This was filmed in 72 or 73, in an empty amphiteather among the ruins of Pompeii, which was devastated by the eruption of the Vesuvius. Thousands died, suffocated by toxic ash, and their petrified bodies can still be found there, today.
The vulcanno is still active, so that grey bubbling sludge is a pool of hot mud.
They played for no one that day, except the ghosts of Pompeii.

Nick is one of the greatest drummers of all time. He's understated but his intuition is incredible. I was meant to see him play live last year but covid screwed it up. Was so looking forward to it because he was going to be covering the Meddle album (that this is taken from). Hopefully will be doing the tour next year! Will be great to see him for the 1st time since 1987

First time a live audience inside since 79 AD. he plays some Floyd and some solo . well worth any video on " Live at Pompeii". " comfortably Numb" 95 million views.

Bubbling Mud is lava from near by Mount Vesuvius, same volcano erupted in 79AD nearly destroyed then ancient city of Pompeii killing thousands of its citizens with some died and mummified by lava in their tracks. I think the ancient part of Pompeii is a historical site for visitation. As someone mentioned, David Gilmour came back with his solo band for real live event since 79AD with an audience in the ancient coliseum even though his band , Pink Floyd were there 40+ years prior to his live concert.

Welcome to the Floyd effect. It comes as easily as breathing in and out. Right here in our own homes, we are lifted to a universe of Floyd's own making.
Just think how different the bass would sound with a modern set up. The old bass here gives this classic it character. I've depended on their music, old and new to carry me through times I didn't ask for. On the other side, some of their music has sent me close to the edge at times when I shouldn't have listened. (Even just recently, I was in a period of mental down turn).
Not sure how long ago Echoes was released. It's from the Meddle album, that goes back to when the waters were receding from Noah's flood.
I love that you can't bring yourself to pause with a Floyd song playing. It's almost criminal to drag yourself back from the waking dream they take you to. Several times over the past few months, I was going to ask if a Floyd reaction was in the pipe line. But each time, it didn't feel right.
Almost ethereal, like a gassy material aloud to permeate through the air we breath to calm the foulest of moods. Just like Jesus was said to have calmed the raging sea. We don't need no education, we just need Pink Floyd. Right now I could type for days going on about about how masterful these men are. But I'll spare you all the rantings of a passionate old men.

This was early in the Dave Gilmour line up after he replaced Syd Barrett. Apparently the Mayor of Pompeii was a Pink Floyd fan and he had something to do with getting a power cable sorted out to power the kit? (maybe someone can correct that???)
I just know getting a permit it Italy to do anything is really really really difficult.... So for a British band to get permission to play in the ancient Amphitheatre at Pompeii is mind blowing in itself🤣
The very DNA of this track can be heard in the majority of Pink Floyds music, just awesome!

Yes there's a part two but I think the studio version actually sounds better. The live version of part two kind of loses the power of David Gilmour when he comes in with the crescendo in part 2. And actually a really good live version was the last one David Gilmour did with Rick Wright when he was still alive. This was 2006 live in Gdansk!! Brilliant version with the ending showing David Gilmour and Rick Wright actually having a conversation with guitar and keyboards in the end kind of saying goodbye....

Great comment! I've always that way too about the live versions having lost a lot of the power during the crescendo. Could never figure out why they went that route live. I was glad to see David brought that back for the 2006 tour though. I’m a completist, so you probably should watch part 2 of this song. It is a little disappointing though that part 2 was filmed in a studio (in Paris?), instead of the amphitheater in Pompeii.
The amphitheater used to host gladiatorial fights and other spectacles for the Roman citizens of Pompeii until 79 A. D. when nearby Vesuvius erupted spewing enough ash to completely entomb the town. 44 years after Pink Floyd’s historic performance in the middle of the empty amphitheater, guitarist David Gilmour came back to perform to a paying audience of 2500 for two nights in 2015, the first live event there in nearly two millennia. Look for the Blu Ray of that concert. Enjoy.

Hope your kid is ok. What soap did you use in the shower, my preference is Dove, its great and leaves the skin soft, it doesn't dry the skin out like a lot of soaps!

You should react to The Blister Exists by Slipknot, It's their best song IMO.

Nice to see you being back to reacting. If you want to know what "inspired" Pink Floyd you should check out KING CRIMSON "In the court of the Crimson King" Live.... it's a treat

I hear more early pink Floyd in crimson than crimson in Floyd. Animals is the only album that I can hear a little(red album) crimson in it. Chicken or the egg. Floyd came first.

Good reaction but personally think it would be better not to overlay your desk over the video as you can't see the video properly. Thanks.

I've been mesmorised and tearful at some PF stuff but this one just isn't there as a whole for me. Individually brilliant but that's it. Loved your pure reaction

The "bubbling mud", as most of you commenters call it, is in POZZUOLI! Jeez, do some research, or, even better, keep it out of your comments. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹

How would I know what to research before seeing it in the video? Is it better for the viewer to pause it and look it up?

How about just showing the video...
