It is similar in basketball. Sure, a cracking dunk gets the crowd off their seats, but defensive play in an almost hopeless situation that surprises everyone, those plays hype the crowd up.
@@sunrayyourmom Yeah. The offense has basically the advantage all the time and defensive plays overcome the odds. Look at Giannis blocking Ayton last year. I've also watched many games of the KD Warriors. KD might have insane offensive plays (that look easy), but the crowd always exploded after a clutch defensive play.
The coach immediately going "omg Kageyama said 'nice receive' to Hinata, we gotta hear that again!1" had me in stitches :"D One of us!!! I also really loved how they had this seemingly anticlimactic development of Karasuno losing such an important point over a lucky net-in from Inarizaki, but then turned it around in the best way possible with Hinata cheering everyone up, especially with Suga thinking all the way back to the first time he witnessed Hinata nailing his first important dig - the one that finally made Kageyama toss to him.
"Yesterday's already gone, what are we going to do today? We don't need the memories." I actually LOVE this quote so much. I made it my senior quote when I graduated from college last year.
Your interpretation of Inarizaki's banner is absolutely right, coach. But another one that I get is that is very common in Japan for students to join a club during highschool just because it's part of their culture and student life, so when they grow up they have the memories of when they were young. So the banner "we don't need the memories" means that they are not playing volleyball for the memories when they grow old, but because they love it and wanna be the best.
That was my personal interpretation. I always hear join the club or try the activity. The experience of being there and the memories are worth it even if you don't win. I take it as, we aren't here for the memories. We are here to win.
You are absolutely correct about this. All japan students have memories of high school club activities and what they are saying is that they don’t wanna end that there. It’s a shame that the japanese word for memories doesnt really have the same exact meaning as the memories by English. It’s hard to explain when it comes to words that only exists in Japanese… hope Coach Donny understands 🥲
Just a heads up, the coach shown in the faculty room is actually Anabara, the coach for Johzenji (the wild, unpredictable yellow team from season 2). He was one of the coaches that helped organize the first year training camp for Miyagi Prefecture, so that’s why he is so shocked at Hinata’s receive after watching him as a ball boy. Also you are correct, the reason for the reaction to the twin quick this time was that they did the ‘reverse’ version, where instead of Atsumu quick setting and Osamu hitting, they switched and Osamu quick set and Atsumu hit. Also, that was Tanaka who said he was gonna swallow his pride and ask Kageyama to do something (which they’ll address next episode :D)
Coach just needs to rewatch S4 the 1st part where Karasuno vs Date Tech had a practice game for him to know why Tanaka said that to Kageyama. And also coach needs to know #5 jersey is Tanaka and #11 jersey is Tsukishima
"chance favours the prepared minds" a quote from the previous captain of Karasuno - the one who was talking to daichi, suga and asahi when they were still first years
"he who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom" hit me the most because as an athlete there is no shortcut to becoming a good player you always must begin to basics
The play where Osamu fakes into a set, the reaction shot we get from Atsumu(where he laughs) is the reason he is one of my favourite characters. It's rare in this show that we get to see the characters have that much fun in a game. They're always so concentrated on getting better or winning that they miss moments like that where something cool happens and you can't help but laugh at it. Not to say they aren't having fun in their own way. I know they are but I enjoy that Atsumu is so good that he can just enjoy the game as a game in those moments. Also, nice changes on the subtitles! Accessibility is always a positive!
Coach Donny: "Let's see what Coach Ukai says to lift their spirits..." Our lil' ball of sunshine: "OKAY BUT... DID YOU GUYS SEE MY SUPER-DUPER-AWESOME RECEIVE????!!!!" Seriously though, I remember literally getting misty-eyed with this moment, even before the Olympic coach had that internal monologue, because I instantly realized that this was the result of all the hard work, and even embarrassment, that Hinata had to go through in the beginning of season 4. Funny how I was so upset when Shoyo didn't get chosen for the training camp, and I felt so sorry for him, but it turns out that being a ball boy was one of the best things that ever happened to him. This proves that you can take a situation that might seem adverse at first, and you can turn it in your favor through pure hard work and determination. I'm so proud of our little libero!
The part I love the most about it is actually Kenma's and Noya's reactions. Noya is proud because he saw what Hinata was doing the entire time: learning, calculating, predicting. Noya encouraged him every time and complimented his positioning when he got too close to the ball and when everyone else was laughing at him. I love Kenma's reaction because he's just so fond of Hinata. Kenma sees Hinata as someone who is an infinite source of possibilities. And he's just fond that Hinata is here surprising everyone over and over again. Always with something new and something better. I just love them so much for believing in Shoyo. o)-(
Watchin' coach thinking for 5 minutes "is it Tsukki or Tanaka?" with the player's number on his back at the center of the screen all the time makes me scream internally. :D
I feel like I should be used to his eternal confusion over who's saying what (come on, their voices aren't even similar) but it still annoys me. Tsukki wasn't even on screen at that moment, and they zoomed in on No. 5! I love him for his volleyball and animation insights, but coach needs to get on with the who's-talking thing by now.
