lev was arguing that getting a stuff block is the coolest and best kind of blocking there is. tsukki responded by arguing that consistent blocking that doesn't necessarily go for the stuff, but rather to help the other players on his team (guiding the path of the ball, getting a soft block, etc), is better. in tsukki's opinion, going for the stuff is risky, whereas his style of blocking is persistent, consistent, and much better at getting a hand on it or guiding the path -- even if he doesn't get that stuff point, it converts to points down the line. (there's a bit of an unspoken emphasis on tsukki's style of blocking being very team-based, and blocking to "connect" with the other 5 players on the court, rather than lev's idealized one man army). and then kuroo pipes in to tease lev, calling him childish for wanting to block the "cool" way, and saying that the consistent style of blocking gets your team the last laugh, even though it's less flashy.
Exactly. This is the same nuance that they explained earlier between what they call "Read blocking" and "Guess Blocking". Tsukki simply follows the ball and never commits unless he is 100% sure, that is what Kuro taught him. Because of this, he is always slightly behind and will mostly do soft blocks. On the other hand what lev wants is what Tendou is doing. He wants to commit early by intuition to get a stuff block. But as tsukki said, Guess blocking is either 0% or 100%, while his style is morer of a constant 70%
Before starting season 4, you should do an updated version of your ideal team. Especially since we’ve met so many new characters in the last two seasons.
I noticed that too! I love that moment of sportsmanship. And then Ushijima aims for his bad hand XD. But it still lends to the sincerity of his character.
At 17:02 Oikawa said "Either one of them winning is going to piss me off, so they should both lose". Thats the reason why Iwa-chan called him "crappy guy" jajaja
Yeah the coach def talked a lot without pausing this time. He used to pause more frequently before making long comments. He also missed shiratorizawa coach’s thoughts about hinata and how he wants to deny him, which is the most important aspect of the character. Something tells me coach wanted to get through this episode faster (probably busy with other things) and wasnt as focused.
Tsuki's concentration in the infirmary, his attempted slide hit, the fact that he ran back to the game, and his overall persistent blocking even with a broken hand all show his great character development over the seasons
I like the insight that Kiyoko gives us on what Tsukishima was thinking while he was in the infirmary. Since she's introverted herself, she probably understands Tsukki's thought process more than anyone on Karasuno (except for maybe Yamaguchi).
Coach miss the shiratorizawa coach's Thought, that he want to deny hinata with all of his 40 years of coaching experience. He doesn't want to acknowledge hinata's strength as a small player. Because to him, if he acknowledge hinata's is like acknowledging that he give up to early as a player during his younger days. Being denied to play in the court just because of his physical appearance and height to the point he actually give up on playing and decided to be a coach instead. Seeing hinata, is a prove that he if he try harder to play he maybe have the chance. He doesn't want to admit it and want to deny hinata play style so badly.
Yeah, that's exactly it. Although I hope he realizes that Hinata only got this good because Karasuno actually gave him a chance, something he never got, so even if he hadn't gave up he would most likely still not be able to become a succesful player, cause I doubt any team from back in the day would give him that chance to play and get better. In the end he just chose a more realistic career that allowed him to still be associeted with volley.
Don't stress about doing double episodes Coach. When the series was airing, we all had to wait a week to see what would happen. It's good to have some suspense.
I don't know how I've never noticed before, but Ushijima actually raises his hand like "My bad" or "Sorry" when Tsukishima gets back on the court at 8:45
Tsukki saying “Thanks for your honesty” was kinda sarcastic (as always lol), he had asked Hinata to buy some time for him while he got his finger taped, but Hinata confessed that Yamaguchi actually got a lot more time than him
@@raywa5821 Actually, he said 「正直に、どうも」, & "doumo" stands for the "thanks" part (it's a short way of saying 「どうも、ありがとう」& has a more "thanks for the trouble" ring than a formal "Thank you very much").
I really like the analogy Oikawa uses. He calls Shiratorizawa old and dependable because they use a tried and true method of gathering strong, dependable players, and making them even stronger to crush opponents by force. on the other hand, he calls Karasuno new and reckless because, since their fall from being a powerhouse school, they've had no unique style. They have been constantly learning and trying new techniques and tactics throughout the season and are using all of their ticks recklessly to get the W. It really is a clash of 2 completely different ideologies.
Karasuno could even go back to where they were great at which was using Little Giant in their offence. But instead of just depending only on Hinata, the rest of the team, even the bench players, stepped their games way up making the new Karusuno a lot more stronger. This team is one of a kind. It is a shonen team lol (in a subtle way)
Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa is the true volleyball philosophy battle-- dependable physicality and power versus novel and spontaneous play. I feel like the only other match with a clear concept clash is the upcoming Nationals Karasuno versus Nekoma.
