raptors are great when theyre running but they are riddled with quality issues and just too risky proposition, this on the other hand whilst not as wild as the raprtor is fine more subdued cheaper and bulletproof like most toyota products
It's a real shame that they didn't take the opportunity to incorporate stuff like wider body panels (not oversized flares), the AWD transfer case from the Prado to give more capability and further differentiate it in the Hilux range. Given they are obviously keeping the 2.8 in the next gen Prado, it is strange they haven't further developed it from a power/litre perspective. If they made as much torque per litre as the biturbo Ranger it would make 700Nm. 550Nm brings it in line with the 2.3 Nav and new 2.4 Triton. Only Mazda/Isuzu have a lower specific output. Not saying it needs 700Nm, but 550 is hardly ground breaking. On the subject of "digital" tech, I'd take analogue gauges over a digital display and actual buttons over a large central screen. It's a vehicle, not an ipad.
Hilux and Fortuner has it share of class actions , burning thru oil brakes malfunctioning and faulty deisel toxic partial filters poisoning the public.
Mate all new models have bugs. Ford iron them out pretty quick. Toyota buyers have to wait till 2030 to get all features tech that ford ranger has. Then by then ranger have more
@@rubytuesday1345 Toyota's recalled too. Deisel particle filter faulty actually there's a class action about it. Also alot of oil use and faulty brakes. Except ranger is new model Toyota isn't. U expect recalls in a new model. U don't in an old one.
Ranger Raptor is praised too much here because of the 3 liter V6 gas engine but Aussies never wondered what it's like if it had the 2 liter biturbo diesel instead which other markets get. Compared to that, this would definitely make more sense.
My main use will be on the road so maybe a ford would be better but I'll buy and keep forever so I'm thinking Toyota reliability for a long term ownership
i would buy a toyota Hilux for a relayability and its 4x4, and more the comes with it and i would buy it because im a person thats like going on long trips and going to the farm
If Toyota added a 3.0L v6 and an updated interior, bigger tyres with actual wide body instead of the fake wide flares it would be than a ranger raptor honestly
Toyota could have done better with AT tires, better infotainment, wider tray with USB options, more front and rear USB ports, better tuned engines,etc... Who are designing these utes????
i have one on order been waiting 9months and toyota give you the run around like it hasn't been ordered.... ohhh was coming in july now september they sting you a extra $1000 too for the wait
300 Kgs less payload, what is the GR supposed to be … it’s not like it’s a more practical or useful Raptor or a direct competitor. You cannot use this vehicle as a base for a touring set up or a tradie as you are already 300 kgs out of pocket. And all the journalists say it needs weight in it to settle the ride, so something is wrong with the setup. Toyota missed a big opportunity to build a Wildtrak X but with the GR engine and slightly more power and torque to smash it out of the park.
More technology more trouble, Rangers have far to much tech , for a 4x4 , mud , water , sand etc…. Doesn’t mix with technology, give me a Hilux any day
ehh, I dunno, I'd much prefer the Ford raptor, not only for comfort, but for technological features as well, in the infotainment system. alot of buttons as well that have it's own purpose. Hilux is the best for old peeps who likes more rugged feel and stiff steering.
As the guy says, if you want to make a lot of noise and have a more refined drive then go for the Ranger. If you want a proper ute that can go off road, tow a boat all day and be reliable, well you’d better get a Hilux. Simple.
The thing that bugs me about all the different youtubers reviewing this car is they dont compare it to the Ranger that is at the same price point. Always comparing it to a Raptor. Raptor is way more expensive..like 25k. That Ford 10 speed auto is junk anyway and its in alot of Rangers. Who wants a huge ipad on the dash...too much distraction.
I am a big fan of toyota! But the hilux gr s is a joke!!! Its just a rouge with new suspension and a body kit! No big bump in power or a front diff lock!! Buying this would be a big waste of money!
For a mid size or smaller pick up “truck” that’s right bogans its not a Ute , at best it’s a light commercial vehicle which sits within a range of vehicles based on weight, Toyota hilux sport is essentially a sows ear pretending to be a silk purse. Attempting to sell it as bigger, what by a few centimetres is a con for a start, it’s still the same old SR5 with a few aesthetic changes, being flogged at a higher price. Toyota could at least mirror the Tacoma and sell that as the upgrade. Frankly car reviewers should call it out, not continue to flog what we don’t want. Keep your Thailand Tonkas in Asia thanks.
Some nice new updates inside and out of this crew-cab. But still the same pissy little motor blowing its guts out, and those ugly black plastic wheel arch bulges make it look cheap and nasty. It's not even a rival for the V6 Ranger XLT.
It's cheaper then a Ford Ranger Raptor because it isn't a Ford Ranger Raptor. There is NO comparison between the two. Its still the boring 2.8L diesel engine with no power and the same boring interior. Comparing the two is stupid because they're not even in the same league.
2.8:ltr same archaic power point ,lip stick on a pig more suited to a comparison with a triton or a Nissan pro r not even close to a raptor let Alone a ranger
Im a supper big Toyota costumer and have been driving toyota all my life. But toyota is falling behind every week ....more and more. Lots of money for the same toyota.
Toyota parts bin expert while charging high prices for nothing really new. Your better off for ranger or rapture. More tech features and better looking. Plus more reliable no Diesel filter gate. Just put some pretend performance racing badging. Look at that info screen 2010 look.