Hinata’s expression after he realizes he made the receive is one of my favorite things in all of Haikyuu. The look of pure shock and elation, and the way his hands are shaking. Because he knows that all his hard work as a ball boy paid off, and that he is growing into a truly great player. What a moment.
i find it so wholesome that the first person they show the reaction to Hinata's receive is Hyakuzawa (two meter guy that Hinata helped at camp by slowing the game down with a high pass). It's fun how it then shows everyone that Hinata inspired before.
“Hinata is gonna get hit the face” oh the doubt that coach Donny saw in him 😂 We finally reach the moment where Hinata has grown so much! Haikyuu is such a deep story telling that we can all relate to. Next weeks episode is gonna be dialogue heavy so it would be great for you to pause at some moments to dive deep and analyze what they say!
Love these coach ! Gets more depth in these last few episodes ! When the rewatch begins you’ll begin to realise just how in-depth the writers truly went in the story telling and character development, cant wait :) !
Honestly, that's kind of just Hinata's entire philosophy for playing volleyball, summed up by Osamu. He's always chasing that next meal, i.e. continuing to play volleyball for as long as he possibly can. Improving as a player feels sort of somehow secondary in his mind, as he hears from Kageyama early on (to paraphrase) "The stronger you are; the longer you get to play". Alot of the players in the show, especially competitive ones focus on getting better because that's the most natural to them, but Hinata's actions always seem to be in service to his first desire which is to just play more volleyball because he loves it so much.
I don't think they directly mention it in the anime (correct me if I'm wrong, maybe I forgot x), but Asahi clenching his fist is a part of his pre-serve routine now - something Ukai recommended him to do to get rid of excess energy (like swimmers and gymnasts bunching up their shoulders).
They explained it more in the manga - but because Asahi is so nervous coach suggested that he clench his fist as hard as he can and then relax. Like op said swimmers and gymnasts do it to get rid of excess tension
@@Squeekysquid When you are tensed, sometimes your body overreacts with the stress you are feeling making you feel stiff. To relieve some of that stress/tension, it is a good practice to clench your muscles then relax just as how Asahi clenches his fist then relaxes before serving the ball or swimmers clench their shoulders before diving.
@@Squeekysquid he practiced controlling the power of his serves. he was doing it when the first years were in their training camps where he gradually goes from 70 percent to 100. as for the excess energy, dont exactly remember if it was mentioned, but i think it was more implied that he conserves his energy cuz he is the ace after all and if kept going at 100 percent from the start he prolly wouldn't last this long.
You might have missed it, and it is also confusing since they are twins, but what the Miya twins do at the beginning of the episode is what they call a "minus tempo reverse", meaning that they switched their role, and the one usually setting it is now spiking it.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Yeah. It just goes to show how even the two actually are. Atsumu's the better setter, but Osamu Is still a good enough backup setter, that he was able to get a grasp on the freak quick just like his brother. Albeit not as quickly. In just one game, they've already innovated the freak quick further than Hinata and Kageyama did in the span of half a year.
@@samuelsoliday4381 osamu is just stupidly good sometimes i still find it hard to grasp that karasuno beat inarizaki like dw i absolutely love karasuno's upset bcuz it genuinely highlights their journies and development, but inarizaki is so stacked as a team its absolutely nuts
@@samuelsoliday4381 yeye, that's the beauty of haikyuu actually nationals as a whole is not really about karasuno's skill level anymore (that was in the qualifiers for the most part) its' the experience they've developed from all of that skill that begins to define those moments as a manga reader whose read the entirety of the nationals arc, the nekoma match is literally the embodiment of *this is how far we've gotten*
This episode always makes me tear up. As a volleyball player for my school, often a bench warmer and doubted due to my abilities being subpar to my peers, seeing Hinata finally mastering a perfect receive after so long, always serves as inspiration for me to try harder, and always acts as a kind reminder to the times where I’ve made a genuine contribution on the court.
This episode and maga make me tear up everytime I watch . Hinata finally pay off to his effort. It is a long way for him especially when he was a ball boy.of course next episode story line is also so good .
hey coach a cool little detail i noticed is that throughout the game hinata was being in the correct spot and almost making a pass and the only person to notice was nishynoia. he keep smiling and staring at hinta, so it’s a nice foreshadow the libero was noticing his development
One of my favourite quotes from this episode (out of many incredible ones) is "When you have a bite when your starving, you only get hungrier." This is basically is more nuanced version of Bokutos quote of getting that moment where you sink further in love with volleyball. Hinata has been deprived of the feeling of getting a good dig in, so when he finally is able to get it, it only makes him more hungry to experience that feeling again. I can relate to this quote so much its ridiculous. I play football (soccer) and it would be like the feeling of scoring a really nice goal or freekick. You can never get enough of it.
