Love how she talked about trying to use different squads for different situations and then there was me trying to optimize my squads as much as possible for any situation so I never had to change them lol
This is why the game is also amazing... You can play it like you want to ! The best to me !

If anyone was wondering, DLC isn't currently planned (although, in a survey, they did ask if people would be interested).
In a recent interview with the game's producer, we learned about some of the game's cut content, though. For the most part, they only cut classes (like dancers, musicians, and musketeers), but he also mentioned a game mechanic where your unit's armor would have started to chip away as it received damage. The love and meticulous planning put into this game was already pretty damn impressive, but after reading the interview, I need to praise them even further. Such a creative team! Vanillaware does it again!
It was better than I expected, though perhaps not as good as it could have been. Very interested to see the next installment.
Granted we don't have many games do exactly what UO does. FE doesn't come close. Next installment will be better. There's not too much to fix in the sequel.
I think it's a good spring board for them, it's a very good game and if they continue the franchise the sequel have a really high chance to become a quality product... unless they try to reinvent the wheel, which can be a real pitfall to say the least. To be honest one of the features i would probably love the most would be less unique characters but each character get more proper back stories etc. Since custom generic characters is part of the system, they don't really need 60 characters, 30 would be more then enough and all of them having a proper unique class attached to them... I mean there was a portion where you recruited i think it's a total of four sword fighters in a row, none which are unique in any way or form except their appearance.
@@magnuscarlsson9969 Definitely less uniques is good. The army should be filled with mostly generics in these kinds of games
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 Yeah i don't mind having options but i felt sort of pushed into using the unique characters instead of making the best combinations. Then it felt as apart from the "main cast" of each chapter there wasn't much development going on.
For example I rather have more dialogue and events involving Rosalinde then effort wasted on essentially throw away characters.
When i did my hardest difficulty run i did it differently since i knew that most of the characters were just reskinned generic units with some dry dialogue... Which is fine and all, the games good enough to get away with it.
However i really believed in my first run that for example Lex would at some point get something unique which would set him apart from my generic fighter Agustus... but no and since i didn't waste a mirror on Lex to change his growths, he even ended up being worse around the mid-game when it came to the class's purpose.
I would to be fair be just fine if the unique characters simply had a choice. Lex(Or Clive) for example could just had been a character with the option of following purely in Josef's footsteps having the option of picking up the Paladin class without the "I'm the starter crutch" liabilities Josef have. Even better if Lex had a unique class for example "Crusader" where he have similar skills to Josef while being a infantry class instead of Cavalry.
Another thing would be that Lex have some unique traits which sets him apart, like for example increased affinity bonuses when teamed up with Alain. This sort of goes for all of the characters with special relationships, like for example the knights of the rose group, when in the same battalion they could get certain bonuses or skills they otherwise wouldn't have... That way making a group with these characters would make sense. It still works ofc. especially on lower difficulties but it's a horrible unit compared to more carefully selected units with better overall coverage or specialty. Which is okay i suppose, but at the same time it feels like a wasted opportunity.

Bought it awhile back, physical copy of course, and have loved it. It's a hell of a lot of fun and so many stories. Maybe not as many as they COULD have had, but I think plenty for every character to have some feeling of growth. It's a fantastic game.
So far this is the Game of the Year 2024 for me.
I loved this game! I'm not a huge strategy guy, but the mechanics are simple enough to where you can get by without too much stress. I hope to see more UO from Vanillaware, and I hope to see a highlights video of Crystal's playthrough! 😝
Man, I just wish this was on PC. I'd play it in a heartbeat.

The months of March-April just disappeared when I was playing this game.
The battle system in this game is an utter chef's kiss! The music is indeed a "yes" lol. The story and characters are fine, like you said; I don't want every game to be a mind melt (Although if you do the final battle before rescuing Scarlett.....)
It could do with a post-game though, I wasn't done tinkering with units by the time I ran out of battles. Sure, you get the sigils and they can give a couple of different scenarios but I couldn't really find anything to test my optimized teams against. Hopefully, we'll get some DLC
Played this game the entire month of March. Solid game
I loved how i could choose when and how to advance the story in almost any way i wanted, and how no character became bad because even in higher difficulties because i had the freedom to actually built them.
The music was tremendously good, especially those for final map chapters for each nation
Another thing i liked is that you could change the difficulty at any moment so if you felt stuck on a map you could try to see what makes it tick in lower difficulties and try again when you felt confident enough
One of the best games I've ever played, a 10 out of 10 for me

It's awesome, but I suck at it. Other than basic formations, I can't really get results. And there's so many options that I feel overwhelmed.
My one complaint is that I felt there wasn't enough interaction with the characters for me. It could have used a base or headquarters like Shining Force or Fire Emblem Engage had. But other than that it definitely filled the void that Sega created.
Yea, I think the characters were lacking. But I was only there for the gameplay anyway tbh.
I finished it a few weeks ago. I loved every hour of it.

Cannot wait to play this, I played the demo back then but then Rebirth consumed me for over a month and then Stellar Blade and now Dawntrail is coming out soon so going into another big game sounds risky so I better wait till after I'm done with Dawntrail. Hopefully it continues to sell well, I loved every minute of the demo.
I just wish they would have combined some of the single outpost mini battles into bigger ones. Other than that, it was great.

