I played it after a year and I was surprised by how much I'd forgotten, sure it won't be exactly like playing it for the first time but you'll be surprised by the extent to which you can fall in love with it all over again...

Skellige is Scandinavia with Scottish culture (clans, place names like "Ard") Velen is Poland with English influence (the pellars and cunning folk are English influence) Novigrad is Novgorod with influences from Belgian and Dutch middle age cities. Toussaint is France Nilfgaard is holy roman empire with Italian and Spanish culture. Places like "Kaer Morhen" or "Kaer Trolde" Come from the Welsh word "Caer" meaning Castle. The whole continent is a wonderful mix of European culture from the Polish perspective
Novigrad is in fact a mix between Novgorod and Gdańsk/Danzig. Even the medieval port crane building was copypasted from Gdańsk into the game (google it up and compare with in-game graphics :) )
Polish person here in my opinion it's more like this: Skellige is indeed scandinavia and british isles but Velen is East Poland under partitions in XVII century as well as an image of other Slavic lands at times of war and poverty (the pellar is a character straight from Adam Mickiweicz's XVIII century play "Forefather's Eve" in which he is based entirely on Polish pagan rituals and traditions In Polish it's "Guślarz". The Peller's questline is heavily inspiried on the play) Novigrad is the archetypical rich port trade town which Sapkowski probably based on Gdańsk, Venice and Amsterdam Nilfgaard is Germany in general, it has references to Nazi Germany, Holy Roman Empire as well as current day Germany in relation to Poland (Both Nilfgaard and Germany are using trade and cheap goods as a an economic weapon against Redania which is Poland) Now I don't know about the names of location but I trust your analysis. Toussaint is Southern France and Italy combined in the most beneficial way (the architecture is clearly italian but the names and culture French)
My father died from a sudden heart attack years ago while this game was new. I was playing this game and in Ard Skellig when I heard. I spent hour upon hour watching the trees blow in the wind and listening to this song. It helped me. Thank you to the composer and artists.
I was in my room playing Witcher 3, was also in Ard Skellig on little boat exploring when my mother knocked on my room door and said all teared up ,,grandma passed away in hospital''. She had pancreatic cancer at last stages when we found out about it. I was so confused at that moment trying to calm her and make her feel better. Its like a was running away from my emotions, like i didnt want to let them overtake me but it really did hit me hard bit later and i couldnt hold it anymore. Everything that we did go through toghether, everything that she did, first for me and my mother, then for rest of the familly got squeezed in one point and just disappeared. Thats why i came back to listen to this, it will always remind me of her, such a beautiful soul she was 😢

first thing i did when the story was over is go to Kaer Morhen,and to triss house in novigrad only to find out no one is there. i felt so empty. i played the expansions after but the feeling of despair was still there. it didnt feel right without the main characters
@@mr.melone520 I know what you mean I also checked out Kaer Morhen and Triss house and played the expansions but still it felt just different I was so happy when I got the letter from Jen(or Triss) in Blood and Wine but that was the only thing
After I finished the game, I took my last trip to Ard Skellig, in my Grandmaster bear armor, climbed the highest mountain on the island, watched the view for a good 15 minutes, and then logged off. I'll never forget this game. It is a masterpiece.

I love that everywhere in the Continent, Geralt is often mistreated with disdain, insults and even pity because people only see the "mutant" side of him, and all that's bad about witchers. But in Skellige he's well respected and admired because they only care about his "warrior" side.
That's the reason why I loved blood and wine. In Toussaint everyone treats Geralt even better. They meet you, give you a freaking estate and call you "sir" and "master".
In Skillige, they're also much more observant of the old ways. They understand and appreciate a Witcher's role in society. And given the state of the Isles, they're probably just happy that a professional is finally around to deal with their monster problem. Besides, if they have a problem with you, they're more than happy to settle it with a good brawl, then move on like nothing happened.
I took Geralt to Skellig. While I was plundering the sinking ship, I heard this magnificent music, a perfect violin and voice, and I got on my horse and, with the joy of the music, I am slowly heading towards a land I do not know. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the game.
When this was playing as I, Geralt, was sailing to the Isle of Mists to finally see Ciri again...it was an indescribable feeling. It was almost overwhelming.
agree 110% honestly just seeing Lofoten in Skellige has made me plan my trip to Norway to see the Lofoten islands. this game was on a different level, i have so much respect for CDPR and the fair and HQ content they make

My ps4 hard drive died, no way to save data. over 200 hours I think on new game+... got new drive, reinstalled and not even mad, playing again, just got to crows perch.
Don't worry, we'll meet here again, every now and then, listening to this masterpiece while reliving all those memories, rejoicing all those beautiful moments and thinking about the time when life was so beautiful. This is not a soundtrack, this is an emotion. Pure emotion. Afterall, there's a bit of Geralt in all of us.

