- Samsung TV’s can be a bit finicky when it comes to power. Here is what to do when your Samsung TV won't turn on, or isn't working:
(timestamps)
00:00 - start
00:45 - power standby light
02:05 - power-cycle your TV
04:22 - power-cycle your remote
05:07 - reseat the power cord in the back of your TV
05:47 - try plugging your TV into a different power outlet
07:08 - make sure your TV is on the correct input source
08:14 - hardware issues (T-Con board, main board, power-supply board)
If none of these fixes work you might want to pull up your warranty and see if it is still valid, otherwise you’re stuck buying a new TV.

The power cycling worked great, thanks so much!!!
I was ready to order a power supply board when I saw your video. THANK YOU!!! Your advise to pull plug, disconnect surge protector, and reset WORKED wonderfully. We pair over $400 for our un50tu8000fxza Samsung TV 3 years ago and we were distressed that we may need to discard it. We are retired and $400 for a new TV would hurt. Thank you again for selflessly sharing your expertise with others.
Mate you have explained your steps in fixing a black screen for a Samsung tv in a professional and easy to follow way, it was a pleasure watching your video and a big thanks to you my tv problem is fixed.
This is one of the best and most through videos we have ever seen. EVER! Haven’t tried these fixes yet but wow so detailed. Thank you. You took nothing for granted. Fantastic. Whether my tv works again or not, thank tou
Wow, thanks!
Thanks very much, your clear and step by step approach worked for me. Interestingly , it was switching to another power outlet that did the trick after first going through your other options - who would have thought !
…thank you SO much 😭😭I had tried everything , bought a new cord , left unplugged forever and had just accepted my 2 year old tv was screwed but THIS fixed it after months using my laptop to watch stuff , thank you soooo much 😭
Power cycling as you directed worked for me! Thanks!
I appreciate it, buddy! Step 3 worked perfectly, smooth as a whistle.
Thanks again 😄
This works!!
I have a Samsung LN S4051D that, out of the blue, wasn't turning on and no standby light at all. My power button on TV is on the front bottom middle and standby light is on the power button. This button hasn't worked in years.
I unplugged it from both the wall and back of TV, held power button down 15 secs then actually waited 20 mins before I plugged everything back in.
But mine wasn't instant, it took 30 mins before the standby light came on and I was finally able to turn on TV.
But thank you SO much for this video!!
Thank you so much. I was getting so frustrated. Draining the power worked!
awesome work and very detailed. really appreciate it. unfortunately I think my TV is dead but I appreciate the work that was put into this video. Thank you!
Ditto
Terrific ... saved me going out and bying a new T V for noqw
Thanks so much.Your instructions did the trick. TV came on after unplugging cord and holding in power button then switching outlets. Thanks again
I went through all you steps and it now turns on OK . thank you so much
Thank you for very clear instructions on how to reset the power(reboot). It worked great.
I worked and worked finally figured it out the power cord came unplugged..Thank you😊
Your steps for troubleshooting which of the internal boards was the culprit were perfect (blank screen, but sound was good)!
I replaced the T-ConBoard - nope, and then the Powersupply-board - Bingo!
Also - best advice - take the back of the TV off and TAKE PICTURES to make sure you replace the board with the EXACT board (because there are different revisions, etc.).
Thank you for the advice. I really did NOT want to throw out a 62" TV.
Less than $100, and it's back in action. Thank you!
Followed the steps & found I need a new power supply. I'll price it before deciding, but now I know what's wrong thanks to this video.
Whoa. The best video out there. I’ve been on this for hours. Thank you. I guess I need a new tv. lol
Thanks so much, your advice worked perfect. God Bless.
Thank you for helping me. Everything was useful.
This worked! I had to go through to the remote reset but that did it! Thank you! 🎉
wow just tried it with the remote and it worked! thanks!
Phew!!! Just fixed my old 32" Samsung that suddenly stopped working a few days ago for $0!!! Had a black screen of death with a steady standby light. No picture, no sound. Power cycling the TV did the trick! None of the other videos I watched (a bunch I tell 'ya) told me about holding in the power button for 15 seconds to discharge the power from the capacitors. Thanks so much for providing this valuable info!
