  • Welcome to Episode 6 of Geofatboy’s Everyday Shave! The razor featured is the Edwin Jagger DE89 Safety Razor. We know that many of you need to shave every day for your jobs. Geo comes through with this new series where on 1 or 2 day’s beard growth, he will select a razor, describe it, cover the razor specs, and perform a quick working man’s type shave, and then comment about the Razor and also give the razor an Aggression Rating from 1-10. This enables you to get an idea how each particular razor will perform for you. This will help you when considering a razor to purchase. Keep in mind the DE blade chosen can also increase or decrease the aggression of the shave for that particular razor. These videos will also be on the item description page for each razor at ShaveNation.com Click on "Show More" (below) to purchase the items shown in the video or go to ShaveNation.com Let us know what razor you’d like to see in an upcoming episode of Geofatboy’s Everyday Shave!

    Had my first ever DE shave today when my DE89 arrived, using the Feather blade supplied.
    I was very pleasantly surprised to have an almost nick free shave that was very close and without the irritation I've suffered in recent years from multi blade razors.

    The only problem with the DE89 razor is that there is a razor on Amazon that sells for $9 that is just as good or better. The Roman Empire Shaving Caesar has the exact same head, a heavier handle, and comes with an assortment of 20 blades (5 Astra Platinum, 5 GiIIette Platinum, 5 GiIIette 7 o'clock Sharp Edge, 5 Voskhod). All for 9$ it's incredible. Probably the best entry level deal around.

    Thanks to your review I purchased the DE89 and I love it! Took me 2 shaves to get my muscle memory to achieve the proper angle. This razor + Feather blade + Proraso green shaving cream (tube) + long knurled handle form the winning combination for me. And the head profile allows me to get under my nose. I like this razor better than the more expensive ones I've tried. 3 passes and no nicks or irritation. Best shave I've had in a very long time.
    Now that I have the shaving part conquered, I can look into pre- and aftershave products.

    Might get one. Been using a Wilkinson one which has been fine but has a massive design flaw which I found out last night when shaving last night whilst a bit sleepy. The handle opens at the top butterfly style so you can put the new blade in. If it’s not 100% fully shut you will take your skin off. Been fine for past 4 years with 10s of shaves but this has put me off using it. Why on earth are the butterfly bits so crazy sharp, sharper than the razed blade !!

    I found my love about five years ago through mail order. Today they sell at WalMart and elsewhere, ten bucks for a handle and two 5-blade cartridges. It's Harry's, a five blade wonder with flex in the cartridges that comes with a great ergonomic weighted handle. Harry's, the last razor I will ever buy. How do I know it's the last? Because I used the same 5-blade cartridge from New Year's 2021 to New Year's 2022, about 200 shaves, yes, a full year of shaving every day or two. Then I cleaned the blade as usual under running water - and put it back into its case, because it still was giving me shaves like the new one I replaced it with! Granted, I have a light beard, but still - 200 sharp shaves from one 5-blade cart? Unthinkable!

    I have a Mühle Traditional twist DE razor. I've noticed water would get trapped in the hole where the top cap screw together. My current and only way of drying it properly is completely disassembling it, shaking upside down and twisting paper towels to fit in the hole.
    I bought a set of Straw brushes to further scrub it well. Is this ok on the razor??

    I buy my 2 blade razors, (10 for $0.99) at The 99 Cents Only Store. I use each one for 3 - 4 shaves. I have a pretty stout beard, and these work just fine. I don't understand why people pay such ridiculous prices for razors. I also just use bar soap to lather my face.

    • @BigBeter
      @BigBeter 2 года назад +2

      Because it’s something that ends up being way cheaper in the long run after the initial cost of getting what you need. Plus depending what you get as a safety razor - it should last you a lifetime with proper care.
      To me I was tired of buying $30 5 packs of shick hydro 5 cartridges. I also had issues with ingrown hairs when it came to cartridge razors(especially cheap ones) So I invested a decent bit ($50ish) for a razor alone, and then $30 for soap and brush.
      The blades are dirt cheap to the point I can freely browse and try whatever blade I please at no major cost to me.
      While I do agree some people can go overboard and spend exorbitant amounts of money in this.(more power to them, their money anyway). It’s not a bad investment for one’s own grooming necessities, especially once all the initial costs are done with so all that’s left are soap costs and blade costs.

All there is now is finding the right straight razor. I would like the razor that I choose to be my first and only straight razor and the ti sparticus has been calling my name. i have never known anyone that takes up straight razor shaving settle on only one blade - most of us end with with at least a little collection.
      TI make good razors, but i'd worry a little about trying to learn with that Spartacus, just because the point needs your full attention all the time else you'll get a nice racing stripe. If you are set on it, and it's a great looking blade for sure, you may consider muting the point, so that it's duller and won't cut you so easily as you learn. You can do this by just rubbing the point on some glass or a stone. Then when you or someone else eventually hones the blade you can repeat the muting, or if you feel you are proficient by then with it, run it flat out.
