    These Mercuries have been turning up often lately whenever I check those CoinStar machines. I suppose their slightly different weight to current-day clad dimes kicks 'em into that rejects bin below. What's really odd though is that the last two I found weren't in that rejects bin at all, but right up on the shelf by the feeder bin. One was in a neat little stack of maybe a half dozen Canadian and some Euro change, but the most recent was just sitting there all on its own. So, what this implies is that someone had fished them out of the rejects bin, judged them not worth keeping, and just left them there. Astonishing...

    • @dancerscc
      @dancerscc  Год назад +1

      I think they suffer because they are one of the smaller silver coins out there.

    • @BilgemasterBill
      @BilgemasterBill Год назад +1

      @@dancerscc If you mean "suffer by neglect", you may be right. But personally I've always found the Mercuries lovely and beguiling, even as a kid in the '60s when they still popped up now and then in circulation. I suspect many folks are just too dumb to know what's really "good". Also, we have LOTS of folks from other lands hereabouts who would have no reason to be familiar with our older coinage. I suppose they get a pass. If you're talking about "suffering rejection by the CoinStar" on account of dimes' lower weight, I suppose that's possible with a tighter margin of acceptance, though I do also find the odd pre-'64 Quarter too...never any Standing Liberties or Buffalo Nickels though. Though I did snag one of those 35% silver War Nickels a while back in a CoinStar rejects bin.

      It's dangerous to tell someone where to sell something. You just don't know if the content provider has something going on the side where they would benefit from selling your coin. I do research online (apmex/PCGS) to get a good start as to value. Then I research more.
