I've owned two PPS's at different times. Always were good shooters. I gave one to my nephew when he got out of the Marines. He loves it. The other one ended in my wife's purse. Everybody seems to love it. Now that they included the famous Walther trigger and grip. If I buy one (meaning I'm buying one), will have to be hidden.
The reason for them heaving the pps and the ccp is, because twho manufecturing facilityes, under the same brand, are competing with each other. The pps has the same proofmarks as the PPQ while the CCP has the same Proofmarkes as the P22. They are being produced in different reagons of Germany, hence the different proofmarks. They are being produced in different quality too. PPQ and PPS are higher quality and from the original manufacturing facility based out of Ulm.
You really aren’t that well informed. The PPS and CCP are two entirely different handguns. The CCP has a fixed barrel and hence a light spring for easy racking. The PPS M2 has a barrel, as well as trigger in line with the PPQ. The CCP is being marketed to folks that need an easy racking handgun.
Nice review and excellent close ups of the PPS at the end. I really like how you high light the detail up so close. A lot of YT channels have a tendency to do these huge products. You can tell when a small manufacture is handing out their guns to channels. WHen something like the RAS 47 from Century is on every other YT channel. And off course glowing reports too. Since, those channels have a "Quid Pro Quo," arrangement with some manufactures. Your channel is different. I get the impression you're giving us your honest impression of the firearm. You're forthcoming about the firearm you're discussing. Glad to see this channel is honest, sincere and credible. Keep up the great work. I truly appreciate the time, money and effort you put into your videos.
+Rick S Thanks for the nice comment. I do reviews for GunsAmerica from time to time, and those guns are T&E (except for some that I self-source). I have never had a T&E firearm for the Justin Opinion Channel, though I like to think I would not sacrifice my integrity out of gratitude for that. I do sometimes get holsters or related gear as T&E from small companies that would like me do a review. My deal is always that I'll say what I really think, but if it's going to be a bad review I'll tell them first and give them a chance to fix it if they can. Also FWIW, GunsAmerica has never once pressured me to have a positive opinion about a gun or any other product. We call 'em like we see 'em over there too. Sorry for the long-winded reply!
Great video, you made some excellent points and I enjoyed it. I bought the PPS M2 LE model a month ago and I've shot about 300 rounds through it. Really love the pistol and it's my carry gun. One disappointment: this past weekend, while shooting it I noticed that the phosphoric dot in the front sight had fallen out! Waiting for Walther to respond regarding what they may be willing to do about that. Worst case, it'll be an opportunity for me to upgrade to tritium sights ;)
Every time I come here to research a new carry gun you always have a review on it. Your reviews are excellent, very informative. I'm not sure why you don't have many more subscribers. Thank you.
Im definitely using "accuracy by proximity" in my next training class! I literally LOL'd and spit coffee on the computer when i read that! Outstanding!
Another great, pleasant-to-watch review. Thank you very much. I received a CCW license this week so am looking around. This gun is #1 choice at the moment. Be safe.
Thanks for the very informative review; I'm looking forward to examining one of these for myself. I'm now glad I didn't find a "classic" (M1?) PPS when I was looking for one a few weeks ago, because it looks like they fixed all the minor issues I had with the older design. Speaking just for myself, I'm also glad they went ahead with this even though they already had the CCP out there and it would seem to be targeting the same market. There are 3 main reasons I decided to pass on the CCP after reading about it and seeing it in person: 1) the weird / awkward / finicky takedown procedure that requires a tool 2) the manual safety and the gritty / mushy trigger on the specimen I eventually found 3) it apparently doesn't play nice with some +P ammunition
Very nice video. I just may have to get this version of the PPS, it looks great. I never really cared for the feel of the classic version in my hand. I guess my Shield 9 may be on notice and for no reason (it's been flawless). It's something about Walther (my P99s and PPXs that hooked me) and I still don't have a PPQ which may really be my next gun. Thanks again!
