I'm sure you've been told this a million times but the reason Japanese devs used aliases in credits was because they were forced to so other companies wouldn't poach them.
That's sad, honestly. You don't get credit and you don't get offered higher salaries elsewhere. The better solution is to just pay your employees more than your competitors.
I think it's unfair to call Tyris Flare a "token" female character. When I was a girl and teen I loved playing Golden Axe as Tyris and thought she was the coolest. Her character was given the same care as the other two in the first game and her animations are great.
Not to mention she had the most impressive magic spells. Also, Golden Axe is the earliest beat 'em up I can think of which *has* a female character option, so it was hardly a token at the time.

Thank you so much for this history. I must say I am an old schooler (I was 13 in 93) and Golden Axe always stood out for me. I first remember playing it on arcade in one of my favorite department stores. I spent more on the game than in the store! Just brought back so many memories. I am now a subscriber to your channel :)
Your prayers may have been answered! SEGA just announced five new games from long dormant franchises today, including Golden Axe! We only got about five seconds of gameplay footage, but I'm really intrigued by what we see, and it looks as if the original 3 heroes are back with some slight redesigns. Ax looks more barbariany with some furs and a much bigger sword, Gilius is buff to the point that he looks like a square made of muscle (and I mean that as a compliment, that's how dwarves should look), and Tyris has some kind of double-bladed sword weapon now, which makes her the coolest.
I discovered Golden Axe very young in a... Taco USA. A little taco place in my home town. All the eating joints had one of two cabinets in the back somewhere. Little Italy's had Galaga and something else. Pizza Hut had the 4 player wheel version of Off Road, and eventually one of the Teken games. CiCi's had 1941, Raiden I/II, and something else. One of the Dairy Queens had Final Lap.
Great vid! Thanks for taking us through the years of Golden Axe! Very fond memories of this game. I used to spend so much money in the arcade and definitely one of my favourites of all time!

Another superb slice of nostalgia here buddy. Enjoyed the editing massively. The advert where the kid got all the arcades but the one who had the Megadrive was seen as the winner...Ummm ok. Hey I love the Megadrive but a room full of Sega arcades is no contest! How did we not see that as kids eh? It's up on the website already dude and once again it's brilliant mate, really really brilliant. The Master System exclusive game is so damn expensive though... Sadface
If I ever start up my master system collection again I think I might start with that bad boy :) Massive thank for noticing the editing man, I spend a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time on it so thanks for mentioning it :) MegatronsFury
MegatronsFury that promo advert is soooooo good, check it out its really really funny so many wicked quotes ruclips.net/video/NTGvc2FE-O4/видео.html (I will chuck it up on the forums too)
I'm jealous of the fact that Slope got £5 pocket money each week! I never got that much pocket money a week! Though I did get games bought for me, so I suppose that evens it out and the fact that my mum loved the Mega Drive when it was relevant and my Dad played all of the PC games out at the time, I had both bases covered.
Such great games, Altered Beast, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and of course... Golden Axe. When you mentioned that you would still be playing Golden Axe in the old people's home I couldn't help to shed a tear at the thought. I understand that sentiment, and agree wholeheartedly.
Gamer Garm It shows just how great these games are that when you play them with people nowadays and they still hold up just as well as they did in the past, fully worth the time
Daniel Ibbertson And goes to show that it's not just the "nostalgia goggles", but really clever design and huge effort on the part of everyone involved to keep pushing the limits of the hardware more and more.
For what it's worth, the arcade version of Golden Axe is available on Xbox 360 & Xbox One via backwards-compatibility as is SEGA Vintage Collection Golden Axe, which includes all 3 SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive games. Golden Axe lives on!
Great trip down memory lane! Some corrections and extra tidbits of knowledge however... Japanese programmers of the day weren’t encouraged to use their real names in the credits. In fact, the Genesis/Mega Drive era was sort of new ground for this. Hence the nicknames. The PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16 was an inferior system. In fact, it wasn’t even a true 16 bit system. It used two 8 but CPUs instead of a single 16 bit chip. And it showed with every single multi platform port. TG16 had performance just about in the exact middle between a Master System and Genesis. Golden Axe II was indeed sold on the Genesis on the NA region as well. Bonus factoid: Alien Storm uses the same game engine (among other things) as Golden Axe. It’s pretty much a reskinned Golden Axe with FPS levels added.
