Penelope just sold a lot of bottles with this video! So glad you tasted five different versions. With allocated bourbons so hard to get,it's nice to know there are many other worthwhile choices out there.
Sold out of the Rose' Cask. I tried to order directly from website 2 weeks ago. Bummer.
A Milk tasting sounds fun. It should be done blind i think. Skim vs 1% vs 2% vs whole. If you want to go even deeper you could add in organic and even deeper you can add in the grass fed factor. of course there should be straight from the cow as well. Ohh and sheep vs goat vs cow milk. I think you could do a series on this!
I saw the gleam in Kurt’s eyes….😊
It’s going to happen…
I totally agree.. the whole line is solid … and once again, you guys are the most enjoyable bourbon channel on RUclips
Strawberry and floral notes are very common in rosé wine, so I have a feeling your tasting notes were spot on, Kurt. Sounds fantastic! And I'm all on board for a milk tasting! 🐄
I've always described Penelope Rose Cask Finish as "Whiskey I would serve at a garden party." Glad y'all are on the same page.
If I attended a garden party I’d kick my own ass. ✌🏼🇺🇸
I just ran into this video, the same day I purchased a bottle of Penelope Rose Cask Finish. After a few sips, I picked up the notes of floral/strawberries... picked up some bubblegum on the nose. So perfect!
My favorite Penelope I've had is the Valencia. It turns up the natural orange flavors bourbon has. Great review!
It’s very good!
Base model is 2-3 years, architect is 5, BS is 4-6, toasted is 5, rose is 4-5. Very detailed and romantic. Thanks for sharing
Guys, my wife caught me watching the video & made me buy the Rose cask. She loves Rose wine. I paid $62.99 + tax.
The Penelope Toasted is amazing but each bottle can be super different because different bottles have a different Toast level and a Different Char level. Also stores can do store picks and now you've got 3 things that make the bottle super unique and one of a kind
Ive had a store pick that was in my top 5 bourbons of all time of the toast char 3 and ive had a char 3 that was just kinda okay.. so far they have all been good but ive had 1 that was super strong allspice smell and taste. Was a little overpowering and the proof was only 110 instead of the 114-115
How does the toasted compare to the Michter’s Toasted Barrel Rye?
I'm Fanboy of Penelope. Arch5 is a great toasty oak. Agree 5-7 yrs would probably put these over the top for me but great daily sippers and appreciate the finishes. Great review Kurt and Trenton.
I love the toasted. I get banana, vanilla, marshmallow, milk chocolate on the end. Love Penelope!
Penelope is doing great things and blending/finishing very well. To your point, hard to beat their pricing as most bottles fall in the $60-75 price range depending on the store.
Would suggest a few other bottles to be on the lookout for once they begin widespread distribution in Indiana:
- Light Whiskey (13 year, 128 proof)
- Valencia bourbon (finished in Vino de Naranja wine casks, 97 proof)
- Tokaji rye (finished in Tokaji wine casks, 107 proof); part of their Cooper series
- Toasted BS rye SPs (5 year, ~115 proof)
Cheers!
Great video. I've been wondering about the Penelope, so this review was helpful.
I haven't heard of this brand before. But in the last two weeks, my brother-in-law raved about it and a lady in line at my local liquor store couldn't wait to but another bottle of it.
I can speak towards Penelope. My Bourbon group we have an extensive line and series with Penelope. It's phenomenal.
I have heard good things about it myself!
@@ryant.5173 my Bourbon group we have a whole toasted series and they are all 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@ryant.5173 my Bourbon group we have a whole toasted series and they are all 🔥🔥🔥🔥
If I were to try my first Penelope, which would you recommend?
@@ethanmarshall2957 I would recommend the toasted or architect. Two different flavor profiles but will give you an idea where the juice is going.
Can't wait for the Rio release
I was just searching for one of these on your guises page yesterday. Excellent timing.
I will keep my eyes open for any of these. Great video gentlemen! Keep up the awesome work.
These are my favorite episodes. Love the blinds but honestly like it better than blinds honestly just because it's so informative and runs the whole lineup. Makes it easy to see where the price breaks are...IE figure out where you get a lot more for spending a little more and where it's not worth spending that little bit extra within a lineup.
I have seen Penelope here in Ohio but have not tried it yet. I will have to check out what is available and pick one of these up. The rose cask finished sounds really nice. Thanks for another great show.
My favorite line, love the architech build 1 or 3. Thanks for the info on the rose cask, can’t wait to try it
Vinolok capsules are easy to open. First, grip the neck of the bottle with your hand and wedge your thumb between the capsule and the bottle. Then gently push your thumb upwards. I hope this helps.
I cracked open my Penelope Barrel Strength Chicago Summertime Toast Bourbon Whiskey for New Year's Eve. Char 3, heavy toast.
Delicious.
