My first 3-4oz were sovereigns or 1/4oz brits only later did i add 1oz Britannias . I bought a full tube of 1oz gold Britannia when the usa banks started failing as i was a little worried it might come over here too. Its just for a bit of extra piece of mind as the 80k fca protection isnt a real guarantee. it maybe fine if just 1 or 2 banks fail but if many do you are all screwed.

I just bought an Isle of Man 1973 sovereign from Pobjoy Mint. My favourite coin dealer here in Denmark had one for sale and the premium was quite normal for a sovereign. I don't know if You have ever mentioned this coin and what You think about it. Beautiful and relatively rare. Only 140.000 made 1973 to 1982. Out of stock at most dealers. I collect Victoria young head sovereigns, but could'nt resist the Norseman. Maybe you could comment in a future video?

@@nathanshane8962 You're absolutely right. My fist purchase was 2 1oz Britannia coins. Very nice but I can't afford to buy those often. So after thinking about it with the premium being low on sovereigns, I thought it'd be best to buy those or a 1/4 every 3 months to add to those coins. I'm partially considering buying mostly 22carat as I like to play with my coins, or combine 22 and 24carat and just mess around with them regardless. I might even try a 1/10 but I get the feeling compared to a 1oz or 1/4 they just wont feel and look all that amazing in hand because of being tiny, whereas the 1/4 are still a proper coin in hand but not sure as I've never had a 1/10. I might get 1 like a random design to try out at some point. Have a nice day and ty for the advice🙂👊

The increase in premium that you pay for fractional Gold is directly proportional to your preservation of the largest possible universe of buyers when it comes time to sell. You cannot assume who the buyer will be for your metal in the future, and you may not have easy access to anyone who can afford to buy a full ounce of Gold. You're always better off to stay under 1 ounce of Gold, despite any savings in premium that you might see. Anything that can be accomplished by a 1 ounce piece of Gold can be accomplished by two 1/2 ounce pieces of Gold or four 1/4 ounce pieces of Gold, and those pieces will be far more liquid and easier to move on an individual basis than your 1 ounce piece of Gold. I wouldn't say that you should NEVER own a 1 ounce Gold coin, but I would own large numbers of 1/10 and 1/4 ounce Gold coins, as well as at least several 1/2 ounce Gold coins, before I would ever countenance the purchase of a 1 ounce Gold coin. People will dismiss what I'm saying, for the most part, until the practical realities of trying to sell or move Gold become apparent in a crisis future that may or may not have all of the outlets we enjoy today. Just sayin'...

Being fussy, (OCD?), about condition, I unfortunately had to avoid British bullion gold unless I could inspect it first. I would have loved to acquire the QB series in 1oz gold, but I was only able to get the completer in MS70ish condition. I did manage to get all of the 2023 1oz Britannia/Coronation coins. My main acquisitions have been Canadian proof gold, which is available at bullion prices on the after market, though I do have quite a string of British proof sovereigns starting in 1979 and continuing up to 2002, all being available here at bullion prices. My older sovereigns range from 1833 to 1931SA, missing only 1916 in the London George V series. I do have a complete set of first portrait Elizabeth sovereigns in high grade. I avoid the modern bullion sovereigns with the highly polished look, hence the emphasis on proof coins.

My first 3 ounces I bought in one ounce coins. Of course back then spot price was $1200 and California has a dumb law that if you bought over $1500 (it’s now $2000) you don’t have to pay taxes.

@@tonywillis1533 Yes, gold is still hugely underpriced when you consider the quadrillions of unfunded debt worldwide, inflation, not to mention the growing geopolitical risks and war. Gold may be at all time highs but it’s still underpriced. Gold is currently very early into a bull market and the upside potential is huge. Any dips in price are smaller and very short-lived. Get in now and acquire as much physical gold as you can to protect yourself against what’s coming…

Where I'm from, fractional gold is incredibly liquid.
The main shop I go to can't keep 1/10th ounce coins or smaller in stock.
People don't care about the extra premium.
It's just a much higher number of people that can/will spend the smaller amounts than the full ounce or larger pieces.
I've been into the $5 US commems for the low premiums & the Perth Mint stuff just because I like it & it's sought after.

I recall somebody mentioning bullion by post having the highest premiums but offering the best quality coins. I have had some of my nicest from Bullion By Post and none that were in any way rough. It can be look of the draw though maybe I've just been lucky. Their service is fantastic I've been using them since 2018.
I do buy from others too and have had nice ones from others also. Had a few rough ones out of other dealers but on the whole reasonable coins.
If you get familiar with some of the smaller dealers or a local store you can perhaps get to see coins before you buy them. Not everyone has a local store though, you might and if so I'd definitely pay them a visit.
Buying on the 2nd hand market if the seller has good photos and is trustworthy you might get to pick and choose a bit. Obviously be careful if going down this route.
