I'm not sure the best way to contact you, but would you possibly allow it to be used in a creative video? The real villain of Final Fantasy VII was always Hojo. True, Jenova was the catalyst for most of the misery therein; but Jenova was an alien life form, whose intentions we might never be able to really discern. For all we know, Jenova was a parasite, or was itself parasitized, a slave to its own corrupted instincts. But Hojo? Hojo knew there was so much power in its blood he decided to impart some of it onto an innocent child in utero.
In the Nibelheim scene, we witness Sephiroth lose his grip on sanity when he comes near the sample of Jenova contained within the reactor. It's been my hypothesis for a long time that his insanity, his corruption, was a direct consequence of coming into contact with the Jenova life-form; from there, Sephiroth's will was hijacked, the same way Jenova hijacked the Cetra.
Jenova descended on to the Planet. Attempted to take it over. Even in Sephiroth's stated aims, he wants to hijack the Planet and use it as a vessel to voyage through the cosmos. Jenova was seeking to infect yet another world. She might even be related to the Lavos creature of Chrono Trigger. Interesting to think about.

The fact that he was virtually isolated from "normal" people by his status his whole life just to find out he was actually a "monster" is quite heartbreaking if you think about it, he didn't get to chose the way people saw him, neither as a hero or as a puppet and in the end he would never be part of the rest for the most awful reason.

A kind reminder to everyone that Sephiroth was an emotionally stunted 21 year old in the middle of grieving his friends' deaths while reeling over their quick abandonment of him when he was roofied by Jenova into believing Hojo's nonsense. Cloud pities him because he's pitiful. He may never get a redemption arc, but he deserves one, just like he deserves time to heal.

To everyone trying to humanize a repentant Sephiroth, I get it. I really do. The story of a sinner seeking atonement at the end is a deeply engrained part of our global culture, it's a powerful story.
But it is not this story.
Sephiroth was never human, he was born a human-Jenova hybrid. He isn't a fallen angel, because he was never meant to protect the people or the planet. No, his existence was due to one thing, and pre-Nibelheim, revolved around one purpose:
    Human Greed.
Sephiroth was made to be the perfect SOLDIER. The pinnacle of the military arm of a Corporate Government with a global empire. The lynchpin around which Shinra would establish its permanent control over the planet and its people. The enforcer and guardian of the will of those who seek profit above all else, wealth and riches at the cost of human, no, planetary lives. Jenova was a world eater, and Shinra Corporation was following in its footsteps when it attempted to access the Lifestream for its material wealth.
Sephiroth was designed, ENGINEERED, to be the ultimate weapon in Shinra's war to master the planet, and we see that he did not question this, he did not hear the call of the planet, he COULD not hear it, because his very existence was an abomination. Even before Shinra Mansion he was cold, aloof, yes capable of connecting to other people like Angeal, Genesis, and even Zack, he still was part human, but they were also engineered or otherwise modified, more like him than he was like an average human.
The tragedy of Sephiroth isn't that he fell from grace, a fallen angel turned demon. No. His real tragedy is that, because of human material greed, he was never even ALLOWED to be human. Not once. Small wonder then he concluded his destiny was to be a god. It's lonely at the top, and that's all he ever was: alone.
As Cloud told him in Advent Children: "I pity you."