I'm glad that in the recent episodes, you've stopped to go back and rewatch scenes...either because you didn't understand them or because they were so great you had to see them again. Those of us who are watching you watch have seen the scenes multiple times. So we don't mind you stopping and rewinding. Quite the contrary. It's much more frustrating when you talk over a scene and then don't understand what's going on, especially if it's a scene or a line that we've been waiting and waiting for you to get to. PS. I'm with you on the songs; my fave is "Tobe! Fly!"
@@raythetiger7701 I don’t think you got OP’s comment, he’s saying he loves when Coach Donny takes the time to go back and understand a scene better or rewatch an awesome moment. He supports Coach Donny’s decision.
Been waiting all week for this lets GO When Ushijima agreed about only throwing balls to him him while he's useful, it's the ultimate reinforcement of both his humility and his strength. He's humble enough to admit that, if he's too exhausted, Shirabu should stop tossing to him - then immediately stands up to say he's not at that point yet. It's why he's such a great antagonist in a nutshell. He mirrors Hinata in the fact that he never allows success or pride to devolve into hubris or complacency
Agree but Hinata's arrogance challenging Ushijima still rubs me the wrong way. Hinata's confidence comes from a very pure place, but his challenge always gave me conceited vibes
@@ghost_noodle8298 I think Hinata’s challenge wasn’t in a manner of standing up against Ushijima or disrespecting him, or even blindly thinking that he is anywhere near as good, as much as it being a rejection to the disrespectful remark that Ushijima made about the “infertile soil” when addressing Seijou.
I really understand what you mean and that entire dialogue really made me like ushijima more and more ❤️❤️ eventually people will come hating saying he was disrespectful to hinata but do those people really understand haikyuu then ?
@@osha_t4 Hinata literally says to Ushijima "I'm Hinata from the concrete and I'm going to beat you and go to nationals". Ushijima is literally on the U19 National Team, Hinata is a benchwarmer without Kageyama. If that isn't arrogance I don't know what is. I get that when Hinata said this, Ushijima was talking bad about Seijoh (I know that Ushijima's intention isn't to be rude, it's just what he believes), but that would be like me going to my weightlifter friend who was literally at the u19 tokyo olympics this year and saying "I'm ghost_noodle from the concrete, I'm going to squat more than you at the olympics". (A few issues with the analogy but the point still stands)
incase you didnt notice as Tsukki was walking in to the court Ushijima did a little "my bad" hand symbol. Really goes to show how much of a competitor he is to not only not be looking to hurt anyone but actively apologizes if it happens inadvertently.
I equally love Tobe Fly and Hikariare. Hikariare fits the finale vibe like "we're finally here there's no turning back". It's grand, always gives me goosebumps. I really suggest you listen to Hikariare moonlight version, it's so emotional and really good! :)
I like the music for Fly High (Tobe Fly) more, but the visual symbolism in Hikare Are is just so good. That thunderclap with the image of a murder of crows against the great white eagle of Shiratorizawa. The quality of the animations showing off each member of Karasuno's individual strengths. The fact that the chant of "Hikari Are" translates to "let there be light," combined with the visuals of light spreading across the court in a storm of crow feathers as Karasuno steps onto it. I'm a sucker for drama, will admit, but it's so good.
The "you always have the last laugh" flashback with Kuroo to Tsukki is in reference to calling out the one-touch. After a full three touches from the other team, after all their effort, they're greeted with someone basically saying "I saw what you planned and got ahead of it haha."
15:35 can we talk about this single frame? I love Tsuki takes almost 2/3 of the whole shot at this stretchy diagonal angle. It carries a lot of motion, power and directionality and directs the eye to a part of the screen that flows into the next frame all with just a couple of straight lines, which I think is a pretty masterful animation. I could easily imagine this frame is examine in classrooms.
I know tsuki gets alot of deserved love this episodes, but shout out to Tanaka who is always there when the team needs it, always ready to spike the balls everyone is afraid to, alot of the important spikes that dont involve hinata usually are done by tanaka, he just has such unwavering confidence, i love him
I love "Fly High" but I truly love "Hikari Are" so much more, especially with the symbolism in the opening. "Let there be light" and the mountain they have to climb that turns into an eagle then into Ushijima, then later the ball slamming into the court and all the crows taking off into the air in a spotlight. Gives me chills
same!!! i know fly high is the fandom fave but when i heard hikari are the first time with the intro cinematics i think i teared up?? 😂 the symbolism!!! the way they're all drawn as though they're under stage lighting for center court... ahhh the intro is just so so good
Totally agree. The animation symbolism to go with the song is already amazing, but even musically, the ascending scale with the mute-riffed guitar in the beginning leading into the epic chorus-line with a descending scale already accents the mountain motif and never fails to give me chills. Tobe Fly is good, but I think the combination of symbolism, animation, musicality, and obviously the storyline of the season associated with Hikari Are makes it much more memorable and impactful for me
Mad agree. The lyrics are so impactful. "Let there be light. Believe it is within your grasp and run headlong into the darkness in front of you." Combined with the heavily shadowed animation and the bursts of light with each impact of the ball, it gives me chills too!