I think closest you can get to Skellige in terms of landscape - Iceland. Throw in some Scandinavian architecture and domestic culture, and you get Skellige :)

Story time: I played this game religiously from 2015-2017, and then stopped. I didn’t really think about it but it was always one of the best games I ever played. It’s 2023, and I bought the Complete Edition on PS5, as I really wanted to play it again and see if I loved it all the same (or more). I went to Skellige for the first time, and when I heard this music play I burst into tears. It unlocked a memory for me and I remember pausing the game with my headphones on, my brain flooded with memories of my first play through. What a beautiful, perfect game.

@A Russian RDR2 sadly doesnt come close to The Witcher 3 in terms of the gameplay and world building...sure its pretty but if doesnt play as well or even have mechanics as good as the Witcher 3 in terms of its quests and character progression? It loses in my opinion.

I’m 42 years old and have fallen in love with many games over the years. But none have captivated me as much as this. The world, the characters, and of course the beautiful soundtrack. 200 plus hours spent, and still wish for more. A true masterpiece of game design and musical composing. Very nice. I'm 22 and I recommended this game to my 46 years old colleague from work who bought ps4. He bought the game and currently he's finishing the Assassin's creed Odyssey and then he'll probably start with the Witcher. I'm sure he'll love it. I play the Witcher for the second time now. Currently 275 hours.
34yo, a huge fan of Witcher universe starting at late 90's. before any movies or games came out. This game is like dreams come true. It has many flaws but overal its 100% best game ever made IMO.
My husband just died of syphilis. I remember us, playing this game together for hours on end, about 2 years ago. We were so young and thrilled. Everytime I hear the music of Ard Skellig my heart recollects a memory of him. Thank you, CD project red.
I have been playing video games for about 30 years. I have played through some of the greatest games ever made. THIS is by far the most complete experience ever created. Absolute masterpiece and a work of art. The story, characters and music are among the greatest ever! Only bad thing, it ruined games for me... NOTHING compares. I am writing this in 2018. It is still true.
The witcher 3 allows me to forget and escape the cruel reality we live in at this moment. Even for a for a brief amount of time and thats why i love it so much.
Can't believe when I first played this masterpiece I thought it was boring and stopped playing. a couple years later I realized I almost made a life-threatening mistake.
The first time I landed in Skellige and riding Roach along the shoreline while the sun rose over the grassy hills and this song started playing... I felt a manly tear trickle down my face in awe.
+mikeyman2010 I experienced the same thing. Completely stopped me in my tracks and created a moment that very few games can which transcends it even being a game. Those moments are the ones that stand out and the ones you remember. Great game!
After 10 years I’m still playing this game. That first time when you come to Skellige, the emptiness of Kaer Morhen, the lively streets of Novigrad, the dangers awaiting you in the woods. The first real mission where you hunt the griffin with Vesemir, all acompanied by this soundtrack. Truly a masterpiece of a game, would give anything to experience it for the first time.
last week I went trekking into higher Himalayas...upon reaching the summit I listened to this music and it made the whole experience 10x better...sitting atop of 14000ft high mountain.. listening to this while being surrounded by snow capped mountains ...it was out of this world...something that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Two games were able to make me cry: Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2. These two aren't just games, masterpieces. I will recommend these to my children one day, and then watch their reactions.
I'm here after beating Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk never gave me the feeling that this game gave. Not even close. This.. This is something else. This is not a game at all. An experience that every person must get.
I really wanted to like cyberpunk and I suspect it will still be a very good game eventually. But it will never be witcher 3..... My favourite game ever

@drew bell sure.. but skyrim did a few things better than the witcher actually. For example cutscenes. It's just cutscene aftet cutscene after cutscene. Whereas in skyrim you're still in the game while in dialogue. The witcher 3 is just not that nice to play a second or third time which sucks. But overall the witcher is far superior of course and it's my favorite game
+Nineteen1900Hundred I preferred the Novigrad story due to it not being broken up from level differences (I did skellige and novigrad in the "wrong" order).
The Baron story was superb. He was so well developed I chose the crones over the tree and let the kids die just because I didn't want the Baron to kill himself lol
I heard this masterpiece today on the 27/06/23. It makes me somehow think back to simpler times as a kid. It is not as though times were better then, just simpler and less complex, you had a sense of freedom and no fear that was powerful before responsibility came into mind. I hope we all move on and improve on our own journeys through this adventure we call life.
sometimes i just walk around the islands watching the amazing view, listening to the soundtrack, this is one of the few games that breaks the barrier of being only a game and can purely be called an masterpiece
Nostalgia...such a powerful weapon. Feeling of emptiness, feeling of missing something that you never actually lost... Gentle smile on your lips, calm and sadness in your heart. Something ends, something begins.
Scandinavia + Scotland... Seriously man, Skyrim wettest dream is to be like Skellig. CD projekt nailed with perfection the authentic "far north" feeling, at least the themed on most people minds. Who doesn't like the scottish accent? What fan of medieval fantasy didn't like the Vikings? Skyrim tried and succeeded to bring some of this, but Skellig is the perfect recreation of all the good things of north europe. The world is so authentic, Witcher 3 is the best medieval themed game of alltimes, no question. Fantasy and reality alike, no game has this feelings and personality.
TheKeyser94 skellige didn't feel so large to me. Only if you consider the ocean as an active portion of the map. And yeah, Irish and Scottish feels the same to me. But there are some other accents that is very distinctive even for people like me. For example, Australians has one of the most bizarre accents in this planet, lol
+Rafael Teles I'm Scottish and many people seriously don't recognise the beauty of our country and even Ireland or the Scandanavian cultures. Gaelic culture! Also, Scotland and Ireland share many, many common things from our cultures, language, love of freedom etc. My Family moved to Scotland from Ireland in the 1700's for instance.
To al those speaking of depression after the game is over: now with all this time in quarantine, play again, but this time, savor every moment, play every quest you can find, do every contract because this game is truly the greatest experience ever created. Don’t just rush the main story, this game is at its best just taking a few hours between main missions to just explore and come across things you’ve never seen.
Just Played w1 and w2 and now playing w3 . All games for the first time . And enjoyed all of them , even w1 was amazing . W3 is brutally good , not rushing it, just savoring everything slowly, not even fast travel, even not using horse so much lately.
That was done in my second playthrough of the game.. way before the start of covid. Sadly, i cannot forget about it to experience it again. Downloaded some mods that makes it harder, more beautiful, and adds some more lore.. but got busy with school :(((((