Sephiroth has honestly become an all-time favorite for me over the years since I played further into the installments of the series. At first, I actually didn't much care for him, yes he was a cool villain, but nothing I really went wide-eyed over, let alone hype about while younger. Then I watched the Advent Children movie, the animation and take on everything being, at least in my eyes at the time, quite breathtaking to watch everyone be in such a medium and shown in so much detail from their little polygon counterparts. Left and right I saw more instances of Sephiroth with games like Dissidia, Kingdom Hearts and so on where he grew on me in terms of being one of those cool villains and such.
But then my hands reached Crisis Core, a game that moved me to tears with its ending, widened me eyes that Sephiroth before, was indeed the hero everyone spoke of in the original and got me questioning just what made it all go wrong. I wanted to know more, and when finally unmasking as much detail as I could, Sephiroth became such a favorite in my eyes on just how tragic a hero can be. An experiment before he even got a chance to be born, raised to be nothing but a peerless warrior on the battlefield that he stepped foot in at such a young age just because he didn't attain the same power of listening to the planet like the Cetra, seen nothing more than just some natural super soldier. He wasn't even given the chance to be held by his real mother, Lucrecia, even once, let alone know about her existence to begin with.
The only small shimmers that kept his humanity alive were those who came into his life, some who even gained his full respect like professor Gast, or even Eife who allowed Sephiroth to question and give him reason for fighting with a cause. Then of course there was Angeal and Genesis, the two people he genuinely called friends, the only people he disobeyed orders for in order for them to escape or not be cut down by him. Sephiroth even selflessly brought himself forward to donate blood for Genesis to help heal a wound he caused during their little one-on-one duel that Angeal managed to stop in time but was refused due to being incompatible, but also due to Shinra knowing what the cells in his body would do. They practiced almost every day, the three of them true friends, until Shinra, until Hojo's actions and plans only hurled the three into a chaotic spiral that broke them all apart.
Genesis defected, having learned more than he should and his pride getting the better of him and making him desperate due to being given a time limit on his quickly deteriorating life. Angeal following soon after, leaving Shinra due to being conflicted on his loyalties, unable to follow their orders any longer. Sephiroth was left alone, his two friends having left him and whenever their names came up again? They were only for orders to hunt them down as traitors to the company. The hero indeed went after them, but not for the orders he was given, but for wanting to know why, to question the two and bring them back, which brought the new friend into view; Zack. They both mutually wished to bring Angeal and Genesis to return without having to fight, but the situations became so dire, Sephiroth never making it in time let alone convince them only to learn later of being Killed In Action.
The only friend left now being Zack, he expresses his wish to retire from Shinra, going on one last mission, one more trip with a friend to do his job as a hero in exterminating monsters harassing his home's reactor in Nibelheim. The mission, however, clearly didn't go as planned, instead finding the source of the monsters being the grotesque truths within the reactor of the Mako infused SOLDIERS, Zack attempting to connect the dots, dots that Sephiroth furiously refused to believe.
He was already feeling alone, feeling like he was in a pitch black void of darkness with no one to reach out, even Zack's words falling on deaf ears as he tried to refuse the mixture of information that's a part of his life. So he tore the manor's library in Nibelheim apart, reading without end throughout the research notes and books across that entire lab, with the only repeated word coming into view that gnawed on his mind, the name that Hojo told him from the start to supposedly be his mother; JENOVA. The web of lies that Hojo strung around Sephiroth's life only entrapping the apparent "super monster SOLDIER" that Hojo wished to make, entangling himself further in but a bigger lie, a lie he himself embraced from having nothing more, Zack coming too late just as he was too late for Angeal and Genesis.
His friends were gone, the days of him training to cut apples with Angeal and Genesis long gone, Professor Gast killed and erased from records, the one man who could've been a caring father figure, trapped in a coffin right besides the very library his descent took place in, and the one final friend he could've still had not having arrived in time to help him. And so that day, he destroyed the village where it all began, his silent fury putting it all ablaze to fully consume himself in the final lie in his life; to be the one chosen by his "mother" in getting revenge for all that humanity's done, having no more opportunities for a voice of reason, when the last one died on that cliff overlooking Midgar, paying the price for freedom.

Many people seem to forget just how tragic Sephiroth's story truly is. For all the torment he brings upon others, he is the most tortured of all, trapped within the darkness of his own mind. He was considered a hero once. It is my hope that maybe some day, he'll find a light in that darkness, and wake up the man he was. I know he's a fictional character, and in the end, it likely won't happen, but Sephiroth deserves to be remembered as more than the stereotypical "edgy anime villain" that many have come to see him as.

