Even though many people find season 4 disappointing, season 4 have the best character development and character driven plot. So keep up the reactions coach.
Hi Coach! I just wanted to say that although people are saying the art style in season 4 isn’t the best, I think it’s good to remember that even with a different art style, it’s still the Haikyuu we all know and love! Besides I was so in love with the series that I didn’t even notice the art style change until someone pointed it out to me when I was rewatching! It may be different but honestly I love it just as much as the original art style :)
One of my favorite things about this series is how it NORMALIZES CRYING for these highschool boys. Furudate-sensei (creator) did a great job in showing us how passionate/invested these young athletes are in their sport, helping us empathize with the heartbreak that comes with losing.
Ushijima and Tendou's friendship is so nice. Tendou isn't scared to talk to Ushijima and isn't put off at all by his stoicness, and Ushijima proves with Tendou that he's completely able to have a normal conversation, he's just a reserved guy and nobody else tries to have that back and forth with him.
Hi Coach! Before watching the OVA, let me tell you something about Tokyo preliminary so you won't get confused. Since Tokyo has so many school, they usually got two slots for national championship. The prefecture that hosting the tournament also get an extra slot as well. So there will be three representatives from Tokyo that year.
Back in episode 7, the Shiratorizawa coach said that if they played a bad game, he’ll make them run back to school. After they lose, he simply asks them to get on the bus. It’s not much but it’s his way of telling his players that they played a good game. (And that’s why they all just smile at the end cause they understood what the coach was saying.)
I can’t imagine how fast weeks went by and Coach finished Season 3. It’s been 60 weeks since Coach started reacting to Haikyuu.Thank you for every reaction video Coach keep up the good work.
One small thing I love in this episode is Tsukki bowing to the audience with the team. Every other game, he’s the only member who doesn’t bow when thanking the stands, then once he discovers his love for the game and give it his all, he joins the team in bowing. Just a tiny detail that makes his character feel way more fleshed out!
The editor adding in a sad kenma when coach was talking about his younger years was beyond funny!!
I think the most interesting thing about Ushijima is that he doesn’t actively do anything to other people to make them not want to talk to him. He’s a bit direct and to the point, but that’s about it. His physical presence intimidates people more than what he actively does. People assuming he’s this intimidating guy and don’t try to really engage with him out if their own assumptions. Tendo like you said, either doesn’t acknowledge that presence or ignores it and decides to engage him like any peer would. I think this is what leads to their unusual friendship.
About Tendou... He's deeper than just a "weird" character, I'm happy you saw that.
When the Shiratorizawa Coach says, "Once the awards ceremony is over, get on the bus," it's actually a reference back a couple episodes where Tendo mentioned that if the coach isn't satisfied with the game, he'll make everyone run back to campus instead of the taking the bus as punishment.

Fun Fact: Spring Tournament used to take place in March, so it is called "Spring" Tournament. In Japan, seniors graduate in March, so they could not participate in the tournament before. It moved to January to allow seniors to compete from 2011.
When Ushijima says he will beat them next time, it is a huge compliment to their skills.
This is the reminder you asked for.

Just to add to the choir: the artstyle in season 4 may be less detailed, since it‘s a different animation staff and in comparison to season 3 the animation also isn‘t quite as strong, because it is a higher episode count, but the first half of season 4 actually looks very good. It‘s the latter half that suffered a bit in quality due to the global pandemic, with some episodes being outsourced to cheaper teams with no experience drawing Haikyuu and little time both for them to get used to it and animation supervisors to correct the off-model art. Animation is also a little limited in the latter half. But it still does a good job telling one hell of a story.