the only bad part...is combat itself. the lore, the landscapes, the music are perfect. but movement and gameplay have aged the wrong way (and were bad also years ago.)
i dont know why but the Witcher 3 feels so much like a personal experience, when i listen to these soundtracks, i feel as though im the only person in the worlds that played it, its both a beautiful feeling and makes me sad at the same time, i want to share this experience with someone.
Me too, that's the most "personal" game I ever played. I have 330 hours in the Witcher's world, and every time I go back there I feel like home; remembering my first moments in the game always puts a smile on my face. Nice to see that I'm not alone.
I got into a heated argument with my bro about this game because I requested that he play it. Not something I do often if ever, I checked back like three months later and he said he never passed white orchard. Well it's probably because it is for the most part your quest, you're the only one who made your combination of choices throughout the game's story. Everyone's experience with this game will always be unique, even if it's slight.
One of the few other games where the experience and soundtrack have given me this feeling is Disco Elysium. Check it out if you haven’t. One of the greatest RPGs in the history of gaming IMO.
After about 30 hours play, it dawned on me when just strolling along in the nature of Ard Skellig that this was more than just a mere game. The music moved me in a way no other game did, I actually welled up a bit and got tears in my eyes. Nothing action-filled happened, I just felt a serene calm take me while taking in the landscape and feeling the history and culture of the islands. Incredible that a god damn computer game could evoke true emotions on that level.
It’s the music my friend. Music evokes emotions no visual cues can fill. That’s why the best scenes in movies typically have great music to accompany it. Imagine if Star Wars had a generic theme song. The Witcher 3 had everything going for it but the music really pushed it over into that otherworldly category where you think you are living in that time period.
This game has: -Best characters ever made. -Best Western RPG combat ever made. -Best fantastic lore ever made. -Best atmosphere ever made. -Best soundtrack ever made. -Best side quests ever made. -Best DLCs ever made. -Best fictional protagonist ever made. nah, there are various other competitors, god of war 2018 and red dead redepmtion 2 are both on the same level as this or even higher, undertale is just as brilliant as this, hollow knight is one of my personal favorites, dark souls 3 is also pretty good, breath of the wild is also a top tier game, witcher 3 is good but it is definitely not game of the century, a lot of games can compete

When i first arrived in Skellige, and heard this masterpiece, i immidiently stoped roach in the damn tracks and just started listening as it awoke some really powerful wonderful emotions. This game is trully a masterpiece.

I whole heartedly agree. Probably the only one that ever came close to this was Vampire Bloodlines and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. And I've been playing video games since I guess 1988/89?
I cried for like 5 minutes straight when I finished the game but then I realised there were 2 expansions to complete too. So I took my credit card out and made a cup of coffee.
It's awesome, i finish all the expansions, all missions, all marked points, like 3 years ago... I felt a hole inside standing on a clift in skellige listening this theme at the background. Still now , i feel nostalgic when listening to this.
+_M4R1JN _ I love Skyrim (Well, not as much as Oblivion, but still). I think what gives this game the edge is that it feels more authentic. Skyrim's conversations and characters felt hollow and empty, but with TW3, I felt like I lost family members when the game ended.

witcher 3 the best game i had ever played. it completes the thought that sometimes are left for the imagination. like the team taht made this game really think about all the small details, from the footsteps on the mud up to the most complicated things
When I first saw the beauty of Kaer Morhen and heard the Baron's story in my first playthrough, I almost cried. I'm a diehard Skyrim fan, but this game...moved me. There are no words in the dictionary to describe the compelling and concerned feelings I had for The Witcher's characters, its world, and Geralt himself. This game defines art, in every sense of the word. I truly thought that Bethesda's Skyrim could not be broken, but CD Projekt RED may have shattered it into the depths of Oblivion with The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 is an extremely rare gem that comes along once in a decade.