I honestly believe that the Remake will touch on redemption for Sephiroth, and may even deliver him a redemption arc. I believe so because of two scenes in the game, which I believe are interconnected.
When Cloud and Co. were on their way to Aerith's home, Sephiroth proclaimed "his" Cetra heritage and claimed the Planet as his "birthright", and afterwards basically told Cloud to become stronger. That's highly uncharacteristic of him, and at the end, where he and Cloud are at the Edge of Creation, Sephiroth (esp in the Japanese vers) seemed to want Cloud's help to prevent a calamity.
Hopefully these are signs of greater nuances and redemption of a character that didn't deserve all this.

How different things could have gone if Sephiroth never went mad. He was broken by the revelation of Jenova, who wasn’t even his real mother in the end. His loving and kind mother was killed by his insane father, who was then the one to raise Sephiroth to be the perfect experiment. Vincent, who would have been the perfect father figure for our young Sephiroth, was shot by Hojo and locked away in a coffin for 20+ years. That was the nail in the coffin for Hojo, who now had supreme control over Sephiroth. He erased himself, Lucrecia, and Vincent from the narrative, then left Sephiroth to fend for himself in a world that doesn’t let you do that. All for a pointless competition over who would destroy the world between Hojo and Hollander. All of their experiments were perfect; the two just couldn’t see the things that made them that way.

This is important cause the largest collection of Jenova cells outside of Jenova herself is in Lucretia, Sephiroth's actual mom. Jenova shows her what Sephiroth will become and do in the future and it causes her pain, she can't escape it as she tells Vincent that she can't even kill herself that endless pain is transferred to Sephiroth who works tirelessly to end the pain while thinking it originated from Jenova who Hojo made him believe is his mom and all his work just furthers Lucretia's pain causing him to spiral further and further into insanity.

Everyone talks about how a vicious and cruel man Sephiroth is, mainly because of the Jenova-Sephiroths and Clone-Sephiroths they encounter during the entirety of FF7... but then Crisis Core changed all of it.
Sephiroth was shown to have been a good man.
Sephiroth was shown how he was a hero to those he fought alongside, despite how detached he can be to total strangers.
Sephiroth was a man who, for all intents and purposes, broke down and shattered when he found the notes his ‘father’ left behind. A lie he believed to be the truth...

It's this sort of storytelling that makes me love Sephiroth so much. There is so much depth to his character, his motivations. He seemed to be such a private fellow, though appearing to be all right being a public figure... to quote Cloud, "he never talked about himself." He wasn't one to divulge his personal thoughts and feelings very often, perhaps because he didn't want to appear weak, perhaps because he felt so isolated from everyone else ("I always knew I was different ever since I was small") He was just so powerful and he didn't have any idea WHY, and then to find out in the way that he did... to find out that his entire life had been controlled, manipulated, in order to use him as a tool for Shinra's ambitions... Shinra, the very company he worked for... they had created him to be used. And not only that, but to believe, at least for a time, that he was a Cetra, the last of his kind, because of humans abandoning who he believed to be his ancestors, his family... And all he had left was the body of the creature he considered his mother, whose touch he probably had craved since he was little, considering he grew up without parents. He didn't know what it felt like to be cared for by a family who loved him, he didn't know what it felt like to have a home town to return to, but he, still having some semblance of humanity, NEEDED those connections, needed to have people in his life he could love and trust. And he never really got that. Is it any wonder he felt so much anger? Is it any wonder he became something that ultimately had to be destroyed? Sephiroth defines his archetype, and it is easy to see why.

Could you imagine if they made a sequel to FF7 and Advent Children, one where Sephiroth is the primary antagonist for the better part of the game before some twist of circumstances placed him in a situation where he has to help Cloud and those he was fighting against? Some crazy powerful, forgotten enemy of ancient times threatens all and Sephiroth is the only one who can stop it. He knows that in doing so, he will truly die this time. In the end, how ironic it would be that despite all of Sephiroth's destruction and chaos through the years, he was the only one who could've stepped up to save everyone.
Then he would be a memory. Yet how would they remember him?

