Ponty is the top musician in my list not only because his technique is unmatched but because his compositions are way above the run of the mill Jazz/Fusion compositions!
As soon as he said he wanted to dedicate it to one of the greatest guitar players of all time .....l knew it was Alan! Saw him with Earthworks, and was blown away! l saw Jean Luc in 1982 when l was 16, and got to talk to Alan Zavod (l talked about Zappa hahaha!). l grew up dancing around my dad's living room playing this, and ALL the best jazz fusion in the world! l remember my dad coming through the door with a record, and said ''LOOK Hunny!!! l bought UK!!'' xD SO much thanks to these guys that wove an _amazing_ tapestry of wonderful sound trough so many lives!!
My favorite jazz fusion artist of all time. Started listening to his music back in 1979. My ears have never been the same again. Thank God for Jean-Luc Ponty and of course Rayford Griffin.
I was lucky enough to have bought a fourth row center seat ticket from a guy in Boulder the night of this concert. I had first seen JLP nearly 40 years earlier at the Glen Miller Ballroom at Colorado University. I was astounded at how amazing every one of these guys were musically. I especially enjoyed Jamie Glaser, the incredible guitarist. What a special treat for me in my lifetime!
Jean-Luc on top of his game. And Jamie Glaser's blazing solo starting at 6:40. Paying most respectful homage to Allan Holdsworth who Jean-Luc said one of the greatest guitar players of all-time!!!
40 years later and 30 years after I discovered him. Underrated for sure but everyone likes it who has an open mind. Jazz-fusion as a category gets little attention. Frank Zappa roots turned into one of the greatest to transcend any genre. Keep going forever!!!
This got my like. The other day I plated up an old Jean Luc Ponty LP and wondered what he's been up to. I had no idea he was still playing live. An extraordinary performance. I do wish we'd seen more of Rayford Griffin on this video though. All Jean-Luc's band members are as outstanding as he is himself.
Drummer Rayford is INSANE!! 🌹😁 A blend of Cobham power and meter, with Michael Walden’s brilliance. Yet with his OWN sound! Ponty’s best drummer IMHO, and I’ve seen Ponty with 5 other drummers..
I would listen to Jean back in junior high school In the mid 80s when I was a teen doing BMX AND SKATEBOARDING . HIS MUSIC WOULD INSPIRE ME FOR DECADES
The band did an impressive job but the violin player still the same: Maestro Jean-Luc Ponty, an innovator for fusion music and violin. He deserve to be compared to Holdsworth for his works. Awesome man. So respects for him. Long life Maestro!
I hear strains of Zappa's "Montana" throughout. Seeing JLP tonight at a free concert... last time was way back in 1976 at UConn when he opened for... the Kinks!
Great music like this is timeless. Musicianship is top notch. Shout out to my buddy Jamie Glaser for some very tasteful playing and a shout out to the great JLP for dedicating this to the one of a kind late/great Allan Holdsworth.
JAMIE,,, OLD FRIEND,,, JEEZ!!!,,,, YOU ADDED HENDRIX TO HOLDSWORTH,,,,, ONLY YOU COULD DO THIS,,,,, HEARD THE ORIGINAL TRACK 5,000 TIMES,,,,, SERIOUSLY,,,,, ALLAN'S SOLO HAS BEEN UNDUPLICATED BY ANYBODY UNTIL NOW,,,,, THIS IS A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE !!!!! SINCERELY, RANDALL EVANS
Oh, seriously? Exactly when maestro stop playing, giving a way to that "solo" about nothing exactly, which one can tell from the face of that guitarist... very poor...
Thank God 4 1 named Frank Zappa!!! Ponty, George Duke were highly influenced by his musical genius. Listen to some early F.Z, some Mother's of Invention...signatures then and now!!!
Epic composition. Hard to learn. Harder to play but we tried anyway. Here's our live cover from 1979, audio only: ruclips.net/video/7Q1XJXdCp9w/видео.html
holdsworth el guitarrista que mas me ha costado comprender pero al entender su musica nunca me ha gustado de gustar, al igual que Frank zappa un genio en todo orden de cosas, director , composittor, interprete etc..
Ponty is the top musician in my list not only because his technique is unmatched but because his compositions are way above the run of the mill Jazz/Fusion compositions!
