  • Junk Silver Purchase #9 - Finally adding GOLD to my Collection!!!
In this series, I take a look at coins that I am either purchasing to use on the channel or for my collection that are considered junk or "constitutional" silver. This means that I am buying them from a dealer or website in a lot that is considered to be "face value" or "melt value". Odds are that most of the coins in these purchases will be common dates and/or mints but sometimes dealers don't take the time to go through and look at every coin which means we could end up with better dates, key dates, or something rare and unexpected! This is part of the process of getting silver ready to go for my channel and live-streams and I hope that by showing you this, you can see what it is like to purchase these types of lots and go through them.
This video is about a roll of Mercury Dimes I purchased on APMEX to replace and replenish my supply for my livestream as well as to fill spots and upgrade coins in my album.

Congrats on adding gold to your collection! That's my candidate for submission. Having it authenticated by PCGS would be a great way to ensure that there's no question it is a real gold coin. Not a bad idea when gold is so often faked. Thanks for sharing - Merry Christmas!!

Sorry you don’t have a good place to go. Love my guy, he appreciates I don’t try to beat him up on price and he just gives me a fair deal. Guess those people are hard to come by.

Glad you were able to pick up ones you needed for your album. When it comes to sending in the three for grading, I would. I always like to see what grade coins will get. Can't wait to see the submission and reveal video. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Thank you very much - I think I’m going to send the barber dime, Indian penny, and gold piece in for grading. Worst case I break even and have them preserved. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I just added 24 - 1 oz. Gold Maples to my 1,350 ozs. of 90% U.S. Silver coin collection, to protect a bigger portion of my cash sitting in several banks.

@@EnigmaCoinCollector I also believe the WORST case scenario for Gold/Silver going forward is at least a 20% increase for Silver and 15% for Gold in values.

Love the Morgans. Nice pickup.😮😊1893 IHC will probably get a Brown. I think you need more Red to get the RB designation. 😊

Great pick ups ECC. As far as grading, if you like the coin and wanna protect it, why not get them graded. The IHC is probably gonna get brown designation

My philosophy is do not have any coin graded which would have a worth of LESS than $150 if it receives the grade you hope for. You made an excellent choice for a gold coin - $1 Gold were used although were a bit annoying to use due to their small size making it easy to lose (which in 1851 $1 was a substantial sum). Worth grading the Gold $1.

Gold is always good to have in the collection. Get it graded. Definitely worth it. Like you said... Preserve it. And it's really small. It would $u(& if you misplaced it. The Barber and the two Indians are super nice as well. I believe they all have a good chance at some decent grades. Might be worth your time. Super nice pick ups all around.💯👍

Congrats on a great pick up, and especially on your first gold! My first was a Canadian one gram maple leaf. I've never had anything graded myself, but were it me, I'd get the gold graded, but I'd be on the fence about the Indian Head penny. I've seen too many videos of them coming back brown or "Questionable color."

Nice pick ups! I'd definitely grade the gold. Always nice just to get them certified, plus it looks pretty gemmy. Not sure about the 93 IHC. I could just be missing it with the lighting, but I couldn't really see any luster.

It was hard to show it through the plastic cardboard holder. I think I may send it since I would about break even if it’s brown. Worth thanking chance.

I would go ahead with the grades. I think you'll be happier if you get them graded. I suspect the Indian Head will grade Brown, but it's still a great example. Glad to see you buying a bit of Gold as well. I think, as we age, we should allocate a bit more of our stored wealth or purchasing power into Gold versus Silver. Premiums on fractionals can be intimidating, but given the trajectory of Gold, I just don't think that premiums are going to be meaningful in the long-term. Since you're collecting more so than stacking, I'd probably try to stick with the pre-33 Gold, if you go that route. Either way, you've got some very nice pickups!

Good pick up on the barber dime. It looks XF45. The 1880 O looks cleaned. The 1897 O might be higher end AU to me but could have been cleaned as well. I think the 1893 Indian cent is MS63 BN but could be the lighting and holder as you say. You got a steal on the $1 gold coin as it looks at MS62-63 and those sell for a high premium. When you get gold but continue to buy silver you kind of start to realize gold outperforms silver at least that is my experience even though overall I have profited on both.

I personally wouldn’t get any of them graded, they would be just as easy to sell raw vs being graded + you’ll save yourself $30-40 a coin.
Maybe I’m saying that just because I don’t get coins graded just because it’s “worth it.” As a dealer, if we got every coin that would be “worth it” graded, we would lose thousands every year on coins we could just sell raw. As a collector, it is of course your choice on what to do.
I also never use PCGS price guide for values since it’s never what coins actually sell for. For example on the gold dollar, auction records are just over 2/3 of what the price guide says.
As to what I would grade the coins, I would put the Barber dime in a high VF (30-35) the Indian in a 62BN and the gold dollar in AU58