He was a respected war hero. But then, after learning the cruel truth behind his creation, he could not handle it, and lost everything he loved to his own insanity. It's a tragic story. The real Sephiroth that Angeal and Genesis were friends with... He was gone, and nowhere to be found. Replaced by the monster that was slowly growing inside him. Seriously i think that for once guys should stop thinking with their D***s and start thinking with their heads and take a better look at the true Sephiroth who was once a good kind hearted and sad broken man who's life got effed up ever since he was a baby who was taken away from his real mother before she could even hold him UGGGHHH i just hate how people are such D***s to poor Sephy it's like that one quote i heard once a very long time ago and that quote went something like this.--->
"The World Pushed Me Without Mercy and when i pushed back the world pointed and cried EVIL!".
And this quote suits Sephiroth's situation quite well...Poor Sephy, and even though it was not his real mom Sephiroth committed all that scary stuff because of the love he had for his Alien mother who he thought was his real mother,so Sephiroth just wanted to save his mother even though again it wasn't his real mother,so is he really to blame for wanting to save his mother from torment?...I thinks not any person who is anyone would wanna save their mother even if he or she had to kill some people in the way in order to do so,and yes innocent people died but that is because Seph was being controlled by the rage he had deep inside him for what they had done to his mother and when you have someone in deep rage like that it will sometimes be hard to tell friend from foe,cus in that moment nothing else matters and thus you are blinded to what surrounds you.

I like your description a lot, most people tend to think Sephiroth is this terrible, complex and evil person, but the reality is that he was a really nice guy when he was still in control, but after going through what he has, and Jenova taking control of him, he might as well not have been sephiroth anymore, just Jenova in his skin. Jenova is the villain, and Sephiroth is one of many victims, to it and to Shin-Ra

Am I the only one who thinks you could reverse the order of Crisis Core and FF7 in terms of publication and it would make an equally great story? It would make the Nibelheim tragedy unbelievably epic because you'd never expect Cloud to stand up to Sephiroth and win. But especially when you do FF7, you'll know right away that Cloud isn't telling the truth about his past, you'll wonder why Zack is never mentioned, and you'll have a very different way of looking at Sephiroth, still a monster but this time he really used to be your friend.
Edit : Fixed a few grammar mistakes

    • @Melandru

Yes I think that would also be a great way to tell the story and deepen the characters arcs, especially that of Sephiroth!

@@Lycanthromancer1 Professor Hojo gets his. He’s the one I blame as he orchestrated a lot of this bull from the experiments on the cetra to having Sephiroth believe he’s something other than what he really was. That goes to show you the logic, scientific only approach is gravely flawed as any thing to the extreme is.

Sephiroth didn't have PTSD, he found out the truth of his heritage: "My mother was an alien that wanted to destroy all life on this planet and use this world as her living vessel." He wasn't suffering under some sort of trauma, he learned the truth of his past and said "Ohhhhh, so THAT'S what I should be doing!" If he had any humanity within him he would have truly gone insane due to the duality of his bloodline. But no, he went all-in with Jenova's wishes and made it his life's goal to fulfill his Mother's wishes. He was quite sane, and had a singular focus: the annihilation of all life on the planet to accomplish his Mother's goal.

    • @JMrealgamer
      @JMrealgamer 3 года назад

@@ruggedlemmings9163 I say he has a form of PTSD because that leaves soldiers (which he was for Shinra) not all there (100%) in the head. So to me it still fits. He was insane. There was nothing same about what he did. I mean it was probably sane to him. Him being a soldier and exposed to crap on the battlefield at a young age plus the tests he knew nothing about had to have a negative impact on him prior to him finding out those truths. Once he found out that’s what broke the camels back in his mind.