Doing some binge watching of older episodes. Good stuff as always from both of you…and mom too 😀
The Toasted is my favorite for sure. I have a BourRye that was a pick from them that's awesome as well 👌🏻
Ok, let me just say that this is my favorite YT channel by a furlong. I don’t know if it’s hiding a microphone or what, but the cuff on Trenton’s right sleeve is half flipped up in about half of these videos. It cracks me up. You guys are awesome though, in all seriousness. I am an intermediate bourbon lover. You have taught me so much about how to drink and what to seek out in a nose and a flavor profile. Please don’t ever stop posting content!!
The Party Source in Northern Kentucky carries Penelope. If you’ve not been there yet, it’s definitely worth a trip. And as an added bonus, New Riff Distillery is right next door.
Glad to see this overview. As a NJ native I see these alot. Excited to try more of their bottles.
Also from New Jersey I just got the barrel strength for 68.99
I’m glad you guys reviewed this company! One of my favorites. Buddy of mine showed me the white bottle
I was hoping you got the chance to review the Valencia bottle but I know that one is pretty tough to get. Especially if IN doesn't distribute Penelope products yet. Great video as always. I am a big Penelope fan!
Y’all know how much I love Penelope!
Nate, with just another year to r two aging these bottles would be other worldly! As is they are very good!
I just bought my first Penelope which is the Architect. I was worried about my decision until I watched you all's video. Thanks, you guys made me feel better about the decision to buy.
Great review boys! A local liquor store carries Penelope Architect and a few others...going out today to pick some up! I'm hoping they have the Toasted...generally a fan of toasted anything. Cheers!
I love their toasted...mine is actually a Single Barrel pick from "Exit 9 Wine and Liquor" from NY and is delicious. I ordered the Rose Cask finish... can't wait to try it. I would say that is true that the are a little cheaper than Nulu but they are also 1-2 years younger which is something to keep in mind...both brands are delicious...
Wow, I just picked up a bottle of the Penelope Toasted over the weekend and it is every bit as good as you said. At 100 proof, it has a bit of bite on the fist sip but then it mellows right out. I got a lot of nutty notes on the finish.
I just tried my first Penelope and it was barrel strength. I liked it. Looking at grabbing a few more
The irony of Penelope using MGP but not offering distribution in Indiana is pretty funny.
Right??!
Great video guys, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this brand. Looking forward to Penelope making it's way to northern IN.
Picked up a barrel strength toasted and it’s fantastic.
Great review guys. I only have one of the Architects and I really enjoy that, so this gave me a good idea of what to look for next. I'm thinking the toasted if I can find it. Keep up the great content and the laughs. Cheers.
Try this with the toasted. Nose and taste a pour. The add three dops of water to the 1 ounce pour and swirl/stir. Let it sit for for a few minutes and taste it again. The caramel note comes out pretty strongly.
I really enjoy the toasted and barrel strength red bottle. I have the architect #4 and everyone I know seems to enjoy it but not up my alley. Keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks for this review. I’ve only had the Architect so I’m interested in trying the toasted and rose.
Pretty common in the Milwaukee area, the Valencia is great, the Aritech build 3 is ok...the toasted barrell strength is on my short list of must haves...
The 7 is nice with the french oak staves!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊
What a great line of bottoms... Loved everything except the 49% barley edition
Was on this train early......friend who knows his stuff.....never looked back. Their base white label is EXCELLENT. Rose Cask.....delicious.
Kurt and Trenton...Thank you! I have tried 3 bourbons new to me in the last month and loved them all. 2 were introduced to me by you. One was Knob Creek 9 year! Loved It! The second was Penelope Barrell Strength....I have the 115.6 Proof! Great. The Third you may not know being in Indiana. It is Dad's Hat! It is a Pennsylvania Whiskey. I had the Rye (there you go Trenton!) that is aged in Vermouth Barrels. Wonderful.
@TimKurtTrenton22 looks like I was chosen. Very cool. What do I need to do?
Plz do not respond. These are scammer bots trying to trick you into taking your money!
The Rocky Mountain Select Barrel Strength is also part of the toasted series. This stuff is 115 proof and absolutely smooth. Love it.
Penelope is definitely solid. I did a barrel pick there, Mike and his staff are great.
I highly recommend picking up the 13 year light American whiskey from Penelope if you see it. You won't be disappointed. Keep up the great channel gentlemen.
I have almost every penelope available. I love them
In Iowa you have to do a border run to get some Penelope. This was super informative so we can look for the ones we think sounded great - I am definitely eyeing that rosé cask.
Fantastic distillery line review!! Trenton’s palate is one I trust when considering spending on a new bottle! Cheers Gents🥃🥃
For the glass topper use your thumb push topper to the side to release the pressure then should come right off
Thanks for the Penelope reviews. I have two that I bought on a suggestion from another bourbon conesieur I met while looking for something new. Haven't tried them yet.
Great vid! The Penelope Tokaji is an amazing rye that not a lot of people are talking about. Hope you guys can find it next time ur in IL
I got a Penelope Toasted recently... I like it. Pretty good stuff. Fun episode, like usual, guys!
Big fan of Penelope. Thanks for the review.
Haven't had a chance to try any Penelope yet. Excited for an Indiana release.
