    Do you love pretty, colorful printables but hate having to shell out big bucks for color ink cartridges? I used to feel the same way, and after trying many less than ideal options I resigned myself to the fact that simple, reliable color printing on a budget wasn't an option. I'm so excited that I have finally found a solution that really works! It's called HP Instant Ink. (Note: Affiliate or referral links are used below:

    After purchasing my HP Envy, I looked up the cost of replacement cartridges. I almost fainted. I can't imagine the outlay of cash needed to keep ink on hand from a retailer.

    Game Changer! Thank you.

    Go into your account near the end of your monthly cycle. 1. Paying for additional pages? As mentioned, grab a higher plan to save money. But immediately go back to your lower plan. It won't 'downgrade' until the next month. Set a once-a-month reminder and you're laughing. 2. Roll-over? Yes, but you can't save all unused pages and can lose them. So at the end of the month, if this is going to happen, maybe think about how you use those pages. Print flyers, menus, etc., for a friend's business for instance.

    BEWARE: You're 'renting' the ink cartridges. So if you print more pages than your monthly plan allows, you're billed for it, even with your own paper and even if the ink cartridges are full. And if you cancel your plan (like I did) the Instant Ink cartridges won't work once your subscription ends- you'll need to return them and buy new ones. This is straight from HP: " You can continue using the Instant Ink subscription cartridges until , but after that date you will need to replace them with HP Original cartridges from your preferred retailer.

      Hold on hold on I'm confused. I'm in college so I'm only printing about 8-10 pages a month max. So if I get their free plan and don't go over the limit, I'm basically getting free ink?? That doesn't sound right to me there's gotta be a catch... I mean how will they make any money that way?

    • @tracyw4156
      @tracyw4156 3 года назад +4

      @@Aj-me8mo I'm assuming most people go over and incur the charge for the extra pages..on the free plan I believe it's $1 every 10 pages or so.

    • @GetOrganizedHQ
      @GetOrganizedHQ  3 года назад +2

      Right, it is charging you per page you print not by how much ink is used. If you print a page with one tiny bit of text (not sure why you would but maybe there is such a situation), then you wouldn't come out ahead.

    • @GetOrganizedHQ
      @GetOrganizedHQ  3 года назад +2

      There isn't really a catch - I think most people end up printing more and eventually pay, but if you truly do only print those small number of pages, it really is free.

    The HP Instant Ink service may work well for you, but use some caution. If you enter into the agreement it is very difficult to unwind out of it. I signed up for the service because my printer is 10 years old and I feared that soon cartridges would no longer be available in retail stores. I signed up for the 100-page based on past usage ($5.99/month). After a couple months I received my first package toner cartridges in the mail (even though I still had functioning cartridges that I installed--how proactive?!). Then my teacher wife printed some worksheets for her class at the end of the school year. That 1-time event exceeded our 100-page limit to the tune of $68.15. I contacted HP Instant Ink, but even though our printer usage for June, July and August will be nil, they remained very rigid in their page limit. I decided that the penalty associated with a 1-time event was too great (since the replacement cartridge is less than $30 retail) so I cancelled the service. That did not prevent future additional charges, so I needed to block HP Instant Ink from my credit card (and may need to replace my credit card to avoid future charges). The service also continues to monitor the printer. The first thing you need to do is replace any cartridges received from HP Instant Ink. Even though you literally paid for those, they will not work after the service is cancelled. Going forward any updates sent to all current and past HP Instant Ink printers will require you to reset your printer (unplug, wait, plug back in) to make it work. This annoyingly seems to happen late at night or when you really want to print something quickly. I have discussed this with other users and the long-term solution is to replace my printer (even though it otherwise works very well). Anyway, my story is not unusual and while the service can be very convenient, you may want to reconsider how much of an inconvenience it is to pick up your cartridges while you shop at Walmart, Target, etc. The money you think you are saving can become excessive that one time you go over your contract's page limit.

