I'm still thinking this is an anthology series. 'The War Between the Land and Sea' is the title of the pilot, with the other episodes focussing on other villains
As someone who prefers Torchwood over the main show, this is exactly what I want to hear! I love Martha and Gwen and I feel like both of them can easily slot into the plot again.
Hahahaha. That would mean Russell actually having to think about the pish he's writing, as opposed to just saying, it's magic bro, don't think about it.
I think the title is going to be about Martha being torn between UNIT (The Land, London) and Torchwood (The Sea/Cardiff), and how they go about dealing with alien invasions.
Let's see David Tennant and Martha fight "the Swarm"/"Lizard" with bow and Arrows from "Blink"/the Weeping Angels when Sally Spartow, gives him the dossier!???
You’d assumed five or six episodes? I’d assumed a single one-off, this is awesome! And I’m with you - The War Between The Land And the Sea sounds more like a subtitle rather than the full title itself.
The War Between The Land and The Sea is a really cool title if you ask me. It kind of sounds like a Prog album from someone like Deam Theater or Porcupine Tree or Barren Earth or Ningen Isu, just to name a couple!!! 😀
I don't think War Between the Land and the Sea is the title. Its a red herring- Blue Harvest or House of Harkness kind of thing. I think this is the Unit show (or one of them) around the non-London Unit team who deal with goings on around the UK
My only hope is they have the restraint not to bring back David Tennant, while there's drama potential between the Doctor and Martha, I'd think it's more interesting if Ncuti's Doctor had to face the fallout for his past life's mistake. Plus the secondary cast really need time in the spotlight to better flesh out the unit family, David's presence will just steal away the spotlight which he doesn't need.
Yeah the only times I thought it was worth it were end of dot and bubble and when ruby leaves, the rest including finale screaming, didn't really buy it. @@chrispomphrett4283
This might be the 'enemies' stories that floated about. Some background to flesh out some creatures before they met the Doctor, to see what drove the Cybermen to their Salvation/Damnation of emotionless upgrades. Maybe Silurians gene-eering themselves for life below the waves to escape those monkeys that are breeding so fast, and spreading so widely.... I'm eager to see where they take things, with a tighter budget. Cheapness does seem to drive the best from the writing in Doctor Who, when they can't afford extensive CGI, beyond the SJA levels. It's the writing where the show stands or falls. It gives the actors something to inspire and emote.
Honestly Martha getting a spinoff is the most deserved thing not just because she has gone on to do some great acting, was basically the lead of the last few episodes of her season and has some great potential for being a connecting character to bring in the spin offs together but mostly so they can make it up to her for ditching her love interest for Mickey for absolutely no reason. If they feel the need to address it they could make it that Mickey was just pretending to be with her in official UNIT stuff to keep her husband safe from threats or something. Also if they bring in Gwen and hopefully some SJA rep somewhere, I can see Rani getting along with Martha as she has taken over for Sarah Jane or Luke and his husband working with her though I think that he should meet up with 15 and they can reveal that his and Sanjay's kid is named after Sarah, but they need to include Class.
I'm actually hoping to see some collaboration between humans and sea devils this time around. Perhaps different factions of sea devils (and humans, for that matter) working at cross-purposes? It would be a very positive and hopeful way to deal with the issue of climate change (or a metaphor for that, at least) within the mythology of Doctor Who.
If I’m being honest, I think I need more information about this spin off to get me excited. I love Martha, but that’s the only thing that interests me. I don’t like to be negative, so I’m going to keep an open mind about it. It probably won’t be out until late 2025 anyway lol
I liked Warriors of the Deep... apart from the Mercer. The rest of it I was fine with. The Mercer was an example of your writing not taking into account what is possible for you to depict believably. I'm up for it, I like 300 minutes of show That's only like about 50 min less than we got w/Series 14. Didn't Russell say the only bad time for Doctor WHO is when it isn't on the air? Or something like that.
the title might just be a place holder? sounds more like a UNIT spin-off now we have more details. edit: maybe they’ll do a few UNIT mini-series? 'UNIT: The War Between the Land and the Sea' and so on…?
Seems that wordy and unwieldy titles are the “in” thing nowadays! ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, ‘Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ 😂 Can’t wait for this! Especially if we can get something ‘Children of Earth’ level with this format!
Martha Jones! 🎉🎉 I'm down w/ the idea of Martha headingcup her own team in a small town, and there's an episode featuring the Sea Devils. That makes more sense than an entire show centered on the Sea Devils. Love that UNIT is also involved. It's a great shoutout to Martha's past as a member of the organization. 🤞 that Martha will get to encounter the Doctor again. I would absolutely love to see how Freema and Ncuti would play all that history btwn the characters. The Doctor didn't treat Martha as well as he should have, and i would be thrilled to see how things would play out.
Martha's return will bring back some old nostalgic fans, but I also don't believe that it will sell really well. It will be most likely just Class 2.0 but of course I could be wrong.
Say what you will about the quality of the season, but doctor who is still making a lot of money through merch sales and selling tickets to events. It is in no way a dying brand.

I agree about the title. It’s not exactly snappy. It also sounds a bit naff. Hopefully it’s just a working title.
As someone who prefers Torchwood over the main show, this is exactly what I want to hear! I love Martha and Gwen and I feel like both of them can easily slot into the plot again.
Weirdly more excited by this than season 2...
I'd love it if maybe they can establish more of how the "supernatural" is affecting the world. Like what Kate alluded to in 73 Yards.

I wonder if it'll be pitched more towards older viewers like Torchwood, younger viewers like SJA or aim for the same as the main show.
