My interest in the series has also been re-sparked in playing the N-Sane Trilogy. The first thing to hit me going back through Crash 1 was how damn hard the game gets. Much like you my favorite in the series is 2 and I have fonder memories of that one over the other two, but I still love those too. I got into Crash as a teenager just a bit after getting me PS1, which was the first console I ever saved my own money to buy. Mostly due in part to losing my mind over Final Fantasy VII and of all games, Armored Core (That'd make for an interesting Complete History.) By the time I got a PS1 Crash and several of the other big early PS1 games were in the "Greatest Hits" line as it were in the states. So I'd brought around $60 with me to the local toy store and instead of coming out with a brand new game I opted to buy 3 Greatest Hits games. That got me Twisted Metal, Tekken and Crash Bandicoot. I liked Crash a lot, enough to buy the second game at full price. Crash 2 did not disappoint. The rest, as you've just shown, is history. Thanks for sharing the memories, amigo. Great vid, this one had to have been a lot of work to put together.
I apologize in advance if my comment crashes your RAM; Crash apparently took inspiration from Warner Bros cartoons like the Tasmanian Devil, it's fairly evident in the creative death animations. Crash 3 has a level called Rings of Power, which of course is a reference to one of Naughty Dog's earlier games. Twinsanity was originally a very different concept that included space travel but was scrapped when another game released with a very similar concept, that game was Ratchet and Clank. Twinsanity had to meet a deadline which is why it has a few bugs and scrapped content, some of which still exists in the files. If you want more context on what's missing from Twinsanity, I would suggest BetaM, the dude's an absolute master at the game. Titans wasn't open world but Mutant was. Mutant was to Titans what Crash 2 was to Crash 1, an improvement, I still missed the infinite spin attack and Aku Air Grind from Titans though. Of course Warped had crazy variety with it's levels, at least until Crash 4 came out, just don't go for completion unless you have a lot of time on your hands. It'll take you a while since you need to collect; 480 gems (each level has 6 gems, the first 3 are for collecting 80% of the wumpa fruit, another gem for simply finding it, another gem for breaking all the boxes some of which are hidden better than the hidden gem for some baffling reason and another for dying less than 3 times. Doesn't sound too bad right? Well there's 38 levels, and a mode called Inverted Mode, where you have to do it all again anyway), 38 platinum relics (good luck), 21 flashback platinum relics (unlocked through flashback tapes, in order to get the tapes to access these levels, you need to reach them in a regular level without dying once), and 38 insanely perfect relics (these are earned by not dying at all in each level, yeah good luck) all this for the final 106%. Your reward for 106%? A cutscene that's less than 30 seconds long. Yup. Perfectly fine game, if you're not going for 106% that is, because if you are, you're either very dedicated, or a masochist. Also I can't mention Crash without mentioning Caddicarus, that guy, in my opinion, is the most dedicated Crash fan I've ever seen, and not just because he made a tier list of Crash's ass throughout the games. No I'm serious, he did that. But also because he got every single platinum relic in the series, any game with relics, he got all the platinums, this included the ones in Crash 4 and Nitro Fueled, it's well over 200 relics. He also 106%'d Crash 4 on top of that, so he's the King of Crash at this point as far as I'm concerned. Gold is the requirement for completion in most games, platinum doesn't get you anything except for bragging rights, unless you play Crash 4 where platinum is a requirement for full completion, a step above that are dev relics, which get you nothing at all. Oh and the most recent game for Crash at this moment is Crash On The Run, an endless runner on the app store, but from what I heard, it's not exactly perfect, then again what is perfect anyway? So glad my boy got a comeback in 2017, and official sequel in 2020, can't wait to see where they take him next.
How is it that someone so well versed in video game history still manages to fuck up and say "Jak and Dexter?" I've never been able to understand how this happens so frequently and isn't even caught upon editing to be fixed.
My man. I too was a Genesis to PSX transition kid. I think my first PSX game was either Viewpoint, or Doom. Then Tekken 2, and Crash 1 came into my life.
Love your videos. Love your editing style. Love the way you cover every little detail. But most of all I love the passion you have. Your passion for these games is just infectious. I already look forward to you releasing new complete histories from Slope's Game room. Cheers!
