I have 145,115 when I found your video. I had just deleted 2,000 before finding you. Got tired of trying to delete them so slowly. So I decided to search for a faster way.
I needed this today to deal with the email overwhelm.
I haven't beat you but I have 62,516. I'm so glad to come across this video. I have AOL though so I have to figure that out. Thank you for this info.
Thank you, Thank you!!! I really needed to see this! Just finished archiving all my e-mails and it feels sooooo good to start back at zero!!!!
It does feel good to start back at zero.
Weeping with joy! Thank you!
I thought I had a lot at 5,263... I am so excited to get your tips.
I have 90,000+ emails in my google, and 70,000+ emails in my Yahoo. I just got a new outlook work email that's already aquiring email fast. I needed a drastic solution to figure out how to get to inbox zero. I am dedicating tomorrow to it. I am gonna declare email bankruptcy using this video. Thanks!
Great!! Let us know how it goes!
Thank you so much!!! I am going to do this tomorrow first thing.
Wow, Thank you so much! Next time I get on my computer I'm going to do exactly this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Glad it helped!
Great tips, Laura! Thank you!
Um I kind of love you for this!!! But seriously , I found your channel through Minimal Mom and the organizing HQ virtual meeting. So glad I did !!
Me too!!
Thank You! Very helpful!!!
Okay! I am still teachable! Thanks for all the lessons!!
I love the labels on your bins!
Hello I love your videos very helpful do you have to create a label to find the emails later after you archive it.
Oh thank god! I'm not the only one. I have 28K and now i'm ready to declare email Bankruptcy!
Thank You I'm doing this because my email inbox # is driving me crazy!!!
Another good way to clear out your inbox is to a) sort by name. You can easily delete emails from companies you don't need to read any more ( home decorations after you've finished the remodel or pet toys/food but your pet has died, etc.) b) Some people don't know that if you click on the first item you want to select in a list (sorry Mac users, I only know Windows) then hold the shift while you click on the last item you want to select and all the items in between will be highlighted. Then click delete (or right click and click on move or copy, etc) and those items will be gone. I then switch back to sort by date so I can see the most current ones. I spend 20 minutes a couple of times a year and can clear out all my no longer needed emails. Easy peasy.
Great tips, thank you!!
This was very helpful. Thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
This helped so much! I had close to 70,000 emails in my personal email!
So glad it was helpful!
#replay, I use filters for all of my emails too! When creating the filter you need to tick the bottom box 'apply to all matching emails' as well so it moves all emails in your inbox, not just the one you've clicked, it bulk moves all emails from that sender into the Label. Hope that helps, I enjoy watching your channel from Australia :)
Great tip!
Thank You!
Great advice!
Glad you think so!
I only have 2614 and that that was bad, but that is before I did a big clean up because google would not allow me any more unless i upgraded of deleted stuff.
Wow !!! Thanks this helps
Glad it helped!
how did you creat the "junk" label?
Im embarrassing i have 10 accounts and more than that in each...so thank you for the tips
THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome!
This is so helpful!!! I have 35,000 or so and I was trying to delete it all and it was just so exhausting. I’m going to get on this!! Thank you. I have used Unroll.me in the past. Your solution is better bc you can search through emails still!
You got this!
so how do you create your folders? Sorry!
Do you pay for extra space on Gmail?
Great Info! I Wondered what the archive button did!
Laura, Thanks for help with my email,
Happy to help!
Thank! I was never quite sure how the Archive option worked - I was afraid I wouldn't be able to easily find them again. I have 48,460 Unread emails in my personal account. I created a 2nd In Box to put all the emails I know I want to look at later. I have tons of Newsletters too. 😖
No worries, they're all still there if you archive them.
I have a question. At the bottom of the front page it tells how much percentage of our Gmail account is used up. Does that % keep adding up when stuff is put into archive? I assume if we reach 100% we are done getting free service and have to pay? Can you help?
Yes, the stuff in your archive counts toward your storage limit. To free up space, you do have to actually delete things permanently. (Make sure you delete stuff in your spam folder and empty your trash folder - stuff stays in trash for 30 days.)
Does archiving the email take up space in your google account overall?
Yes, it does. The only way for it to not take space is delete it altogether. Archiving an email just makes it so you don't see it in the "Inbox" but you can still search for it and see it by clicking "All Mail"
I have 34,000 emails
YIKES! I ended up losing a lot of emails when I tried to create a filter. After I created the filter, I went into my Inbox and selected those same emails and deleted them and it took them out of my inbox and also out of the new folder I'd just created? What did I do wrong?
We often call the tags/labels on emails "folders," but they technically are not folders, just tags. So that means you only ever have one copy of an email (but it can have as many tags as you want). So if you apply a tag (which feels like putting it in a folder), it does NOT move out of the inbox and into the folder/tag that you applied. Instead it applies the tag and does nothing with the email in the inbox. when you archive something, it removes it from the inbox (which is essentially removing the inbox tag), but it retains any other tags you have applied. If you delete in email, that is deleting it completely out of the system. In your case, you wanted to archive instead of deleting.
Laura gave a good explanation. There is also the option to filter (so apply the tag/label) AND have it automatically skip the inbox (so automatically archive it) and/or go into a subcategory (like social networks, ads/promotions, etc.) But yes, emails and inboxes can be so trying! Good luck!
Ugh! 56,050 and was working on some of those today!
totally understand!
That was interesting. I miss the one you had about the cell phone.
Is there any way you can send that to me. Thanks 😎
You can watch the cell phone video here: ruclips.net/video/rOU0nWJQqbo/видео.html
33,718 🤦🏾♀️
About 6,000 unread
How do I empty email from delete box
At least in gmail, if you are in the deleted/trash folder, then there's often a button to empty the trash or you can select all (select the very top check box + that does it automatically) + choose "permanently delete" (that button appears for me next to the "select all" check box once I've checked it) Good luck!
Mine has been at 99k+ for yrs and i finally spent hrs one night only to get it to about 80k 😬😅
I have three accounts -total is 10, 276
You're doing better than I was!
43059!!!
Nope, not even close. But I still need to clear some out.
I only have a phone, not a computer screen. It doesn't tell me exactly how many. Just 99+. It shows only 6 per screen. Frustrating.
I have 68,364
Wow, that's about the same as me.
107,000+.... I’m so bad.
Not bad, just overwhelmed in your inbox (me too :) ) Good luck!
I beat you, I have over 112K emails .........
I got it down to 110K unread emails! (just searching for a certain sender and unsubscribing/deleting old emails).
Update: Sept 25, down to 102K!!! This takes forever, but I'm making progress! 🙂
down to 99271 from over 110,000. Unsubscribing like crazy still 1000's per day