Absolutely agree, Skyrim was my first game ever, and it pulled me from a hard clinical depression (should I say: cured me) and I play it even today; but man, Wild Hunt is something else, otherworldly, ethereal and with such depth, it's a masterpiece ♥ I never thought I'd be moved with another soundtrack as I was with Skyrim's (which I also listen to this day, while working, showering, going to bed...) but man, Witcher's music gets me every time, I freeze everytime it comes on on my playlist... Especially this piece, oh gods~
The last masterpiece game before Witcher 3, absolute 10/10 which moved a lot of people was The Last Of Us and it was made 2 years before Wild Hunt. So in one decade you can have two, three, four, maybe even five outstanding games.

Playing it for the second time, and I did a lot more than I did the first time around, but it really didn't compare to the first time I played. But going back to Toussaint, that was incredible. The colours and the scenery are perfect, especially for settling down with Yennefer.

But on their own both cultures stayed the same and are the source of their own cultures as both were extremely isolated in their beginnings.

Nope, it's a legitimate language. I'm from the outer hebrides which is where we predominantly speak it... Was actually quite surprised when I came across this while listening to Witcher OST for the first time, as not many people in the world are aware there is a scots gaelic different from irish gaelic. I respect the fact they also didn't drift too far away from the genre culturally, gaelic is traditionally sung with a soft, straight tone with no vibrato.
I will never have a gaming experience like it ever again, RDR2 or the Mass effect series are the only ones that have even come close to the feeling of playing this for the first time.
Same here... I remember feeling empty because RDR2 ended, had nothing else to do but explore the world and find some sidequests i missed. Then a comment comparing Witcher 3 to RDR 2 came to my attention, so i bought the game with no hesitation. It was impressive. Really. It surpassed my expectation of a decent 2015 game, it's extraordinary! The beautiful cities, memorable characters, fun sidequests, and fun boss fights. It felt like i live within the game. Now it's been long since i beat all the DLCs and the main story. Found another game that got my attention after a sequel was announced. Kingdom Come deliverance returned me the feelings i had with RDR2, maybe even more as i spent the first 20 hours exploring the world for the views and treasures before even doing any sidequests.
I can highly recommend "Enderal". Those who loved the Witcher 3 would surely love this game as well. It wipes the floor with the shallow Skyrim it came from. In my Opinion the story of Enderal is even better than that of the Witcher because to me it hits closer to home. Lets you reflect things in real life. But maybe that's just me. Anyways you should give this best ever mod/total conversion a try
So many people forget that a soundtrack is almost as important as graphics, story, characters etc. A good soundtrack and really pull you into the game. A great soundtrack can make you feel like you’re actually there living the game it’s self. Witcher 3 is definitely one of those games with a soundtrack that makes you feel alive in the game world while playing. To me, if a game makes you stop ... and just exist for a few moments, walking around in awe, then that is a damn good game. I need to replay this game, it hasn’t even been a full year since my last play through but I miss it already.
All the great games have great soundtracks. In fact it's difficult to find a game that doesnt. Diablo, Age of Empires II, Warcrat, Oblivion, Skyrim, Sonic. The list goes on and on...
Since many examples for extraordinary soundtracks can be found as reply to your comment I feel important also to mention Mick Gordons Doom soundtrack. Even though the genre is quite different from the wild hunt score it does something very similar to the gameplay and contributes considerably to the immersion into the game.
I started the expansion right after finishing main story. Coming to Novigrad , but I knew I couldn't find Triss there again... That damn feeling was so terrible, you know Now I understood why people keep complaining about the depression after the game. Totally empty.
I got the "bad" (but somehow fitting) ending, then after all was done I was back in Kaer Morhen. All alone. I wonder it that's how getting old is like - others having kids, drifting apart - makes you grow cold inside. But I kept on, and with help from acquaintances old and new, tried to see if I truly had a heart of stone. Moving into retirement at the vineyards, I still had the memories of times past. Not the same, but enough.
Most of the Witcher 1 team was polish indeed, but the Witcher 3 is definitely multicultural. People tend to forget that big video games companies are hiring people from all over the world. But yes, thank you Polish people to have kickstarted such an amazing franchise.
Thomas Verdier it's probably for the better. Scandinavian people can probably capture the atmosphere of the land better. Scottish voice actors will have more accurate voices and phrases so the dialogues will suit the situation better. Still Polish people started the company and hired those people, they made the company what it is and the company made the game what it is - a masterpiece.
The last playthrough of this game, I knew was to be my last. I took it slow, savored the moments. Was the best that I could be, gave it everything. And I said goodbye, and will never look back. Never thought I'd be treating a bloody video game like someone that I loved and was about to lose. But that's the Witcher for you.
Jester Head me too. Way too much excited... Every bits... I finished it (1st time) trying to do as much as side quests possible, with no bombs, potions, oils and decoctions. Now I hardly play with out them
I replay the Witcher every year. I cant get enough. I remember when I first played it 2-3 years ago, I was mindblowned... This is the best game ever made. For me at least. The music, the characters, the story, the monsters, I just.. LOVE. IT.
I feel the void to this day, because there is no other game like the witcher. By playing the Witcher 3, we become part of this game, we build relationships with the characters in this game with Ciri, Dandelion, Zoltan, Vesemir, Lambert etc. This is a great story - The Witcher 1, 2, 3 also Mr. Sapkowski's books, I would like this story to never end and I would like to participate in it even until I am 70 years old. I play the witcher again and again to feel it again, but it will never be like it was the first time. The first time I couldn't tear myself away from my computer. The Witcher's world is a masterpiece. I remember the first time I played and heard this song while driving through Skellige I felt shivers down my body. I hope the CDR will make another game in the witcher's world. It is a pity that it will not be a game about Geralt, because after so many hours in the game he became a kind of inspiration for me.