I tried all the steps, but nothing worked. The TV squeaks like a mouse when I try to turn it on with the remote or with the power button. No sound or picture, just the internal squeak.
Thanks for the help troubleshooting this POS. I will give it all a shot and let you know how it went. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! You helped fix it. You just save me hundreds of dollars.
Thank you so much was about to send tv in for repairs but yr skill worked God bless you
Thanks this worked perfectly!
Thank you soooo much. I just did what you suggested. Located powerbbutton, held it forb15 seconds, unplugged TV from surge protector, took plug out from back of TV and then plugged the TV directly to the wall. Also did the same with the remote. Voila! It turned on. Thanks again.
Awesome!
So super helpful 🙏
Thank you soo much for this video. I just Unplugged power cable from the back and plugged it back after 30 seconds it worked 😃
You're welcome! I'm glad it worked!
This guy is a genius! I did the power cycle and it fixed the problem,tv is back on.
Awesome!
I moved my Samsung to another room... would not turn on. Found your video... pulled the plug... found the manual power button and held it for over 15 seconds. Waited 30 seconds, then plugged it back in... and voila! It turned right on. Thanks so much, there is no way in hell I would have figured that out...
Thanks. I tried everything and taken the power lead out from the back for 30 seconds, and it worked 👍👍👍👍
Glad it worked!
Unplugged method got mine back working thank you so much
Great to hear!
Thank you! This worked!
IT WORKED!!!! My power light was flashing red and my TV kept cutting on and off. I unplugged the tv. Held the power button for 15 second then released it. I then waited 30 seconds and then I plugged my TV back in and it turned right on. I was afraid I would have to buy a new one lol. Just saved a lot of money following these steps💰
Great! It's always good when you don't have to replace it!
thank you !!!! i am a complete novice at tv care. so easy to understand and it worked !!!
You're welcome!
Awesome video! just fixed mine remote as it wasn't working. Batteries out and power button off for 30sec did thr job! thanks
Glad it helped
Thanks you! Cycling power off worked.
Glad it worked!
Thank you, it helped a lot
Phew😅. Brand new QN85 b. Took it out the box, set it all up
on the instructions It says to turn it on with the remote but nothing was happening. The red light at the bottom right of the TV was on. I had a look. Couldn't see a button but after watching your video I had another look. And yes, where the Samsung logo is on the bottom right There is a tiny little power button. and it's all good. Thank you!
Amazing this worked for me!! Cant thank you enough ! Was about to order a new tv! Think my issue was the double plug a socket. Followed all instructions how to rest ! It worked!! Thanks again x
Glad it helped
Thanks I did everything by step and step and it work thanks boss

Ahhh man thank u. I was sweatin for a min . awsome. Thank You. Cheers
No.3 solved my problem. Thanks...
Fantastic!
It work perfectly, thanks
You're welcome!
All good advice! I left the room and my tv was blacked out when I came back. I didn't know if the red light meant it was powered on or off. I started pushing buttons on the remote and checking all the cables and power connections. At one point I had sound but I must have changed the source with all the button pushing so now I know the red light is standby I will try the resetting again. Really frustrating just having the power button and the remote. My other TVs all have multiple buttons on the side or bottom. Looks like I'll be going to Walmart!
Good tips.
Thank you Robert!
Thanks it work
Extremely well worded....you should teach others transparency... unfortunately out tv is shot...we may try the boards you mentioned....does any of that requires welding?
We thought you was Jessie from breaking bad! Thanks
Thank you
You're welcome!
Man hurry up, the mrs is missing Masterchef
Mine has worked.. awesom
That's Right, that's right, You BAD! You da Man!!
Your the man !
Thank you so much 😢
You're welcome!
In my case, if I plug and unplug the TV and hit the button it’ll eventually come on …sometimes takes five minutes. Do you think it just might be the power source cord?Thank you so much for video….