    This is MY experience and I am not even sure if they still run the program this way....
    I did not have a good experience with "HP Instant Ink". My printer came with a year of of "instant ink" and I thought that it was great - at first! It is on me for not reading the "fine print" as they say. I bought my printer in February or March. I normally print less than 200 "pages" a month. FYI - it doesn't matter if it is a full text document that fills the page or "error" pages that just have that little odd 3 characters in the corner or blank pages - it is on a page counter so it can be empty. So if your printer goes crazy when you walk out of the room and prints 50 of those "error" pages then it is counted as a page. The free instant ink takes your average of the 1st month and uses that to supply you and "charge" your account. I do payroll so 50 checks 2x a month plus about 20 pages of reports each time. All of this was great until January came around and it was time to print W2s and end of year reports AND have 3 payrolls in one month!! G*d forbid you have to reprint your W2s - 120+ employees with 5 copies for each employee. Next thing I know I am locked out of my printer and being told I can not print unless I pay the $130 bill because I have gone over my established monthly average even with the roll over of unused pages. Now if I had started my usage with January and all of the printing I did for the end of the year I would have been fine but because I started with a month when I printed very little it assumed that was how every month was going to be. In the middle of trying to get out my W2s and reports I had to call and pay this bill before I could proceed further not to mention go and buy different ink cartridges bc I couldn't use the ones that had been sent from "Instant Ink" unless I wanted to be charged further.
    I am not sure if they have changed their parameters but if that is still how they are doing the "free", unless you pad your usage up front be prepared for a bill for those time you go over.

    My mother had it since 2017. She pays the $9.99 for 300 sheets for her daycare. She loves it and her 8720!
    I think she forgot to mention that the printer requests the ink on its own and the ink will always arrive way before you ran out of ink.

    I work at Staples an HP rep told me about this I'm in college and I'm in a class with an e book and I have seizures so I have to print instead of reading on screen to prevent seizures each one is up to 56 (so far) pages which leaves 44 pages left for copying which we don't do that much of either so I signed up for the 300 page plan for right now just to start off. Can't wait to see how it goes. And the rollover is awesome too. Hopefully I don't go over highly unlikely but I know I'm gonna go 100 which I chose at first, plus the rollover so don't have to pay per set after that because only $11.99 (+tax) that's a steal.

They will sent out cartridges one month and then take 3 months to sent out another set, so you got to call or chat and ask for extra cartridges.

    I happily gave HP the boot today. Their InstantInk service was half-honest. They tried to force me to use their HP Photo paper, and they programmed their system to reject any use of MY PRINTER that did not match their greedy intent. I paid for their service for years. Printed documents when needed. When trying to print photos, my efforts were always met with failure and a warning, "Insert HP Photo Paper". A few times I got it to use less-costly paper, by blocking the manufacturer's imprint on the back of the paper, so the printer could not detect it, but that is too laborious. Goodbye, HP, and good riddance.

    FYI, this plan is not great if you mainly print BW. I tried it at the highest level and ended up with so many extra unused color cartridges since they send you both the color & BW cartridges each time. And if you stop the plan and have a lot of unused cartridges they will only work for 30 days after you stop the plan. Maybe it's great for color but ends up being a waste of money for BW since HP counts the pages you print and not the actual ink consumption of the cartridges.

    • @iamdenislara

    I love this service, especially the free plan. However it cost HP like a buck to manufacture a cartridge, yet they sell them for 20 bucks and sometimes even more. Their printers cost anything from 40 to over 100 dollars. A cartridge using the free 15 plan will last roughly 6 months if you print 15 A4 colored pages per month. So in the end, free or paid, they still earn money - But so do I (or save money rather). And that's ok in my book. I dont print a whole lot these days, except for bills, occasional documents and photos - And for that, this service is exceptional. Sometimes I use more pages, but it's only a buck for 10 pages extra. Hardly worth shedding a tear over, but HP still earns money. All in all though, I'm happy with the free plan.

    I learned about this last October and bought an HP printer during a Black Friday sale. I love it. I’m not scared to print out color pages anymore. I believe that’s the biggest advantage to the plan for me. I would always print everything in B&W before. The one thing I don’t like though is that I’m working from home at the moment (I’m a paralegal) and I’m printing a lot of pleadings. I brought home the copy paper we use at the office and the ink is so dark that it shows through to the other side when printing double sided. Do you know any way I can make the print lighter?

      Should be included in the printer settings, you can also change it on your computer if you wanted to. If you want more help then please share info on your printer and computer that you're using. The hp app for windows and Android both have settings which include saturation, brightness, etc that should help reduce the amount of ink soaking your pages.

