I understand trying to avoid a lawsuit, but it's as clear as day one who the basis for that character is. Look at Balrog and Mike Tyson. Hell, in Japan, Balrog is named M. Bison.

Yeah in street fighter 3rd strike doesn't Andore and someone do a faceoff and it meant to look like the Wrestlemania 3 stare down between Hulk Hogan and Andre? Thought Edi.E was based on the Big Bossman as well.

The first time I ever saw Final Fight was in an arcade in Atlanta...they had it on this special station with three podiums that acted as controller panels and the screen was literally ten feet across and six feet high...the characters on the screen were HUGE...it was love at first sight...

"Andore is not based on André the Giant"
Yeah sure, and Boxer from Street Fighter is not based on Mike Tyson.
Don't believe everything game designers say, people. They have lawsuits to avoid, you know.

      @emanuelespinoza9325 4 года назад +8

PatmanQC even said the same thing on his video. Sorry, but no matter what the designer tries to say, nobody's buying it. It's totally obvious that the character is based on Andre the Giant.

Exactly... Why I barely mess with the likes of DYKGaming these days. PC as hell to keep that healthy PR relationship for sponsorships from the companies they are covering.
"This video is sponsored by Nintendo..." - DYK
"We're not Nintendo fanboys." - Also, DYK
      Lol.
Sorry, saw an opportunity and had to express myself...
      The point in relation:
Their vids are littered with the coverups (like these) that they are fed.. so what's the point of watching them?

    • @Dargonhuman
      @Dargonhuman 3 года назад +3

Amazing isn't it? Back then showing a woman getting hit by a man was the worst thing the feminist movement could think of. These days, the feminists would complain that they changed a woman's role to a man's (implying they're now okay with a woman getting beat up by a man) then complain that her outfit was overly sexualized while the trans community would be complaining about a trans woman getting beaten up by a cis man.
That's the problem with pandering to specific "rights movements", once you start that ball rolling, it's almost impossible to stop it, and even more impossible to keep it from rolling from one controversy to another. It's getting to the point where all you can do is just create the content you want and ignore them when they inevitably start complaining as there's no way to please them.

@@slopesgameroom , I am not sure if you covered this little series of coincidences and parallels in your video, but I am more than convinced that there are a lot of parallels between Mike Haggar and real life former Marine turned professional wrestler turned government official Buford Pusser. Here are their comparisons.
Mike Haggar - former professional wrestler for the CWA, or Capcom Wrestling Association.
Buford Pusser - former professional wrestler that wrestled around the Chicago area, possibly for the the NWA, or National Wrestling Alliance, and its Chicago branch that it had at the time, (which later became the IWA, or International Wrestling Association), among other smaller organizations that have not been named that have since possibly been lost to the sands of time. (NWA-Chicago, which eventually became the IWA, also later became arguably one of the biggest, as well as most influential, professional wrestling organizations in the 1970s and 1980s, namely, the AWA, or the American Wrestling Association.)
      Mike Haggar - 6' 8', 297 lbs.
      Buford Pusser - 6' 6", 250 lbs.
Mike Haggar - usually has a close cropped haircut, save for his appearance in Final Fight 3/Tough.
Buford Pusser - yes, he also has a close cropped haircut.
Mike Haggar - is a widower.
Buford Pusser - also later became a widower.
Mike Haggar - has a daughter.
Buford Pusser- had a daughter and two sons, of which one of the sons was coincidentally named Mike.
Mike Haggar - fought government corruption in a big city.
Buford Pusser - fought government corruption in a small rural county.
Mike Haggar - fought the corrupt cops in his local police department, as well as the Mad Gear, Skull Cross, Thugs, Jersey Thugs, Punx, Glowheads, and numerous other gangs, as well as people, in wrestling rings, bar fights, and underground fight clubs, both before and after his professional wrestling career.
Buford Pusser - fought many professional wrestlers, may have also dabbled in occasional bar fights, as well as underground fight clubs, and fought the corrupt local police department, sheriff's department, pimps, prostitution rings, moonshine (illegal alcohol) manufacturing rings, drug cartels, the Dixie Mafia, and the State Line Mafia.
Mike Haggar - fought corrupt cops in the police department where he lived (Edi E and Dave, among potentially others).
Buford Pusser - fought corrupt cops in both a local police department and a sheriff's department (James Dickey and several other corrupt cops and sheriff's deputies).
Mike Haggar - recruited people, both within his local government, as well as citizens, to help him fight the police corruption and gangs that plagued where he lived.
Buford Pusser - also recruited people, both within his sheriff's department, as well as civilians, to help him fight the police corruption and gangs that plagued where he lived.
Mike Haggar - has a penchant for using weapons in fights.
Buford Pusser - also had a penchant for using weapons in fights.
Mike Haggar - became a mayor.
Buford Pusser - became a constable, a police officer, and a sheriff, then tried to run for a town mayor, and, presumably later, a county mayor, but was possibly assassinated before he could run for the town mayor position.
Mike Haggar - lost a re-election bid (to become a mayor in his case).
Buford Pusser - lost a re-election bid (to become a sheriff in his case).
Yeah, there are a scary amount of parallels between both people. Also, yeah, Mike Haggar is a Yankee version of Buford Pusser.