Great video!! I've been carrying the PPS .40 for 3 years but now I might have to purchase the new one! I like the front slide grooves on it, makes it look more of a top shelf type gun!! Glad to see Walther in the lime light now!!
Great review, your videos are always so pleasant and informative. I picked up the PPS M2 today and didn't have time to make it to the range, very eager to try it for myself.
I always enjoy your thorough reviews. I prefer the mag release of the PPS M1. There is virtually no chance of a mag release in my pocket or waistband. It is afterall, a deep cover pistol. Thank you again.
Walther and Cz are probably my favorite gun makers right now. They just make guns that have all the qualities you want at an affordable price. Pps m2 is definitely on my short list. Shot a shield and xds last week and they are fine but didn't prompt me to buy one. I could have got the shield used for $282 otd but really want to get my hands on this before I buy one
Cool vid. Great to see this so quickly, Justin! I have the M1 and definitely like it. The trigger is a little "grittier" than what I experience with my Shield and my XDS.
It's different. The XDs is really accurate and better at the range because of the weight. PPS is an easier carry, but is harder on your hand on the range. Both are excellent. XDS also has the ambidextrous mag release for lefties and a 4" barrel that is a super soft shooter. Again, both are excellent.
After scanning the comments, I'm a bit surprised why more people weren't questioning why the shots were going so high. I could see the frustration in your face when they were going high. I know because I had the SAME exact problem with my PPS. I have to aim quite low to be accurate with mine. I've seen many videos where the shooter is spot on. Guess I have some sight adjustments to make.
I love your reviews. I am left handed. The magazine release looks like it is located in a spot on the gun where the trigger finger looks like it passes over it. I saw you shooting it left handed in the beginning of this video. Has the magazine ever actually engaged by accident during left handed operation? Thanks
J.O. great job once again. always excited to see new content on your chanel. 1st hundo, slug fest, comparison vids all great stuff! keep up the awesome work.
I really liked the origianl PPS, including the inter-changeable back strap. The only thing I didn't really care for was the ergonomics of the grip with and w/o a magazine. Occasionally I would pinch my hand when trying to do a fast reload. That could easily just be my particular hands. It was an excellent shooting pistol overall. Looks good with the new grip and contours, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. I actually expected to hear something on the brass shavings issue that you experienced with your PPS gen1. Does the PPS M2 shave off brass casings in the same fashion?
+aiv online I actually did address it, but cut it out in the interest of time. And because there really wasn't much of anything to report - the M2 was MUCH cleaner after shooting than the M1 was. Negligible brass shavings. The center "pusher" of the slide still accumulates some, but not as much.
I bought one yesterday. The popular gun shop where I got it just put it in the case. I like the changes a lot especially the grip. Have not shot it yet.
Just bought the original version of thIs gun in a .40 cal. on a whim thinking it would replace my Ruger LCP .380 .I didn't realize it had no safety until I brought it home which wouldn't of been such a big deal but the trigger is crisp and carrying it chambered could be dangerous .My LCP has a long trigger pull and would be very hard to accidentally discharging it.I love the feel of the Walther so I will use it for a home defense weapon.
Nice review as I'm looking at single stacks and this one is on the list. Also like to see a shooter who is holding that trigger properly on after shot release. Watched a lot of your reviews and subbed!
Great review... How would you gauge the difference in shooting the CCP and the PPS M2? I have a PPQ and want something more concealable and until now thought the CCP would be the next purchase.
I remember one guy tried to say the slide coming back was what created recoil, so how does he explain revolvers? I think its the slide and recoil spring that makes them softer shooters than revolvers.
Thank you so much for the great video. I've been shooting my PPQ M2 for two years now and I just love it. I was hoping Walther would make a small single stack version for carry. The CCP fell short of expectation. I'm really excited about PPS M2.