I had Tag Team Racing lying in a drawer unopened for 'round four years. Bought it as a potential multiplayer game to get my girlfriend hooked to PS-games. (She is a killer NES-era Mario gamer, she still kicks my arse in most side scrollers..) Well i forgot it existed until i made a deep survey looking for a linking cable for a headset. Did not find the cable but i hooked up TTR.. I liked it. Strange, loony, vivid and it did feel like a Crash game to me. It felt as a even-better-sequel-potential game. Wrath of Cortex was one of the three games we got on Christmas along our Mk.I PS2. (That by some Biblical miracle is still functional today, albeit a cooling fan that has a louder sound than a vacuum cleaner and the only game it runs without any issues is ironically Crash 3 Warped Wrath Of Cortex has one of my favourite soundtracks in videogames overall, and the bgm looping is seamless in that game. Yesterday i rigged up Angry Birds on the PS3 for the first time in years (oh god nothing makes you age faster than feeling nostalgic about a game that should not be old enough to feel nostalgic...😢), maybe i'll finally trick my dame to try TTR after that. Massive investement as it was! It did cost 7:99€ for Crist sakes!
I would argue that Crash is a much better game than Mario64 as playing the origonal a few years ago I never ran into as many wonky camera angles as 64 and the games controls just feel a lot tigter and the level design is a lot more creative as well as the bosses and the zany chill tropical style of the games world. In Mario 64 you get the same old shy guys, goombas, koopas, and fight bowser a few times and the settings are about as origonal and the open level design that made 64 special was much better in Sunshine(the best mario game ever imo) since that game had so much going on in it's levels and beyond that it just had so much gameplay variety and controlled so much better idk why anyone would want to go back to 64 over that unless they have a ds and want something for on the go.
mario has fully xplorable enviroments a lot harder to pull off than fixed camera corridor levels, also control wise mario wipes the floor with crash, the sheer freedom and fun of mario 64 run and jump is still the gold standard in the genre, marginally better texture and model work mostly trough cheating does not make it better than mario
BG Yeah which is actually kinda strange since the 64 was the most powerful console out of its generation but the cartridges they used downplayed the consoles power compared to the discs that the PlayStation used
This is probably the best retrospective of the Crash Bandicoot series as a whole I have seen on RUclips. :) I'll be honest, while I do have lots to say with the the first 3 Crash games, I haven't played many Crash games outside of the main ones people think of. And even ones like Wrath of Cortex I think are okay and Twinsanity is something else I will say. Probably my personal fave Crash game is Crash 3 Warped even with the multiple gameplay styles. Though, I have been replaying the games via the Crash N Sane Trilogy so that might change idk. But I will say, long live the Bandicoot for sure. :)
I heard Naughty Dog were the ones threatening to drop the project entirely because Universal kept pushing stupid names like Wuzzle, and Universal got mad at them for hyping themselves personally at the game's showing despite Universal's attempts to keep Naughty Dog's branding on the case confined to the bare minimum.
entirely justified on Naughty Dog's part. You should always give credit where it's due and let creatives do what they do best (for better or worst). Because guess who gets the blame if they were named fucking Wuzzle. It wouldn't be fucking marketing I tell you one thing.
CTR just came out for PS4 and it really takes me back to my childhood as well as the Nsane trilogy but I felt so attacked when you said crash bash wasn't good. That was the main crash bandicoot game I played as a kid growing up. The only reason I even have a PlayStation is honestly just because they remastered Crash and I will forever love the crash bandicoot name
Well done and you actually got your wish last night. Crash Team Racing HD was announced. Thank you for this and all of the great videos you put together. It’s much appreciated.
Fun fact: In Rings of Power if you hold down-left, A+B+C and start on the second controller and then turn on your Genesis, the buxom blond that greets you before the Naughty Dog logo is topless. One of the first instances of hidden nudity in a game that I can remember.
True, but as a result, Crash Bandicoot levels are smaller and more tightly packed in. Mario in contrast, while sacrificing graphics, could have larger and more open levels.
*high fives himself* Nice. This was an amazing video, dude. I know these bigger series are always tougher to tackle, but you managed to knock it out of the park yet again with a beloved game series. Keep up the amazing work. The only note I have is I think Skylanders should've gotten some sort of nod here. He was a big part of the latest installment with him and Cortex as playable characters, and he even appeared in the TV show. I know they weren't officially Crash games, but I still wanted to mention them as I like to think they are a part of his Complete History ;D
Ahh, the old Naughty Dog. The folks that snuck in a code where if you held down the C button on your genesis controller on one of their games, the dog was replaced with a shapely nude woman.
High five for Crash! I never played the originals, I say the PS 1 era out on the PC scene but I grabbed the PS2 releases and loved them. Looks like I should head back to the horrible jewel case era and pick up those older titles.