@9:35 The official figures for the Genesis/Sega CD are 61 colors (16 background and 15 each for the foreground, sprite, and window layer) out of a palette of 512. In fact, the Sega CD had tricks for drawing 256 colors onscreen at one time, and Shadow/Highlight Mode made it possible to access a palette of 3,375 colors, as seen later in Toy Story. Using color mixing and the higher resolution 320x448 interlaced mode, the Genesis could've kept going with decent arcade ports all the way to the release of the PlayStation 2 in 2000. Sadly, SEGA of Japan didn't see it that way.

I mean come on, he had a mate called Andre who was also huge with the distinguishable mop of hair? Hmmm. More than likely it was a cagey answer as they probably didn't ask permission to use his image.

As of the time of this video, the official stance of Capcom was that Capcom did not have an official stance on Poison. The history honestly isn't *that* complicated, but rather has been made complicated by shifting stances. The brief version, covering a few decades and some key figures, follows:
Akira Yasuda created Poison and Roxy, female characters, for Final Fight. Yasuda has stated that, despite Capcom's later decisions, he created the characters to be women and he will always view them as such. During the game's (Japanese) development, Capcom had become seriously concerned about the climate in America.
Capcom of Japan decided to make Posion and Roxy into newhalfs. While some blame this on Capcom of America, or say it was only Capcom of America, this was Capcom of Japan's stance. This is confirmed by character concept art for Poison and Roxy (which has newhalf written on it in katakana) as well as materials such as the Japanese manual for the Super Famicom port of Final Fight.
Around the time of Final Fight Revenge, the common story was that Capcom of Japan and Capcom of America only disagreed on whether Poison was pre-op (Japan) or post-op (America). This was restated over a decade later by Yoshinori Ono, who was in charge of the Street Fighter franchise by that point.
That brings us to 2011 and the development of Street Fighter x Tekken. A win quote where Ryu and Chun-Li stated that Poison was not a "real woman" blew up into a story. Capcom was receiving criticism and was in serious damage control mode. Damage control was so serious that, when an interviewer asked Ono about the controversy, another Capcom representative took over to state how Capcom was working closing with GLAAD to address anything that might be taken as offensive. In this interview, Ono stated that Capcom's official stance was that Capcom did not have an official stance on whether or not Poison was transgender. Ono admitted that Capcom was intentionally trying to appease everyone with this stance. Of note though is that Ono's claim that this stance was always Capcom's stance, quite bluntly, was a lie. Not only is there plenty of evidence that Poison had previously officially been transgender, Ono himself had four years prior stated it himself (when he reconfirmed the country split on pre/post-op status.)

  • @InfernalMonsoon

On the topic of Poison, I'm confident she's purely female. That's how she was originally envisioned and the whole transgender thing was really just a one shot step to make her an "acceptable" character to beat up in the west at the time. I just don't see the original creators going out of their way to keep that whole idea going especially these days unless they're deliberately leaving it up to the player's interpretation for the sake of discussion which is an aspect I've always enjoyed in gaming topics. If we were talking about Kane from Nier on the other hand... Well, I wouldn't know what to think on that.

Nope, on *a* concept art illustration, and the game's director stated that was added as part of a failed attempt to appease Nintendo of America by saying the apparently female character didn't count because she used to be a dude. The false claim is that it occurred after the game's release, when it was actually changed during development.

I remember finding this in an arcade as a kid. At this point I had Streets of Rage at home, and thought this was a knock off. It came first in my world, therefore it must be first for everyone. Regardless, it felt like I was playing a GI Joe cartoon, punching my way through may quarters and my mother's patience.

  •  7 лет назад +11

I'm going to have to disagree that the only way to experience Final Fight at its best is to emulate the arcade version via MAME or something similar, I'd argue that the arcade emulated version on the PS2's Capcom Classics is a really nice version too.

I wish they would make a new 2d beat em up final fight in hd. Not a remake but a entirely new final fight game. Final fight was there for me in a time that was horrible. I spent a Christmas in 90 just pumping quarters into the game at a convenience store. It kept me mind off things. I think I had beat that game that day countless times. Needless to say final fight is one of a few video games that are really important to me. Thanks for making this history of video.

Two big problems with this video: It doesn't mention how Final Fight 3 had entire randomized levels and branching paths to help replayability even more (seriously there's like 4 alternate levels in the game, full featured ones) but also you failed to bring up the HORRIBLE attempt at bringing back Final Fight in 3D with a plot about zombies in the early 2000s. It wasn't pretty.

Gotta list of characters out of movies that surprisingly resemble much of the (Final fight) characters list out of order: "romero" from the 1981 john carpenter film escape from new york! "Eva" from the 1987 peter George film surf Nazi's must die! "Fender" from the 1989 film cyborg note that even some of the minor enemy roles resembles some of the underlings as well in cyborg ! That's pretty much what i was able too gather up from my 80s movies collection 😎🤔📝🍻

Street Fighter and Final Fight are both set within the same universe. The original Street Fighter and Final Fight 1 both take place at the same time. Also FF2 is set the same time as Street Fighter Alpha 2 and the reason Guy wasn't in FF2 is because he was pursuing Bison in SFA2.

The original Final Fight takes place in 1989, and Street Fighter two is a bit later.
Actually if you pay attention, SFA is BEFORE SF2.
So, it doens't take place at the same time.
However there is some contradictions saying the Alpha is BEFORE the 1989. So....