True all...and a fabulous band leader!
Generous and respectful of his musicians, professional and fun 🌹
Agreed. His music has been one of the soundtracks of my life since the '70s.
As soon as he said he wanted to dedicate it to one of the greatest guitar players of all time .....l knew it was Alan! When he said hey hunny l bought UK, she had no idea what she was in for
Theresa you were so lucky.
My favorite jazz fusion artist of all time. Started listening to his music back in 1979. My ears have never been the same again. Thank God for Jean-Luc Ponty and of course Rayford Griffin.
1979 was my first JLP concert. Haven't stopped seeing him since then. MICHIGAN
He made me true musician in music school 92 I play and practice everyday. I'm almost that good. I'll get it!
I was lucky enough to have bought a fourth row center seat ticket from a guy in Boulder the night of this concert. I had first seen JLP nearly 40 years earlier at the Glen Miller Ballroom at Colorado University. I was astounded at how amazing every one of these guys were musically. Wonderful post! Love the tribute to Allan Holdsworth. Some of his best work was with Ponty.
Jamie absolutely brilliant, as always. A reference point for me.
Jean-Luc on top of his game. And Jamie Glaser's blazing solo starting at 6:40. Paying most respectful homage to Allan Holdsworth who Jean-Luc said one of the greatest guitar players of all-time!!!
Truly scorching Glaser solo!😎👍🎼🎸
40 years later and 30 years after I discovered him. Underrated for sure but everyone likes it who has an open mind. Jazz-fusion as a category gets little attention. Frank Zappa roots turned into one of the greatest to transcend any genre. Keep going forever!!!
Have every JLP album in the 70's, what was surely his highest most creative decade and still sounds amazing today
I'm always taken a back on his solo in Fifty-Fifty. It truly sounded like nothing a Zappa record had ever heard.
JAZZ ROCK FUSION RULES!
Many thanks for this video!😎👍🎼🎸🎻
My favorite track ever by J-L Ponty with In Spite of All!
Me too! These 2 and then the TURTLE after.
This got my like. The other day I plated up an old Jean Luc Ponty LP and wondered what he's been up to. I had no idea he was still playing live. An extraordinary performance. WOW!!! Jamie!! beyond amazing,...Thank You for all these years ,....so great.
Agree ! Jamie really shows his high artistry ! He never fails to bring his "A" game ! The guy on the violin is pretty good too !
One of the tunes that turned me on to jazz fusion. Now one of my friends is performing this on this stage. GO Jamie....You Rock!
thanks much Marty
right on, same here (the JLP fusion turn-on) - 40-whatever years on the studio & live versions still sound like the future to me!
JLP is still a live and kicking, but the guitarist Jamie is also Living up to his Best!
I love that record. Ralph Armstrong on bass, Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Steve Smith on drums. Classic.
Only discovered it recently and it slaps
‘Twas my first exposure to Allan Holdsworth’s genius.
So uplifting to hear Jean acknowledge Alan Holdsworth in this exquisite performance and post! Thanks Arioki272!
The way they’re so locked into the groove is orgasmic.
Drummer Rayford is INSANE!! 🌹😁
A blend of Cobham power and meter, with Michael Walden’s brilliance.
Yet with his OWN sound!
Ponty’s best drummer IMHO, and I’ve seen Ponty with 5 other drummers..
I don’t know. Rayford is a master. Casey Schurell. A god. Imho 😊
@RtaniDean
I like Casey .. I saw him with Brand X but I wouldn’t go that far..however what do I know 🤷🏾
Hard to call but my favourites are Steve Smith and the late great Mark Craney.
this man is just amazin!!!!!! very underrated !! love ponty
I saw these exact same fantastic guys in 1988 in Sacramento…so good to see them all again!
Ever since, I just about wore my vinyl JLP albums out.
I would listen to Jean back in junior high school In the mid 80s when I was a teen doing BMX AND SKATEBOARDING . HIS MUSIC WOULD INSPIRE ME FOR DECADES
amazing combo Mr.! BMX and JLP!!
"WOW" GREAT MUSIC FOR WHAT YOU WERE DOING, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ON YOUR SIDE, GOD BLESS FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA"...

