The whole point of Mary Jane's character is that she's had to look after herself her entire life. The entire reason the "The Wedding" story arc is strung out for so long in the comic books, is because Mary Jane takes that long to accept that it's OK to let Peter love her and she doesn't have to do it all on her own anymore.

The stark contrast from mj in the first movie asking “who are you?” To mj asking the same question in this movie, and tobeys replies from “your friendly neighborhood spider-man!” To “I don’t know” is absolutely haunting, and a great detail from raimi, is show of great directing and writing. It’s what makes his movies a great representation of how raimi understood the character and shows how much passion he put into his projects into this frachise. This is why tobey is and will always will be the definitive spider-man

@Phoenix Chandler even Venom himself (Eddie Brock, comics) isn't evil. He eventually became a hero. He does kill bad guys though, which makes him an anti-hero.
Also, there are other heroes who use symbiotes, like Agent Venom (Flash, Peter's bully-turned-friend/ally)
Honestly, it depends on the person. Mac Gargan got the symbiote, and he was already a villain, but he got worse.
I wouldnt say straight up evil. The symbiote makes the host more aggressive and amplifying their darker side. Peter being super kind hearted didnt fully become bad but it did make him more and more aggressive and he finally realized in this scene he was changing for the worse. So he took action. When Brock got the symbiote, since it makes the host aggressive and amplifying everything he became fully bad. Especially since he just admitted in this scene he wanted to kill Peter.

This scene is simply amazing. After Peter embarrassed MJ and broke Gwen's heart, it shows how far he's come. From a friendly shy boy living with his aunt and uncle, to this. I love whenever he hits MJ the sound effects focus to the hit and her falling on the floor. The music that starts playing as Peter realizes that he the one in the wrong. MJ's question to Peter can be taken in multiple ways, but I like to think that the man she's seeing right now isn't the man that she loved, isn't the boy who lived with his aunt and uncle. This is something else. Peter being shocked by the question and responding with the, "I don't know..." really shows off Tobey's amazing acting. And then he looks down at the black suit and realizes this is what it is, whenever he has the suit on he is a brand new person, he went out and "murdered" sandman, he went, he blew up half of his best friend, but most importantly he hit the woman he loves. And then realizes he has to take it off. Simply an amazing scene.
The symbiote can take over anybody not just Peter Parker. He was never himself the whole time since he was Black Spider-Man

This scene shows how controlled Peter is even when he’s out of control. If he were truly hitting these people full force they’d be dead with the kind of strength he has. He has trained himself to hold back so well that it’s second nature at this point.
It's interesting though. He only pushes the security guards but when he hears MJ's voice he strikes. He was so angry at her and maybe didn't realize how much until that moment.

The novel, and the original movie ending that was changed makes it very clear that apparently the suit tries to mentally control its host, Peter subconsciously pulling above the mental white noise with his enhanced senses several times. Eddie however with no powers almost immediately is mind controlled, and after just touching the suit starts to catch it in his mouth, throwing his hands above him like a ritual and laughing manically, it slowly turning into a roar

MJ took an angry punch from spider man and not only is her head still attached to her body but she's completely fine. MJ is super human.
It's a pretty short shot, but the part at 4:11 where Peter lies down is so powerful for me. To me, the way he clenches his fingers on the ground signifies the total relief he feels successfully getting the suit off and that he can be himself again. I can't even imagine how liberating that must be.
Also, I like this scene's use of religious imagery. Someone in another video I saw with this scene commented about how the church is a good place for this scene because Peter is "redeemed from his sins," so to speak--a very good point to make; it's very powerful. I feel like the shower scene at the end adds to that. He wants to take one because he's tired and wants to feel better obviously, but it reminds me of baptism and how people are "reborn" in the water.

The most underrated thing about Spider-Man 3 (2007) is that although it is heartbreaking to see Peter Parker turn into a hateful monster after being under the effects of the Symbiote suit, at the same time, it is actually quite satisfying to watch him stand up to those who gave Parker such a hard time in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, especially with Peter's landlord and J. Jonah Jameson.
But J Jonah Jameson secretly love Peter Parker and he knew about his uncle that's why he helped him and all of his threatening of fire Peter was actually fake even Peter knew that his boss will not firing him seriously.

The symbiote sensed Peter’s hatred for Sandman who accidentally killed Uncle Ben…that’s why it bonded with Peter. But once Peter realized the Symbiote was extending his hatred of Uncle Ben’s death to others that’s when he realized the suit was influencing him. He knew he had to get rid of it. So the Symbiote bonded to Eddie due to his hatred of Peter.

What's so sad about this scene is that you can't see Peter Parker, the adorkable nerd who saw MJ as an angel and liked helping others. That Peter would have never done what Bully Peter did here.
Peter hitting Mary Jane was clearly an accident.
He was already in a fight with the bouncer and then she decided to try grabbing him from BEHIND. Odds are Peter probably thought it another bouncer who grabbed him instead of Mary Jane.
And no, it doesn't take away from the impact of the scene because if Peter hadn't given into his darker urges by wearing the suit then he wouldn't have been acting like such an ass meaning that there probably would've been no fight and Mary Jane wouldn't have felt the need to intervene.

I have to admit, although they could have made the villain reveal into a cliffhanger ending (yes I'm a part of that group but never I have dismayed any of Sam Raimi's and Steve Ditko's decisions in this movie and trilogy as a whole), they handled the Church scene beautifully.
The screams of Peter as he rips apart the Black Suit and that, that first screams of Venom? They still haunt me. It's a terrific scene; grim but with a sense of uplifting on Peter's end, and whole new level of horror on Eddie's end...

I enjoy the irony in this situation, he must’ve felt like he was popping a zit or a boil while getting that suit off, painful at first, but so relieving afterwards. The symbiote may have made Peter look cool at first, but his strong feelings got the better of him when he assaulted employees at the jazz club and accidentally slapped MJ in the face. That's when he realized he was wrong about the symbiote and needed to get rid of it.
Everyone's talking about how evil Peter was while he was under the influence of the symbiote but this was really the first scene where it actually went too far.
Prior to this at worst he's just a jerk and at best sometimes he's standing up for himself, albeit a bit more aggressively than necessary. You have to understand that Peter prior to the symbiote was a fantastic human being who took a lot of people's shit.