Golden Axe Warrior was actually ported (I believe as an unlockable) in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (North American name), which I guess for you would be called SEGA Mega Drive Collection.
When the SEGA Golden Axe (and Streets of Rage) collection came out on 360 I bought it the same day. I still play all of those games regularly. It's just too much fun!
No joke about Revenge of Death Adder. It is so fun and it's actually surprising how impactful the fighting feels. It might be one of the best beat em' ups there is.
Same. It still shocks me that SEGA never ever decided to port that game to anything. Makes me wonder if they lost the assets to do it or something. However, they could even do it via emulation so I don’t know why they don’t port and sell it given how everything is more than capable of running it.
Just been reminded of Golden Axe by a random comment on LinkedIn. Immediately went on a nostalgia binge and found your channel. So glad I did too. New sub
So true, I love the whole series, but I haven't seen any 2D hack'nslash / beat'em'up games, that has better fighting system than Golden Axe 3. Replayed it kinda 30 times, each time its gameplay proved to be even better, than I thought before. Revenge of Death Adder is fun, ofcourse, but fighting there is quite shallow to replay it that many times.
Just discovered your channel today. Already subscribed and watched this one, Shinobi, Ghosts and Goblins, and Double Dragon. You are giving me a major case of Nostalgia and the urge to replay some of these classics!
I loved Golden Axe 1 and 2, I even have a t-shirt of Golden Axe lol. Me and my friends also reviewed GA 1 and 2 sometime after we did the SOR series. Good stuff.
When I wanna play Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, I simply walk downstairs to my arcade and fire it up. I completely agree with your assessment on someone dropping what they are doing to go and play it should they ever see one. This machine gets the most game play of any game in my arcade room when I have guests come over. As always, spectacular job on the video. Very much enjoyed it.
Oliver Harper Send em over man, there's plenty of slope to go round... no seriously there is LOADS!!! like I said before, if you ever decide you want to do something similar to this, get in touch :)
Daniel Ibbertson hey could you please do a shadow run complete history I think it was the best game on sega ever and I don't think THON died hat easy!!! PLEASE been waiting along time
James Avery did a lot of voice acting for instance he was the voice of Shredder in TMNT (yes, the original one) and War Machine in the Iron Man series from the 90's
I love your videos mate! I just marathoned through your videos on earthworm jim, streets of rage, double dragon and golden axe, it's so refreshing to see a Sega fan in the English speaking segment of the Internet!
The mega games puzzled me too, why not stick their other early games like ESWAT, Zoom, space harrier 2 or Alex Kidd on them? But they also did a mega games collection for the Mega CD and the Master System, where you had to press reset to change games!
The change from World cup Italia 90 to Sega Soccer was due to the ending of the licence agreement with FIFA. In order for 94 world cup game to be the only one on the market known as a world cup title. It's quite sad that I know this...
I own the mega CD one, wasn't it supposed to have like 10 games but for some weird reason it went down to 5? not sure where I heard that from. also the mega CD version had the later version of revenge of shinobi so its DEAD to me lol Didn't know about the master system version, looking up now *****
Daniel Ibbertson Oh yeah, It was called "Master Games" (obviously) I think they only ever did the one, but you're going to love what three games are on the cart :D
***** just looked, super monico gp, columns and world soccer hahahaha goddam you sega, just looking at the cover is annoying me that i dont own it! Might need to go on ebay now lol
Awesome videos man. I bought the Sega Genesis Classics bundle pack from XBox Live which includes only Golden Axe 1,2, and 3 but only really ever play part 2. It would be great if XBL offered Revenge of Death Adder for download. You've just gotten yourself another subscriber. Keep up the great work!
Really enjoying your channel, it's inspired me to replay my fav games of old and with streets of rage free on Xbox this month. It seems like the perfect time to go retro again.
I can't even think of what the US version was called. But it was literally Sonic, Super Hang On, Shinobi, Streets, Golden, and columns. I remember playing the hell out of the game. Didn't work with S&K unfortunately.
made it to the end 👊. first play i had of the Axe franchise was in a department store in London when it launched (89 i guess). was hooked immediately, but had to settle for the 1 player SMS version (which after having watched this video I now understand stands up pretty well in comparison to some of the later ports!)... informative vid, thx
Golden Axe movies already happened!!! We were treated to Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian" and "Conan the Destroyer" as well as "Red Sonja" starring Brigitte Nielsen
Woah I haven't heard that music in years (the opening music) it brings back memories of those multi game cartridges I had 2 of them, one with Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage (absolutely awesome cartridge) and one with World Cup Italia 90, Columns and Super Hang On, many a happy hour playing those with my brother, thanks for the memories and great video as always!