Vanillaware has lots of titles I would like, but they won't release anything on PC.
I've had my Collector's Edition for a good while... You might have just sold me on playing it with "Music is Yes" lol i gotta get to it.

This game is awesome, but it’s not for everybody. Story focused players probably will lose interest with the pretty bare bones plot, and players who don’t like getting super crunchy and building out synergies both within character skills and between multiple characters in each formation will probably start feeling frustrated with how much time you should be spending in menus tweaking and adjusting a million different variables.
For people that love that crap, though… woo boy are we eating good.
This is as niche as the genre gets tbh. Most of the fanbase comes from the Ogre Battle series
On the topic of long demos the first one that shocked me was the Dragon Quest XI Switch Demo.
Spent 16 hours mining and 8 hours fighting in colleseum in Unicorn Overlord because I'm too prideful of lowering difficulty only to give my ring to gammel(Changed it to Auch)
I'm still stuck in the higher levels of the Coliseum myself. I REALLY want Amalia though, she looks awesome

@@jakeguillero9804 Oh yeah I definitely cheesed my way through, cause if you can evade all attacks you only need to do 1 damage to win.
Just beat the game and it was great. If there is one gripe, I wish there were more rat bestials. I wanted a full Skaven squad.
Tringale Strategy is another amazing strategy RPG with tactics.

IDK if you already have but YOU MUST Play Odin Sphere either the original PS2 Version or the Enhanced Leifthrasir Version, the games are not only EXTREMELY FUN, also i think they have the BEST VANILLAWARE story only second to 13th Sentinels MAYBE.
I'm not sure which game to buy next after I'm done with DQ11S. Unicorn Overlord, SMTV Vengeance or Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Let's not kid ourselves, the story is about as basic and barebones as it gets. It's everything else around it that makes the game worth playing.
In a sense, it’s the anti 13 Sentinels, a game with okay gameplay that you got through to continue the incredibly interesting story.
Good ole Vanillaware, just swinging wide on that pendulum.
Shame, I loved Odin Sphere for its unique story
The story ITSELF is basic but the game keeps my attention with the subplots a ton. Those are very interesting imo.
@@LunaAndPals Oh definitely. The characters are very well written despite most of them being, as Crystahhhl said "basic bitches" And most of the subplots do tend to be better than the main story, it's a game that really rewards your exploration

The biggest complaint I have about this game is that I wish there was few more rapports, and more than just one rapport story that some characters have. Especially characters that join late game (if you know you know) having no rapports even though they have established relationships with other characters in your army is very disappointing, not to mention they don't even have one wirh Alain, making them impossible to romance which is kinda sad.
I just wish this game wasn't a console exclusive. When I was a teenager I was a massive Vanillaware fanboy. Their games were hard to come by in my country, but I would get everyone I could. Now I have to consider buying a console just to play one game. It's not worth it.
To be fair all vanillaware games are. They’re a small company that use their own custom engine

For me, the biggest flaw in the game was that it was too much Rock-Paper-Scissors, except it was one of those 100 variant RPS types. I had too many times where, I sent out unit A to counter unit B from the enemy, but then unit C from the forest or unit D from reinforcements hard-countered my other unit and nearly wiped it, that it forced me into a Murderball scenario just to avoid unit wipes, when I wasn't having individual cavalry/fliers snipe the towers. I'm not one who really likes building things, so making my own units with custom tactics really didn't hit for me.
Zipping around on the map and avoiding enemies to pick up on materials, on the other hand, that was fun. And they brought back Chocobo Hot/Cold from FF9 for this game, which was cool.
I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing that there's a surprise that mixes up the gameplay here and there..
@@epiclight858 Its less surprise and more about how punishing the surprise can be. You can have a great team comp, and then have that comp wiped due fairly easily if you hit a comp that hard-counters it, and with only 10 total teams, that can be devastating and cost you battles. That, for me, got frustrating towards the mid to end game.
The games balancing felt very strange to me. The game pretty much expects the player to change Units every battle, and that just isnt fun after a while. I had levels where a single Unit easily could whipe out the maps solo, and some where the same Unit was barely able to kill a single enemie unit and that on the same Level and Area. Im currently at the end of the Snow area, and i got so fed up with half my Units doing nothing and the other half barely surviving or killing everything that i just stopped. I really dont want to spend hours making the perfect Units only for them to be useless the next Map.
Hoping for a DLC, I need an excuse to replay the game for the third time. 🙃

Oh yeah, sure. You can replay the same exact battles, with the same exact unit formations & slightly different stats depending on the difficulty. You can waste away all of your free time....forever.

Also, stop calling it a tactical game; it's a strategic game. Yes, there is a difference.
Also no new game +. WHY! You only get some units at the end of the game so unless you are taking things slow you will have maybe an hour or two with some unique units and you'll probably just beat the game with mostly the base units that you've spent the most time using. The games progression is ASS.
You know Fire Emblem Engage made itself the least engaging game from the series when Crystaahhl of all people dunks on it