Post Credit/Non-related Preview Dialogue: Kageyama: "Hey, stop making your knees shake." Hinata: "They're doing that on their own, so I don't have a choice! You jerk!" Kageyama: (*hits Hinata*) "You understand that since we came this far-" Hinata: "-We can't let them take this chance!"
In the context of high school volleyball, where the 3rd years graduate each year and new people joined each year, which do you prefer coach : - Sticking to a concept / philosophy no matter the personnel(like Shiratorizawa) - Using the best available tactic each year (like Karasuno) Coincidentally, this was the theme of the episode 5 between coach eyebrow and grandpa ukai
That Nishinoya double dig is my second favorite play in the entire series. Love your reactions Coach. This anime and you reacting to it has inspired me to pick up playing sports again and I hope to add volleyball to that in the near future. Can't wait for next week!
This intro is the best one to me, but the same group "Burnout Syndromes" sings both intros, Hikariare and Fly. I think they do one in the next season as well.
Firstly, it is SO refreshing to have a genuine technical review of haikyuu. Thank you. More importantly, I have seen this episode a billion times cause tsuki is my boy. But when you came in with the tsuki soundtrack.. I cried so hard. That’s the love tsuki deserves!!! Thank you for expressing it so perfectly!!! 😭😭😭 “Triple block. Cause Tsuki said so.” 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
At 18:20, Shirabu (the setter who approaches Ushijima during the timeout) questions the promise referenced earlier (9:37) in the episode in regards to when using Ushijima only applies when he's still useful. The phrasing 'mercilessly use me' implies that Ushijima is willing to push past his stamina to crush the ball. However, Shirabu understands that even Ushijima has limits and depending on him so much would decrease his effectiveness (predictability and Ushijimas stamina). Of course because Ushijima is the shining ace of Shiratorizawa, this question that Shirabu asks is viewed as a challenge to Ushijimas skill. Ushijima's "That's right" assures Shirabu that he should set him when he himself believes Ushijima is useful, shocking the rest of the teammates. Not only is Ushijima an extremely phenomenal player, he understands that he himself has limits and knows that sometimes he ISNT the win condition. This confirmation from Ushijima himself opens up Shirabu to using other hitters as opposed to giving the ball to Ushijima three times in a row. He understands that no matter how talented he is, there are times to use him and times to not use him.
Ushijima is such a good guy, he puts respect where respect is earned and he acknowledges good players He even apologized to Tsuki when he came back to the court (8:46). He may be blunt which someone comes off as being a jerk when he's just being honest. Which is why I don't understand why most reaction channels call him an a**hole.
To get motivated: tobe fly To stay motivated: hikari are To cool down: hikari are moonlight version. Have you had the time to listen to english covers of these songs? It could give you a bit more insight on why these two songs are the top two faves of haikyuu fans.
1:26 that made me remember about Coach Ukai’s VA passing away. It was such a moment that nobody knew that it was gonna be his last line and the saying “looking up” felt more than just volleyball. Also, that must have been so hard for the VAs and the staff that have to work despite the loss of their team...
Although I agree it would’ve been a better idea, most people who watched the episodes through the weekly release couldn’t watch those episodes back to back and still got to enjoy them, and I’m sure Coach Donny will have a pleasant experience nonetheless! If anything, I’m glad he didn’t force himself to watch and edit 2 episodes if that was going to difficult to edit and release on the usual time.
@@zenith3803 yeah I understand and I respect it. Either way is fine. For me personally though I watched season 3 while it was airing and I purposely skipped 9 and waited the extra week to watch them both together since I was used to haikyuu doing the cliffhanger 2nd to last episode thing in both season 1 and season 2. But like I said it's fine. I've been watching haikyuu with coach Donny since he dropped episode 1. I didn't mean any hate
No matter how many times I've watched this season, no matter how many reactions I've witnessed; I can still get excited by these episodes. I can't help but scream and squirm wondering "omg, what's gonna happen now?" Even though I already know the outcome haha xd
8:47 A lot of people tend to miss it and I just wanted to point it out. Ushijima raises his hand to Tsukki to say sorry for hurting him and Tsukki bows slightly to acknowledge his apology. Really goes to show how polite Ushijima is and that he doesn't want to hurt the opposing teams
Title: The Volleyball Idiots I believe in this episode was referring to both Ushijima and Tsukishima. This episode showed Tsukushima's transition to a player who wants to play even during injury and we were also shown by Shiratorizawa's teammate that they always found Ushijima to be a 'volleyball idiot' as he is performing and trying his best even when exhausted, basically both of them develops/ed love for volleyball similar to Hinata and Kageyama
You're doing the same thing with us Coach! You're making re-watching haikyuu more enjoyable, more informative and more relatable because of your explanation about animation, techniques and life lessons. Thank you.
