"Jimi Hendrix was once asked what it was like to be the world's greatest guitar player. His answer was, "Go ask Rory Gallagher." "
This is how it’s done kids. Music played by real people on real instruments in real time.
What a player Rory was. I saw him live and couldn't ever understand how he could play like that. He was a great loss. Taken far too young.
Well Said my man🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🎵
Brilliant acoustic guitar player too!
Yep ,he was fantastic live , saw him twice ,he really was so joyful and brilliant on stage.
opening number of his set. can you imagine?
What a legend Rory was, Irish genius.
Now. That's how to play the guitar!
Jesus! That's how to play the guitar.
I saw Rory many times and ever performance was like this, Every time was like it was his last.
He “lived tomorrow today” R.I.P.
This was the first song of the show, let that sink in! Rory is awesome!
That's how he was when I saw him live, twice. One of the greats. RIP Rory.
Rory Rocks ! RIP
The legendary Irish blues man, Rory Gallagher. His album, Irish Tour 1974, is a must own. RIP Rory Gallagher...
Shadowplay live by him is also pretty awesome
Rory toured a lot in his day. Saw him twice. The greatest guitarist most people never heard of
Rory Gallagher Going to my home Town - Irish Tour please!
Was at the Belfast gig of the 1974 Irish Tour as a mere 13 year old. Seems like only yesterday day Hard to believe that's 50 years ago!
I'm from mayo, Ireland. Here we worship Rory as a God.
So was my Mom. Cartron, Attymass, Ballina. Her maiden name was Barrett.
In 1973, my buddies and I were all excited about seeing Deep Purple at the old San Bernardino Swing Auditorium. I will never forget it. There was an opening band from Ireland playing by the name Rory Gallagher. We were immediately blown away. We yelled out for 2 more encores and Rory obliged. He inadvertently stole the show from DP. My buddies and I, needless to say, became avid Rory fans.
In the top 10 of alltime
So feckin good!
That’s exactly what Rory was a showman who brought energy like no other. Always wanted to play live for the people and hated the thought of being stuck in a recording studio.
Greetings from Cork Ireland 🇮🇪
Gerry McAvoy, the bassist is still working. What an absolute legend.
Yes, I've seen his band twice and will be doing so again this year. Well worth going to watch; an authentic and respectful tribute to the legendary Rory and his amazing music. (I'm lucky to have seen Rory twice, too)
Try Live at the Isle of Wight - and I believe all Irish folk will want you to pronounce his surname 'Galla her'(silent g).
Rory is an absolute legend!!
Rory honoured to see him 3 times one of best guitarists ever
he have high energy to audience, variable output sound by his old fender, he have so iconic style performance act on the stage, every note picked so convidental .... pfffhhhh never end Rory !!! ✌️, 🌹...☕☕ ? 😊
That was just one of many classic Rory Gallagher tunes. Check out Shadow Play, Nadine, and Bullfrog Blues just to name a couple. Probably the best guitarist I've ever seen and I think I've seen many of the great
Shadow Play is a must Gents!
Love Rory so much.
From Australia , More Rory I think after this you would agree , (Shadow play) live is another great performance ! What a legend he was R.I.P. RORY , Peace from down under
Rory will always be no.1; he should be taught in schools
Rory was one of the greatest Guitarists to ever come out of Ireland
One of? Be interested to know who is up there with him?
@@vamboroolz1612I think he refers to Gary Moore. One of the very best indeed this world has seen … but Rory is not from this world 😊
We lost him too soon. Both Rory and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy gone too soon. Phil actually grew up near my house.
One of the best gigs I ever went to. Afterwards he was just a pool of sweat. RIP Rory, you did us all proud!
God, I love Rory. First heard him playing with Taste when he was 19 and I was 15. He was always there in my and many others lives. RIP you beauty.
I saw him live more than any other act, about 9 times. Always awesome.
Have you just opened the Rory Gallagher rabbit hole?
There's a ten plus minute version of Shadow Play that tops this, also the version of Hands Off from the Old Grey Whistle Test is awesome. A couple of versions of Bullfrog Blues, one as a three piece, one as a four are well worth a look.
Two of the best guitar players ever to pick a guitar up were Rory and Gary Moore. They knew each other really well back the day, sharing each others guitars and amps on stage if there was any break down of equipment, or broken strings. Gary should be involved in Irish music week, underappreciated by the music media, but idolized by other musicians. A few suggestions just in case - The Messiah Will Come Again live from Montreux 1990, Gary's cover of Jimi's Red House from the Strat Pack concert, and the live performance of Thin Lizzy's Black Rose with Scott Gorham. Rory and Gary were two of finest guitarists ever pick the instrument. R.I.P. both.
Absolute legend. Always loved being on stage and you could see it.
It might be grubby and battered, but that is one happy Stratocaster
No one else like Rory - he was truly a one of a kind musician and person. This is how Rory opened the show - amazing, not even his best performance, but an indication of just how incredible he was. He was a brilliant, self-taught multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with an incredibly diverse catalogue of music. So much to choose from.
