- Bic Cristal Xtra Smooth ( amzn.to/2RAgXAg ) vs the Papermate InkJoy 100ST ( amzn.to/2JHxuj8 )... FIGHT!
My pick in the 1.0mm size is the Papermate! But my favorite of them all is the Bic Xtra Bold 1.6mm: amzn.to/2Qmljuy . It's a true classic and a ton of fun to write with.

Back in the late 60s early 70s the Bic Crystal pens had a solid brass cone not a cheap plastic cone like the Bic Crystal pens have today !
Hi, late comment but a couple of points: a removable ink reservoir and nib is useful if you find a pen with a broken barrel, perhaps from being trodden on, quite common in a school or college environment, and your own pen is almost out of ink. Recycle, don’t throw away.
Also, I notice that the particular papermate you show has an opaque ink reservoir which, unlike the bic, makes it difficult to see how much ink remains and renders the transparent barrel redundant. For lovers of old school audio equipment, the bic was the ideal shape to manually wind audio cassette tapes when they became unspooled and tangled. A pencil would also work but not, I think, the papermate.
Back in my school days, late 80s, I would find BIC pens everywhere, I would change the nibs ect to get them going, I had quite a collection of free BIC pens at one stage.
I have both in front of me, and I really like the way that the InkJoy writes. It's just that I don't like its triangular shape or its thick girth.
Love the triangular shape that paper mate uses on certain series of their pens!
do you know why Bic has a hole in the cap? the answer is: children were very often swallow this cap and after many death cases Bic was enforced to make a hole in the cap to allow breathing through in case you will swallow it and it will get stuck in the throat or trachea.
Exactly right!
I recently purchased a 10 pack of Jot pens ar my local Family Dollar store. These are not bad at all. They write very smoothly. The ink flows well. Hexagonal shape and clear barrel just like the Cristal. I was pleasantly surprised. You cannot go wrong for $1 for a 10 pack.
I looked for the Bic Cristal Xtra Smooth in the UK, but for some reason they only sell them as the Bic Crystal Creative set with weird colors. Purples, pinks, and unusual blues. No standard colors. The closest we have is the Papermate FlexGrip 1.4mm.
I've got the Schneider Slider Rave ballpoint wishlisted so I can try it eventually.
I agree that the paper mate is the better pen. I still use the Bic pen, however.
It's got to do with the love ❤️ we develop for Bic pens.
Bic has a big plant in Brazil and is the best seller here. I love the Bic Cristal 1. 6 mm. I write a lot every day and this is my choice. Best regards, Mário
To note, in Brazil for the customer the Cristal is still cheaper than the much simpler Round Stic.
I fitted the Papermate Inkjoy ink cartridge in the Cristal Bic body, just for fun. I did it because I saw that in the UK, they have a needle point bic cristal pen(ultra fine), but they don't sell them here in the US, which sucks. Out of the two, the Papermate is better.
I prefer papermate on paper. Bics have always seemed gritty and inconsistent when writing. They remind me of cheap bank pens.
For me Bic Cristal is better.
It's more ergonomic, his body es translucent and allows for ink control, ink flow is constant, no ink drips when starting to write.
Bic is trustworthy!!
Thanks for your videos!!
When it comes to ballpoints bic has it down, the best, gell defiantly pentel ernergel and zebra sarasa dry. I have had nothing but unreliable paper mate ballpoints, bic always writes first time every time, the ink in the papermate kilometrico is very dull compared to the crystal.
Oh I thought the Paper Mate was a gel by how long it takes took to dry But they are ballpoints ooh a dry smudge test would be cool idk if it’s in the video spaced out asmr style
Quite some time ago you (I think it was you) said you would demonstrate how you 'spin' a pen. Are you still planning on doing such a video?
Hey Sal. The first line in the video caught my attention immediately: "So, in this video I wanted to do a shoot out between these two very POPULAR office pens." Widely used? Sure. Popular? I think not. For something to be popular, it has to be enjoyed by the majority. People are forced (it's all that's offered) rather than volunteer to use these pens. I've been working in the same office for the past 17 years with a minimum of 70 people, and I can assure you that these pens are not well-liked. I can't imagine these pens winning a vote between either a Pilot G2, Signo 207/307, or Pentel Energel, all readily available at any local stationery store. If I had to choose between them at work (never have to because I buy my own office pens; if I have to write all day it has to be with a pen I enjoy), the Bic would win for two reasons: it looks a bit more "professional" (if one could describe it as such) and it's offered with a 0.7, more precise tip. What I do like about the Paper Mate is what you do not, and that is because the cap stays on much more securely than the Bic AND it's a "cuter" more "fun" looking pen. This particular Paper Mate is also sold with a stylus at the end making it more functional which is something I like. While at home and during extensive note-taking I switch between a few pens with the Paper Mate being one. I've used Bic pens years ago and don't care for them. Sorry for the long comment; I'm passionate about pens. Thanks for the posting!
What do you think about the Bic Cristal Soft 1.2mm? It seems to write smoother and have a more bold line than the 1.0mm, but it isn't a gigantic line like the 1.6mm.
It’s a nice middle point. I prefer the 1.6 but yea, it’s a bit much at times
@@unsharpen Nice! I was starting to have some buyer's anxiety set in because I got more 1.6mm pens than 1.2mm. I feel better now, though.
Nevertheless, bic is still the best pen in the world...
In Brazil the most used color is blue and in your country?
Hard to say. Likely blue as well
@@unsharpen here i would say 20 blue for 1 Black
Watching this at 3AM.
Hi Sal, can you also compare the Artline Smoove 1.0 with these pens? Thanks!
I preffer the paper mate. I think It is more smoth. Both are sold here in Brazil. Best regards, Mário.
Great video!!!!
I don't really like papermate but if I had to choose out of those 2 ones it would have to be the papermate
Sorry but I don't see any differeces
Bic is reliable and simply the best quality ballpoint ever made.
BIC GANG HERE
What an AWFUL calligraphy