Absolutely brilliant, I'm the perfect age and grew up during the Golden Age of Arcades and consoles and remember playing the original Shinobi on the Game Gear during a family holiday to Spain looking back I think it was a miracle my Mum and Dad bought me a Game Gear and kept forking out for the huge amount of AA batteries it used, Anyway Loved the videoI'm gonna relive a few more wonderful memories by watching some more, Subbed and liked.
No, its because Bondi Studios and Rockstar completely destroyed the Australian video game industry. At the time i was actually hoping to become a developer, but all the Australian studios shut down after the whole LA Noire debacle.. Bondi were treating employees like slaves (wouldn't give a dev time off to see his child being born etc etc etc) and Rockstar pretty much shut them down, which caused the entire industry here to crash... After all Bondi were pretty much the top studio.
Yeah. Still really sucks, I love what that prototype looks like, and the idea of the others being re-made... and connected?? Actually I know a guy that worked on Castle Of Illusion before they disbanded - they were actually firing people as the game was winding down, and he got let just before the end - and the team accidentally stomped over some of his facial animation of the main baddy in the end cutscene, dulling down what would have been more impressive, Disney style animation.
i played sonic all stars racing transformed this morning for 3 hours and I found these wonderful videos after I decided to learn about all the sega characters. thanks.
Having played both, I'd vote on revenge of death adder. Shadows got some other nice fun things, but Revenge just flows better. It got mounts you can ride, and while riding pick up small ballistas or catapults. Moving inwards and outwards, not just sideways. Yeah... to each their own, but I'd go with Revenge any day.
Yōjinbō 用心棒 In all seriousness, I wanted to use some really bad words/phrases when I wrote my first comment, but then decided against it. You are right, some guys really don't know what they are talking about.
Great video. I love the original Golden Axe with all of my heart. Dropped so many tokens in that machine back in the day. For those wanting to know a little bit more about the game, I suggest trying to get a copy of the Retro Gamer magazine, issue 128, from 2014.
!!! I have been googling all over for that decapitation intro, but never found anything about it. I remembered it from the arcades as a kid (in Norway), where we at some point must've had a japanese version of the game, which was not unusual at the time. I was starting to question my own sanity, if it was something child-me had invented in my head, but I am glad to see that it wasn't. Thanks!
An absolute great video on an awesome part of my childhood. Really glad you hit me up on Twitter with the links to both this Golden Axe and Streets of Rage videos as I may never of ever found them. I really really enjoyed them both and hope to see a lot more history videos on other iconic games.
You can play that Master System game on the Ultimate SEGA Megadrive collection as an unlockable. Great video, I loved the story at the start of how you first encountered Golden Axe.
I'm sure you knew, I was just letting people know in case they wanted to have a go at the game, I've played it and it's pretty good. It's great watching videos from a fellow SEGA fan. Oh and what do Slope points get me?
Man I love Golden Axe! I played 1, 2 , 3 and warrior on ps3 so it makes me so sad that that flashy arcade one never got anywhere but arcade. Great video, too. I was wondering why the first one just seemed like the most fun. GA Warrior I agree was a gem, too.
Hey Dan...just a heads up, Arcade1up just announced a dedicated Sega cabinet featuring the Golden Axe arcade games including REVENGE OF DEATH ADDER!!!!
Daniel, great videos! I believe classic Japanese games in those days used aliases instead of real names in the credits to prevent other companies from headhunting and recruiting their staff (sorry if this has been mentioned!).
I love golden axe! It hasn't aged well but I still love playing it! + those last 3 mega games collections, they're a bit weird. I think originally they came as/with console bundles, rather than being sold separately? I may be wrong though. Also, thanks for the shoutout!!! :D
This video is Gold. Worthy of plating onto the axe. Well done sir. Did you try Gauntlet Legends yet? Wondering your feedback on that. I find it similarly themed.