Crash 1 is a beautiful game full stop - it's rendered bloody amazingly and I would say many modern games will struggle to maintain an impressive visual presence in comparison.
I know it'd be a monumental task, but wouldn't that be one helluva Complete History video? The Simpson's games. That'd have to be a multi-parter though. I totally can't blame you for not touching on that though. There's a LOT of them and a lot of bad ones too.
I've nevet played a Bash Crandicoot (yes) game. Of course, I'm also the guy who threw his PC into a firepit shortly after downloading the Mario 64 ROM at age 42 to see what all the fuss was about. I threw my PC into a firepit because Mario 64 wouldn't stop talking baby talk to me and treating me like a baby. I'm not a baby. So i threw my PC into the fire pit and put some more chocca-milk into my sippy cup. I'm not a baby. Fuck Mario 64, that's a baby game for babies, and that game treated me like a baby. I'm not a baby.
Okay, I'm going to disagree with you here. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is nowhere near as good as CTR. I love Mario Kart but I don't think they'll ever top the number one kart-racing game to ever exist.
I truly enjoy listening to your love of video games. A lot of times people crap on games because it's not what the originals were. Its cool to see someone judge a game on the gameplay and story not just the feelings the originals gave them and compare it.
Hey man I was wondering it when you ever going to do that the complete history of Tomb Raider can't wait to see what you got up your sleeve on that one.
On a pure technical level, Twinsanity is an obviously unfinished product. 90% of the cutscenes go absolutely nowhere, half the enemies never even tries to attack you at all, most of the audio in the in-game cut scenes are unsynced and or missing and there is a glitch around every corner. I've played the game more than I have played with myself, so I definetely know what I'm talking about. Loved it as a kid, but i have mixed feelings now...
I've noticed glitches in Twinsanity as well. That isn't the reason I don't have high favor for it, but it isn't a near-masterpiece like the video claims it to be. I really prefer Wrath of Cortex. It was my first Crash game. I only sold it off because I had done everything in it to do multiple times. Trying to go back and play the older Crash games was not enjoyable and underwhelming. The first two really hold the bane of my discontentment.
Another top vid Dan, cheers for doing these! Not sure if you were aware of the loading times in Wrath of Cortex though? The loading was this game's biggest fault by a total mile, at least on the original PS2. Took forever on startup, then round 1m between warp area and levels.. was very surprised these didn't get a mention as it's many folks' biggest gripe! Did you not play on the PS2 for your re-review?
Man, those early Crash games have aged super well. Was playing a few of them a while back. Might have to grab the remake. I had forgotten a few of the games you featured, especially some of the mobile ones. Crash of the Titans was a pretty decent one though. Do remember playing that. Have you played the Crash Bandicoot stage in Skylanders Imaginators? it's surprisingly faithful to the old games. I may have got myself the special edition of that Skylanders game in order to have the Crash Bandicoot figures.
that was amazing man. As an oldschool Bandibro I was prepared to call you out on bullshit. I couldn't find any in this video. I bow before you, that was well worth the 40 minutes!
But none of them did it. As much as I like Crash Bandicoot, Mario is still the king of platformers and with Super Mario Odyssey, he will claim that once again.
Meant to say that neither Sonic the Hedgehog or Crash Bandicoot succeeded in de-throning Mario, and they likely never will. Doubtful any other platforming game series will ever threaten Mario either, as the genre has declined in recent years, plus Mario and Nintendo almost have a monopoly on the genre these day.
@THE GIFTED POET it's great indeed, I vary and don't really have a favorite console in all fairness, check out my childhood classic consoles series here
@THE GIFTED POET the series is definitely outdated and could've had more info but not having what I wanted for the videos and mentioning my ex wife kinda requires me to do a Remaster and definitely a quality overhaul lol but still enjoyable
The reason I think the wrath of cortex is the best is because the system in which you have to get all the gyms. The Rolex are really cool and warped but there weren’t as many secret levels to discover and anybody can get 10 relics to unlock the secret work through but it was nothing like being a kid and trying some crazy stuff and teleporting for the first time.....
My interest in the series has also been re-sparked in playing the N-Sane Trilogy. The first thing to hit me going back through Crash 1 was how damn hard the game gets. Much like you my favorite in the series is 2 and I have fonder memories of that one over the other two, but I still love those too.

Mascot? More like...Crashcot.
Nailed it
MichaelLeroi - Mic drop!

His Catchphrase = "I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves"
that promo for crash 2.... wtf
90's... Just 90's.