These next episodes are gonna be amazing, honestly so many good moments in every episode, next episode you'll see some character development for other characters. Also coach, if you do subtitles, youll probably want people to subtitle what you say because the youtube bot aint all that great.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial yeah, honestly the good thing is that you're very clear with your words, problem is the words that arent in English, theyll probably get set to some other word. Also, i see you pay attention to the music/ost sometimes but ep 23 and 24 is where youll wanna listen a bit more closely to it especially during certain moments, it makes those scenes so much better.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Can you allow the community to subtitle the video or transcribe it? I remember that this is was a function a while ago, but I haven't seen it used much these days.
For people who have a Google account, there is an accessibility setting for live captioning which shows up in a separate box and it will automatically caption RUclips. The accuracy seems to be better too!
"We don't need the memories" also has a more pragmatic meaning, especially for athletes. Right before the twins' reverse minus quick, there was a line that said (not verbatim) that they had many yesterdays that have been converted into muscle. For sports people, hours and hours of practice over days, weeks, years solidify into intuition, which is a critical tool for athletes. There is no one practice or any one day where a skill suddenly manifests perfectly. Even the freak quick from season one didn't come together consistently in a day. Neither did Karasuno's synchro attack, Nishinoya's overhands and his setting, Tanaks's sharp angle shots, Asahi's serves, even Daichi's steady receiving. By the end of this episode, the Inarizaki motto really enhances Hinata's moment - who needs memories when the numerous practices and long days of hard work have all been ingrained into your physical muscles, into your brain and your mind? It culminates in a moment where all that work pays off to achieve that one thing you've been going towards. Thank you for the great video, Coach!
25:07 I know you don't really doubt Hinata becoming better but it's so funny that you said he was going to receive it with his face before he recieved it haha, it made the moment even better.
hinata's perfect receive here is not just some random luck. it's the result of his hardwork from being a ball boy in shiratorizawa so this scene makes me soOOO emotional and just so proud of him T___T
regarding inarizaki's banner, I always took it to mean both "we don't rest on the laurels of our past wins, tomorrow is a new day to evolve even further" and "we don't dwell on our past failures, tomorrow is a new day and another chance for victory and success"
38:21 "Hunger Is Contagious" is actually a title of the manga chapter including that particular scene of osamu's monologue and also the name of ost playing during that moment. Whenever you feel like Haikyuu can't get any better, it just does the very next moment it's so crazy.
I love that your knee-jerk reaction to Hinata’s moment was probably akin to everyone in the audience’s: oh he’s gonna get a lucky block again. It’s why his intentional dig was just glorious. You watch the explosive growth of this character in everyone else’s eyes.
Lol it's funny seeing you get mixed up on the twins, but definitely important to pay attention to. The hair colors and numbers help. At 12:30 they do the minus tempo quick with Osamu, opposite hitter and backup setter, setting to Atsumu the setter.
23:19 There's a better phrased quote in a manga called blue lock about football that goes something like "if you aren't prepared to take advantage of a coincidence and only reach out for luck when it's staring you in the face, it'll already be too late". A little long but there's actually a whole chapter explaining that named "luck" as well
When this episode was released back in 2020 I had already been following coach from the first episode and have been eagerly waiting for this very episode. I love that coach always gives genuine reactions so when he sounds excited he's ACTUALLY excited. This has probably been the most excited coach so far and I just can't wait for next week as well. Keep up the great reactions and insights you give coach.
12:20 the reason why everyone was shocked by that was because Atsumu switched to being the hitter and Osamu switched to being the setter and it still somehow worked. It's scary that both brothers can play as setters.
Especially because it’s established that it takes a pretty good setter to pull off the freak quick. Let me tell you, if I switched places with my shortstop without prior notice and they struck someone out in three pitches, I’d be pretty fuckin surprised
I feel like this must be the match with the most philosophical moments we've seen so far. Tanaka's thoughts on what it means to be average, Kita about the power of healthy habits and taking care of yourself, the 'who needs the memories', kageyama and hinata finding models to look up to, nishinoya on surpassing fear, tsukki about choosing the long term subtle gain (rather than the short term, visible success), the richness in having a constant rival (with the twins), even this discussion on luck. AND the volleyball story is so insane. Such a condensed part of the anime and by far my favourite match!
I agree, Coach. "We don't need the memories," is striving for greatness. Love it. Powerful emotional events, whether or bad or good, can distract us through either discouragement or contentment. Inarizaki doesn't care how badly they were beaten or how dominantly they won, they want to focus on winning each and every time in the future.
The "hungry" and "piton" analogys are specially relatable for me, because Haikyuu and Hinata really inspired me to try volleyball, and to try to feel the same sort of feeling that all characters feel when they do amazing things in volleyball, Hinata really make not just characters, put also people, feel hungry for volleyball. Rewatching this scene now, it was even more special, mainly because, recently, I've also had a "foothold" in volleyball, I was able to simple block a taller and older player on one of my first succesabel attempts to block. A week ago of this, I had hurted my finger trying to block him, but them, even scaried and inexperienced, I stopped him, I couldn't believe that, but it was my hard work that bringed me there. This moment was, and still is, very precious for me. That's why this show is so special and inspire so many people, I have to thank Furudate (manga's author) for creating Haikyuu. "By grabbing and connecting these rare moments, you're able to keep climbing higher and higher". (Sorry for any possible english erro, I'm a brazilian fan)