I'm not a fan of expensive mgp but that toasted Penelope was awesome the bottle was empty faster than one of my eh taylor bottles I got mine for $65
I haven't seen any Penelope in my local stores but I really wasn't looking but the 3rd bottle has peaked my interest.
You need to tilt the glass cork. Push it up from one side and you should be able to rock it off. If that makes sense.
Nice to see the varying tasting opinions from you two. Your a great team and unlike any other whisky review channel on You Tube...….Cheers!
Big fan of the toasted!
Love these distillery videos,
I get Heaven hill, Jim beam are probably too big but would love to see those too
I really enjoy the Architech #3 and Barrel Strength. I am going to pick up the toasted and other Architech builds.
I’d love to see a video like this for Chattanooga Whiskey. Best craft distillery I’ve had!
Never really heard of this brand. Very cool review! Thank you!
I got a bottle of the Rose' today and wow y'all were spot on with this. It is an amazing finished bourbon!
Glad you like it!
LOL! Just bought my first bottle of the Architect #3 yesterday! Love the show!!
Can we get a battle of the blends? Penelope v barrell v four gate etc etc etc ??
Penelope was recently sold to MGP. Hopefully it will still be high quality at a decent price
I have a bottle of Penelope Batch 10 coming my way. Got it through a blind tasting subscription. It’s good stuff.
Nice!
I’ve been picking up Penelope recently a lot I just can’t get enough of that rose cask. Sadly the rest of the cooper series is hard to obtain in Ohio other than Valencia wish we could get some rio up here
So. Five months late, but FINALLY someone said something about the cork. I thought I just had a weird bottle. I use a flathead screwdriver and work my way around the edge giving a slight twist like you would a paint can. Nice review!
I have the architect #4 and you can definitely taste the oak. I picked up my bottles in TN since I’ve never seen it in MS.
When I first tried the Rose, I wasn't a fan. Came back a week later and somehow I'm now in love with it.
I’ve had that experience with multiple bottles. True phenomenon once the neck pour has passed, the bourbon gets better.
Excellent review; this is a great sipping Bourbon. I've had it for about two months and paid approximately $69.00. I will be on the hunt for a backup bottle very soon. I'm also in NJ, so I'll let you know about my finds. Bourbon Awareness
Guys, you all put out some good content and the vibe always comes across wholesome in a way. Nice job. I was curious on the rose cask if you all got any grain notes? Ive got those notes on the other expressions but haven't picked up the rose yet. Thanks
KURT!!! TRENTON!!! This was a great video!!! Ive seen Penelope in the store, but now I have an idea what's in that bottle!!! CHEERS!!!
The Architect 3&4 and the Toasted char 3 are phenomenal. These are my go to pours.
That rose is fricking amazing! About the best finished whiskey out there. Very hsrd to get tho.
Another great video gentlemen. Can't wait to see the milk blinds 🤣🤣🤣
I bought Penelope Barrel Strength last week. I get a Spicy Potpourri on the palate and candy apple on the nose. I enjoy it.
Early on i was anti-mgp. But i think that was confused with brands that got ripped apart for not disclosing it. And some brands were just not doing it right even with good staring juice. I'm about flavor to value. If it's good it's good. I just need to decide how good it is based on reviews to try it. I've been disappointed with a few things where i didn't read the label and hadn't heard a review. I've done that twice and already forgot about them. Keep on guys. Sagamore is one brand i love and was MGP juice but bourbon junkies said one version might be in house. Transparency is awesome, good is always good at a good price. When the price should be more then it's that much better.
Whole/vit D milk is like the barrel proof version lol. Drink that and go back..2% would be like 80-90 proof. Low fat/1% becomes just white colored water.
I really enjoy your videos and as a milk drinker there is a difference between 2% and whole milk lol thanks for the information you share
I live downtown Chicago and have noticed these bottles on the shelf at Binny's. Based on your reactions I think I might go for trying the Rose Cask Finish or the Toasted!
Architect, Rose and Toasted are definitely must haves on my shelf at all times. Great juice!
I've never tried Penelope, Do they beat OF 1920, MM 46 Cask, or Rare Breed?
Love Penelope. And I think it’s fairly priced 😊
Nice video yall!! I have a lot of Penelope in my area but I can't bring myself to buy any. But the architect sounded good so I might buy some 😁😀👍🏼
I picked up the Barrel Strength. VERY good!
I really enjoy Penelope. Their Private Select Barrel Strength is very good.
I have been enjoying the Architect. It's available for about $58 at SPEC's in my area. The other offerings are also generally available here in San Antonio, TX. Cheers!
I'm glad to see this one. I have 8 different bottles of the Penelope label on the shelf and haven't been in them all yet. Trenton, I'm waiting on the edge of my chair for two more references, sloe poke and sugar babies. You know you've been in that car. ha-ha
Haven't tasted a Penelope that I didn't like. The barrel strength batch 22 was superb.
I love these distillery review videos.
Having had a lot of Penelope products, they're all great. But the Barrel Strength is my favorite. And don't sleep on their Rye with Tokaji finish.
Penelope is great! Some bunker worthy picks in their line for sure!
