Why is there so much controversy among medical professionals about whether or not the cartilage can heal itself? It's confusing.

I was thinking I had this problem but im not sure. My knee cap has recently started to make a nice crunchy crackling sound when I step up stairs. It doesn't cause any pain if anything just a light ache. It doesn't do it when I do a squat which confuses me.

We understand - that can be confusing! Some light exercises to make sure that knee cap keeps moving correctly would be good to use now...before your symptoms increase!

Need to exercise to lose weight... need to lose weight to exercise. Lovely. 🙂
Not a comment on the video per se, I guess, just an expression of frustration. I've been finding that knee pain and exercise are tightly correlated.

I can understand the frustration! I have treated many patients in this exact position and find that often their knees are not moving correctly which makes the exercise painful (and potentially damaging to the knees). For many of my patients, starting with swimming, water aerobics, or cycling is easier on the knees and can help with the transition. Best of luck on your journey!

@@PT4Everybody Thanks! I might've found something that's effective in my case, at least at the moment-standing hamstring curls, with the instruction "raise your heel toward the ceiling as far as possible without pain, hold for 5 seconds". Apparently that motion realigns whatever exactly was misaligned, at least for a while.