Yeah you just saved me a few hundred dollars 😂😅
Thank you so much sir 👐
Thanks, had too many things plugged in. Had to turn the new fan off 😡
Thanks it worked
Awesome!
Great video.... tried everything and all I get after every step is a blinking red light 6x I do not have any red light at standby more either.... my guess the PS is gone. By the way, unplugged tv waited 30 seconds and then plugged back in I did try to turn it on with the remote... again blinking light 6x TV's 5 years old I am going to buy a new one and then try to find the PS board and connect it up... from the looks of it the cost will be about 50.00 if I can get it to work... I'll put it in a guest room.. Thanks for the video... wish it had worked but that's life! Have a great day
Let us know if that worked for you!
Yesterday my 7 year old 50 inch samsung tv went black screen in my living room. i was taking my lunch break and decided to watch my workout videos. The screen went black had sound. Followed the same exact instructions. Failed. Now my tv cannot turn on and there is no sound. I even plugged in different outlets and checked my circuit box in the basement. No avail. I believe that something has burned inside the tv. The funny thing is that the tv in the living is barely used. This was the first time in months that i used the tv. I ordered a new samsung remote and plug and try that if that doesn't work. i can return it. I have feeling that i may need to buy a new tv when it goes on sale. Thank god I can watch tv on my phone for now.
Thank you! Loose power cable on the back of the TV.
You're welcome, I'm glad you found your fix!
This was helpful in that I understand the behavior of the standby light. I've been able to determine that the TV is "on" and responding to remote inputs, but the screen is black. I just have to keep trying to turn it on and eventually the picture will come on. When I've had to do this, the volume is always at zero. Is this any kind of clue? Should I give up and just buy another TV?
Second time & it worked for me
Fixed it, actually took a few attempts and I believe it was because of the power bar. Thanks a bunch 👍
Power cycle worked 🎉
thnankyou so much bro now i can play ds3, im gonna name one of my minecraft allays after you :D
Appreciate the video. My Samsung UN55NU710D is now working, but the remote is *almost* completely NOT working as the Mute button works. That's it!
So, it was "completely dead" until for the 6th time I went looking for a Power Button and found "something." This TV has a single button (not mentioned in the manual) under the bottom in the middle, below the Samsung nameplate. I pressed it (after trying some of your suggestions including the Power Cycle) and Smart TV showed up. After a bit of a boot up sequence (showing me my Home icon bar but not able to choose any of them), the TV is simply on.
When off (or on), there is not red LED. When back on via the hidden Power Button, I can cycle thru basic options by pressing that Power Button and, once at Source, I can then press & hold to select the next Source.
Given all of this, what do you think is a probable repair? And what does T-Con stand for?
Thanks for the video, we just got this samsung smart TV in Nov 2023. It's off and the power light is blinking so I'm guessing it's the power capacitor.
Mine was doing this. Before I watched your video I tried unplugging and plugging back in and pressing the power button for some seconds etc. My last resort was to give the TV a hard smack with my finger tips at the bottom right hand side next to the power button. That immediately worked. Its currently fine but If it does it again I'll try your proper approach. I really like my 50 inch Plasma Samsung and would rather fix it than replace.
Wow. The Hard Smack was the only thing that worked ( as usual)
Ty for this video.
Yesterday I tried everything, nothing helped me.
Left tv plugged in overnight & this morning hit the power button & voila! It powered on.
You maybe mean "unplugged" overnight?
steps were easy to follow - I don't think I want another Samsung.
Ok my Emerson flat screen is almost 10 yrs old and has a black screen on it, but sound. Was working fine 2 days ago. I used a flashlight and vaguely see the images and light and picture. Is it black light failure and just time for a new TV. Because I'm not opening the back of that or even trying. I do leave tv on all night while sleeping.
Long press on main power button worked on my ln-s4692d. Prop something on the button, and go do something else, check after 15-20 minutes.
could the outlet or the breaker be at fault if the standby light is on?
Ive done everything you suggested but my controller is not communicating with the tv. The tv comes on when I push the power switch but can't get further. Hardware problem? Worth fixing?
TEch companies love to add features every single year but they cannot make a vanilla TV that wont break ridiculously often.