The Inarizaki banner really is my favorite because it has so many layers to what it means as the series gets deeper. At the start, it was meant to make the team seem cocky and overconfident, that they were playing for accolades, rather than the memories to look fondly back on, referencing how many lower level Japanese school teams participate in sports to create "childhood memories". Then it turns into a motto about playing and challenging themselves in the present to get better, referring to how Inarizaki is a team that hasn't finished growing either.
I love how your first reaction after seeing Hinata was that he was going to get hit in the face. Drawing back to previous episodes, I think that this is a much better example of exaggerated proportions (compared to Korai Hoshiumi, the other little giant) because it really drives home the fact that Hinata had full intention behind the receive, which is also shown by Noya's proud mother look compared to everybody else's pure shock. I also love how you got absolutely wrapped up in that rally. There are two national tournaments each academic year, the team that won nationals, in the interhigh (the nationals tournament that happened after Karasuno lost to Seijoh in the qualifiers - season 1) was Itachiyama, the team with the germaphobe (one of the top 3 aces in Japan) and the cockroach eyebrowed libero (the best libero in Japan) from the nationals training camp - I don't know if you remember but during the second set of this match the audience was talking about how Inarizaki had a six point lead in their last set and they still lost to Itachiyama (3:1), which I personally think then inspired the coach to start putting Kita in since he prolongs the flow that the ace creates; in other words this version of inarizaki is stronger than the version of Inarizaki that had a six point lead on the best team in Japan. This is also why they are said to be the favourites to win this tournament. I think it's amazing how stacked these teams are like with Inarizaki having the best setter who basically has a neural link with his twin brother (one of the most well rounded players in the show - who can also set a minus tempo, although it is not as accurate as Atsumu, they can use minus tempo for every single rally since there will always be at least one person who can set it), a middle blocker that can manipulate other middles and score points as if the block wasn't even there - he was also giving Tanaka a really hard time during the first set so he's a really good blocker too, a middle who is so experienced that he can compare other players to some of the best in the country (implying that he's played against said players) while shutting them down, a top five ace who coach Ukai said can compete with Ushiwaka on a good day, etc. and they're going blow for blow against a team who no one has heard of. This really goes to show just how good Karasuno really has become, they are literally a worthy challenge for the ultimate challengers! There are plenty of other stacked teams in this show and I can't wait to see them too :D Great reaction.
this is one of the very reason why i freaking love season 4 soo damn much even though the animation is not the same anymore. i admire hinata in these season on a whole personal level. even though hinata is on a discouraging situation plus with how people around him affects him, he still did not give up and opened himself an opportunity. him sneaking on the training camp is a silly yet brave move. he made sure that he learned something from it and he did it from starting at the bottom-being a ball boy. and now damn look at his progress. freaking beautiful!!!!! hinata is just so inspiring.
I always wanted to explain the inarizaki banner and was waiting for this episode and i am glad that coach got the meaning spot on " we dont care if we were the called best team in the entire world , we dont care that what we did yesterday worked or not, we are do our very best at that moment and give our all without any excuses and win. we dont need the memories of yesterday, we only care about whats in front us!" THATS WHY THEY ARE CALLED THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGERS.
I love the Hinata receive scene because (1) it is the culmination of my favorite arc, ballboy, and (2) it's extra special for our best mama, Suga. He was the first one to teach Hinata how to receive and every time Hinata makes an amazing receive shows that his efforts are not worthless.
if I remember correctly, "the Meal analogy" Osamu was talking about goes something like; If you eat a full set of Barbeque meat, you may not eat it for a few days, but for a Meal, you eat it everyday and never get tired of it. So basically Osamu is saying that Hinata is playing Volleyball like he is eating a everyday meal, and never gets tired of it.
I know this episode is about Hinata. But let's take some time to appreciate Akagi the Libero for Inarizaki. He's not focused on a lot but the digs he gets are amazing. 100% top 3 Libero in Haikyuu so far
I love the scene when Atsumu say they may be able to pull up the "skylove hurricane" after their quick set, it's such a wonderful easter egg reference to the Tachibana twins from Captain Tsubasa!
The part of influencing luck is really interesting, theres a newer sports anime called Blue Lock and they really explained it similar to how you said Coach. What a great parallel
A quick note: Kageyama and Atsumu are not nessicarily on the youth national team yet. That camp was meant to scout players FOR that team, but there was no confirmation that they made the team at any point.