I finished the game in 105 hours played and then never returned to it for like 4 years now. I picked up the witcher 3 by chance - it was on sale for £1, GOTY edition too. Didnt get round to playing it for about 3 years as it collected dust on my shelf. What a crime. An absolute master piece.The story, characters, sound track, atmosphere, dialogue, all the best Ive ever experienced. Genuine emotions felt getting lost in this beautiful world through the eyes of Geralt. A game me and my little brother will cherish forever
This game really hasn't aged at all. I got GOTY edition when it came out and finally beat it in 2017. I never came back because I knew that when I would, it would be special. I just started NG+ two days ago and it's once again the only thing I care about. Mystifying game

When this first played as the ambient backdrop music in Ard Skellige, I put the controller down just to listen a while. Sat back across my armchair and before I realised it, I'd been sat for two hours listening to it over and over again. This and the other ambient sounds, the wind, the sea lapping at the coast below the cliff, the birds and the beasts, Roach kicking his feet and snorting... It was and remains one of the best times in gaming for me. No other game has had me utterly captivated by music and ambient sounds. To be happily content to sit down for two hours and do, literally, nothing is the kind of thing that only the Witcher can do.

Witcher 3 is such an incredible game in so many ways, but when I went to Skellige and heard this for the first time. With the fog and sunshine. It was one of the most unforgettable things I've experienced in a game.

@@AeonQuasar All the games take place after the books anyway and are made up stories by CD Projekt Red. They just use and borrow characters/world/setting etc. from the books. None of the games are actually based on the books themselves so it wouldnt be too difficult for them to do another Witcher game.

Sourav Patel I agree, it's an escape, like reading a book but actually being able to interact and influence the outcome of the world your exploring. It's been phenomenal. I've never put more hours in a single player game, not to mention am replaying it and i still love it. It's to note music adds so much immersion to the surroundings. Really sets the mood, and this track of all of them might be the one that best defines the beauty of not just Ard Skellige but The Witcher 3 in it's entirety.

Velen is Poland with English influence (the pellars and cunning folk are English influence)
Novigrad is Novgorod with influences from Belgian and Dutch middle age cities.
Toussaint is France
Nilfgaard is holy roman empire with Italian and Spanish culture.
Places like "Kaer Morhen" or "Kaer Trolde" Come from the Welsh word "Caer" meaning Castle.
The whole continent is a wonderful mix of European culture from the Polish perspective
The Witcher captures the spirit of European folklore and mythology, in the same way Tolkien did with Lord of the Rings. Truly a masterpiece.

Novigrad is in fact a mix between Novgorod and Gdańsk/Danzig. Even the medieval port crane building was copypasted from Gdańsk into the game (google it up and compare with in-game graphics :) )

Skellige is indeed scandinavia and british isles but
Velen is East Poland under partitions in XVII century as well as an image of other Slavic lands at times of war and poverty (the pellar is a character straight from Adam Mickiweicz's XVIII century play "Forefather's Eve" in which he is based entirely on Polish pagan rituals and traditions In Polish it's "Guślarz". The Peller's questline is heavily inspiried on the play)
Novigrad is the archetypical rich port trade town which Sapkowski probably based on Gdańsk, Venice and Amsterdam
Nilfgaard is Germany in general, it has references to Nazi Germany, Holy Roman Empire as well as current day Germany in relation to Poland (Both Nilfgaard and Germany are using trade and cheap goods as a an economic weapon against Redania which is Poland)
Now I don't know about the names of location but I trust your analysis.
Toussaint is Southern France and Italy combined in the most beneficial way (the architecture is clearly italian but the names and culture French)

My father died from a sudden heart attack years ago while this game was new. I was playing this game and in Ard Skellig when I heard. I spent hour upon hour watching the trees blow in the wind and listening to this song. It helped me. Thank you to the composer and artists.
I was in my room playing Witcher 3, was also in Ard Skellig on little boat exploring when my mother knocked on my room door and said all teared up ,,grandma passed away in hospital''. She had pancreatic cancer at last stages when we found out about it. I was so confused at that moment trying to calm her and make her feel better. Its like a was running away from my emotions, like i didnt want to let them overtake me but it really did hit me hard bit later and i couldnt hold it anymore. Everything that we did go through toghether, everything that she did, first for me and my mother, then for rest of the familly got squeezed in one point and just disappeared. Thats why i came back to listen to this, it will always remind me of her, such a beautiful soul she was 😢

I still got around 100 hours to play but...that is too short
first thing i did when the story was over is go to Kaer Morhen,and to triss house in novigrad only to find out no one is there. i felt so empty. i played the expansions after but the feeling of despair was still there. it didnt feel right without the main characters

After I finished the game, I took my last trip to Ard Skellig, in my Grandmaster bear armor, climbed the highest mountain on the island, watched the view for a good 15 minutes, and then logged off.