Pretty sure Ushijima was just acknowledging that he's getting tired. He's a big guy and he's hit the most by far on both teams. So he was saying "use me while you can".
I'm obsessed with the season 3 opening hahaha. If you like the other opening, the band behind the song (Burnout Syndromes) has another acoustic version of this song and the other song. Its called "hikarieare: Moonlight version" and "tobe fly: spring version" they're both great!
I really like the detail at 12:02 where Hinata jumps a little reacting to Tendo, showing that with all the pressure of the match, it'd be really easy to fall for a decoy, but Tsukishima still keeps his cool and waits patiently for the block, he really turned the tide of the match
I just noticed a small detail on how Tendou managed to tell how Tsuki was faking it. It was because Tsuki plans to hit with his right and it's currently injured.
In that flashback, Lev wanted to stuff block to score points immediately, Tsukki responded that he hates letting attacks through even more than he likes stuffing. Implying he just wants to make sure he keeps the ball alive above all.
This opening is honestly my favorite for visuals, music, and what it represents for this season. This is there big and final match to get to nationals, everyone eyes are on them. The musics high energy suits this whole season and I feel the lyrics reinforces what the mentality of karasuno. I think it just work and just gets me hype each time I watch or listen to it (ok gushing over)
17:40 coach says right here that you need a really good setter to run this style of offense. People be sleeping on Suga cause of how amazing Kageyama is. He isn't as precise and can't make full use of Hinata, but he can still run this offense really effectively.
coach! im not sure you've been told about this yet but during the ending song they will be playing in-story scenes instead of the usual ending scenes so you might want to watch it (maybe mute the video to avoid copy right) then as usual there will be post credit scene as well. im so hyped for the next episode's reaction!!!
Me as a 16 year old living in an area where guys volleyball is very rare to find, wish I could have someone like coach Donny in my life. He seems like such a great guy and coach. I hope all the teams he's taught treated him well!
This season's OP is my favorite because I get chills every time I see that insurmountable mountain turn into a freakin' giant bird of prey. The beginning of the song with the slow rise feels so powerful to me because it sounds like they are climbing that mountain.
Finally!! someone notices that Tsukishima dislocated his finger, most people gloss it over but it´s actually very serious. And kind of cool that Ushijima kind of apologized to Tsukishima.
I might be alone on this but this intro song is my personal favorite. I came to love it even more when I listened it with the translation and understood what it said. I highly recommend listening to the all the intro and outro songs (openings and endings) with their translations. There are several videos with translations on RUclips. Anyway, this song is at least Top 3 along with the first intro and outro of season 4
Tsukishima and Nishinoya are the heroes of this match for Karasuno. They may not have the perfect defense like Dateko, but they still have enough to break the strongest team of the prefecture.
Naaah, this one is the best intro! It simply keeps building up and then bursts! Plus, animation is simply great as it shows what it is to go against Shiratorizawa. How they needed to climb above other teams(Aoba Johsai) thinking they were at the summit, only to realize Ushijima is an even bigger mountain
Fun fact: this topic that you bring up, about only training the things that you are good at because it makes you feel good, is something that is shown in season 4. I'm not gonna spoiler who is it, but it is cool to see more of this realism in Haikyuu.
Whenever I see people ranking Haikyuu openings, usually Hikariare and Fly High are at the top along with Imagination. However I have to throw some love to Toppako and Phoenix (4th season's ops). Such underrated ops overshadowed by season 4th's mixed reviews due to the animation inconsistencies.
