JEAN LUC PONTY IS THE GREATEST GENIUS ON THE PLANET, I DELIGHTED LISTENING TO HIS MUSIC, FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO. JULIÁN UBEDA GREETS YOU FROM ARGENTINA
Actually there are some live videos of him playing on 2018 and you can tell he's in good shape for someone that is, almost, 80 years old. I hope I could have a chance to see him on a live show
I saw this guy live. The band went for a break. The drummer kept playing the whole time for ten minutes solo, brought the house down, then the band came back out and just joined in again. The guy is a force of nature. Incredible talent. Thank God for people like this, or the randomness of the universe if you please 🥂😎
His is timeless. Mystical magical. Drummer for a lot of yrs I appreciate his syncopated pollyrythm beats in his material. I've been a fan of his since he was introduced to use threw Zappa.
This is more "acoustic" and less "fusion" than the original. I think the original is among Ponty's finest work. The entire Enigmatic Ocean album is a masterpiece. Alan Holdsworth's guitar sounds like a saxophone in parts.
Oh, yeah, Enigmatic Ocean is great, every time I listen the album I enjoy more of the finest details of the tracks. The guitar on the struggle of the turtle to the sea p3 is a master lesson of guitar playing.
It's a live performance. And appreciate it for what it is. To me it seems more like freeform jazz where the studio version sounds more like Progressive Jazz on the fringes of progressive rock. I do agree with you that's the best JL ponty album, but they're all good. Even some of the cheesier late 80's ones have their moments.
I remember hearing this in 77 when it was new. Ralphe Armstrongs playing induced me to become a bassist. Seeing this with Guy Nsangue just killing it makes me smile.
After I had been playing drums for a couple years, when I was 13 a friend turned me on to Enigmatic Ocean. Steve Smith (Journey's drummer) was phenomenal and huge influence. I worked on all of JLP's albums and then spend a couple years searching for a jazz violist that wanted to play his music and other ambitious material. We covered Trans Love express and Enigmatic Ocean off that LP and a number of other songs, some Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra. I really wanted to cover this piece, but for some reason Pat, the violin player said, "I don't know. It just doesn't do much for me." So we never worked on it.
I was introduced to JLP back in the 70's when he brought out Imaginary Voyage! Wow. Still all these years, he and his band are incredible. That drummer is Fast.
Same here - Imaginary Voyage was my JLP introduction. The Enigmatic Ocean tour was my first live view. I remember Ralphe Armstrong blowing me away on bass at that show.
Grande JLP!
That Ralphe Armstrong bass solo on the original recorded version of "Struggle Of The Turtle To The Sea - Part 3" is still light years ahead of what any of these cats in JLP's band are doing in this video.
No no. Bass and drums are same level as '77 musicians, the rest I agree, JLP due to his age, but listen, how beautifully perfect he can play his written melodies!
Just simply good music that only gets better as u get wiser keep doind your THING come to detroit u no we have tha worlds largest freee jazz concert and we appreciate good music your MUSIC FOREVER JL PONTY
Incredible. What more can be said? All these guys are amazing. So glad I decided to dig out my classic Jean-Luc Ponty LP the other day or I'd never thought to look this up!
One of the best live performances ever! Everyone one this track is fantastic. Just a wonderful musical performance. PURE GENIUS. One of my favorite compositions by far. I simply love this song!
(de >>>ruclips.net/video/ag6t69wRS60/видео.html )
JKLP can do what he likes as far as I am concerned - including playing withouth a guitarist - he has given so much musical pleasure over the years. And when you have been playing the same track for nearly 40 years its understandable if JLP wants to change it up a bit. He is taking a leaf out of Bily Cobham and Stanley Clarke's book by refreshing the music via young new talented musicians. I am a complete Holdsworth nut but this is a lovely reworking of this classic track. Long live JLP! And btw, does anyone know if there was ever any video footage of the few live gigs Holdsworh played with JLP to support the Enigmatic Ocean album - I would give my left kidney to see that?!
Pretty ambitious to attempt part 3 live. While fairly good, it just falls woefully short of the studio version. To me it's the gold standard of jazz fusion.
Lets be honest do we really care about turtles to the sea or is it just a good name for a song . com on , when is the last time you hypocrites went to the beach to save a turtle ....?
jajajaja amigo mio!
Bums me out that he got rid of guitar players cause he thought they were stealing his thunder. He's too good to be that way. Petty and small. Very disappointing.
I’m so thankful my dad raised me on good music. Jean luc has been a sunny day staple in my house since I’ve been alive.

I've grown up with Jean Luc, thank god. He makes life better.
God bless Jean Luc Ponty, I hope he lives 100 years more. A legend of the music!

I love hearing great musicians like that.

I was thinking the same thing here something just wasn't clicking here like it was with the original.
Oh, yeah, Enigmatic Ocean is great, every time I listen the album I enjoy more of the finest details of the tracks. The guitar on the struggle of the turtle to the sea p3 is a master lesson of guitar playing.

Nobody can do Alan but Holdsworth.

My favorite musician ever
JLP is and was responsible for me appreciating all the awesome musicians over the years. JLP was an institution like Zappa !
Saw these guys 11 years ago at Cork Jazz festival. Never saw anything like it before or since.
After I had been playing drums for a couple years, when I was 13 a friend turned me on to Enigmatic Ocean. Steve Smith (Journey's drummer) was phenomenal and huge influence. Fantastic drumming there.

Welcome to jazz rock fusion 1977. All 3 parts of the struggle of the turtle. Damn Ralphe! Alan! Jlp & Jamie glaser.
Drummer is out of this world? Amazing
I believe the drummer is Damien Schmitt.

I agree, this jlp lite

This music is exciting, catchy and elegant! Being a sort of bass player, the bassist is amazing. I also like the camaraderie between the musicians.

Very disappointing is right, you might want to ask the great Jamie Glaser, JLP and Jamie have been touring together but of course you don't know shit.