Paige Smart I'm getting Caddicarus flashbacks
Yeah, that promo sucks and looks horrible.
"HHHAAA!!!"
Paige Smart HAAAAAAAA
Accurate shout-out to LGR.
Those crash GBA games are honestly just so good, especially n.tranced, which is an extremely varied and challenging platformer imo. Great video, Dan.
I agree, Crash (in-game) does look better than Mario 64. The cutscenes look like Sonic's ass though.
Robo Blue Mario did not agree well, most of the n64 games look like shit now.
I would argue that Crash is a much better game than Mario64 as playing the origonal a few years ago I never ran into as many wonky camera angles as 64 and the games controls just feel a lot tigter and the level design is a lot more creative as well as the bosses and the zany chill tropical style of the games world. This was a wonderful history lession mate,
God bless that you didn't hate on the later games either.
Really enjoy seeing Crash get all the recent attention with the remaster. Always enjoyed the series and miss these types of classic platformers
Miss my childhood so much.

this just taught me that marketing people are full of shit.
They THREATENED TO QUIT IF THEY USED CRASH!? Good riddance.

Well done and you actually got your wish last night. Crash Team Racing HD was announced. Thank you for this and all of the great videos you put together. It’s much appreciated.
Hell yeah to the video. now i just hope the spyro the dragon series can be re birthed from the dead . because i love that entire series too.
Crash bash was so much fun for the time, the glacier level with the bears was too much fun
Great video Dan, but from what I read Tawna was based on Pamela Anderson.
Amazing video, Daniel! Cheers!
+It's a Pixel THING more than welcome bud :) thanks for commenting
Anytime! Your content is freakin' awesome! ;)

xxcrysad3000xx Naughty Dog doesn't have that name for no reason ;)
lol I checked just to see if any remembered this 🤣👍
I will remember that code, thanks.
Crash Bandicoot does look better than Mario 64. N64 was technically misguided in a variety of ways, particularly hardware acceleration.
True, but as a result, Crash Bandicoot levels are smaller and more tightly packed in. Mario in contrast, while sacrificing graphics, could have larger and more open levels.
It look like sonic ass
Where'd you find the Manga images at 16:05? That sort of thing fascinates me and I'd love to see if there was more of it available to view.
+SecretAgentYaya just google images my friend
Hope you end up doing complete history vids for Rayman & Sega Rally.
I'm playing Crash Warped while I'm listening
I'm trying to get back into Game Development. The way you talk about these games is very inspiring.
*Woah! I just flew in from the new ruins level and boy are my arms tired!*
*_H A_*
Awesome thanks Dan!
Great video.
Fun Fact: People who made Crash Tag Team Racing also Made Simpsons Hit n' Run
+Razor Vermillion another great game
Daniel Ibbertson agreed
Probably why I enjoyed both games so much.
I know it'd be a monumental task, but wouldn't that be one helluva Complete History video? The Simpson's games. That'd have to be a multi-parter though. I totally can't blame you for not touching on that though. There's a LOT of them and a lot of bad ones too.
that explains a lot
YES YES!! So glad you made this!!
+Roly woop woop hope ya like it buddy
Daniel Ibbertson ah you really sound like you were annoyed when you were younger at Mario 64 especially on your croc video
Another high quality video, great work!
+Tool0GT92 thanks matey
so glad i found you through guru larry : " ) you guys are making far and away the best gaming videos on yt
video equivalents of hcg101
Thanks for your work
high five to you sir for another well researched and entertainingly presented video :)
fantastic video aswell.

+Cy Cortex i feel better after reading ur comment
Awesome work Daniel. You deliver all of the history and information in a way that makes me laugh and learn at the same time.
I truly enjoy listening to your love of video games. A lot of times people crap on games because it's not what the originals were. Its cool to see someone judge a game on the gameplay and story not just the feelings the originals gave them and compare it.
Huge Adventure and N-Tranced are definitely fun GBA games. I think I had as much fun with them as I did with the PS1 games.
+electricmastro agreed they are almost hidden gems imi
This series just gets better and better! I'm holding out for DJ Slopes working his magic on a Castlevania complete history video.
Hey man I was wondering it when you ever going to do that the complete history of Tomb Raider can't wait to see what you got up your sleeve on that one.
The music at 31:56 really takes me back. I used to play Crash Tag Team Racing all the time as a kid!
I hate to think how long Final Fantasy: The Compete History would be.