Sportiest yet? Did you forget there was one not long ago with upgraded brakes, Bilstein suspension and a supercharged V6 under the bonnet?
And it had a decent payload too so it could actually be used … plus, its suspension didn’t have dodgy spacer plates.
Judging by the huge line of Ford Rangers outside of OZ dealerships all with warranty issues, Toyota have nothing to worry about.
Hilux and Fortuner has it share of class actions , burning thru oil brakes malfunctioning and faulty deisel toxic partial filters poisoning the public.
Fugly outdated cheap and expensive . A few badges will entice the Toyota fanboys.
Mate all new models have bugs. Ford iron them out pretty quick.

Ranger recall in NZ too. I’ll stick to my Toyota.

Hilux number one for ever!Toy!❤
Much closer to a Wildtrak then a raptor.
Comparing this to a rafter is like comparing a Camry to a Mustang
The GR Hilux with 300kgs less payload than the Wildtrak doesn’t even make it useful as a work Ute or touring vehicle.
I would like to see some one make a performance chassis for the Hilux like what factory Five did for the Ford F-150
It's a ute, not a truck
It's a pick-up truck. Not a ute. Your's faithfully, the rest of the world.

The thing is in 20 years this will still be going while the others will be in the bin.
Great review as usual thanks Tom
"Cheaper than a Ranger Raptor". Well of course it is, because its not even in the same ballpark as the Raptor. Lol.
True especially as it won’t breakdown like a Raptor 😂
@@1129DSJ😂😂😂😂
Its just a 2015 hilux with a facelift. They havnt changed much in that mamy years

Talk about flogging a dead horse 🐎
2023 gr sport hilux vs 2023 hilux rogue side by side comparison video is needed
Love my GR. Toyota utes are indestructible. Ranger far to cheap and nasty and fault prone.
How can you compare it to a Raptor, it’s probably same price as a Ranger V6 Sport
And the v6 would be faster than it too!
I like this dude, he is funny😆.
Keep up the good work👍
What does the 2024 hilux rogue look like. All I see is reveiws and pictures of GR"s.
Regular oil changes make engines last longer.
i would buy a toyota Hilux for a relayability and its 4x4, and more the comes with it and i would buy it because im a person thats like going on long trips and going to the farm
Is it 2020 ancap crash tested or still a 3 star 2019 ancap tested vehicle
Hilux GR diesel the only way to go.
No petrol V6 for me
If Toyota added a 3.0L v6 and an updated interior, bigger tyres with actual wide body instead of the fake wide flares it would be than a ranger raptor honestly
Resale?
May have been mentioned. Could be better than other utes
Toyota could have done better with AT tires, better infotainment, wider tray with USB options, more front and rear USB ports, better tuned engines,etc...

An extra few grand for interior?
no MT right?

Got the gr sport 2023, its a great car, love it!
So they change a lot to make it better offroad, n yet dont factory fit a good set of all terrians?
Can it town 3.5 tonne though
nah but it can city it!
Yes

I know they made the hilux wider. But does that translate to the inside. The hilux is known to have a cramped back seat.
The width is only do with the track, it has an identical interior to the standard HiLux range.
-Tom
@carsguide I figured as much. I love the hilux but I need something a little more roomy. The Triton is looking pretty good
People need to stop comparing this to the raptor, it’s in a different class. Compare this to the wildtrack x
Mustang got media crucified when tested to 2020 tests and returned a 3 star, it was 5 star in 2019.

Toyota trying hard to refresh out dated model.
I’m a Toyota man through and through but honestly just buy an SR. 15mm height difference and 15kw in power difference for an extra 15k. No thank you.
The Raptor in a few years time must have bad resell value considering they are everywhere
Needs 33's

In Australia, this vehicle is Not a Truck !
It can be driven on a Car Learner Licence !
This is just a Rogue with a mild tune
You can get an xlt v6 ranger which is quicker for way cheaper 😂
Put then you're left with a Ford. That's not a good thing😂
Compare it with Wildtrak, NOT the Raptor.
It’s a ute mate, not a truck.
I love Toyota, but this just isn't good enough.
Im a Toyota man but this looks like some ebay bodykit special.
Them flares hahahahah
TRUCK !
perfect
It's just ugly with those flares.. With those tyres it looks like it skips legs days...always.
Comparing this to a Raptor is absolutely laughable. This can't even stand up to a Bi-Turbo Ranger sport let alone a V6 Diesel.
TOYOTA ❤️👍