Hello, Samsung TV will not turn off...can only use power strip which also controls cable box. Replaced rear switch, BN96-35345B and tried TV and remote resets. Did not help. Any ideas.. Thanks.
Thank you! Fixed my daughter's TV and saved me from buying her a new one!!
You are super beautiful...
Excellent! I'm glad you saved some money!
My tv is working and sometimes it wont go on again and the picture is blinking and black..
Iv had my tv used for everything over the 7 years it's sad to see my tv slowly die
But another problem is it turns every couple hours one and off
And after it turns off automatically I can't turn it on my self so I'm forced to wait hours to turn on so I can make use of it but I guess it's the inside failing because I've had it for 7 years. And it hasn't been cleaned
So I did the 30-15-30 trick and it worked the rest of that night. The next day the TV wouldn't turn on again and it also started to click red light blink twice then click again. 30-15-30 trick did not work. Does this mean I possibly have bad capacitors?
Hi. Unfortunately nothing worked for my UE40H5570SS.
BUT: Apparently the only problem is my remote control. Once I take the batteries out and switch the TV on with the button at the right backside (opposite the red light), everything's fine.
Once I put the batteries back in, the red light starts to flash and at the lower left side it says "Nicht verfügbar" ("Not available").
So what does that mean? I tried several different batteries. Will a new remote control help?🤷♂️
Update: Bought a new remote control and everything's working now. Fixed.
I replaced the power supply board because the screen would not turn on. Now the screen lights up with SmartTV. Then turns off. Cannot get the menu up. What should I replace next? 2016 samsung un65ju6500 smart tv
After resetting the Verizon menu w sound comes back on normally than disappears and then there’s some of the picture at the bottom. That disappears and the red light continues to blink. Any advice on that issue would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely worked for me 🎉
Great to hear!
which method?
Thank you 💪
You're welcome!
Mine suddenly went black. The sound is audible but black screen
I have a solar remote that won’t work to increase the volume. I tried the pause rewind and I can’t control the tv manually either. Beautiful picture just can’t get sound by remote or manual. Neither one is working I wanted to turn it off but without remote and manually not working. I wouldn’t even have a picture please help. 2/24/2024 830 pm
I completed the power cycle, but my tv cuts in for about a min then power off/dies and won’t turn back on. I completed the power cycle 3x and same results. Please advise what to do next?
I got up to the flashlight steps and when I turned off my light and turned on my flash my tv just turned on🥳
Had my Samsung 55" for 12 years, I didn't want to give up the 3D. Problem started about a month ago. Stuck in standby, flashing red light, clicking noise. Click...click...
The ol' unplug didn't work...messing around with the buttons didn't work. Guess what amazingly DID work, and keeps working 😂
I got so frustrated after trying everything, that I BANGED the tv with the fleshy part of my fist. IT CAME ON 😂😂😂😭😭!!!!!!That "woke" it up, LOL 😂!
That screen lit up, I couldnt beleive it, I was unplugging, holding down buttons, for days! Not with a hammer, or any blunt object, just take the fleshy part of the side of your fist and joilt the tv with a hard bang! Might have to do it multiple times. "Wakes" the tv out of whatever is going on with the standby or motherboard. Not just one spot. Bang it near the red light, in the middle, far left corners. Not sure where "the spot" is, choose a different location.
Tv's good for a couple weeks, until the next standby issue. Then I'd leave the tv on, and dont do the standby. The cable box changes the screen, so theres no burn-in ghost imaging.
The new Samsung 4K Qled 55" is coming in two weeks, the Samsung rep cut an irresistible deal, I had to take it. But getting my precious 3D set to work while I wait for it warms my heart 😂.
I was gonna throw it away, but it's going to the bedroom, while the new tv takes over the living room 😂. No troubleshooting exercises, no $200 repair bill, just a simple fist 😂! Who'd have thunk it!
None of this worked for me. My TV just turned off randomly while watching something. When I try to turn it on, I hear an audible click from the One Connect Box as if it just turns itself off straight away.
Open tv up and check capacitors