I first and only ever played Golden Axe at my friend's house, who owned a copy of it for MS-DOS, and I loved it. I was far too young to remember the name of the game. But decades later while listening through a long list of video game music, I heard that familiar theme play again and was instantly taken back to that childhood. Personally I haven't played the game since I was a kid. Because I am afraid of being disappointed, but also because my memories of the game are tied to playing it with my friend. And I would like to keep it that way. However I gladly listen to the music from it, just to get that warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia again.
Excellent vid m8 one of the best I've seen so far about golden axe and the most complete of all. It's really a shame seeing games like GA getting lost through time due to the stupidity of game devs and their complete lack of ability to adjust games like that for newer generations of systems and players...my first encounter with the game was an arcade version on a cruise ship back in '94 I was mind blown by it completely dark fantasy world cool characters with weapons and dragons...it was love at first sight haha ofc I didn't have a mega drive and neither I knew that the game was ported there after that it was stuck in my mind for years and I finally got it in a collection. Revenge of death adder is indeed exceptional a gem it's the best simply put..rly a shame it never ported in home systems..peace out!
I've just finished the arcade version of Golden Axe, and have to say that for all it's extra beefyness, the Megadrive version is still the best way to play the game. Far smoother, more polished, and the extra levels really help too.
That's really awesome. I never knew about those two "Zelda-type" games. Well... no. I had heard of Axe Battlerfor the GG back in the day... but I don't recall ever seeing anything about it in magazines. Golden Axe II for the Genesis (or Mega Drive) was actually my first experience with the series - and for 2 reasons, it holds the number one spot for me. 1 - obviously because of nostalgia (though The Revenge of Death Adder is far superior, I agree haha). But 2 - The soundtrack. Music has always been an extremely important part of gaming for me. And Golden Axe II (for me) has such an amazing score. The tone and atmosphere created by the music, apart from the rest of the series (in retrospect), just seems much more "impactful", "intense", and "urgent"... and purposefully so (I would think). Now... that's not to say that the music in the rest of the series is "bad", at all. There's just something about the music in Golden Axe II, that is just - it's not just back ground music thrown in there for the sake of "having music"... it really creates a sense of what exactly is happening and how "serious" the story is. I just love it. Haha, anyway. Another excellent review! Keep it up!
I used to love playing Golden Axe in the Arcades. Then I got the game for Sega Genesis and my dad and I used to play that game all the time along with other great games of 80’s and early 90’s.
Unbelievably detailed video bro, nice. Revenge of DA is 1 of my all time favorite games, just puts me back to a more innocent time in my life. Loved my mega drive. Also love streets of rage and moonwalker games. Did u have herzog zwei as well or tried playing it? It was also one of my faves on the mega drive. Wud love to c a detailed video as gud as yours cover that game. Nobody has ever really given that game any love, thnx. I'm a big fan of your work!
Golden Axe was HUGE here in the States when it first hit arcades and a huge hit on the early Sega Genesis (pre-Sonic). Still one of my all time favorite games.
Good video. Thanks. Brings me back although i wasn't.justf a sega-head back then, just got any console that came out still wish turbo grfx 16 had more games. Anyway Thanks again guys I'm feeling the nostalgia.
Fun fact. The dwarf from Golden Axe also makes a cameo appearance as the weapons shopkeeper in Sega Genesis' "Shining In The Darkness" game.
I've been playing both games recently lol

Gamer Garm It shows just how great these games are that when you play them with people nowadays and they still hold up just as well as they did in the past, fully worth the time
Daniel Ibbertson
And goes to show that it's not just the "nostalgia goggles", but really clever design and huge effort on the part of everyone involved to keep pushing the limits of the hardware more and more.
Excellent video, I still remember playing Golden Axe in the arcade as a kid and bought every version I could get my hands on growing up.
Gilius is how you survive. Dwarf FTW
Love the Decap Attack music in the intro.
For what it's worth, the arcade version of Golden Axe is available on Xbox 360 & Xbox One via backwards-compatibility as is SEGA Vintage Collection Golden Axe, which includes all 3 SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive games. Golden Axe lives on!
Arcade and Mega Drive versions are still downloadable on Wii VC, too.
***** - The problem will be w/once the Nintendo Switch comes out. The console doesn't seem to be backwards-compatible.
And Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder is playable on MAME, only way to have it at home short of having the actual arcade unit.
Chowdaire correct.
Now, only if we were to get a rerelease of Revenge of Death Adder...
Without a shadow of a doubt.