At 10 meters my PPS is dead on. 25 too. The PPS 1 and 2 slides are interchangeable, the mags not being the same was a deliberate move to make more money. Those mags are expensive.
as with all of J.O.s 1st hundo, slug fest, comparison vids, etc. great great work! always get excited when new content is posted on your chanel. keep up the good work and can't wait for more vids
It looks like that, despite the update, they kept the same sights. That's awesome since there's already great options for night sights out there. Get this and put some on some Trijicon hd sights and you have one hell of a carry pistol. I want one.
Well, rats. I really like the PPS but always held off due to price. Over the past year, the prices dropped quite a bit so I picked one up 3-4 months ago -- all the while with a small concern at the back of my mind that maybe a new one was in the offing. I didn't wait and NOW they come out with M2! I haven't seen anything to justify the swap from M1 to M2 as attractive as the M2 may be.
Hi Justin! Did you ever reconcile why someone would want a CCP over the PPS M2? Definitely would be interested in seeing a video with a comparison and your take on it. Thanks for putting this out video there!
+Bskijr That direct comparison is next on my list to do. If the weather ever breaks here in the east and I can get to the range! Stay tuned - it's coming.
This week Midway USA has the 8 round magazines for $36.00 for the PPS M2. Vedder has a new PPS M2 paddle holster for $54.00 new just this week. My favorit hoster for the PPS M 2 is the Vedder LightDraw OWB 10 degrees forward cant with (pancake wings).
I'm not sure if you ruined my day or not. just ordered a PPS m1 then immediately saw this video with the new great Walther grips. However, I like paddle mag releases so I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or not. if I am, its your fault. thanks for the vid, keep em coming.
+Jimmy Marini Blaming others for our bad decisions is, after all, as American as apple pie. ;-) I think you'll be quite pleased with the 'M1'. I haven't tossed mine out.
The comparison with the PPQ made it look like it's really not that much smaller especially with the 7rd mag. I'm looking for. EDC pocket gun and was hoping this would fit the bill but afraid it's too big still. Any comments on that? Thanks
+Brian McDonald Much smaller than it appears in that respect. The two critical dimensions for carry are thickness and height. With the flush magazine, it is very short and would not easily print - and it is razor thin and just under 1 inch. I recommend trying to find one in a store and hold it.
Hi Justin - have you figured out what might be causing the brass scrapping deposit inside the slide? I just picked up my new PPS M2 from an FFL dealer. I field stripped the gun when I got it home and discovered the same yellowish scrapping although less of it. As I stated I have not fired the weapon yet. In the PPS M2 manual on page 30, Section 5.4 Lubrication, fig. 2 there is a picture. I can see what appears to be the same scrapping in the picture in Walther's manual. The picture is black and white but it is clear. What are your thoughts? I'm wondering if it is something minor being that our concern is shown in the manual. I didn't read the whole thread so I apologize in advance if the answer is posted.
+Gregory Wright Some of that is likely a lubricant they use at the factory. Glock uses a similar lubricant that is darker in color by also metallic looking. I'm not concerned about that unless it becomes an obvious buildup of brass or I see brass shavings in the slide after use - as I did initially on the PPS M1. Let me know what you see after some range time.
AWESOME review! You asked: "Why would you get a CCP when ya got the new PPS m2"? 19:03 For me, I am getting both. The CCP has the appeal of a lighter recoil, easier to rack slide and a thumb safety. Plus ergonomics. The PPS most certainly has a better trigger and now with the new grip design it ups the game in ergonomics also. I think Walther is right on track with this PPS! I am gonna hold out for the PPS m2 LE.
Shrinking the PPQ (a la G26, P30SK, VP9SK, XD 3.0, etc..) would probably go over quite well for them. I know it would temp me because the PPQ shoots much better than the PPS. Not that the PPS is bad, it's great for what it is; but the small single stacks are always a bit harder to shoot.
