This diagnosis is for a washer making a rattling sound, which can be heard during the agitating and spin cycle. The washer would drain during spin, but there was a problem with the transmission not working. This common style of washer has a motor that has two axles. One axle is directly connected to the drain pump, so it allows the washer to drain. The second axle is connected to the transmission with a sacrificial coupling. If the coupling has broken, then the drum will not turn in the spin or agitate cycles. It may barely work in one cycle, or it may just sound like the washer motor is running with no load. In any case, use this video to check the washer motor coupling.
In this case, the transmission coupling was rounded and sheared the spindle, ruining the motor. Хобби
I just fixed mine, had a kids sock stuck inside the pump. Grateful for the sock instead of something more expensive. : )
And that’s exactly what mine is doing I did replace the washer dogs which were like super rubbery and broken but it sounds exactly the same. I’m gonna give it a try hopefully it works .
Thanks for this post and description. We have a 1980 Kenmore washing machine that does not agitate on some cycles and hums or click when not agitating. It also makes loud noises near spinning cycle. Could it be the same ussue?
it is a Roper Washer By EA Inc
Motor Hums It Sounds Like A Lawn Mower.
So you need a whole new motor then?
Mines humming?
Mine fills then does nothing...can hear slight buzz? Any ideas????
seems like parts and labor for this repair would total up more than buying a whole new washer??
NOT trying to be a smart-ass, thanks for the video
Depends on if you like the washer - these aren't made anymore, and they're much tougher than the new ones. That's why folks, like yourself, search around for info on how to fix them. Good luck!
Exactly I won't buy a brand new washer. I keep fixing my old one with videos that help me. I've got an issue now but mine doesn't sound like this. So moving to the next video. Thanks for making videos keep it up!
They always show the easy fixes.......my couplers good. It will fill and then do nothing. Its not the pump.