I love that everywhere in the Continent, Geralt is often mistreated with disdain, insults and even pity because people only see the "mutant" side of him, and all that's bad about witchers. But in Skellige he's well respected and admired because they only care about his "warrior" side.
That's the reason why I loved blood and wine. In Toussaint everyone treats Geralt even better. They meet you, give you a freaking estate and call you "sir" and "master".

In Skillige, they're also much more observant of the old ways. They understand and appreciate a Witcher's role in society. And given the state of the Isles, they're probably just happy that a professional is finally around to deal with their monster problem. Besides, if they have a problem with you, they're more than happy to settle it with a good brawl, then move on like nothing happened.

I took Geralt to Skellig. While I was plundering the sinking ship, I heard this magnificent music, a perfect violin and voice, and I got on my horse and, with the joy of the music, I am slowly heading towards a land I do not know. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the game.

I think closest you can get to Skellige in terms of landscape - Iceland. Throw in some Scandinavian architecture and domestic culture, and you get Skellige :)

Story time: I played this game religiously from 2015-2017, and then stopped. I didn’t really think about it but it was always one of the best games I ever played.
It’s 2023, and I bought the Complete Edition on PS5, as I really wanted to play it again and see if I loved it all the same (or more).
I went to Skellige for the first time, and when I heard this music play I burst into tears. It unlocked a memory for me and I remember pausing the game with my headphones on, my brain flooded with memories of my first play through.
What a beautiful, perfect game.
I'm feeling the same way now listening to the soundtrack. I forgot how much I enjoyed this game when I played it back in 2017. It really is amazing

I’m 42 years old and have fallen in love with many games over the years. But none have captivated me as much as this. The world, the characters, and of course the beautiful soundtrack. 200 plus hours spent, and still wish for more. A true masterpiece of game design and musical composing. He bought the game and currently he's finishing the Assassin's creed Odyssey and then he'll probably start with the Witcher. I'm sure he'll love it. I play the Witcher for the second time now. I have been playing video games for about 30 years. I have played through some of the greatest games ever made. THIS is by far the most complete experience ever created. After 10 years I’m still playing this game. That first time when you come to Skellige, the emptiness of Kaer Morhen, the lively streets of Novigrad, the dangers awaiting you in the woods. The first real mission where you hunt the griffin with Vesemir, all acompanied by this soundtrack. Truly a masterpiece of a game, would give anything to experience it for the first time.
last week I went trekking into higher Himalayas...upon reaching the summit I listened to this music and it made the whole experience 10x better...sitting atop of 14000ft high mountain.. listening to this while being surrounded by snow capped mountains ...it was out of this world...something that I will remember for the rest of my life.

@drew bell sure.. but skyrim did a few things better than the witcher actually. For example cutscenes. It's just cutscene aftet cutscene after cutscene. Whereas in skyrim you're still in the game while in dialogue. The witcher 3 is just not that nice to play a second or third time which sucks. But overall the witcher is far superior of course and it's my favorite game

I heard this masterpiece today on the 27/06/23. It makes me somehow think back to simpler times as a kid. It is not as though times were better then, just simpler and less complex, you had a sense of freedom and no fear that was powerful before responsibility came into mind. I hope we all move on and improve on our own journeys through this adventure we call life.

Scandinavia + Scotland... Seriously man, Skyrim wettest dream is to be like Skellig. CD projekt nailed with perfection the authentic "far north" feeling, at least the themed on most people minds. Who doesn't like the scottish accent? What fan of medieval fantasy didn't like the Vikings? Skyrim tried and succeeded to bring some of this, but Skellig is the perfect recreation of all the good things of north europe.
The world is so authentic, Witcher 3 is the best medieval themed game of alltimes, no question. Fantasy and reality alike, no game has this feelings and personality.

TheKeyser94 skellige didn't feel so large to me. Only if you consider the ocean as an active portion of the map. And yeah, Irish and Scottish feels the same to me. But there are some other accents that is very distinctive even for people like me. For example, Australians has one of the most bizarre accents in this planet, lol

Also, Scotland and Ireland share many, many common things from our cultures, language, love of freedom etc. My Family moved to Scotland from Ireland in the 1700's for instance.
To al those speaking of depression after the game is over: now with all this time in quarantine, play again, but this time, savor every moment, play every quest you can find, do every contract because this game is truly the greatest experience ever created. Don’t just rush the main story, this game is at its best just taking a few hours between main missions to just explore and come across things you’ve never seen.

