  • Samsung TV’s can be a bit finicky when it comes to power. Here is what to do when your Samsung TV won't turn on, or isn't working:
    (timestamps)
    00:00 - start
    00:45 - power standby light
    02:05 - power-cycle your TV
    04:22 - power-cycle your remote
05:07 - reseat the power cord in the back of your TV
05:47 - try plugging your TV into a different power outlet
07:08 - make sure your TV is on the correct input source
08:14 - hardware issues (T-Con board, main board, power-supply board)
If none of these fixes work you might want to pull up your warranty and see if it is still valid, otherwise you’re stuck buying a new TV.

I was ready to order a power supply board when I saw your video. THANK YOU!!! Your advise to pull plug, disconnect surge protector, and reset WORKED wonderfully. We pair over $400 for our un50tu8000fxza Samsung TV 3 years ago and we were distressed that we may need to discard it. We are retired and $400 for a new TV would hurt. Thank you again for selflessly sharing your expertise with others.

    This works!!
I have a Samsung LN S4051D that, out of the blue, wasn't turning on and no standby light at all. My power button on TV is on the front bottom middle and standby light is on the power button. This button hasn't worked in years.
I unplugged it from both the wall and back of TV, held power button down 15 secs then actually waited 20 mins before I plugged everything back in.
But mine wasn't instant, it took 30 mins before the standby light came on and I was finally able to turn on TV.
But thank you SO much for this video!!

Your steps for troubleshooting which of the internal boards was the culprit were perfect (blank screen, but sound was good)!
    I replaced the T-ConBoard - nope, and then the Powersupply-board - Bingo!
Also - best advice - take the back of the TV off and TAKE PICTURES to make sure you replace the board with the EXACT board (because there are different revisions, etc.).
Thank you for the advice. I really did NOT want to throw out a 62" TV.
Less than $100, and it's back in action. Thank you!

Phew!!! Just fixed my old 32" Samsung that suddenly stopped working a few days ago for $0!!! Had a black screen of death with a steady standby light. No picture, no sound. Power cycling the TV did the trick! None of the other videos I watched (a bunch I tell 'ya) told me about holding in the power button for 15 seconds to discharge the power from the capacitors. Thanks so much for providing this valuable info!

All good advice! I left the room and my tv was blacked out when I came back. I didn't know if the red light meant it was powered on or off. I started pushing buttons on the remote and checking all the cables and power connections. At one point I had sound but I must have changed the source with all the button pushing so now I know the red light is standby I will try the resetting again. Really frustrating just having the power button and the remote. My other TVs all have multiple buttons on the side or bottom. Looks like I'll be going to Walmart!

By the way, unplugged tv waited 30 seconds and then plugged back in I did try to turn it on with the remote... again blinking light 6x TV's 5 years old I am going to buy a new one and then try to find the PS board and connect it up... from the looks of it the cost will be about 50.00 if I can get it to work... I'll put it in a guest room.. Thanks for the video... wish it had worked but that's life! Have a great day

Yesterday my 7 year old 50 inch samsung tv went black screen in my living room. i was taking my lunch break and decided to watch my workout videos. The screen went black had sound. Followed the same exact instructions. Failed. Now my tv cannot turn on and there is no sound. I even plugged in different outlets and checked my circuit box in the basement. No avail. I believe that something has burned inside the tv. The funny thing is that the tv in the living is barely used. This was the first time in months that i used the tv. I ordered a new samsung remote and plug and try that if that doesn't work. i can return it. I have feeling that i may need to buy a new tv when it goes on sale. Thank god I can watch tv on my phone for now.

This was helpful in that I understand the behavior of the standby light. I've been able to determine that the TV is "on" and responding to remote inputs, but the screen is black. I just have to keep trying to turn it on and eventually the picture will come on. When I've had to do this, the volume is always at zero. Is this any kind of clue? Should I give up and just buy another TV?

Appreciate the video. My Samsung UN55NU710D is now working, but the remote is *almost* completely NOT working as the Mute button works. That's it!
So, it was "completely dead" until for the 6th time I went looking for a Power Button and found "something." This TV has a single button (not mentioned in the manual) under the bottom in the middle, below the Samsung nameplate. I pressed it (after trying some of your suggestions including the Power Cycle) and Smart TV showed up. After a bit of a boot up sequence (showing me my Home icon bar but not able to choose any of them), the TV is simply on.
When off (or on), there is not red LED. When back on via the hidden Power Button, I can cycle thru basic options by pressing that Power Button and, once at Source, I can then press & hold to select the next Source.
Given all of this, what do you think is a probable repair? And what does T-Con stand for?

Mine was doing this. Before I watched your video I tried unplugging and plugging back in and pressing the power button for some seconds etc. My last resort was to give the TV a hard smack with my finger tips at the bottom right hand side next to the power button. That immediately worked. Its currently fine but If it does it again I'll try your proper approach. I really like my 50 inch Plasma Samsung and would rather fix it than replace.

Hi. Unfortunately nothing worked for my UE40H5570SS.
BUT: Apparently the only problem is my remote control. Once I take the batteries out and switch the TV on with the button at the right backside (opposite the red light), everything's fine.
Once I put the batteries back in, the red light starts to flash and at the lower left side it says "Nicht verfügbar" ("Not available").
So what does that mean? I tried several different batteries. Will a new remote control help?🤷‍♂️
Update: Bought a new remote control and everything's working now. Fixed.

Had my Samsung 55" for 12 years, I didn't want to give up the 3D. Problem started about a month ago. Stuck in standby, flashing red light, clicking noise. Click...click...
The ol' unplug didn't work...messing around with the buttons didn't work. Guess what amazingly DID work, and keeps working 😂
I got so frustrated after trying everything, that I BANGED the tv with the fleshy part of my fist. IT CAME ON 😂😂😂😭😭!!!!!!That "woke" it up, LOL 😂!
That screen lit up, I couldnt beleive it, I was unplugging, holding down buttons, for days! Not with a hammer, or any blunt object, just take the fleshy part of the side of your fist and joilt the tv with a hard bang! Might have to do it multiple times. "Wakes" the tv out of whatever is going on with the standby or motherboard. Not just one spot. Bang it near the red light, in the middle, far left corners. Not sure where "the spot" is, choose a different location.
Tv's good for a couple weeks, until the next standby issue. Then I'd leave the tv on, and dont do the standby. The cable box changes the screen, so theres no burn-in ghost imaging.
The new Samsung 4K Qled 55" is coming in two weeks, the Samsung rep cut an irresistible deal, I had to take it. But getting my precious 3D set to work while I wait for it warms my heart 😂.
I was gonna throw it away, but it's going to the bedroom, while the new tv takes over the living room 😂. No troubleshooting exercises, no $200 repair bill, just a simple fist 😂! Who'd have thunk it!

None of this worked for me. My TV just turned off randomly while watching something. When I try to turn it on, I hear an audible click from the One Connect Box as if it just turns itself off straight away.