11:05: this guy's name is Anabara; he's the coach of the high school team Jozenij (wild and free, party team). He had the idea to start the Miyagi prefecture "promising first year player" camp that Coach Washijo/Shiratorizawa hosted and that Hinata crashed. He trains players with lots of 2-on-2 scrimmages.
Hi, i like the idea of repositioning the subtitles. though I do think that having them in the middle of the screen looks a little messy. try moving them right under the show's screen. i think it'd be convenient for your viewers if the show's subtitles were directly under the visuals. keep it up with the great work!
I actually just had my piton moment the other day. I tore my ACL 2 years ago. After the surgery and during recovery I thought it was over for my athletic ambitions. During the height of the Pandemic, I got really into Kettlebell Training & Running. So much that my girlfriend actually bought me a Kettlebell Cert Test for my birthday. I trained as hard as I could for it, and became a coach. Almost a year after getting that cert, and around 7 months back in a gym, I went for a true 1 rep max on my deadlift the other day. Right before I pulled the bar I reflected back on all of the memories that brought me to that moment. How bad my knee hurt during rehab. Relearning how to walk. Rebuilding my squat. I remembered my girlfriend and how she supported me, and after a bit of a yell and a grind, I stood up with 605 pounds in my hands. I get chills when I think about it. Thanks for sharing your experience with Tall Ones coach. As a recently hired coach myself, it really struck a chord with me.
I do approve and appreciate that you accomodated closed captioning (translated or not) for other languages by the change in location of the anime subtitles.
I think the food analogy is kinda missed in translation. If I'm not wrong he means Hinata plays volleyball like eating rice. When you eat too much meat, no matter how good that is you gonna get bored and won't have it for awhile. But not with rice, no matter how much you eat it you won't get bored. You will change what you gonna eat your rice with, but not the rice itself. Which is very fitting for Japanese
The first time I saw Hinata's moment, I felt it, I truly did even if I didn't have a good comparison from my own experience. But seeing it now, after I have also played Volleyball and experienced it myself, it just takes off to a whole new level. Nothing makes me happier than getting a dig that leaves even me shocked- because my body reacted, even if my mind didn't process it until the ball was already going to position 3 **clenches fist** the feeling is indescribable. Because of this, Osamu's "If you have a bite when your starving, you just get hungrier" has never felt so spot on. It's the perfect way to put it. That's exactly the message your mind throws at you afterwards: "I have to make this happen again, and again, and again, and again".
I love how the show also shows that sometimes you're just lucky or unlucky. Its all about training hard and putting in your effort, but luck is also a major fact in the game of volleyball. Love the show!!!
Coach, all the people watching the game remotely were at the ball boy training camp with Hinata: Kageyama’s old teammates from Aoba Johsai, the Shiratorizawa first years, two-meter-tall Hyakuzawa, and Coach Anabara from Johzenji who initiated the two-on-two practice training. That coach was the one who had a funny moment when he bowed to Hinata in silent apology for thinking he was “empty”. It made me so happy to see them all watching Hinata; even Tsukki has that expression, seeing Hinata’s hard work bear fruit in this crucial moment.
You know what made this episode memorable to me? It's because when Osamu said Hinata was like eating a meal. Then remember that one time when Washijo Sensei said that they (short people) may not have superior physical height but they were given this insatiable hunger instead (Maybe to achieve more or to be better in spite of being short). Then there was Hinata going home from the Shiratorizawa training camp, riding a bicycle and yelling "I'm hungry!". Though it was a couple of episodes apart, for me, it connected so well and it's so poetic. Haikyuu be making me use my brain.
I think the banner is super poetic, in my view it reflects literally what coach said . - "if we keep holding onto yestarday, what are we going to be tomorrow?" with "We dont need the memories" and "Challange yourself today" all three together are so perfect because of the connection between not looking at past achievements(yesterday) and make the next good change, keep evolving with we don't need the memories and challange yourself today. Pure Haiku.
I remember reading something in some of those haikyuu highlights, specially in this Tanaka spike where the blocker calls him a "weaker Bokuto", and the perspective was that for Tanaka, being compared to a players as good as Bokuto, and who inspired him to learn new spikes, its not a insult, if he heard that he problaly would think its a compliment. Just shows how good Tanaka has become
i dont think its a case of Hinata making the team hungrier for victory, you can tell by what they were saying at the start of the time out that they all want to win. but Hinata's positive reaction i think reminded them part of why they play/want to win, that good laugh reset everyone and now they can push with a clear head again
I'm so proud of you for figuring out who was talking to Kageyama about swallowing their pride. It's funny to hear all of the possible theories you come up with during episodes.
ahhhh this is one of my favorite episodes of all time!! all of hinata's hard work finally pays off and he has his MOMENT 🤌🙏 also, after hinata got his dig, all of those freeze frames of the people watching in shock from their devices at home were of all the members of the training camp that hinata had crashed earlier this season! they were the ones who saw first hand how much hinata was studying/learning as the ball boy and now they get to see how he manifested everything he learned into a real game! they must be so proud of him, just like the rest of us :')