Just Played w1 and w2 and now playing w3 . All games for the first time . And enjoyed all of them , even w1 was amazing . W3 is brutally good , not rushing it, just savoring everything slowly, not even fast travel, even not using horse so much lately.

the only bad part...is combat itself. the lore, the landscapes, the music are perfect. but movement and gameplay have aged the wrong way (and were bad also years ago.)
i dont know why but the Witcher 3 feels so much like a personal experience, when i listen to these soundtracks, i feel as though im the only person in the worlds that played it, its both a beautiful feeling and makes me sad at the same time, i want to share this experience with someone.

Well it's probably because it is for the most part your quest, you're the only one who made your combination of choices throughout the game's story. Everyone's experience with this game will always be unique, even if it's slight.
One of the few other games where the experience and soundtrack have given me this feeling is Disco Elysium. Check it out if you haven’t. One of the greatest RPGs in the history of gaming IMO.
After about 30 hours play, it dawned on me when just strolling along in the nature of Ard Skellig that this was more than just a mere game. The music moved me in a way no other game did, I actually welled up a bit and got tears in my eyes. Nothing action-filled happened, I just felt a serene calm take me while taking in the landscape and feeling the history and culture of the islands. Incredible that a god damn computer game could evoke true emotions on that level.
It’s the music my friend. Music evokes emotions no visual cues can fill. That’s why the best scenes in movies typically have great music to accompany it. Imagine if Star Wars had a generic theme song. The Witcher 3 had everything going for it but the music really pushed it over into that otherworldly category where you think you are living in that time period.

+_M4R1JN _ I love Skyrim (Well, not as much as Oblivion, but still). I think what gives this game the edge is that it feels more authentic. Skyrim's conversations and characters felt hollow and empty, but with TW3, I felt like I lost family members when the game ended.
Skyrim is not even close to Witcher 3. It had shitty combat , shitty quests , shitty characters , shitty graphics. Witcher 3 was perfect.

When I first saw the beauty of Kaer Morhen and heard the Baron's story in my first playthrough, I almost cried. I'm a diehard Skyrim fan, but this game...moved me. There are no words in the dictionary to describe the compelling and concerned feelings I had for The Witcher's characters, its world, and Geralt himself. This game defines art, in every sense of the word. I truly thought that Bethesda's Skyrim could not be broken, but CD Projekt RED may have shattered it into the depths of Oblivion with The Witcher 3.

Playing it for the second time, and I did a lot more than I did the first time around, but it really didn't compare to the first time I played. But going back to Toussaint, that was incredible. The colours and the scenery are perfect, especially for settling down with Yennefer.

But on their own both cultures stayed the same and are the source of their own cultures as both were extremely isolated in their beginnings.

Nope, it's a legitimate language. I'm from the outer hebrides which is where we predominantly speak it... Was actually quite surprised when I came across this while listening to Witcher OST for the first time, as not many people in the world are aware there is a scots gaelic different from irish gaelic.
I respect the fact they also didn't drift too far away from the genre culturally, gaelic is traditionally sung with a soft, straight tone with no vibrato.
I will never have a gaming experience like it ever again, RDR2 or the Mass effect series are the only ones that have even come close to the feeling of playing this for the first time.
Same here... I remember feeling empty because RDR2 ended, had nothing else to do but explore the world and find some sidequests i missed. Then a comment comparing Witcher 3 to RDR 2 came to my attention, so i bought the game with no hesitation.
It was impressive. Really. It surpassed my expectation of a decent 2015 game, it's extraordinary! The beautiful cities, memorable characters, fun sidequests, and fun boss fights. It felt like i live within the game.
Now it's been long since i beat all the DLCs and the main story. Found another game that got my attention after a sequel was announced. Kingdom Come deliverance returned me the feelings i had with RDR2, maybe even more as i spent the first 20 hours exploring the world for the views and treasures before even doing any sidequests.
I had to quit mass effect 1, booted up blood and wine immediatly after. Brutal mog. Not even close
I can highly recommend "Enderal". Those who loved the Witcher 3 would surely love this game as well. It wipes the floor with the shallow Skyrim it came from.
In my Opinion the story of Enderal is even better than that of the Witcher because to me it hits closer to home. Lets you reflect things in real life. But maybe that's just me.

So many people forget that a soundtrack is almost as important as graphics, story, characters etc. A good soundtrack and really pull you into the game. A great soundtrack can make you feel like you’re actually there living the game it’s self. Witcher 3 is definitely one of those games with a soundtrack that makes you feel alive in the game world while playing. To me, if a game makes you stop ... and just exist for a few moments, walking around in awe, then that is a damn good game. I need to replay this game, it hasn’t even been a full year since my last play through but I miss it already.
All the great games have great soundtracks. In fact it's difficult to find a game that doesnt.

Since many examples for extraordinary soundtracks can be found as reply to your comment I feel important also to mention Mick Gordons Doom soundtrack. Even though the genre is quite different from the wild hunt score it does something very similar to the gameplay and contributes considerably to the immersion into the game.
Witcher 1 for me was beautiful
I started the expansion right after finishing main story. Coming to Novigrad , but I knew I couldn't find Triss there again... That damn feeling was so terrible, you know

I got the "bad" (but somehow fitting) ending, then after all was done I was back in Kaer Morhen. All alone.

