 magnum got in early 1973 same price as yours, It was reddish orange. Sold it in 1974 for $1200.00 was all I could get. I still want one again.

That's one sweet ride awesome color that's great that he kept it all original did not do any modifications on it🎉
This was a great episode. Living in Az. I've been to a number of the Barrett-Jackson collector car auctions and the array of vehicles available for sale is off the charts. It was very cool to see Craig Jackson with his '70 Hemi 'Cuda and Jay talking cars and then driving this rare and iconic car whose value is likely off the charts.
I drove a '74 Barracuda off the dealer's lot 50 years ago and still have the car. Having been garage kept and driven just on weekends the past 35 years, it looks almost like the day it was made. Though the 'big blocks' were not available by this last year of their production, the rebuilt 360 with a few speed goodies added a few years ago makes for a nice cruiser with the windows down and some oldies playing on the under-dash 8-Track player. Yea, Like Craig said, the doors make a funny sound and there are some little rattles and squeaks...maybe that's the charm of the old cars. What's crazy about these old Mopars is that I can almost never stop at a light without someone rolling their window down to comment about the car, or to ask me what year it is etc. Mostly, I'm just very happy to see that Jay has highlighted cars like this Hemi on his show with car people like Craig Jackson. Enjoyed it.
It's cool that you've kept your Barracuda for 50 years.
@@stephenholland5930 Thank you for the note. What's crazy is that the car cost $3,460 out the door, including the tax, license plates and a full tank of gas. The only option from the dealer was the 8-Track player for $40.00. My wife and I traded in an old VW Bug plus $300 cash, so our loan was $2,250 for 3 years and a payment of I think $77.00/Mo. I remember we were driving home that night with the car and she said to me; "How are we going to pay that?"'...Lol. The Chrysler/Plymouth dealer was a friend of my father's. All these years later, the son of the now deceased dealer, calls me two or three times a year to remind me that if I ever sell the car he wants the first right of refusal to buy it. He's been looking for a car that his late father sold while owning the very first of his several dealerships in the NYC suburbs back in the day.
Thanks again, and take care.
Make America 🇺🇸 V8 AGAIN
The door closing does sound like a Mopar.
LOL you know old cars for sure. You could tell Ford GM or Chrysler by the starterm or the doors closing, etc for many years

Two greats in an incredible muscle car. Much thanks for these two Men!
It doesn't sound tuned properly. Like it goes lean as soon as Jay steps on it.
Sounds like that thing needs a freeway run-plugs sound fouled. Awesome car though.
Could be bad gas too. He has a bunch of collector cars and I doubt these old ones get much use. He's had this one for 25 years.
Incredibly stunning masterpiece! This car started my love and loyalty for Plymouth. Fantastic episode.
What a great video. I had a 73 with 340 and bought it new in Pensacola and a day later drove it to Kingston Ontario in 17 hours. It was the sadness day of my life. Jay this is a beautiful car and thanks for bringing Craig on with this great car. Drive safe both of you.
Why saddest, because you were tired?
This clip starts out with the biggest exhaust leak ever. Certainly not the sound the car made originally.
Nearly ends with it too 24:17. Ah the old stock not very likely to be flat exhaust manifolds. One of the good reasons to go right to headers on day one. At least those flowed better and would bend enough to seal if the mating surface wasn’t perfect. Which it wasn’t.
These auction clowns are the reason it's no longer afordable for the average person. Barret Jackson is better than the other joke of a show .
Collector car auctions are great for the seller and the auctioneers, who often collect from both ends. Agreed, prices are beyond silly.
Great show as always! This car brings back memories, wow.
Thanks for this!!! Beauty!!
Thanks to Craig and his stupid auctions who caters to the rich the average Joe will never be able to afford these again
You got that right
Yup. I don't find it entertaining to watch. People into it for money. Not too many people bidding with "mechanic hands".
Agreed, they ruined it for the joe 6 pack and that’s beer not a Chrysler 6 pack.
And this one doesn’t sound right.
Actually the auction have some great deals. What you see on tv is the crazy things that of course people fight over and people with money and egos that hate losing of course go crazy. But what you don’t see on tv are the great classics that go for great prices or under what they should.
Who else is excited to see another car none of us could responsibly afford? Jay, we don't want Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous Car Edition. We want car stuff we could appreciate with one of the few rich and famous that might get it. Let's see some fun budget builds under $75k.
Why 75? Why not 10 or 100
@@-barracuda-6742 just a number I thought maximized being obtainable while also being the least restrictive.
Agreed much less one of Craig's cars... he's the reason why so many of those muscle cars are unobtainable now a days. In high school a 440 cuda was like 10,000 bucks in today's money
@@idontlikecops1 Even by the late 90s I remember you would see plenty of cars like that just sitting in front of a person's house with a for sale sign. They weren't expensive. They weren't rare.
@Noneofyourbusiness2000 yeap. I graduated in 2000. Guy down the street had a pretty clean 68 440 charger rt for 8800 bucks