You're right about the banner. It's all about trying new things and not resting on your laurels. This is best exemplified by the twins, who are very competitive but also take the chance to imitate the freak quick because it's something new and exciting.
11:10 actually hes a coach from johzenji, takaaki anabara(a yellow tim with random attack in season 2) and yes hes a assisten coach and ex student from washijo (coach siratorizawa) in season 4
the quick that osamu does is special because he is not a setter he is the spiker. and yet he pulled off what kageyama and his genius brother do. that's why everyone is in such shock
It's hard to keep all of the metaphor and symbolism together when so much of the reader's attention should be directed to the sport, but there's a strong emphasis on food being absolutely critical in an athlete's journey throughout Haikyuu. This match with Inarizaki is the culmination of the arc set in motion when Karasuno lost to Aoba Johsai in season 2 where coach Ukai reminds the Karasuno team to "eat, and grow stronger". In much the same way as Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa was a battle of the concept of what defines "strength" in a competition, Karasuno vs Inarizaki is a battle of determining where that strength comes from. You can see Inarizaki's powerful motto in "We Don't Need the Memories", but it's tremendously important to remember that there's so much to learn from your past failures as well. The food we eat becomes the energy and the muscle to take on the next challenge, the memories of past games become the reaction speed to use those resources to face the next challenge. And then to come full circle to Hinata, the food metaphor is completed with the realization that the greatest and most important "hunger" is the love of the sport itself. That unambiguous pure drive and passion for the game is what makes Hinata stand out, and what makes Atsumu different from his twin brother Osamu.
The way I've already seen this episode for like, 4 times already, and knows what's gonna happen but I still squealed so much when Hinata did that receive! Never fail to give me goosebumps!
I've watch the whole anime for more than 6 times now but I still cry when I reach this specific episode. The build up for this moment literally starts from the first episode. So rewarding ahhh
one thing i wish they kept in the anime was the original translation for Osamu's food monologue. originally Osamu compared Hinata's love for volleyball to the asian love for rice. Despite how many times you eat hot rice throughout your life you never get sick of it. that analogy, as a korean person was a cultural aspect that resonated with me so well, so I was a bit sad when it was localized to "grub" or "barbaque" in other versions
My head canon is that when the team is laughing in that last timeout, Tsukki has a towel in front of his face because he doesn’t want people to see him laughing too.
I can't believe you're only two episodes away in finishing S4, Coach! It's been a journey rewatching (for me) all of Haikyuu with you. Can't wait to see your reaction to the last 2 episodes :))
When Osamu (Gray Hair twin) is talking about how Hinata looks like he in enjoying his food. I immediately understood what he meant. Its the feeling of enjoying the moment as it comes and results in encouraging your teammates to also want to have fun with you. You also tend to play better when youre having fun in the moment!
Coach! I think you didn't notice because of the excitement, but take a look at Hinata's arms after the receive, they're red because of Aran's intense kill. Love it when they add those details :)
I love 2 things about Hinata's receive, before when gin was about to spike it, right after Hinata served, you can see through his pov that he's watching the spiders position and stuff. He doesn't get a chance on that attack because tsukki stuffs gin. And the second time it works out better imo, because he saves it from Aran instead. And the second thing is, I love this moment so much because everything he did up til this match, from the shiratorizawa match, hasn't been for waste. When he may have questioned himelsf, from others
This match with Inarizaki is amazing. Aside from the spotty animation this match is by far my favorite of the series. Inarizaki is so damn good and far more talented than any of the previous teams Karasuno has played against.
"If we keep holding onto yesterday, what are we going to be tomorrow?" makes me think of the quote "never sacrifice what you could be for what you are"! No matter how great we were there are always new heights to push ourselves to! Season 4 was a bit of a hit-and-miss for me but this episode was one of my all time favorites from Haikyuu! When this originally came out was when I was going through a rough patch in my job, after years of hard work put in I still wasn't getting the results I wanted so Hinata's moment hit very close to home emotionaly. I kept going and things have been amazing for the past 10 months. Just gotta keep improving one bit at a time! Been looking forward to this reaction for a while coach, love the series! Cheers from Brazil!
At 12:30 the surprising thing is that the one who sets the ball is Osamu, who isn't the setter. The setter is Atsumu, the blonde one. They did the quick before, but with the setter setting, that's why the "reverse" part.
i still remember the first time i watched this ep: that feeling like i'm a proud momma to Hinata when he did that freakin receive, and that feeling of frustration when at the end of that very long rally, my crow babies lost that one point. to give me all of those emotions even now, this episode is just wonderful. i am just excited once again to watch your next vid reaction, Coach! thank you for all the hard work!
I like how haikyuu incorporates the concept of chekhov's gun wherein anything they add on will have meaning and purpose even though it will be later on in the series. Every emotional investment has a payoff and your emotions grow together with the characters.
You have to be a setter to understand the satisfaction you get when you set a perfect ball to a hitter. And the hitter gets a perfect kill! The best feeling ever!