My college had it underneath our cafeteria way back when. We had the 3 player cabinet. SO fun.
Same. It still shocks me that SEGA never ever decided to port that game to anything. Makes me wonder if they lost the assets to do it or something. However, they could even do it via emulation so I don’t know why they don’t port and sell it given how everything is more than capable of running it.
Quite possibly the greatest 5 minute intro to a video ever. Pretty much nailed my reaction to the game back then too
This was one of my favorite games :)
+Hippo Reddy at the time mine too :)
Just been reminded of Golden Axe by a random comment on LinkedIn. Immediately went on a nostalgia binge and found your channel.
So glad I did too. New sub
On LinkedIn?
@@slopesgameroom haha yea. I'm a game designer so my LinkedIn is just full of game industry peeps
Golden Axe 3 is my personal favorite in the series. I cannot understand the hate it gets at all.
retrospiel Maybe I should try it again, it just didnt grab me how I wanted it too, Revenge of death adder is defo my fav
How did you want it to grab you, exactly? Like from the front- or from the back?
It's my least favorite. It almost felt like it lacked that special something. I love Golden Axe One & Revenge Of The Death Adder.
GA3 is the biggest crap ever taken
Good stuff.
Ron Mower ahhhh thats fantastic buddy :) Will defo be checking that
When I wanna play Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, I simply walk downstairs to my arcade and fire it up. I completely agree with your assessment on someone dropping what they are doing to go and play it should they ever see one. This machine gets the most game play of any game in my arcade room when I have guests come over. As always, spectacular job on the video. Very much enjoyed it.
Fantastic work Dan!.
Oliver Harper Cheers ol' buddy ol' pal :)
People have asked me to do retrospectives on video games, I think I will leave that to you!
Oliver Harper Send em over man, there's plenty of slope to go round... no seriously there is LOADS!!! like I said before, if you ever decide you want to do something similar to this, get in touch :)
Your videos are incredible! I love how you add all your nostalgic memories.
Great vid once again, Daniel. Any plans to do a Street Fighter complete history?
+Toyin Oshodi oooooo i dunno, i sadly dont have much nostalgia with that 1
Toyin Oshodi yeah good one
Daniel Ibbertson hey could you please do a shadow run complete history I think it was the best game on sega ever and I don't think THON died hat easy!!! PLEASE been waiting along time
wow! I started with the history of Shinobi and I have to save that Im loving your channel! Thanks for these "complete history" vids! Subbed!
Looks like the closest thing to this in the U.S. was the "6-pak", if only they made more compilations on the Genesis...
That was the thing about back in the day. You happened on the games you fell in love with. They weren't jammed down you throat
RIP uncle Phil
:(
gwald
James Avery did a lot of voice acting for instance he was the voice of Shredder in TMNT (yes, the original one) and War Machine in the Iron Man series from the 90's
I love your videos mate! I just marathoned through your videos on earthworm jim, streets of rage, double dragon and golden axe, it's so refreshing to see a Sega fan in the English speaking segment of the Internet!
+Andrey Kim thats so awesome to read :) really chuffd that you like it so much :)
I own the mega CD one, wasn't it supposed to have like 10 games but for some weird reason it went down to 5? not sure where I heard that from. also the mega CD version had the later version of revenge of shinobi so its DEAD to me lol Didn't know about the master system version, looking up now *****
MegatronsFury Hahahaha I knew it was something like that, I went to Meg and now I know the FACTS!!!!
Daniel Ibbertson
Oh yeah, It was called "Master Games" (obviously) I think they only ever did the one, but you're going to love what three games are on the cart :D
I have Golden Axe Beast Rider and it's not bad in my book. In fact, once you manage to adapt to the mechanics, it's a bit fun.
I agree, because I am fucking sick to death of people hating on Beast Rider.
Beast rider is ok. Its a bit boring tbh but its not total crap
It was way better than that god awful Conan game for Xbox360 that's for sure.
Conan was much better and had better voice acting. It just needed a sequel to work out some of the bugs from the first game.
You deserve more subscribers!!
The amount of information and the great animations are truly amazing!
+SergioPL ahhhhhh thanks buddy
Amstrad compilations... That's how I got to play Target Renegade! :)
+Famigamers I had one with Jack The Nipper and Basil the great mouse detective on it :D
Really enjoying your channel, it's inspired me to replay my fav games of old and with streets of rage free on Xbox this month. It seems like the perfect time to go retro again.
