Around 2005-2007 I worked as a salesperson in Germany. On one of my trips I was in a hotel, zapping through channels before going to bed. I clicked on WDR exactly and saw Esbjorn Svensson Trio, which I had not heard of. Rather than going to sleep, I stayed up watching their entire concert. It was one of the best jazz bands ever and I will always regret not having caught them live. RIP Esbjorn Svensson.
I know this video was uploaded so very long ago - I have never been a RUclips user perse, hence only watching this now. I've always love Jazz - especially Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett and many others - and E.S.T. immediately got under my skin in 2007. I have to fly a lot, and I was heading to Copenhagen from Cape Town and I try and use the time on flights to catch up on music and movies. And that's when I discovered the Esbjorn Svensson Trio and the genius that each of the musicians are and how beautifully they combine to make absolute magic. Music that immediately penetrates you on so many levels. Upon landing in London I was reading a newspaper and it happened to contain a tribute to Esbjorn beautifully, and movingly written by Jamie Cullum (if my memory serves me). I had some time to kill and went and bought my first iPod and all the EST CD's I could find in the airport and uploaded them then and there whilst waiting for my connecting flight. Most wouldnt believe this either, but I used to listen the Live in Hamburg whilst doing my long indoor training sessions for my first IRONMAN. It is so sad that his family (his young boys at the time) and his family and the world lost this musical master so soon. I regret never being able to watching and the trio live. But fortunately have your video
It makes me really happy to hear your story, specially the training for the Iroman listening to EST. I'm so happy that this video is online, though I just uploaded it, music must be shared and your comment just confirms me that.

The first time I heard them was when their CD 'From Gagarin's Point of View' was playing in HMV, London. I bought it instantly and subsequently saw them twice. Knockout both times - there was a real chemistry between the players that you seldom find.
This video is a jewell. My god, what a deal of perfection and purity is on their sound. The second theme: Behind the Yashmak, is a double bass party of pleasure. So bad destiny stoped this project, I would have keep freezing my ears on the horns to let this warm streaming play, inside me.
Just 1st time here hearing this. 61 years listening & playing. As the saying goes.."just when you thought you heard it all....". My 60 years means nothing here other than how I can "get this" after everything else that went before. Musically & spiritually - these guys are new born Gods. Nothing Less. imo You can't get pass this - it is at the pinnacle of everything. Thank You for this.
I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes... I feel like I'm going on a train trip, seeing a succession of crazy, never-before-seen scenes from history, important, weird musics through the window as I pass... there's so much to explore. So many places to alight and dwell in the ambiences that are on offer. This stop, in particular, is brilliant 🕊
This is a great example of the genius he was, when I listen to Chick Corea, or the hoards of American jazz pianist who overplay and reach way outside the box for the sake of being hip, this is much easier to understand and leaves me relaxed instead of all tied up in knots because of all the dissonance.
Hoy es un gran día para mí, ya que después de haber perdido mi repertorio musical de Esbjörn al fin lo encontré.. y al escucharlo nuevamente sentí ese cosquilleo de felicidad. Gracias a la música a la plenitud se llega!
Thanks so much for the upload. I shamefully admit that, until I came across your video, I had never actually listened to Mr. Svensson's music. Let me just say, wow... just, wow. His music has found its way into the depths of my soul. Such a master. Very disappointed to see that he has passed. The same thing (essentially) happened with tenor player Michael Brecker- I discovered his music, fell in love with it, and then not even a month later, BAM. Gone. Peace from Durham, NC, USA.
@@kategibbs6729 Yes. At the same, time, the more I listen, the more times I experience magic, and hear how much potential influence he gave to us to continue the innovation and the beauty.
