I would only buy the silver eagles and the pure gold at spot.

Only buy the real silver and gold bullion coins… would not get any of it graded as others have stated.

I WOULD STRONGLY RECCOMMEND GETTING ALL OF THAT GRADED BRO

No I wouldn’t grade those! Only grade pre 1933 gold or pre 1964 silver in verrrry good condition.
It would be like grading a bunch of valiant and image comics
I would only grade if you love the collection for sentimental reasons.
      Imo

no opinion on buy/not but just wanted to comment that i appreciate the topic change. while "collecting" coins (and comics) on/off for several years im an amateur at best for both. just thought it was cool to see something different and from a person with similar knowledge/interest. i esp liked your analogy to a 90's comic collection, lol, seemed spot on. i like what you do sticky. keep up the good work and happy holidays.

AND TO CORRECT MYSELF WHEN I SAY GET EVERYTHING GRADED I DONT REALLY MEAN EVERYTHING (I JUST GET EXCITED WITH THIS STUFF AT TIMES SINCE I BEEN COLLECTING SINCE BACK IN 2008 BECAUSE OF MY GRANDFATHER) I JUST MEAN TO GET THE ACTUAL SILVER & GOLD PIECES GRADED BUT I WOULD DO SOME RESEARCH ON EVERYTHING ELSE BECAUSE THERES A MARKET FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL THING IN THERE, I SHOULD KNOW I BEEN SUBMERGED IN THAT WORLD FOR A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME NOW AND HAVE SEEN EVERYTHING.

IM A COLLECTOR/PRECIOUS METAL COLLECTOR MYSELF

Hello Sticky, raw silver & gold are pretty good, just be sure not to get overcharged based on "collectors" value, such as a specific coin & specific year, rather buy in bulk by metal. Especially with those coins not all gold, it's good to know the mix of other metals. I'd tell them to take the coins to someone that's has a spectrometer, which will tell you the exact metals, % in the coins, then you can research the rarity of those other metals online.

No disrespect, but this is just a cookie cutter entry level collection that was probably bought at a much higher price than the value.
It seems like something on network TV that they push for $1,499 with zero interest, while promising great returns in the future.

If it’s legit silver / gold , I would buy it . The dollar is imploding, nows the time to invest in precious metals while there’s still time .

Some rough comments here. You should always research what you are buying first. If you are uncertain, pass and yes, there are still coin collectors out there!

The spot price of silver on Sunday is $23.276 (it will change when the market opens very soon). Dealers tend to charge a hefty premium on silver eagles and so when they are selling it for $30 and the value is $23 you can calculate the crazy premium. That being said, for eagles (or Maple leafs or other benchmark coins) you can usually get a little more than spot when you sell it back to the dealer. The premium on gold is usually very small. Gold has historically been a better investment than silver, but that doesn't mean silver won't eventually go back to over $45 again. I still put most of money in stocks (s&p 500 index fund like VOO or SPY) but I would wait for the next pullback in stocks. Just my opinion (as a random internet guy)

Didn’t realize the mark up was that high

No, I wouldn't buy it. Unless you get a really good deal. I have a coin and stamp collection that I can't sell. In fact I don't even think I could give it away. Those kinds of hobbies are just for learning something and for owning a piece of history. Not many people collect stuff like that anymore. Comic book collecting is much different.

I know very little about coin collecting. I've just recently started reading up on coin grading. I'm searching for an 1864 2 cent piece for a gift.

HARD PASS - only pay SPOT price for Gold/Silver coins - NO markup - bullion SPOT price ONLY - other coins face value only. Otherwise, let him get LESS money at a coin shop.
