  • C6 z06 Rear Shock Install on my C5 Corvette is finally here. I've upgrade the power on my C5 Corvette and it's finally time to upgrade the suspension on my C5 Corvette. A popular C5 Corvette suspension upgrade is the C6 Z06 shock upgrade. The C6 Z06 shocks are a direct fit for the C5 Corvette. No modifications are required to make the C6 Z06 shocks fit in the C5 Corvette.
    The rear shocks are pretty simple to replace in the C5 Corvette. I will have a video out on the front shock replacement as well.

    Thanks everybody for watching. Front Shock Install: ruclips.net/video/nTcPR2npfw0/видео.html. Has anybody else replaced their shocks with anything other than C5 OEM shocks? What brand? Next year might be coilovers 🤔

    • @Toys4Life
      @Toys4Life 3 года назад

      Yep, went with C6 Z06 and they really firm things up no doubt. I was struck at how "light duty" the mounting points on the C5 were for the shocks and even though It really made me wonder how the shock mounts would hold up to carrying the load of the C5 (instead of just dampening it) (look at 3:56 for example - does that look designed to carry the weight of the C5 on a coilover?) for say 50k of real world somewhat rough road driving. Did you get that impression as well? I have not doubt the C5 can handle coilovers on relatively smooth tracks - cause people have been doing that for years... but for long term real world street duty? I don't know...

      I went with the Bilstein b6s. No more floaty feeling. It's much more firmer than the stock but the firmness doesn't bother me at all.

    well I watched you do it but there is no way I can get my shock in without compressing it, its just too long uncompressed ,do you have the control arm all way down?..im putting in KYB shocks, also having issue trying to get shock compressed to tie up with ties,,need 4 hands,kinda at a standstill to get this figured out

    • @YellowVette04
      @YellowVette04  2 года назад

      I didn't need to disassemble anything to get the rear shocks in. When I compressed the front shock, I put one end on the ground and had a cardboard box folded over a few times that I placed against my chest and used my weight to compress it. I had both hands available to zip tie it all up. Good luck

    Another excellent choice in upgrades Dave. Stay the course! Just a suggestion for future removals, due to the age of your C5, you might want to consider soaking the appropriate areas ahead of time with something like PB Blaster. Just a thought. Oh yeah. Did you check the ZO6 shocks for contraband before you installed them. 🤭 You don't want any Bandido's knocking at your door looking for their "stuff."🤣 Just curious, do the shock bolts have any torgue specs. I'm guessing not, but I'm not sure.

      I'm sure there are torque specs. They weren't that tight when I took them out, so I just tightened them to that point. Yes, adding PB Blaster is the way to go for sure. I was in a rush and totally forgot to shoot them.

      I don't expect everybody to watch the whole video, but around the 3:00 mark I said I got them for free, so can't beat free. Even if I paid for them, they're cheaper than bilsteins which is the other popular upgrade. Nothing wrong with
      Bilsteins, so if you'd like to cover the cost difference then I'll take it. Every research topic on shocks, indicates the C6Z shocks are an upgrade over C5 shocks. The only noticeable upgrade beyond this would be coilovers.