I agree!! I love Hikariare and Fly High, but out of those two I’d pick Fly High. I also LOVE Pheonix and I honestly can’t choose between that and Fly High! Pheonix is sooooo good. But Fly High is classic. And Hikariare has that vibe of like “okay here we go, here’s the uphill climb”. Initially, I didn’t like Toppako, it was just so different from Pheonix, but it’s grown on me a bit. I like how it’s a throwback to the first season style, and paired with the visuals it’s kinda like “remember where we started? Look how far we’ve come!” In conclusion, Haikyuu just has really good songs 😁
I fell in love with Phoenix right away, I wish it got more love from the fans too. I think the ending songs are criminally underrated though! My favorite is Climber by Galileo Galilei, reading the lyrics made me so emotional, it goes well with season 2's training arc storyline
imo, another way to look at what kuroo said is that read blockers don't really make flashy plays. They are persistent in blocking spikers and restrain themselves in making stuffed blocks, so the ball" connects" the play. That persistence prolongs the rally, and the pressure on the spiker builds up as the match porgresses. Just when you think you're gonna get a spike in, you get one touched. That's why it's the last laugh, that feeling when you successfully stop/slow a ball that the spiker was sure he could finish.
It is such a powerful moment in both this episode, and the series in general when you realize that both teams have no timeouts, and there are no more technical timeouts so then next time the teams step off the court will be when a winner is decided.
21:54 I like Coach's comment on Ushijima hanging in the air longer: "Wilfredo Leon from Polish National Team." IS THIS WHAT I THINK IT IS [Spoiler] - - - - - - - The first thing I had in mind was post timeskip Canon of Ushijima being in a Polish Team (Orzel Warsaw)
Not sure if you noticed but during Time Out Yamaguchi asks Nishinoya if he's tired and he says he's fine. We are constantly reminded throughout the episode that everyone else is tired but we never see Nishinoya until that double dig. I just love these details.
I really like how Karasuno's expression change when Noya said "Karasuno can depend on me". You can see the relief in their faces knowing Noya has their backs.
10:04 is Asahi’s line. Basically he says no one’s looking this way (=preparing for the next attack) means no one’s doubt that Asahi might fail the serve. That’s why he is reassured by trust from his team members.
Washijo is one of my fave Haikyu characters, we see more later but what we do explore in this match makes him a perfect antagonist for Hinata. Hinata is everything he was denied to be, and with his performance he is challenging everything he's believed through his 40 year volleyball career. It might be pretty and childish, but also it's understandable, so I love that moment where the player he gave a chance to (Tendo) stopped Hinata "i want to deny you number 10" 🔥
Really glad that you include clips of your players along with the reaction. This just proves that you're really enjoying reacting/watching Haikyuu so much. Kudos coach! Btw, those digs from your player are sick! Especially the pancake one!
Tsuki isnt doubting himself cuz it hurts. but in previous episodes, Yamaguchi and/or Hinata have mentioned that Tsuki hates losing. but he never got pumped to play or tire himself out in a match. except for this match where he had his moment that got him hooked on volleyball. He thinks of Hinata as a simpleton and now he wants to play to the end as if he were Hinata
this nishinoya save is legendary, trully the guardian deity of karasuno. and god does tsukki play like a monster this set. This is such a good episode.
I can't wait to see your thoughts on the next episode. There is one particular segment where I absolutely love the combination of artwork and musical composition, and I'm looking forward to seeing if it catches your attention in the same way it catches mine. I'm sure you'll know it when you get there.
Great reaction coach.. this match gives me goosebumps! I didn’t like the new opening as much at first but now I sing it at the top of my lungs every single time. It says a lot about season 3 About what you said, I actually think that TAnaka is the glue that holds together the team. Season 4 confirmed that for me 😉
Thanks for the great episode Coach! And that last portion about your coaching team libero, I can sense her fighting spirit from every pass she made in that short clip! Kudos to her! 😁😁😁
!!!!! I was so busy today that I almost forgot about this!! I’m frckn CRYING we’re so close to the end!! AND this is one of my favorite episodes, bcz I relate to so much to everyone this ep. I do fencing, and my stamina’s never been that great, so by the midpoint of tournaments I’m always in a lot of pain. I actually had a tournament last week where I had to fence two events back to back because they were both smaller pools than all of the rest, and I was barely standing by the end of it. WTH, this was not the intended direction of this comment. Anyway, thank you so much for posting, and all of your inspiring words, Coach!!! I love your videos, they’re always one of the highlights of my week! Also, I agree with you 100%, ‘Fly High!’ (Tobe! Fly!) is the best Haikyuu theme song, but ‘Hikari Are’ (this song), is probably a very close second for me.
And Coach, remember, if you have any time, to buy/read the manga! It was made by someone that played volleyball, which is where all it’s realism comes from
Good luck with the editor stuff, as much as I understood people's desire for a double episode reaction, anything is better than nothing. Great reaction.
Soooo hype! Its really cool how you set boundaries with your audience. I always struggle keeping boundaries and say yes to too many things. I hope you really enjoy the last episode next week!
