Vizio TV Won't Turn On | Proven Fix

- If you have a Vizio TV that simply won’t turn on, do the following:
(timestamps)
00:00 - start
00:19 - power-cycle your TV
01:44 - power-cycle your remote
02:14 - reseat the power cord in the back of your TV
02:56 - try plugging your TV into a different power outlet
03:41 - make sure your TV is on the correct input source
04:19 - hardware issues (T-Con board, main board, power-supply board)
If none of these fixes work you might want to pull up your warranty and see if it is still valid, otherwise you’re stuck buying a new TV.

THANK YOU!!! This is the 4th isssue I’ve had with my Vizio. I’ve only had it 2 months. I am returning it this week. DO NOT BUY A VIZIO. And if you still can, just return it and get something else.

My dad was an electrical engineer. You are really thorough! I got my TV from my aunt. I’m 54 soooo everyone including the TV is old now. I’m still getting black screen of death. Not a financial problem at $100 replacement so new side bedroom TV will be purchased. Thanks so much for your in depth info!
Thanks. I was looking for this subject a couple weeks, but no situation videos showed up. Now, months later, your video just popped into my feed. I just subscribed. I have just been unplugging and plugging it back in, since I have a 32" set.
Your video is awesome and fixed my TV. The screen was lighting up, but no icons; it stayed black(ish) but the panel was 'gray'. I for the heck of it turned the volume up and down on the remote and it showed feedback on the screen... but then started working. Thanks for your help! Cheers- mike

Just tried it and it seems to have worked like a charm! I have a Vizio smart tv and it would turn on but not load the home page. First time in months I’ve been able to actually use my tv. Thanks!
My power light comes on then logo comes up then it goes down & the power light fades. Any suggestions?
Thanks, it worked . . . sort of. I have to push the ON/OFF button, on the TV, several times before it 'takes'. The small white light bar ( on the front of the TV) in the chrome trim, will come on for a second, then when I let go of the button it goes off and 'dies'. I have to press and hold it several time to get it to turn on. Plan to do more of the tests you recommend once it gets dark.

My Vizio TV has Control Board problem. In particular, the two ICs under the heat sink have soldering problem. So far, using heat gun at the devices for 2-4 minutes seem to melt the bad solder joints and heal the problem. This process requires removing the back cover of the TV

Question with my Vizio that is a black screen without image. I am wondering if the fact that the Power On LED light (on the front panel) does not come on is a factor in making the correct diagnosis? Otherwise, at this point in my diagnostic attempts, I am suspecting the T-con board. Appreciate any help and keep up the good work!

I discovered the power plug that plugs into the back of the TV wasn't a tight fit when it was plugged in I took pliers and squeezed the connections in the plug and made them smaller causing the plug to fit tighter into the TV it worked for me hopefully it works for others as well

The first option unplugging TV for 45 seconds and then pressing the power button does work, but only 1 time. I have to redo every time that I want to watch the TV. Any thoughts

Would this work when your TV plug is connected to an extension cord? The Entertainment center is way too heavy to move?

Well that got the tv back on, but now neither the remote or the buttons on the back of the tv work. This vizio has been nothing but trouble since I got and Vizio's only answer is, It's out of warranty

The TV's on the TV is on in upper right corner it is your storage is running out of space what do I do
Now, what if you have to power cycle it every time?
What if the green led light comes on but the tv will not??

Exactly, as in they downloaded an upgrade which is crap. This is my third Vizio and this fun by far is the f****** worst-ever I want to go to my I have fire stick at can't get on in the local antenna is jacked customer service attempts to help but they f***** up
My tv turned of bye it’s self but the only thing that happened was something got unplugged so I looked this up
Mine comes on, shows the logo, goes to a semi-black screen. Screen is black but u can tell it is on. Stays this way for about 2 minutes then shows a screen save photo and locks up. I have 2 new remotes and the original remote. Fresh batteries. Still no deal.
Cannot change channels
This trick used to work, not anymore. Now it requires being unplugged 3-4 hrs to bring up the screen.

Sorry to hear that...likely a power supply board issue. Either will need to replace that board, or buy a new TV.
I have the same issue, just replaced the power supply but its still doing the same, sometimes the power light comes on and becomes dimmer until its off, sometimes it blinks for a while then turns off, no image, does this mean its irreparable?

No such luck here, ran through your steps 4 times and still black screen. Th8s Vizio TV is only 1 & 1/2 years old and doesn't get used too often, I'll never purchase another Vizio television! Thank you for the diag tips, however.

How do I get back to my RUclips channels in subscriptions that should have not been removed I had surgery I can't search cuz it wants me to join gmail which I don't want to and it says enter my gmail address which I don't have one and I don't want one how do I watch my goddamn RUclips station not the pay stations the free ones without having this issue I'm very pissed it's been 2 days now and I hate this new freaking TV
For ~$25 you can buy a new power board and replace it. It's a simple fix and takes 15-20 min to do. You save $300-600. Seems like a waste to throw out a TV because of one bad board you can easily replace even not being a handyman type.

I have been playing around with his freaking TV and its remote for 2 days now getting nowhere technical support restarted from factory blew out kicked out all my favorite channels and subscriptions and now it's asking me for Gmail I hate Google I don't want anything to do with with Google I have been watching it for years with Vizio TVs and not encountered this issue I hate Google I do not want to use Google I do not want to use my crappy cell phone
