As a wannabe jazz pianist I couldn't agree more. It's so heartfelt and sophisticated without ever "reaching". Like watching a sculpture emerge from rough stone in realtime...
I was also the same when I first listened this song 3 years ago, now I came back here, because Annie Lennox performed the same song, but no one could beat this , I recently learnt that this was originally by Sting.
@@svensvensson6705 it is hard to answer, every artist gave their best in this song, bass guitar at 1.30 to 2.47 is my favourite part not only that piano is also captivating,I am not a fan of sax , I love trumpet and clarinet more so I can't comment on that.
I can hardly think of anyone who could play outside quite like Michael. Herbie likes to do it from time to time and he does it tastefully. But I cannot think of anyone who does it with such depth, takes you out on a journey so far away outside the key, brings you back into it only to take you outside again and ultimately bring you back just at the right moment at the right place. Thank you, Michael, for that indescribable trip. Miss you. My eternal admiration.
Have you listened to Herbi’s Letters to Joni and yes I’m a Joni fan and Herbi fan but you don’t have to be. It’s a little gem but the diamond is when Tina Turner sings “Edith and the Kingpen” I like hers better than Joni’s.
This was a milestone for jazz... - I never witnessed as much competence before and probably will never again in my life. Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker are well known grandes in contemporary jazz but now come the Northern gods on top... - Esbjörn needs no laudatio, his skill speaks volumes, but also Lars on bass and Wolfgang on drums are outstanding musicians. Last but not least Nils Landgren, not just a great trombone virtuoso and singer but also a nuclear power plant for (Nordic) jazz. It was a pinnacle of jazz back then I am so thankful that I was there to witness the concert and the after hours jam sessions in the old castle until sunrise. The whole atmosphere of this festival was outworldly and so special...
What a band… fantastic performance by everyone… this vid was also my first exposure to Esbjorn Svensson; incredible pianist, and what a huge loss to the music community…
Credit to Sting he wrote it knowing that someone would play it like this. Imagine being Sting sitting back and hearing your piece played at this level. Credit goes to Sting, Chords, Melody, Lyric, Concept, Amazing. I love how Pat sat back and played it perfectly nonchalantly. Pat is a Titan, and his music is something else, for the sake of being polite, besides this.
This is jazz at its finest. Jazz musians take a good song and elevate it to another level. Pat metheny is a true jazz artist who collaborates with other musicians seamlessly for our enjoyment.
omg, they all belong to my favourite players. best pop-jazz i heard for years! love it . and michael brecker ( RIP ) may he be in the heavens departement for the icons of all times ! he was one of the best of all times, side by side with coltrane, parker, lester, miles ! god bless his soul. i got tears in my eyes. love it !
Beautiful performance by all of these great musicians. I especially liked the piano solo and the way it built in intensity from a quiet beginning to a crescendo of intensity. I have listened to this often and grown fonder with each new listening. I will listen again soon.
Such amazing piece of jazz, look how everyone works with hard intensity on his part and together it’s a composition of all together. Now one is the hero and others are just helpers, like you can see in other genres of Musik. That’s why I love jazz- the queen of Musik🤓😎♥️. And Sting was blessed 😇 by the way for his wonderful song fragile as a blue print
All of them are geniuses on their instruments. Svenssons piano is impressive in it's build up. Brecker is a monster in taking it 'outside'. Brilliant 👍 Missing a trombone solo from 'Nisse' though ...
O!M!G! Just saw this for the first time! One of the best compositions from a great artist taken to the upper atmosphere by Metheny and this band of mad geniuses! Oh, to play my bass like that! Heavenly!
Just seen this wonderful interpretation for the first time. I never experienced Esbjörn Svensson as such an extraordinary player. In his time with his trio I used to regard him more as a member of a scene those times to play entertaining Jazz grooves.
Love this bass version . il have to look and see if it is Pedro Aznar. Thanks for posting! Rip it up Lars! My children wouldn't appreciate this, but the dad does. Reminds me of wbez in chicago on sunday nights. Or when steeley dan needed some great jazz players. Becker kills it on sax.

It's good, but in origin from Sting it's the best, because his voice is unique and his bass playing is also very good. Great musician, also Pat Metheny!!!
02:30 vocals by Nils Landgren
03:43 guitar solo by Pat Metheny
05:40 piano solo by Esbjörn Svensson
09:50 sax solo by Michael Brecker
04:33 the lick
5.50 piano hammer jam.
Not Mike's finest.👎

Esbjörn Svensson's breathtaking solo is the reason I keep playing this video over and over again. It's just perfect.
I get that. I come here for the Brecker one, but yeah. ESB all the way.

Questa versione di Fragile è un Capolavoro, un opera d'arte.
Что не скажешь о вокалисте. Не споёшь лучше оригинала, лучше вообще не пой.
Breathtaking indeed , one to remember and share

Wow. Just incredible. They are all on fire...but Michael Brecker's solo is astonishing.
Unbelievable!!! Even by his standards!

Thank God we had this before Esbjorn Svensson passed away. Pat Metheny and all musicians are simply amazing.

Such an amazing performance of a beautiful song. I was blessed to have seen Pat perform with Michael Brecker and Jaco in the summer of 1979.