      Under Media Quality in your HP Printer settings, you can print in "draft" mode and it will make the print lighter

    Ok- I'm a homeschooler that prints a lot so I love the idea of instant ink, but what about the best color printer for 100-300 pages a month? The reviews are pretty horrid on anything new. Can you help a girl out? What are the best printers to get? This would be a secondary one, so I am not looking for expensive, just able to print color for lapbooks and picture examples for art class.

      Get an Epson Ecotank. Price of the printer is high, price of the ink bottles is very cheap. I would recommend a model with pigmented inks, these are more expensive, but pigmented inks are better suited for high quality plain paper printing.

      People can not downgrade to the free plan once they start with paid plan. Will people downgrade to this 0,99 dollar plan if they hadde 2,99 dollar plan earlier. How many pages is included with this minimum plan and does it allow people to roll over pages to next month?

    But can’t you just buy the ink as you need it?? Do you really need HP to keep track of the number of pages you print per month to determine when you need ink?? Then charging you by your printing habits so “they” can sell you “their” ink?? I can keep track of the ink I use and when I need replenish it. Charging me according to my printer usage is just over-the-top for me. Sorry!

    I just bought a new 6065e hp printer from Best Buy and I haven’t opened the box yet …..”instant ink” and the ability to shut down your printer if you try to use a cartridge made by someone else is disgusting to me and I’m surprised it’s even legal. May look at other brands and return this one …..I don’t like the idea of HP “controlling” how I use my printer and although this lady seems satisfied if you research “instant ink” it is not liked by most who use it.

    Instant ink is a scam! I lost money with HP when I rollover more than 300 pages and due to bank changes I forgot to make the changes with them. They locked my printer and I was not able to print anymore. So I paid and did not get back all te pages that they owed me. It is not worth it, HP is a SCAM!

      I've used instant ink since Oct 2016! I'm starting my SEVENTH year. I print 300 pages per month and I've saved 50%+. My printer is always clean and I never clean it. That's because the cartridges are very durable and never leak, break etc.

  • @a.m.9357
    @a.m.9357 3 года назад +1

    This is a big scam from HP. Absolute rip-off.
    100 pages a month is hardly sufficient. Most of the time you need to print 2/3 draft ones. Also, at times the printer messes up, or the borders aren't right, etc., so you print the same doc multiple times. Even if it's a 5-page doc, you will go over your price plan within days (unless you go for the higher price plan). It still looks too expensive. It's an utter pile of ** and a lot of trouble. You have to stay at home to take delivery, then go to the post office and send it all back.
    I bought an Epson EcoTank model and after a year and half of occasional home use, it still has 70% ink left! But same usage previously, with ink cartridges, I would have to buy one or the other cartridge almost every month.
    The ecotank print quality is slightly lower than those, but if it's occasional home use for general purpose and official b&w documents, it's more than sufficient. Plus, I bought mine when the tech came out new. I am sure they have now improved the quality too.
    Go for Eco Tank (Epson) or Ink Tank (Brother) or other manufacturers that offer tank ink. Those are a lot, lot bigger, cheaper and last ages.

    With Instant Ink, it's only a great deal if you print close the maximum pages you are paying for and even better if most of your pages are in color. It is no different then going to an All You Can Eat Buffet, you pay one price whether you have 1 or 10+ dishes.

    HP makes money more so on ink, not mainly printers. I cancelled my membership when I realized HP charges you for each sheet even if you type only one character. I thought I was paying for ink only, but ends us you pay for each page you print even though you pay for the paper. Thumbs down from me.

    This must be a paid promotion. Instant ink is a complete scam. You're paying a monthly fee, even if you're not replacing your ink. You pay for it even if you have extra ink in hand. As soon as you cancel your subscription, they will shut down your printer. They literally shut down your printer until you subscribe again. It's a complete scam. This video is a promotion for them. You're paying for printing, why would you pay for printing at home. Complete scam.

      @@JB-us4zp not true; not only will those ink cartridges not work; but they do shut down your printer for a period of time - making it impossible to print even after you cancel the plan and add in store bought hp ink. I had a friend who thought it would be a good idea to cancel the plan and just buy the ink (hp brand) herself (because hp failed to send her the ink on time like they were supposed to - and she had a 60 page essay that had to be printed the next day) to come to a notice on her printer that her printer will be down for a month unless she re-subscribes... its bullshit lol