I had Sonic, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi 1, Columns, and one other games... I couldn't think of in a 6 in 1 cart.
It was super hang on. Basically SUper Mega Games vol 6 but with Sonic instead of tennis.
They are great to own, but weirdly messed them up for the later 3 releases
I can't even think of what the US version was called. But it was literally Sonic, Super Hang On, Shinobi, Streets, Golden, and columns. I remember playing the hell out of the game.
Didn't work with S&K unfortunately.
It was the 6-pal. This Daniel bro would have shit bricks- seeing he was so stoked about his little three pack.
Yeah, and Mega Games 2 is just half of the Sega 6-Pak.
8:46 That's an awesome Easter egg as well as the video, well done!
Have you guys played Golden Axe Myth already? It's great!
MaximusPayne wat?
Yes!! It`s really nice!!!
What is that?
Draconian Alchemist It's a new Golden Axe game, made by fans. It's free, so search for it and get it.
MaximusPayne ooooooo!
made it to the end 👊. first play i had of the Axe franchise was in a department store in London when it launched (89 i guess). was hooked immediately, but had to settle for the 1 player SMS version (which after having watched this video I now understand stands up pretty well in comparison to some of the later ports!)... informative vid, thx
Golden Axe movies already happened!!!
We were treated to Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian" and "Conan the Destroyer" as well as "Red Sonja" starring Brigitte Nielsen
+KickboxerKyo1 Not really based on Golden Axe tbh but the game was defo inspired
‘James Avery of all people’. He had good form for voicing bad guys...he provided the voice of Shredder in the original run of TMNT.
Sega 6-pack was legendary:
1. Columns
2. Golden axe
3. Streets of rage
4. Revenge of Shinobi
5. Super hang on
6. Sonic the hedgehog
Have it
Woah I haven't heard that music in years (the opening music) it brings back memories of those multi game cartridges I had 2 of them, one with Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage (absolutely awesome cartridge) and one with World Cup Italia 90, Columns and Super Hang On, many a happy hour playing those with my brother, thanks for the memories and great video as always!
Haha just realised you covered this in the video, my bad. Anyways I just subscribed :-)
+WallStreetBlues hahaha no pribs, thanks for subbing mate :)
wait. did you not know golden axe warrior was on sonic ultimate?
Yeah, i was about to comment about that too. it's unlockable, but it is available on the ps3/360 compilation
Gilius Thunderhead!
Is Ax Battler unlockable also?
Absolutely brilliant, I'm the perfect age and grew up during the Golden Age of Arcades and consoles and remember playing the original Shinobi on the Game Gear during a family holiday to Spain looking back I think it was a miracle my Mum and Dad bought me a Game Gear and kept forking out for the huge amount of AA batteries it used, Anyway Loved the videoI'm gonna relive a few more wonderful memories by watching some more, Subbed and liked.
26:40 The fact that SEGA cancelled this prototype is a clear indication that they hate making money.
The prototype looked pretty shitty, to be honest.
Wow, I just found your channel. You've put a lot of work in to these videos and I'm thankful for your diligence. Terrific video.
Golden Axe 2 is way better than the first one.
Only if you're talking about the Genesis port of the first game.
I love Golden Axe One & Revenge Of The Death Adder.
the connected universe idea is so cool, it could work as a cinematic universe to
Dislike all the grief over in-game stories. Gameplay trumps story, especially in beat'em ups.
i played sonic all stars racing transformed this morning for 3 hours and I found these wonderful videos after I decided to learn about all the sega characters. thanks.
Gilius Thunderhead, the celebrated ancestor of Chad Thundercock
I almost cry 😭 for the nostalgia, thanks for the video
monaco GP was awesome what you on about!
mrmong Yup. Definitely the best of the three on that collection.
scrolled to see if several hundred people had commented this. They didn't. They should have.
Very well done! Golden Axe is one of the most iconic video games of all time. It helped shape the 16 bit era.
+The Code most def! One of the 1st games from that era that made people stop and say... Wooooooooow!
"possibly the best the genre has to offer." -- Dungeons and Dragons Shadows over Mystara wants to have a word with you.
Golden Axe 3 is bad? Are you fucking serious?