Loved the reaction as always, Coach! Don't be afraid to pause the video more often if you have something to say (although I imagine that makes the video harder to edit every time you pause, so I understand why you might not want to). I think sometimes you're finishing a thought from an earlier scene and accidentally talk over and miss the dialogue from the next scene -- the part where Iwaizumi calls Oikawa a "crappy guy," for example.
lev was arguing that getting a stuff block is the coolest and best kind of blocking there is. tsukki responded by arguing that consistent blocking that doesn't necessarily go for the stuff, but rather to help the other players on his team (guiding the path of the ball, getting a soft block, etc), is better. in tsukki's opinion, going for the stuff is risky, whereas his style of blocking is persistent, consistent, and much better at getting a hand on it or guiding the path -- even if he doesn't get that stuff point, it converts to points down the line.
Up!
Excellent analysis, couldn't have said it better myself!
@@VictouffeVideos ahhh perfectly put, thank you so much!! 💖💖💖 i kept debating whether to edit and add that in so thank you, seriously, haha.

Before starting season 4, you should do an updated version of your ideal team. Especially since we’ve met so many new characters in the last two seasons.
Yes for this!
I second this.
i totally agree
yaas
Yes!!!
I’m not sure if you noticed but I thought it was so funny Ushijima kinda apologized to Tsuki after he came in
I noticed that too! I love that moment of sportsmanship. And then Ushijima aims for his bad hand XD. But it still lends to the sincerity of his character.
I've seen this episode so many times through a lot of reaction channels and this is the first time I've noticed that thanks to you.
Pure sportsmanship
WAIT WHAT when?!
ohhh so thats why he raises his hand. never quite understood why he did that until now
At 17:02 Oikawa said "Either one of them winning is going to piss me off, so they should both lose".
Something tells me coach wanted to get through this episode faster (probably busy with other things) and wasnt as focused.
one of my fav iwaoi parts in the series tbh HAHA
Oikawa lol love him being sour
in german he say ''you are an asshole'' xD
Tsuki's concentration in the infirmary, his attempted slide hit, the fact that he ran back to the game, and his overall persistent blocking even with a broken hand all show his great character development over the seasons
#ClutchTsuki #Clutchinoya
That's so true. I agree with everything that you said. Tsukki is my favorite character ever and he has the best character development ever.
Jammed fingers*
I like the insight that Kiyoko gives us on what Tsukishima was thinking while he was in the infirmary. Since she's introverted herself, she probably understands Tsukki's thought process more than anyone on Karasuno (except for maybe Yamaguchi).
But I mean Yamaguchi Isn’t the most extrovert.I guess you point that introvert understand each and other is still on point
He doesn't want to admit it and want to deny hinata play style so badly.
coach should read this
Yeah, that's exactly it.

Ya know, thats what I was thinking too when he was talking in the beginning
This !
Episode 10 is gonna be LIT!
I don't know how I've never noticed before, but Ushijima actually raises his hand like "My bad" or "Sorry" when Tsukishima gets back on the court at 8:45
Yeah, it's nice characterisation. Even if he's pretty stoic, he's a good sport.
lmao i always saw that as just him touching the net cause that's what I do when I'm up front before the serve starts. cool observation!
In the manga there's actually a panel that shows this too, Ushijima raising his hand and Tsukishima noticing and nodding.
Tsukki saying “Thanks for your honesty” was kinda sarcastic (as always lol), he had asked Hinata to buy some time for him while he got his finger taped, but Hinata confessed that Yamaguchi actually got a lot more time than him
I love that interaction is so cute 💖
yeah, and in japanese he just says しょうじき, there’s not “thanks” whatsoever, just like “you’re honest with me, huh?”
It is a shonen team lol (in a subtle way)
A battle of concepts, one could say.
Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa is the true volleyball philosophy battle-- dependable physicality and power versus novel and spontaneous play. I feel like the only other match with a clear concept clash is the upcoming Nationals Karasuno versus Nekoma.
@@Fleetw00d came to say this 😄
I'm glad that in the recent episodes, you've stopped to go back and rewatch scenes...either because you didn't understand them or because they were so great you had to see them again. Fly!"
Yup this is truue
but....if you dont want someone to react to something properly why watch his reaction video?
@@raythetiger7701 I don’t think you got OP’s comment, he’s saying he loves when Coach Donny takes the time to go back and understand a scene better or rewatch an awesome moment. He supports Coach Donny’s decision.
Been waiting all week for this lets GO
When Ushijima agreed about only throwing balls to him him while he's useful, it's the ultimate reinforcement of both his humility and his strength.
@@ghost_noodle8298 how is hinata arrogant for challenging ushijima? They didn’t cheat their way into the bracket, they got there through hard work.
I think I like Hikariare more, both for the feeling it gives and the art/animation 😁❤
Hikariare is my favorite of all of the OPs!!