Osamu like food more than volleyball. He's passionate about it. You'll know more in the future
As Nishinoya said, “What gets the crowd hyped up more than a super spike is…………………………………a super receive”
Truer words have never been spoken

Good ol Hinata

Your interpretation of Inarizaki's banner is absolutely right, coach. But another one that I get is that is very common in Japan for students to join a club during highschool just because it's part of their culture and student life, so when they grow up they have the memories of when they were young. So the banner "we don't need the memories" means that they are not playing volleyball for the memories when they grow old, but because they love it and wanna be the best.
表層的には青春の思い出造りに対するアンチテーゼである。
深層的には、革新と成長への飽くなき欲求の表明である。
多層的に意味を持つ、非常に格好良いダンマク。
私は大好きです。
That was my personal interpretation. I always hear join the club or try the activity. The experience of being there and the memories are worth it even if you don't win. I take it as, we aren't here for the memories. We are here to win.
I never thought of that! It's so cool that even after having finished this series, I can still find so many ways to interpret it.
I think a better translation, albeit not completely accurate, would be "we're not here to make memories" i.e. they're here to win
Up up up!!!

👏👏👏
Also idk if coach noticed the different cuts to the players from the miyagi training camp as they have witnessed hinata's ballboy work bearing fruit
Coach just needs to rewatch S4 the 1st part where Karasuno vs Date Tech had a practice game for him to know why Tanaka said that to Kageyama.
And also coach needs to know #5 jersey is Tanaka and #11 jersey is Tsukishima

The play where Osamu fakes into a set, the reaction shot we get from Atsumu(where he laughs) is the reason he is one of my favourite characters. It's rare in this show that we get to see the characters have that much fun in a game. They're always so concentrated on getting better or winning that they miss moments like that where something cool happens and you can't help but laugh at it. Not to say they aren't having fun in their own way. I know they are but I enjoy that Atsumu is so good that he can just enjoy the game as a game in those moments.
Also, nice changes on the subtitles! Accessibility is always a positive!
Being good means being free.
Also reminds me of Bokuto saying that you'll get to enjoy the game once you're good at it (if I remember well)

Our lil' ball of sunshine: "OKAY BUT... DID YOU GUYS SEE MY SUPER-DUPER-AWESOME RECEIVE????!!!!"
Seriously though, I remember literally getting misty-eyed with this moment, even before the Olympic coach had that internal monologue, because I instantly realized that this was the result of all the hard work, and even embarrassment, that Hinata had to go through in the beginning of season 4.
Bro I cry every time I watch this receive
@@khaleeqkusi3113 me too.
I just love them so much for believing in Shoyo. o)-(
Why am I crying 😭
That's the case with Hinata though, he's always a pleasent surprise. Even to Kageyama.
Watchin' coach thinking for 5 minutes "is it Tsukki or Tanaka?" with the player's number on his back at the center of the screen all the time makes me scream internally. :D
IKR
that made me helplessly chuckle, just thinking the whole time "COACH IT SAYS NUMBER 5 😭"
“Hinata is gonna get hit the face” oh the doubt that coach Donny saw in him 😂
We finally reach the moment where Hinata has grown so much! Haikyuu is such a deep story telling that we can all relate to. Next weeks episode is gonna be dialogue heavy so it would be great for you to pause at some moments to dive deep and analyze what they say!
Can't wait for his reaction for another incoming Hinata moment.
Love these coach ! Gets more depth in these last few episodes ! When the rewatch begins you’ll begin to realise just how in-depth the writers truly went in the story telling and character development, cant wait :) !
Glad you like them!
Up
Could you elaborate a bit on the excess energy? I think I know what you mean, but I'd like to know rather then guess.
Yea I think I realized that after the fact, which made sense why everyone was so blown away
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Yeah. It just goes to show how even the two actually are.