Couldn't have said it better!
kkkk You haven't seen anything yet, this was just an appetizer, there are unbelievable performances, I suggest Bulfrog Blues (1980 in Paris) Shadow Play (Montreux 1979) HELL Cat and Waywarchild (I think Montreux 1979 too) among many others, as well as an extraordinary instrumentalist , was unbeatable on stage.......
Bad penny from Montreaux?
Just finished work and this hit my phone.. Yeah baby!
Well then ! You chaps have finally witnessed one the most under rated genius of Rory Gallagher !glad u enjoyed it ! If you check out "The Old Grey Whistle Test " there is a shed load of Rory to be enjoyed ! tracks such as "Bull frog Blues " "A Million Miles Away" "Souped Up Ford" to name a few ! He came to Cornwall quite a few times ,he will be sorely missed !! Legend
There is so much great music from Rory - ‘Do you read’ from the Ulster Hall or ‘All around man’ live at the BBC
One of the greats and major influence of many
Legend 👏👏👏
Rory was all about raw energy, even on his slower, more bluesy songs he poured absolutely everything into it. You watch him play and wonder how he had any fingers left at the end of the night.
A fantastic player, and by all accounts a genuinely humble and down to earth guy, cruelly taken from us way too soon.
That was just the opening number. There are a few other songs from the same gig on RUclips with a PHENOMENAL version of Shadow play
One of the best Irish guitarists of all time and was even an influence on Brian May, gone way way to long and we lost a legend. Live in Europe and Irish Tour 74 are classic albums as well as early Taste. Three of of own gone to the great gig in the sky, Rory, Phil [ Lynott] and Gary [Moore]. Growing up in the 70's Rory was my idol as he was for many people here in Ireland 😀
not one of the best he was the best
Slash also admitted that Rory was one of his heroes.
Check out Walk On Hot Coals from The Old Grey Whistle Test TV show.
Rory was incredible.. I wouldn't say that's his best live performance ever.. but there are so so many good ones! Electric and acoustic (and mandolin). For another heavyish one try BAD PENNY live, or Brute force and Ignorance. For bluesy or acoustic, try Bankers Blues, Pistol slapper bleus, Rag mama rag, Going to my hometown, ... all good!
Bad Penny was my first introduction to Rory and holy moly! What a song, still listen to it regularly 20 years later
Saw Taste live several times, Rory was a top live performer as you saw, only problem was I felt like I'd run 2 marathons at the end of his shows.
There is much more from him.Check out the encore from this set called Shadow Play. RIP Rory you are missed.
The best🇮🇪💯
One of my favorite Rory tracks. The first time I saw him live I was completely knackered by the time he'd finished playing. Try Shadow Play from the Live at Montreux collection or even from the Stage Struck LP.
I saw Rory several times at a venue called the Dagenham Roundhouse in London - he was a brilliant live act
His version of Pistol Slapper Blues
He was beautiful.
Wayward Child & Last of the Independents. 🎸❤️
What's Going On at the Isle of Wight festival 1971.
Definitely.
There are video's of Rory playing for Irish school children somewhere in Ireland, and you can just see he loved bringing joy to these countrymen of his. The videos of these shows are on RUclips for sure as I watch them often, and have over the decades when I started watching Rory. I learned about him when I was in college in 68 to 71 and by 72 I had ownership interests in 3 different record stores. Now, decades later I still watch Rorey and many of the old Rock and Roll icons such as Mike Bloomfield and Jack Bruce, to name a few. It tickles me to see the renewed interest there is in music like Rory's and Gary Moore's. Taste was Rory's first band that caught my attention and the music world thought they had another Cream on their hands, but evidence will witness that that is not what Rory had in mind. His immense talent was evident, but he had been an Irishman from a poor family. Most of Ireland was poor back than. Rory seen realized the purity of being a musician who was fine with the fame part of the music business but striving to build a fortune did not appeal to him. He became a musician and that was enough for him, a great musician. The acquiring massive wealth did not appeal to him.
There's a Rory Gallagher festival in ballyshannon every year...which is around 30 miles away from me lol
Cradle Rock, 74 Irish Tour - check out the audience reaction.
I saw him change a string in the middle of a solo and you wouldn’t notice if you weren’t watching 🇮🇪
Live In Europe and Irish Tour are excellent albums
Saw him twice from up close. Favourites = Tatoo'd Lady and Bullfrog Blues. Both worth a watch.
My dad brought me to city hall to see him when i was 14 changed my life
You will be blown away with bullfrog blues. He gives a solo spot to each band member. Thirteen minutes of Brilliance.
Taken too soon rip Rory. Shadow play is a great track .
He did a good session on The old grey whistle test,
Force of nature
I saw him in Rotterdam Holland,he was great.🙏
✨💖✨So I’m listening and watching, and I’m thinking, ”waaaait a minute, I know this guy…" And then I looked at the date. Ooops. I just outed my age, din’ I? Lol
Yeah, it was when he “Chuck Berry-ed" accroos the stage that I finally got a clue. Solid, solid stuff. Thank you. I’ll be bopping around all day.