Te procuro sempre. Conheci os seus trabalhos há 31 anos atrás. Te amo banda. Leda
That's a beautiful thing Jean Luc Ponty does.
I LOVE Jamie's guitar playing ! So fucking tasty!!
75 years old still coolest
Saw the show at Chene Park in Detroit eight days later. Awesome show! Favourite musician of all time.

Detroiters LOVE Jean-Luc Ponty!
J'ADORE Jean Luc Ponty depuis ses débuts ! (un batteur professionnel )

He was a pioneer of Bassists synthesis
True performance musician!
Nice shout out to Allan. JLP never disappoints! Saw him on this tour.
Brilliant performance!
RIP Alan :(
Great album. Surprised J-L P didn't mention Allan Zavod (RIP), who played keyboards.
Jean Luc is my greatest mentor
And you are an incredibly gifted guitarist; emulating AH is a challenging and appreciative task I would hope!
He's THE maestro with Didier Lockwood. The two are just incredibles. I love J-L Ponty and D. Lockwood forever! They are my violin maestros.
Congratulations for the performance! What a playing! Wonderful! You're a virtuoso and a spiritual son to Allan Holdsworth and Jean Luc Ponty!
Mr. Glaser, I liked the way you spoke about Allan Holdsworth.
@@ulrichrohde4071 I sure loved him. Thanks
Jaime Glasser simply awesome....

( 6:25 ) JAMIE GLASER !!!!! HOLY MOTHER OF ALL GUITAR SOLOS !!!!!!
wowie , thanks so very much
If Allan (RIP) would have been among us and if he'd be asked to replace Jamie on this tour, I bet he'd call Jamie to buy HIS amp.
JAMIE IS INCREDIBLE!!!
I hear strains of Zappa's "Montana" throughout. Seeing JLP tonight at a free concert... last time was way back in 1976 at UConn when he opened for... the Kinks!
Yeah, you can usually hear Zappa in Ponty.
Great music like this is timeless. Musicianship is top notch. Shout out to my buddy Jamie Glaser for some very tasteful playing and a shout out to the great JLP for dedicating this to the one of a kind late/great Allan Holdsworth.

I can not imagine future without JLP the master
Just a legend he’s as talented as Nile Rogers in terms of Jazz Funk
I’d say he’s beyond that man he played with Mahavishnu orchestra and Zappa
6:22 is when my favorite part kicks off. Nice job!
Oh, seriously? Exactly when maestro stop playing, giving a way to that "solo" about nothing exactly, which one can tell from the face of that guitarist... very poor...
Let alone his faces and even, perhaps, his feelings - he's playing NO REAL STORY, NO INTERESTING SCALES OR ANYTHING INTERESTING /IMO/... sorry...
GREAT TO SEE YOU OLD PAL, JAMIE GLASER,,,, AWESOME SUPERB GUITAR SOLO-
I CAN GUARANTEE ALLAN HOLDSWORTH IS LOVING THIS FROM PARADISE !!!!

Wasn't this allan holdsworth and daryl stuermer originally? Just wondering if stuermer is still around?
@enricopallazzo2987
Yep
Jamie is one bad mother!!!!
Diz a lenda que : quem nasceu primeiro foi o violino ou Jean luc Ponty

Waww I want buy zeta violin someone hire?
Allan Holdsworth actually had to stand there for part 3 ^^
Did you mean Part 1? I apologize for any miscommunication.