Yōjinbō 用心棒
In all seriousness, I wanted to use some really bad words/phrases when I wrote my first comment, but then decided against it. You are right, some guys really don't know what they are talking about.
lol, I tried to hold back as much as I can. But I guess I couldn't help myself towards the end. hehe.
Yōjinbō 用心棒
:D yeah, I know the feeling. I don't like a bad job done by people. One can clearly see that the other one does a terrible job.
Yes, I did not like it. Glad you enjoyed it though :D
I'm glad I enjoyed it too. All it takes is one shitty opinion- in my eyes- all of your opinions then become invalid.
What an awesome video. Packed with cool stuff. Thanks for putting this together, subbed!
Great video. I love the original Golden Axe with all of my heart. Dropped so many tokens in that machine back in the day.
For those wanting to know a little bit more about the game, I suggest trying to get a copy of the Retro Gamer magazine, issue 128, from 2014.
+allluckyseven great issue :D

B33FY2015 Fantastic :) I am really glad you enjoyed it :)
You can play that Master System game on the Ultimate SEGA Megadrive collection as an unlockable. Great video, I loved the story at the start of how you first encountered Golden Axe.
You are correct sir, A mistake made by me :D 10 slope points go to you
I'm sure you knew, I was just letting people know in case they wanted to have a go at the game, I've played it and it's pretty good. It's great watching videos from a fellow SEGA fan.
Oh and what do Slope points get me?
respect from me hahaha, everyone else will hate you
I was lucky enough to acquire a Golden Axe arcade cabinet for a steal. It has an honored place in my living room. Love that game.
Man I love Golden Axe! I played 1, 2 , 3 and warrior on ps3 so it makes me so sad that that flashy arcade one never got anywhere but arcade. Great video, too. I was wondering why the first one just seemed like the most fun. GA Warrior I agree was a gem, too.
you can play them on the sega console?
Fantastic video! Thank you so much for making this. Cheers!
Golden Axe Trilogy is a perfect example of a Masterpiece, a crowning achievement for a system.
Hey Dan...just a heads up, Arcade1up just announced a dedicated Sega cabinet featuring the Golden Axe arcade games including REVENGE OF DEATH ADDER!!!!
Daniel, great videos! I believe classic Japanese games in those days used aliases instead of real names in the credits to prevent other companies from headhunting and recruiting their staff (sorry if this has been mentioned!).
great vid, you did a really great job on this video, really well made :)
Odd pod Ahhhh thanks mate, I am really glad you are working your way through my vids :) PLENTY MORE TO COME
Daniel Ibbertson really looking forward to seeing what you do next :)
I love golden axe! It hasn't aged well but I still love playing it! + those last 3 mega games collections, they're a bit weird. I think originally they came as/with console bundles, rather than being sold separately? I may be wrong though. Also, thanks for the shoutout!!! :D
MyGamerXP No problem holmes:) and yeah they was bundled
Well your in luck! One of my next few vids will be an unboxing of the soundtrac k to this very game :D
Keep it up!
Your videos are entertaining, funny and very well made.
I used to love playing Golden Axe in the Arcades. Then I got the game for Sega Genesis and my dad and I used to play that game all the time along with other great games of 80’s and early 90’s.
These are brilliant videos and a good trip down memory lane well done 👍
Unbelievably detailed video bro, nice. Revenge of DA is 1 of my all time favorite games, just puts me back to a more innocent time in my life. Loved my mega drive. Also love streets of rage and moonwalker games. Did u have herzog zwei as well or tried playing it? It was also one of my faves on the mega drive. Wud love to c a detailed video as gud as yours cover that game. Nobody has ever really given that game any love, thnx. I'm a big fan of your work!
I am not 100% sure I know of that game, will defo be checking it out. Massive thanks mate for the love :D
Ur welcome, keep up the outstanding and brilliant job ur doing
01:07 - I had that Magnificent 7 compilation on my ZX Spectrum +2! That was how I discovered the awsomeness that was Wizball.
Ahhhhhhhh yes I loved wizball as a kid lol
It’d be dope for a modern RPG version now
Golden Axe was HUGE here in the States when it first hit arcades and a huge hit on the early Sega Genesis (pre-Sonic). Still one of my all time favorite games.
Good video. Thanks. Brings me back although i wasn't.justf a sega-head back then, just got any console that came out still wish turbo grfx 16 had more games. Anyway Thanks again guys I'm feeling the nostalgia.