Poland production
Most of the Witcher 1 team was polish indeed, but the Witcher 3 is definitely multicultural. People tend to forget that big video games companies are hiring people from all over the world. But yes, thank you Polish people to have kickstarted such an amazing franchise.

Thomas Verdier it's probably for the better. Scandinavian people can probably capture the atmosphere of the land better. Scottish voice actors will have more accurate voices and phrases so the dialogues will suit the situation better. Still Polish people started the company and hired those people, they made the company what it is and the company made the game what it is - a masterpiece.

You know a song is good when you can listen to it on repeat for 40 hours on and you're still excited when you hear it.
The last playthrough of this game, I knew was to be my last. I took it slow, savored the moments. Was the best that I could be, gave it everything. And I said goodbye, and will never look back. Never thought I'd be treating a bloody video game like someone that I loved and was about to lose. But that's the Witcher for you.

I replay the Witcher every year. I cant get enough.
I remember when I first played it 2-3 years ago, I was mindblowned... This is the best game ever made. For me at least. The music, the characters, the story, the monsters, I just.. LOVE. IT.

I feel the void to this day, because there is no other game like the witcher. By playing the Witcher 3, we become part of this game, we build relationships with the characters in this game with Ciri, Dandelion, Zoltan, Vesemir, Lambert etc.
This is a great story - The Witcher 1, 2, 3 also Mr. Sapkowski's books, I would like this story to never end and I would like to participate in it even until I am 70 years old. I play the witcher again and again to feel it again, but it will never be like it was the first time. The first time I couldn't tear myself away from my computer. The Witcher's world is a masterpiece.
I remember the first time I played and heard this song while driving through Skellige I felt shivers down my body. I hope the CDR will make another game in the witcher's world. It is a pity that it will not be a game about Geralt, because after so many hours in the game he became a kind of inspiration for me.

dude your comment made me tear up. i miss this game so much, im holding as hard as a can to not play it again. I finished the game in 105 hours played and then never returned to it for like 4 years now. Im waiting as along as possible because im hoping i will forget most of the stuff, and the next re-play will feel like the first time again. :)
i know sounds like im weird, but i was really attached to this story, my favourite game of all time.
I picked up the witcher 3 by chance - it was on sale for £1, GOTY edition too. Didnt get round to playing it for about 3 years as it collected dust on my shelf. What a crime. An absolute master piece.The story, characters, sound track, atmosphere, dialogue, all the best Ive ever experienced. Genuine emotions felt getting lost in this beautiful world through the eyes of Geralt. A game me and my little brother will cherish forever

This game really hasn't aged at all. I got GOTY edition when it came out and finally beat it in 2017. I never came back because I knew that when I would, it would be special. I just started NG+ two days ago and it's once again the only thing I care about. Mystifying game

When this first played as the ambient backdrop music in Ard Skellige, I put the controller down just to listen a while. Sat back across my armchair and before I realised it, I'd been sat for two hours listening to it over and over again. This and the other ambient sounds, the wind, the sea lapping at the coast below the cliff, the birds and the beasts, Roach kicking his feet and snorting... It was and remains one of the best times in gaming for me. No other game has had me utterly captivated by music and ambient sounds. To be happily content to sit down for two hours and do, literally, nothing is the kind of thing that only the Witcher can do.

Witcher 3 is such an incredible game in so many ways, but when I went to Skellige and heard this for the first time. With the fog and sunshine. It was one of the most unforgettable things I've experienced in a game.
Witcher 3 ruined me. Cant play any other RPG when I have such a HUGE standard for RPG now.

@@loganbissett1392 That really depends. Conflict with Andrzej, no more new stories (have to make everything from scratch) and no real ownership to the Witcher saga. I highly doubt there will be more new Witcher games other than remakes and maybe one desperate failed attempt.
@@AeonQuasar that's sad man. I'm only 17 Years old and got a lifetime ahead of me ( hopefully ) but I'm not ready without least 4-5 more witcher games. These just fuel my life and my emotions and take me to a fictional world of Adventures which otherwise we cant experience!
@@AeonQuasar All the games take place after the books anyway and are made up stories by CD Projekt Red. They just use and borrow characters/world/setting etc. from the books. None of the games are actually based on the books themselves so it wouldnt be too difficult for them to do another Witcher game.
Star Wars, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Dragon Age should all use Witcher 3 as a template from now on.

Sourav Patel I agree, it's an escape, like reading a book but actually being able to interact and influence the outcome of the world your exploring. It's been phenomenal. I've never put more hours in a single player game, not to mention am replaying it and i still love it. It's to note music adds so much immersion to the surroundings. Really sets the mood, and this track of all of them might be the one that best defines the beauty of not just Ard Skellige but The Witcher 3 in it's entirety.

Skellige is the best place in the game for me (Toussant and Kaer Morhan are close though).
Not to mention, the Last Wish quest with Yen was so cool too, reinforced with this music.
