I am 68 years old and Pat's music are part of my life since early eighties. I consider his songs as a part of the soundtrack of my life and I had the pleasure of listen to him and his group at Jazzmania (a night club in Rio de Janeiro) fourty years ago. I just love this guy and his wonderfull work.
I'm 56 years old @@markrudis4419 and Cadu Lacerda I'm rolling with you both on this one. As a matter of fact this was the first Pat Metheny Group tune I heard back in 1982 when 'Offramp' was released. Been a fan ever since.
58 and still a superfan. The guitar player in my high school band (I’m keyboards) turned me on to Pat at a show in 1981 in Asbury Park NJ. Saw Lyle on the boardwalk afterwards but was too awestruck to say anything to him. Been fortunate to attend several shows since ( NY,Red Bank,New Brunswick) and feel supremely grateful to have been in the presence of such genius.
Hi Emily, I’ve known Pat since 1976 when I attended Berklee. Unfortunately, Lyle (keyboards) has passed on. The original PMG was Pat, Lyle, Danny and Mark. Since then and up until Lyle’s passing it was primarily Pat & Lyle with Steve Rodby (bass) as their nucleus with a revolving door of amazing musicians. They are unique …
I have a funny story to share. It was the 80s when I was turned on to him. My brother told me about him and said he had a couple tickets and asked if I would like to join him to the event. I said sure having no idea who this guy was. I told my girl friend, she said who? Pat my thingy??? I laughed. So my brother and I went to the paramount in Seattle Washington where he was performing and went insid, got seated and this band came in from the rear where we come in before getting seated. They were playing this offbeated, off tune music, I'm like that's it I'm not listening to this shit for 3 hrs. And as they started approaching the stage their music turned into this beautiful tune. I wanted to cry. I have never missed him since when he comes to town. What a cool arrangement for the fusion jazz world to enjoy. THANK YOU PAT! FOREVER YOUR FAN.
I found Pat in the 70's. All by happenstance. For me, this is his most evocative, emotional piece. RIP Lyle. You forever take me back to when I first found you. Thank you.
an amazing rendition. superb trumpet. that guitar is from another world. only Pat could conjure up an instrument for a specific sound that is so fitting. but so sad about Lyle. RIP.
Pat Metheny is from both the stratosphere and the earth’s core. His music, especially this composition, sends me to all the beautiful pockets of this untamed earth. I saw him on sixth avenue, waiting for a cab, and shook his hand and just said “thank you.” He is such an inovator and master.
Music is the key that can unlock one's inner feeling(s) that reside in some cases, dormant in our souls till that combination of melodic genius meets the refined precision of a master such as Lyle. Lyle and Pat have the ability to reach deep into our souls, and touch parts hitherto unknown. It's an awakening of spirit to be sure, what we choose to do with this gift of course is up to us. Appreciate, share, marvel at their use of time and space, how they shape the very essence of each thought, and can transfer their gift to everyone. Some of us are more fortunate than others, when we can connect on a different plain, where they bridge that gulf of time and space, it is a true connection, that we are powerless to control, we revel in every moment, the cadence, the tenor, the timbre of each note can take us to another dimension. My heart and soul become one during this embrace, and the feeling is one of pure delight. Thank you Lyle, when you gear up, there truly is a disturbance in the force, and it is heavenly, sublime. Rest In Peace in God's grace, Lyle....my friend, you are truly missed. And Pat please take care and you will remain in our hearts forever.
I started listening to PMG 1983 in San Diego while in the Navy. Brings me back to dating my girlfriend and poof married to this great woman for 32 years with 2 wonderful boys. Thank you for the ride Pat.
As long as this planet exists Pat's music will be here for future generations to listen to we will make sure !! He is beyond a musical genius his music touches the soul in a deep way 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Pat is something else he is blessed he is one of a kind he is just perfect on the giutar and just so lovely how can you not enjoy this damn music.❤❤❤❤👌
I never heard this version before...As soon as Pat's guitar came in and to the time it ended I was moved to tears. It's beyond human words the astounding beauty and emotions that this song conveys
The tune that made me discover Metheny back in the 80's, and led me to enjoy jazz music. Had the chance to see him live in 2002. What a wonderful concert! nearly 4 hours . This could not happen anymore... Lyle mays will be missed for ever, since he was a big part of the PMG sound. The memories and the pleasure to listen are still there.
Sou apaixonada por ele em todos os sentidos! Não só o conheçi pessoalmente como sempre assisti aos seus concertos quando vinha ao Rio de Janeiro! Pat vive em meu coração ❤
I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing PMG live three times, and Pat with Charlie Hayden. Having been a music major in college, I fully appreciate the professionalism of continuous practice and demanding of only the finest performance of these musicians. Nothing left to chance. Watching them is exhilarating, fun, and mesmerizing. I bow in respect. R.I.P. to dear Lyle Mays. ❤️❤️🌹❤️🌹
I am a 69 year old and only in the last month have I come across this group of fantastic musicians. Love this number. I am now hooked. What have I been doing all these years? 🤔
I know the group since 1988, (now I'm 51 year old), I had the pleasure to speek with him and the group in a concert at Valencia (Spain) in 1989, they all were very good musicians and excellent people. Never to late to discover him. Better late than never.
As many times that I have seen The Pat Metheny Group this version has got to be the most accelerating one of them all.I have followed this group for many years..Bravo !!!!
A work of Art and Genius, the Picasso guitar Linda made for Pat, all the different possibilities , and to see Pat play this instrument! This is also special for other reasons. I❤ this song, and the assemble of musicians.

Really great version, but the original version I think is the best. I seen Pat and the group do the 'Off Ramp" show in Chicago. Blew me away, although every show of his blows me away! Pat is a genius . Can't wait to see him again.
When I die I want this played at my funeral!!
My friend of fifty years just said the same thing to me!
So do I 😎😊👍