On a pure technical level, Twinsanity is an obviously unfinished product. 90% of the cutscenes go absolutely nowhere, half the enemies never even tries to attack you at all, most of the audio in the in-game cut scenes are unsynced and or missing and there is a glitch around every corner. Yes, more Complete History episodes!
Great video, you’re a legend!
should do sly cooper I loved that series
Another top vid Dan, cheers for doing these! Not sure if you were aware of the loading times in Wrath of Cortex though? The loading was this game's biggest fault by a total mile, at least on the original PS2. Took forever on startup, then round 1m between warp area and levels.. was very surprised these didn't get a mention as it's many folks' biggest gripe! Did you not play on the PS2 for your re-review?
Wrath of Cortex isn't that bad, it introduced Crunch!
I have to admit that I pressed the subscribe button after this video couple of months ago. Man, you're doing great job!!
Dan your videos could be 2 hours long and I'll still be there till the very last second! Keep on rockin!
+Thunder28X thats amazing to hear mate :) perhaps when i get to pacman we can test out that theory... A GAAAAAAME THEORY
Fabulous!
Could you PLEASE make something about Jazz Jackrabbit?!
Jazz was better than Crash.
Crash bash is a excellent party game I love it
that was amazing man. As an oldschool Bandibro I was prepared to call you out on bullshit. I couldn't find any in this video. I bow before you, that was well worth the 40 minutes!
High Five :D You and Kim Justice do the best gaming documentaries on RUclips bar none.
bruh at 20:20 he said comedy humor wtf is that
Long live the Bandicoot! Very pleased to see this in my sub box seeing as I'm loving N. Sane at the minute :P
11:01 Wait, Tiny Tiger and the Komodo brothers were going to be in crash 1? Woah.
I must say, this is a bloody good video!
41 minutes video 😊
Never played the Crash series.... now I'll be giving them a try! Great work as usual!
Now thus a video I've been anticipating.
How much do you spend on stock photos per video?
Do a Legacy of Kain and Metal Gear complete history
This was a great video
But how dare you compare Crash Bandicoot to Sonic Adventure
I made it through the entire video! I dozed off for a few minutes, but I persevered and am definitely better for the experience :)
Love your channels, very entertaining!
I feel proud to have watched this all, I high fived my face cause I have nobody with me but my bed
What a treat to stumble upon this video! Great!
Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot were the only platformer series to seriously threaten Mario's status as the king of platformers.
But none of them did it. As much as I like Crash Bandicoot, Mario is still the king of platformers and with Super Mario Odyssey, he will claim that once again.
Technically not, sadly.
Technically not what?
Sorry, error on my part.
Crash Bash is still favorite game of ALL TIME!!!!
Thank you …. It aged so well I still play
Awesome video!
amazing video mate,
Brilliant, another great video!
i've never understood why crash 1 looks better than any other ps1 game
That is one sexy bandicoot. RIP Greg Bandicoot:
please do one for spyro
Same! Crash 2 was the first PS1 game I ever played and is as old as me
@THE GIFTED POET my mom was 16 and 9 days shy of 17 when she had me, my point here was to say I was born the year of my favorite crash game that's it
@THE GIFTED POET nice! 1997 was the year I was born and I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy 7 as well
@THE GIFTED POET it's great indeed, I vary and don't really have a favorite console in all fairness, check out my childhood classic consoles series here
@THE GIFTED POET the series is definitely outdated and could've had more info but not having what I wanted for the videos and mentioning my ex wife kinda requires me to do a Remaster and definitely a quality overhaul lol but still enjoyable
@THE GIFTED POET I was 19 almost 20 we just separated June 10th last year
Has anyone told you that you sound like Jeremy Clarkson
Love the Sonic 3 (maybe Sonic & Knuckles?) at the start.
Has been and always will be eggman.
rotnick is just the english translation name that ended up becoming part of his name
Can u make a video of virtua fighter or time crisis?
The reason I think the wrath of cortex is the best is because the system in which you have to get all the gyms. The Rolex are really cool and warped but there weren’t as many secret levels to discover and anybody can get 10 relics to unlock the secret work through but it was nothing like being a kid and trying some crazy stuff and teleporting for the first time.....
Do Bomberman's Complete History. Or Kunio-Kun's.
Yes the complete history of...okay I can't remember any other obscure mascot platformers characters to make this joke again. Good Video Daniel!
munnypantz Jazz Jackrabbit.
2:45 Wow Andy Gavin sure looks different, crazy what the Crash franchise can do to a man's health!