I got one of these....shoots great, no issues. My oldest son has a original Walther PPS(called the classic model) now...it shoots great too. I think these guns are a good alternative to the shield, and out of the box a better trigger than a glock. It seems the fit and finish is better than a shield. The only downfall, is that there are not as many holster choices as a shield. They do offer a 8rd mag also. The mags can be alittle pricey compared to like glock mags. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the great video, very informative. At the present time,my edc,is a Walther PPS, and a G26. mostly the PPS. I have shot over 2000 rounds through the Walther and really happy with it,accuracy is amazing, reliability, has been perfect........was thinking, may get an M2......but actually will hang on to my PPS......I have talon grips on it and night sights. I bought a shield a while back to compare with the PPS, the shield is an accurate and reliable shooter,no doubt.....in my opinion, the PPS is a better made gun,and just feels better to me than the Shield, didn't carry the Shield, but would think it would be a good carry gun.....
Personally think they should have kept the old pps lower front end were the rail goes. Think it looks better. Aside from that, all the new design features look better and make an overall improvement in ergonomics.
PLEASE! Can you let us know is the magazine release reversible like it is on the PPQ m2? Pretty important to some of us lefty's. I've asked all over the place and can't see to get a straight answer!
Nice review and nice gun. I just wish Outdoor media would tell the truth about those great mag options. There are zero PPS M2 mags available in the country.
+Chad B. It's not unusual (to be loved by anyone...), ahem, for that situation to exist when a new model comes out - especially an import. They hoard all the mags for the gun supply, until they get the distributor and dealer pipeline stabilized. By spring that should loosen up.
Haven't had a PPS(yet), BUT, I have had a CCP.(original model) the CCP is Definitely a "Soft" shooter. Light recoil. Just hated needing a special tool for take down.
I do love the PPS. I just cant get myself to carry a single stack firearm. I owned a PPS and loved it. Bu I cant get past limiting myself to so few rounds with two mags. Not when I can have 11 in the gun and 17 as a back up mag with a G26.
+mk45gunnr I hear ya! For me, there are times when I just don't have the space for a IWB double-stack, and a single-stack with a spare is certainly good in those cases. Given the choice, a double-stack .45 gets my pick every time. ;-)
You stated the mag release is reversible, that's the first I've heard of that, most reviews state that it is not. Is their a video on switching over the mag release for lefties?
Thanks for the review. I owned the original PPS and every other Walther they make and 4 or 5 H&k pistols. Btw the reason you would get the PPS M2 over the CCP is because that pistol is garbage. I ordered the CCP and sold it within a couple hours of picking it up. The trigger was so bad that you wouldn't believe it was a Walther. Can't wait for my Walther PPS M2 to get here. Just ordered it a couple days ago. Still gonna keep my glock 43 though. Walther and H&K are the best Guns available. Just ordered a .40 cal Steyr as well as a 9mm. Can't wait to see how they stack up to the Walther and H&K's. Thanks again for the reviews.
+molnii48150 It will depend on how tightly the first holster was fitted to the gun. The M2 has a squared slide and muzzle, as opposed to the angled (narrower at the top) slide of the M1. The M1 has a mounting rail on the dust cover that the M2 does not. So some things would fit in one direction but maybe not the other...
+David H (Gladiator) Good observation. Two things on that: 1) The ergonomic changes are enough to alter the grip and change the way a shooter shoot it; 2) I always offer the caveat "with this shooter on this day", meaning that I can just have better or worse days as a shooter (Lord knows my IDPA scores will attest to that!). I can't draw a conclusion, but it's possible.
Taking my cc class at the beginning of Feb. I believe this will be the gun I'm going to buy and carry. Thanks for the very early review of this new version it helped solidify my decision of getting it!
still carrying this
I've owned two PPS's at different times. Always were good shooters. I gave one to my nephew when he got out of the Marines. He loves it. The other one ended in my wife's purse. Everybody seems to love it. Now that they included the famous Walther trigger and grip. If I buy one (meaning I'm buying one), will have to be hidden.