I actually felt the same as Coach the first time I watched it, but over time Hikari Are has really grown on me and now I prefer it for sure.
The "you always have the last laugh" flashback with Kuroo to Tsukki is in reference to calling out the one-touch. After a full three touches from the other team, after all their effort, they're greeted with someone basically saying "I saw what you planned and got ahead of it haha."
8:44 ushiwaka’s apology to tsukki is so subtle
15:35 can we talk about this single frame? I love Tsuki takes almost 2/3 of the whole shot at this stretchy diagonal angle. It carries a lot of motion, power and directionality and directs the eye to a part of the screen that flows into the next frame all with just a couple of straight lines, which I think is a pretty masterful animation. I could easily imagine this frame is examine in classrooms.
Something you might have missed at 8:45 was Ushijima apologizing to Tsukishima, (and Tsuki bowing to acknowledge the apology).
Woah, i never noticed that! That darn ushijima, he really is a good guy who is just a volleyball idiot. I LOVE good sportsmanship!!!!
I know tsuki gets alot of deserved love this episodes, but shout out to Tanaka who is always there when the team needs it, always ready to spike the balls everyone is afraid to, alot of the important spikes that dont involve hinata usually are done by tanaka, he just has such unwavering confidence, i love him

his cut shot in s4 is easily one of my top moments. especially with everything leading up to it
I love "Fly High" but I truly love "Hikari Are" so much more, especially with the symbolism in the opening.
Post Credit/Non-related Preview Dialogue:
Kageyama: "Hey, stop making your knees shake."
Hinata: "They're doing that on their own, so I don't have a choice! You jerk!"
Kageyama: (*hits Hinata*) "You understand that since we came this far-"
Hinata: "-We can't let them take this chance!"
Remember how Tsukki used to ignore him when they changed?
Look at them high-fiving each other 🌟😭🌟26:54
In the context of high school volleyball, where the 3rd years graduate each year and new people joined each year, which do you prefer coach :
- Sticking to a concept / philosophy no matter the personnel(like Shiratorizawa)
- Using the best available tactic each year (like Karasuno)
Coincidentally, this was the theme of the episode 5 between coach eyebrow and grandpa ukai
I love how, when Tsukki first steps onto the court, Ushijima waves to him as if to say that he's glad to see he's okay
I have never noticed that.
“Triple block. Cause Tsuki said so.”
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
This ❤️❤️
Ushijima is such a good guy, he puts respect where respect is earned and he acknowledges good players He even apologized to Tsuki when he came back to the court (8:46). He may be blunt which someone comes off as being a jerk when he's just being honest. Which is why I don't understand why most reaction channels call him an a**hole.
To get motivated: tobe fly
To stay motivated: hikari are
To cool down: hikari are moonlight version.
Have you had the time to listen to english covers of these songs? It could give you a bit more insight on why these two songs are the top two faves of haikyuu fans.
"Tsukki thanked somebody for something?!" had me rolling
The double save by Nishinoya is one of my favourite scenes this season. Such an epic moment 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
1:26 that made me remember about Coach Ukai’s VA passing away. It was such a moment that nobody knew that it was gonna be his last line and the saying “looking up” felt more than just volleyball.
Also, that must have been so hard for the VAs and the staff that have to work despite the loss of their team...
i love how at 23:47, when Satori reads Hinata's spike, Ushijima is celebrating with the team. It's a rare moment of expression from him.
Kinda sad it wasn't a double episode since the hype builds up to the max this episode but still great video coach! See you next week
Coach Donny maybe reacted to them in 1 sitting but split them off into 2 videos
@@zenith3803 yeah I understand and I respect it. Either way is fine. For me personally though I watched season 3 while it was airing and I purposely skipped 9 and waited the extra week to watch them both together since I was used to haikyuu doing the cliffhanger 2nd to last episode thing in both season 1 and season 2. But like I said it's fine. I've been watching haikyuu with coach Donny since he dropped episode 1. I didn't mean any hate
@@brandoncoolgamer8522 that would be cool if he did do that 👆
Its fine
No matter how many times I've watched this season, no matter how many reactions I've witnessed; I can still get excited by these episodes. I can't help but scream and squirm wondering "omg, what's gonna happen now?" Even though I already know the outcome haha xd
OMG same especially the setter dumps. I know it's coming but it always gets me off guard since I'm too caught up with the synchro plays LOL
It’s all about the good story telling
Yes
I love the meaning/message of the song, Hikariare. The music video makes me emotional whenever I watch it. 🔥
I like Tobe Fly, too, by the way. 🧡
“Fly” is most fans’ favorite intro song. It goes hard.