Man you guys really need to check out his Bullfrog Blues performance.
Rory is a genius on a guitar and this is good, but by far his best.
Was a genius :)
Slash idolised him, some great clips where they play together.....Rory and Gary both on best list ..not bad for such small island
Second G is silent. Cool reaction.
Didn't see your comment- said the same above.
Thank you for this!!
We love you, Rory ❤️🇨🇮🇺🇸
Rory was and is one of the greatest. This isn't his best performance though, go down the rabbit hole and you'll see!!
Simply the GOAT, and if you don't believe me as he was named by non other than one J Hendrixs esq! when asked what i felt like to be the greatest,
he simply said i dont know go ask Rory gallagher
Holy FCKING 💩!!!! I Just Witnessed An Atomic Bomb Going Off!!
I'm British,old, 68.
I saw Rory a few times back in the day.
As great as this is, it's not typical of his reportouire.
This track, however, is shit hot.
The pinched harmonics in the first solo are effing incredible, add to that the relentless drive of the whole thing, and voilà, you have a masterpiece.
NO BODY GOT NUT?IN ON RORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rory was well known in the UK, and being from Ireland, but American Rock/Blues fans were somewhat ignorant of this great guitarist. The great Jimi Hendrix, regarded by almost everyone, as the greatest Rock/Blues guitarist ever, said of Rory, way back in 1968, Rory is the greatest guitarist no one outsider of Europ has heard of." Rory is easily in the top 3 guitarists ever.
So glad you found Rory Gallagher! He was an gifted performer who followed his own path and missed the fame afforded to Clapton and others of the time by never compromising his vision. Since you enjoyed that so much, I highly recommend listening to "Can You Read Me?" from Rock Goes to College-high energy and amazing guitar skills on display. Any of the Old Grey Whistle Test videos are outstanding, especially "All Around Man" when he shows off his harmonica skills as well. Also check out "Going to My Hometown" at Hammersmith Odeon in 1977 (he's playing a mandolin!). He was an accomplished acoustic player as well. Great examples of that are pretty much any rendition of "Pistol Slapper Blues", or "Walking Blues" at Montreux at 1985.
If you liked that you will have to to listen shadow play live in montreux. What a performance 👍
Genius! No.1!
Very few performers, living or not had the commitment to their audience that Rory did.
Hi guys nice reaction , for one of his slower songs definitely try ,, a million miles away ,,live from his EPIC live album and movie, Irish tour 74 ,one of most popular songs amazing stuff , or his cover of the old blues classic BULLFROG BLUES from the,, old grey whistle test ,,BBC TV show , . very entertaining channel guys .
A million miles away from Irish tour is my favorite song of all of my 70 years. Best guitarist so far in my opinion.
You may like his performance in France playing Bull Frog Blues. He actually gets down on the floor with the audience. He believed in close contact with the crowd. Sometimes he would play more than just a couple of songs as an encore - he would play an extra 30 or 40 minutes. He never compromised. He was the real thing.
Rory is the greatest guitarist ever even Brian May accredited him as 1 main reasons for him picking up a guitar n influencing his style. A legend taken far 2 soon
Silly talk, great guitarist along with thousands more
@@kippsguitar6539 well that's silly talk ppl taste n opinions r all subjective 2 each individual just because it's not your opinion but having seen him live for me yes he is and for many famous guitarists they puy him in that category of player
I'm into my blues/rock but, as an Englishman, still love my Southern Rock.
I'm into Great Britain, but as an Irishman, still hate the English.
Fuckin brilliant
You'll be doing yourself a huge musical favor by going down to Rory Gallagher wormhole. Everything this guy does is amazing check out the song souped-up Ford. Garbage man is pretty good too
Hi guys! Hey. Can you do another Rory reaction? Try checking out "Tattoo'd Lady" from 1979 Rockpalast. 13 minutes of freakin' awesome guitar work-you'll love it!
Rory may not be the best but he's my favorite. He could never pull off in the studio what he could do on the stage. If you wanted to hear Rory, you had to see him live. No comparison.
My favourite band (Purple) and guitarist Blackmore. Only two choices when he left. Rory Gallacher and Micheal Schenker. BTW Check out Schenker on Rock Bottom?
Magic 😊😊😊😊😊
Since you are blues guys, Rory did a lot of blues. Check out some of his acoustic stuff. He goes way back and rekindles some of the old great blues artists of the early 1900s.
Fond memories of Rory's Rockpalast performances 🇮🇪
Having said that, anyone listen to Donegal girl Muirinn Bradley??
Rory was great but another under rated player from England this time was Alvin Lee. He was a bit older than Rory. His track ‘bluest blues’ with features Beatle George Harrison is a goodie. Rory’s ‘ Million Miles Away’ is a classic.
Anyone with any Taste knows this is the only Gallagher worth listening to. 😉
Ha very witty , his first band were called "Taste" cheers !
rory and jimi hendrix 2 greats