Wow I wasn't expecting this so soon! Thanks for all the hard work!

@@jarrettwoolfolk2169 Is the mag release that much better?
Thanks for the very informative review; I'm looking forward to examining one of these for myself. I'm now glad I didn't find a "classic" (M1?) PPS when I was looking for one a few weeks ago, because it looks like they fixed all the minor issues I had with the older design.

+Justin Opinion - thank you for getting back in touch. I'll be at the range Saturday morning.
If you like your PPQ you can get one in a lighter smaller brother model. Thanks for another great rev.iew
I would take that over my shield. I like the shield alot
I'm in the same boat and my Shield has been flawless. But I already have four Walters and they are great guns.
It's always a hard decision with guns. I just want to keep buying them
+JOEY Simps (Jozy) Apples and oranges. Both are great guns. Love my shield and my 9c. Wouldn't mind having one of these.
My PPS was my EDC, but i had to take it out of rotation because of its limited capacity. Still a very nice pistol however.
AWESOME review! You asked: "Why would you get a CCP when ya got the new PPS m2"? 19:03
For me, I am getting both.
Awesome, this really ups the PPS's value to me, I hated the grip and the nicer trigger is a big plus too.
Hi Justin, are interchangeable slide between the first model and m2?
Thank you.
Thanks for the video.
glockster68 have you tried Hornady critical defense rounds. heard they have feeding issues with those.
yes and they fed fine in both guns.....no issues. I carry Federal HST in mine as does my son.
glockster68 cool thanks for the quick reply
Another great review. Anymore revolver reviews in the pipeline?
+Tyrannosaurus10 I will try to find out.
+Justin Opinion Thank you! It's much appreciated and I anxiously await to hear what you find out.
Have to admit I prefer the classic lines of the original pps and paddle mage release...although it was a bit boxy in the hand.
Excellent review and channel. Do you prefer it over the G43?
+Kyushoguy1 Not quite yet. It will take more rounds and some holster time to make a good comparison there.
Thank you kindly. I look forward to your upcoming reviews and comparison of both.
how does it compare to the glock 43 and the XDS ?
Hi Justin, do you prefer the pps m2 over the glock 43? Looking at getting one of the two.
+TheCandyman316 Not yet... I'll have to get hundreds more rounds through it. But it would be on my short list for sure. It's a contender.
+Justin Opinion, After shooting mine today it's worth the wait! It's better IMO than a XDS with trigger upgrade & Shield with trigger upgrade.
I just picked one up yesterday. So, they are out there.
+Ask4theCloser Pricing?
I am in the PNW, and it was 459.95.
Haven't had a PPS(yet), BUT, I have had a CCP.(original model) the CCP is Definitely a "Soft" shooter. Light recoil.
Just hated needing a special tool for take down.
Which do you prefer between the ccp and pps m2?
In the first pps m1 part 2 you found brass shavings. is this still happening? I really like this gun but would like to know before I buy. thanks
+Les A This gun didn't exhibit that condition. Also, FWIW the M1 has improved as it breaks in.
Given the choice, a double-stack .45 gets my pick every time. ;-)
Justin Opinion amen! nothing wrong with a double stack 45!
I really enjoy shooting my M2. Quality is very noticeable. Hundreds of rounds not one malfunction.
Hello is the grip longer than the shield?
Will the M2 fit in the same holster as the M1? Thanks for the review!
I can't decide between this and a ruger lcrx 38 special plus p. :(
must be one of top 2-5 to review the actual gun! and shoot
thanks!!!
I think Apex makes a trigger for this, which would be amazing!!!
Im waiting for the 40 cal version. Coming in the spring I believe
Good review as always. If I ever buy a single stack I think this would be it.
Thanks!
In the current video you seem to suggest that the M1 may be more accurate than the M2. You did seem to shoot better with the M1 in you PPS M1 video.