Thank you for the great video, Coach!
i love this!
YESSSSS I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! What a powerful moment, this is why Hinata is the GOAT!
Fancy seeing you here, fellow Haikyuu enjoyer :)
Hinata is definitely the goat.
A little long but there's actually a whole chapter explaining that named "luck" as well
I was thinking about commenting this too! Such a great way to explain it.

“I’m really good at guessing things incorrectly” might be the most relatable thing you’ve ever said 😂
12:20 the reason why everyone was shocked by that was because Atsumu switched to being the hitter and Osamu switched to being the setter and it still somehow worked.

Increase your chances of luck and taking advantage of it. In Japan there's a saying that basically says "Luck is also part of your skill"
I FEEL LIKE HINATA'S RECEIVE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART😭😭😭

Can't wait for coach to react to alright moment and also wanted the final match of Hinata and Kageyama to be animated.
Nothing gets you more excited by seeing other people gets excited for the thing you get excited for.
I’ve been waiting for this episode ever since you started reacting to Haikyuu!
Wow you’re very patient
You gotta love Hinatas pure love and joy for everything volleyball. He's never tired of it, and there's basically no aspect of the sport he dislikes.
season 4 despite lackluster animation is my fav season so far, so many memorable moments
There are plenty of other stacked teams in this show and I can't wait to see them too :D
Great reaction.

this is one of the very reason why i freaking love season 4 soo damn much even though the animation is not the same anymore. i admire hinata in these season on a whole personal level. even though hinata is on a discouraging situation plus with how people around him affects him, he still did not give up and opened himself an opportunity. him sneaking on the training camp is a silly yet brave move. he made sure that he learned something from it and he did it from starting at the bottom-being a ball boy. and now damn look at his progress. freaking beautiful!!!!! hinata is just so inspiring.
He was the first one to teach Hinata how to receive and every time Hinata makes an amazing receive shows that his efforts are not worthless.

if I remember correctly, "the Meal analogy" Osamu was talking about goes something like;
If you eat a full set of Barbeque meat, you may not eat it for a few days, but for a Meal, you eat it everyday and never get tired of it.
So basically Osamu is saying that Hinata is playing Volleyball like he is eating a everyday meal, and never gets tired of it.
"We don't need the memories" is by far my favorite banner in the series.
I know this episode is about Hinata. But let's take some time to appreciate Akagi the Libero for Inarizaki. He's not focused on a lot but the digs he gets are amazing. 100% top 3 Libero in Haikyuu so far

Super thoughtful adjustment. Also love the pose you chose for the thumbnail. LOL

This episode everytime never fails to make me cry. That smile on Hinata's face is everything.
Hi, i like the idea of repositioning the subtitles. though I do think that having them in the middle of the screen looks a little messy.

Hinata's receive is hands down my most favourite scene from Hailyuu (so far). I tear up every time I see it and even this time I got super emotional.
English is my first language, but I love that you're trying to be more inclusive of folks for whom it isn't
Pure Haiku.
I'm always impressed by how authors make the luck factor entertaining, instead of "nooo that's bs." A lot of thoughts must be put onto those moments.
Using the rotation instead of the number 5 XD Ah, Coach, please never change.
nah you violated with the crunching after halftime!!!!!
ahhhh this is one of my favorite episodes of all time!! all of hinata's hard work finally pays off and he has his MOMENT 🤌🙏 also, after hinata got his dig, all of those freeze frames of the people watching in shock from their devices at home were of all the members of the training camp that hinata had crashed earlier this season! they were the ones who saw first hand how much hinata was studying/learning as the ball boy and now they get to see how he manifested everything he learned into a real game! they must be so proud of him, just like the rest of us :')
This is what I am gonna say about Haikyuu... This would be the most philosophical teenagers ever lmao 😅 and i love it
Just seeing coach in complete silence and shock and admiration as Hinata received the spike of one of the Top 5 Aces in Japan is just everything
dear coach, this is my favourite season, i am so glad to see you are enjoying it as much as i do
When Osamu (Gray Hair twin) is talking about how Hinata looks like he in enjoying his food.
Having room for RUclips’s subtitles is a great idea! I personally don’t need them but I don’t mind the change at all.
Can we acknowledge how underrated inarizaki libero is
