  • Episode 596. AMADOR Whiskey sources Bourbon and Rye out of Kentucky and finishes them in wine casks, usually sourced from California. I was drawn to their Rye & Port, but it may be this Wheated Bourbon in Chardonnay casks that captures my interest. #amador #bourbon #whiskyneighbour

Love the Chardonnay finished...I enjoy anything finished in those casks usually. Out of my market now so I have to travel to find it.

I was sure the Rye would be my favourite, but the Chardonnay is really good here!

Nice review for a new distillery. I agree wholeheartedly you - Milam & Greene has a great port finished rye. I keep replacing it when I finish a bottle. Cheers!

Thanks for kind words. Glad you can find and enjoy the Milam & Greene too!

This Bourbon is nice and the Rye makes a nice Revolver cocktail! Have a great weekend Jon! I agree about the Rye but it does so okay in some cocktails. Cheers!

I could see it in some cocktails for sure. Thanks for dropping in, hope you are well!

I have tried a couple of their expressions in a hotel bar in Texas a while back. I recall it coming out of mini-barrels that sat behind the bar. Certainly was good but their lower-proof and the unlikelihood of finding the same finish and characteristics kept me from looking for them in stores. Your review gives me more info to find one I might like. Thanks, Jon!

I like the idea of mini casks in bars though. Might bring me out more often if a bar suddenly had just the right amount of additional oak!

    Hey, we're back!
Will be playing catch-up on reviews as I get the chance, so expect comments to trickle in over the next week.
Haven't had the opportunity to try any Port ryes, though I've been keeping an eye out for the Milam & Greene. Hasn't appeared here yet, and it may not.
Interesting take on Amador. Sometimes lighter offerings are simply better, and often they're easier on the pocketbook. Win, win.
Trip was absolutely brilliant. Weather there is about two weeks behind Ontario, which was fine as it's been very warm and humid here. Not sorry to have missed some of it.
Sadly, Glenora Distillery on Cape Breton doesn't open to the public until June 1st so we skipped that leg of the journey. Will possibly head out there again later in the year, I'd very much like to do their full tour at some stage.
Hope all is well at your end...
    Cheers, my friend! 🥃🥃

So thankful the trip was excellent for you. Cooler spring weather is just about my favourite, I'm not a humid/heat person! I am enjoying the Chardonay a fair amount, actually would be a good summer dram I think. Thanks for dropping in, and I look forward to catching up through comments!

Interesting company ... sounds like Saints Alley, the Liquor Hound/IronRoot collaboration that sources most of its bourbon. Angel's Envy turned me off of port-finished rye, but the chatter about Milam and Greene's port-finished rye has me interested. Cheers!

I have not tried any of the Saints Alley releases, but the story online sure makes them sound good! I Love Milam and Greene, really good stuff!