I just noticed a small detail on how Tendou managed to tell how Tsuki was faking it. It was because Tsuki plans to hit with his right and it's currently injured.
Wow it didn't hit me until now!
I don't think it matters, he's right handed so he'll hit with his right. He did his serve with the injured hand too.
At 8:45, did wakatoshi gestured an apology and tsukki nodded as its ok? That’s some sportmanship from wakatoshi
coach! im not sure you've been told about this yet but during the ending song they will be playing in-story scenes instead of the usual ending scenes so you might want to watch it (maybe mute the video to avoid copy right) then as usual there will be post credit scene as well. im so hyped for the next episode's reaction!!!
Us: tell Coach Donny to make sure to watch to the end on certain episodes
Coach Donny, 23:54: "I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move"
I really hope that your players are watching this. They'd be in tears seeing how proud you are.
Judging by the comments, good sire , you are not alone in your opinion
Tsukishima and Nishinoya are the heroes of this match for Karasuno.
They may not have the perfect defense like Dateko, but they still have enough to break the strongest team of the prefecture.
i'm glad coach finally witness nishinoya's double save cause it is definitely one of haikyuu's iconic play in the list!!
Cmon! The double save Nishinoya did was epic. Im still having goosebumps whenever i see it
Heart of the team. That and the kick save are top three for me.
Look how far we’ve come!”
In conclusion, Haikyuu just has really good songs 😁
I fell in love with Phoenix right away, I wish it got more love from the fans too. I think the ending songs are criminally underrated though! My favorite is Climber by Galileo Galilei, reading the lyrics made me so emotional, it goes well with season 2's training arc storyline
When i heard "Super Volleyball idiot" for the first time, it reminded me of Coach Donny
Bit of a shame that you couldn't do a double episode, but totally get that you just didn't have time for it. Can't wait for the next episode.
I actually do like the 3rd season opening. I’m not too sure why, but it gives me the feeling to dare to achieve greatness.
Tsuki's kill against Ushiwaka and Nishinoya's double dig are one of my favorites moments in this season.
imo, another way to look at what kuroo said is that read blockers don't really make flashy plays. They are persistent in blocking spikers and restrain themselves in making stuffed blocks, so the ball" connects" the play. That persistence prolongs the rally, and the pressure on the spiker builds up as the match porgresses. Just when you think you're gonna get a spike in, you get one touched. That's why it's the last laugh, that feeling when you successfully stop/slow a ball that the spiker was sure he could finish.
the editing at the end so the cards show up when nishinoya receives it was heat
It is such a powerful moment in both this episode, and the series in general when you realize that both teams have no timeouts, and there are no more technical timeouts so then next time the teams step off the court will be when a winner is decided.
21:54 I like Coach's comment on Ushijima hanging in the air longer: "Wilfredo Leon from Polish National Team."

Noya's double receive is one of my favorite moments in Haikyuu
Best Opening is next season
" Ima orenji no hikari no naka e " is a hype inducing line
Really glad that you include clips of your players along with the reaction. This just proves that you're really enjoying reacting/watching Haikyuu so much. Kudos coach!
Btw, those digs from your player are sick! Especially the pancake one!
Ohhh Ushijima waved at Tsukki at 8:45 to apologize for messing up Tsukkis hand. I didn't catch that until right now.
It says a lot about season 3
About what you said, I actually think that TAnaka is the glue that holds together the team. Season 4 confirmed that for me 😉
I always sing that high note if anything
I love watching a coach reacting to a coach coaching a volleyball team.
Coachception, love from the Philippines ❤️
Tsuki is the definition of character development
And Coach, remember, if you have any time, to buy/read the manga! It was made by someone that played volleyball, which is where all it’s realism comes from
Ok, but can we talk about Nishinoya's save? He's so fricking good
Good luck with the editor stuff, as much as I understood people's desire for a double episode reaction, anything is better than nothing. Great reaction.
I like Ushijima even more now because when Tsukki entered the court he apologized by raising his hand.
I appreciate the grinding mindset and the abundance of honesty as always Coach. Thanks for what you do and continued success
Fly high is my favorite opening😍 I listened to the entire opening every episode it played on.
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!
What I do after sunday church: go home fast, prepare for lunch and then watch your videos while eating coach! Love from PH 🇵🇭!
Very few people pick up on this. But when Tsukki comes back into the game, Ushiwaka’s gives Tsukki a gesture of apology
Soooo hype! Its really cool how you set boundaries with your audience. I always struggle keeping boundaries and say yes to too many things. I hope you really enjoy the last episode next week!
This is just what I needed to help enjoy my evening. Thanks for the consistent uploads!
Tsuki is the absolute MVP for this match, it’s a real breakthrough moment for him and emphasizes how far he’s come.
