I drove both and ended up with a 2002 (AP1) with 23,000 miles on it. IMO, the AP2 looks better inside and out, however, the AP1 is way more fun to drive. Yes, the 9k Redline matters.Yes, the AP1 feels more raw. No, the torque is not a big difference between the two models.
I've owned a 2002, AP1 for the past 10 years and have driven several AP2's. I've found my AP1 gives me more "feedback", while the AP2's are just slightly "softer". I have never tracked the car but I drive it daily on mountain roads and while I recognize the "twitchy" rear end, you just have to up your driving to control it. Bottom line, just as you said, buy the one that's been well cared for and has low mileage.
Honestly bro, kinda sucks how much negativity you got from the mustang to the s2k, but I honestly enjoy the vids still. You seem like a cool dude. Keep grinding these videos out brotha.💯👌
The fact that the AP1 and AP2 is constantly being debated on which is better just means they are both good and only if one were to build an S2000 with the best of both cars will then there will be a “ best “ S2000.
I own a 2002 AP1 completely stock. Couple of corrections the redline is 9k not 9.2 k and it does have a rev limiter, beginning in 02 they changed from the plastic window to a glass window. There is the spare and the roadside kit in the 02 and the 02 has round chrome exhaust tips. My dealer friend has kept trying to buy the 02 and have me "upgrade" to a newer model but refuse because mostly of the sound of a car engine reving to 9k, just awesome but also because of the stiffer suspension, this is a daily drive and get used even on 6-700 miles trips with no issues. Great car, nothing like it.
Yes, regardless of the model year....nothing like it. The S 2000 has the feel of a race car. When I initially was looking at these cars back in 2005, (I bought a 2002 with 21,000 miles)....a dealer rep told me that Honda basically made a legal race car. I remember thinking yeah sure you say that to everyone. Well, he was right. There is nothing like an S 2000.
Never got to 9.2. When it hits 9k it is like hitting a brick wall. Throws me forward in the seat. It is also temp sensitive will not go over 6k till heats up. Also does the seat thing.
Thinking about an s2k in the future so I looked up a few vids, suprised to see the guy who reviewed my car on tiktok has a vid on exactly this 😂😂, great content man keep it up
AP1's got glass rear window's in 2001..I drove the Honda S2000 AP1 and AP2 and the AP1 handles better like a racecar then Honda softened the AP2 and gave it taller springs. But both are great sports cars.
Drove both ap1 and 2 last week for the first time. I bought the ap1 mainly bc of condition. It's a 2000 with 31k miles. I prefer the look and feel of the ap1 but I just couldn't pass up this find!
You miss 99-05 was cable driven 06-09 drive by wire. AP1’s didn’t have VSA where the AP2 did. The AP2 has a different rear diff then the AP1. There really is a laundry list of things you just need to do your research. If you are going to be in the market for a S2000. Me myself I went with a 07 AP2.
with this come related to ECU tuning on AP2 model 2006 and up will be easier, due to electronic throttle body. ECU on these model will be easier to tune with Hondata Flash Pro. So if you're going force induction you don't have to spend more money on a stand alone ECU.
Well the AP2 is a better and stronger car tbh, there is alot more differences than the 9k rpm. Both car are fun but it's true that you have a more raw experience's with an AP1. It's not quicker around the track, it's just more raw.
one of my family's friends got a 80k mile 01 rio yellow they offering to sell to me. wondering if i should take the deal even tho im more or less looking fro gpw or bb 06+. for like 5-7k $more

AP2 has reinforced chassis, valve retainers, stronger differential, closer gears for acceleration and lower gear on last for lower rpm to save gas cruising.
Then the ap2 is better... more torque to get off the line and their both rear wheel drive & you get the same horses, just because the 8200 redline is what you get doesnt mean u cant get the same power
Take this example... If I put you guys both cars with the same mileage, same condition, last year of production of Ap1 and Ap2 Which one will you pick???
got 1 question, can F20C (S2K eng.) fit in to Honda Accord SM4?? due to their F-series 'family' engine btw, H22's gearbox can fit to F22A eng. and its running well…so i think F22B's gbox will fit to F20C (to my opinion and theory)
hey man how long you had your S2K? looks in great shape how many miles? thats a 2005 i can tell from the rims. I have a 2005 as well check it out on my channel . I love my AP2 she is aittle more refined and looks more sexy.
Here are some more differences. Basically the AP2 is more bulletproof in general. The syncros in the transmission are carbon fiber, the differential is a little more beefed up and the retainers are stronger. Another thing to note is the updated banjo bolts but mid year 02+ AP1s have that as well.
The AP2 here in the USA is NOT actually an "s2000". It technically is an "s2200" . The AP1 is the only TRUE s2000 based on the moniker alone. That is why the rest of the world kept the 9k redline. Fait accompli

I think 2002 is when it got the glass window. 00-01 had the carpet, smaller H emblems, and the plastic rear window.
My 03 ap1 came with glass window and spare tire kit.

Yup!
Yeah there's tons of lesser known differences, its much more than just stroking out the engine
2004 + AP1’s have VSA, and later received drive by wire, and they received the updated diff too... AP1’s received all of the upgrades too.

Can you guys count how many times I said "AP"? 🤣 also if I missed any big differences, comment down below! 👇🏽
If I was want a good daily car and too have fun with it what is better
I think it might be slightly bigger bore too kind of like a b20 versus b16 and b18.
Can you do a difference in the interior

that S2000 need some paint bro :(

9k ftw!! 🔥 still like the ap2 thoe but ap1 feels more of a race car cuz the 9k rev limiter
If you feel its more race car cuz 200rpm thats stupid
That Silverboat - 1000 stupid
You have stock 04 ap2v1 wheels, not ap2v2.
Glad someone else noticed that mistake!
I had an AP1 in gorgeous GPW, sold it at 220k miles original clutch for 6700.

Ap2 looks more modern because of a refresh
El Supra Get an AP1 and put AP2 features, Its worth the Time 🤤
Bro your Jay Critches twin ha
ap2 is a bit heavier due to the .2L
... less cylinder material and longer rods adds weight? You're high
F22 versus F20 is just a longer stroke, not bore increased, there's no difference in engine weight. Engines are still the same.
Btw isn’t it logical an AP2 is worth more than an AP1 because on average an AP2 is newer with less miles than an AP1.
No mostly just because they made less AP2’s and they’re more reliable.
Uk spec from 06 still kept the k20 but all other mods where done best of both worlds I think
The difference between ap1 and ap2 is how big the drivers balls are. #truestory
s2000's are GREAT but the lighting on this video not so much.
