I didn't have success for 3 years after going Whole Food Plant-Based no oil, no sugar. But Dr. Greger's 21 tweaks finally helped me. Apple Cider vinegar and amla and the spices have done wonders for cravings. I work at night and don't sleep and drank a lot of caffeine and used things like mouthwash and all of those things turn out to increase insulin resistance and blood sugar spikes, so until I added in the amla and apple cider vinegar and spices, I would eat High Carb Hannah's broccoli potato soup and I would still feel like I was starving after 7 or 8 cups of it and then, 2 hours later I would have rebound hunger and sugar cravings. I no longer have rebound hunger and now 3 cups of the vegan chili I made filled me up. I had never experienced satiety until now. 3 years into this process I finally started losing weight.

I hadn't been craving anything. Then a friend stopped by and dropped off some ooey-gooey pastries. A lot. I tried to say, "Not so many" and "We can't eat that many". They were left here anyway. I thought, I'd freeze them and then every once in awhile if I felt like one, I'd get one and thaw it. But no, they were looking at me. And they go so good with a hot cup of coffee. And I spiraled. I ate three. It was garbage night, and I was glad - I chucked out the ones that were left. I knew if they'd stay in my house, even frozen, they'd call me. I know I would not be able to resist. So, yes, get stuff like that out of your space!!

I had cravings for something very sweet a couple of days ago and managed to satisfy them by eating dried plums or dried apricots. They were very sweet but also have fiber. Eating more veggies has also helped me a lot.

THIS WAS GREAT! I think for me I need a plan. I have 2 teenage boys that eat. all. the. time. I will occasionally get them treats so completely removing things from my environment is hard, even if I move it, I know its there. If I have something ready in the fridge or freezer than I can usually handle the craving. And keeping the consistency is key. Once I slip back into a bad habit i have to work twice as hard to stop it. once you invest the time to rewire your thinking, dont mess it up!!

Thank you Chelsea, this is a great video. I also think realising that you are a human being and eating healthy is always going to be difficult regardless of where you might be on your WFPB journey. OFC ice cream is going to taste better than steamed broccoli, but if you follow the WFPB lifestyle, then these foods become LESS palatable and you crave whole foods more. BUT these highly palatable foods will always be around us whether we like it or not. Food is just food and we need to understand it while giving it less meaning and intense emotional connection in our lives, as to make us feel like inherently 'bad' or 'evil' people.

I'm honestly surprised you don't have WAY more subscribers. I'm currently 285lb and I've started watch your videos. I lost 5 lbs this week (I don't expect this to keep up), but so far, I've eaten more veggies this week than I normally do in 3 weeks. I'm not veagan, but like to see veggie options to cook that aren't "Hey this thing cooked this way is just like meat", because it is never like meat. So far, my favorite thing to eat is a baked potatoe, salsa and greek yogurt. Sounds obvious, but I've started cooking with a lot less fat thanks to you (oil and butter) and only adding it when I think it's needed (and only a tsp or so). Please keep this up. Hopefully in a year I can say I'm down to 220lb.

HERBAL teas… or green/black teas… can be craving killers! Sometimes after a big dinner I almost crave sugar just to perk myself up.
However, I realize I don’t truly need sugar after a huge meal.
Tonight I ate loads of lentils, brown rice, garlic 🧄 onion 🧅 and broccoli 🥦
I felt a little sluggish from fullness and considered a little coconut based ice cream sandwich. Then I saw I had already made myself a nice warm cup of Stash Dragon Chai tea 😊 🫖 It’s just herbs, no green or black tea so it’s perfect for late at night. PLUS these teas often help stimulate digestion! It has ginger, cinnamon, clove.
I thanked my past self who made the tea and realized I was already full of carbs and ate fatty foods as a snack earlier in the day (yogurt with peanut butter and fruit!). So I really didn’t need the extra fat and refined sugar close to bedtime.
Herbal teas and teas in general can really work wonders… So long as we don’t do what my younger self did and add a bunch of sugar or coffee creamer 😊

It is hard to change my environment because I am vegan and my husband is the typical USA diet eater. BUT I do make sure his foods have their place in our kitchen and my foods are seen by me easier. It helps tremendously. I wanted to have something of his earlier but instead I ate a banana and a avacodo. Good filling fat and a filling banana that had also been filling and full of sweetness.

You might either have magnesium deficiency or blood sugar issues. That is what I have learned. I used to think that I was addicted to chocolate and I gained 100 pounds on it. But someone said that if your body craves something you might have a deficiency and I started making sure that I had enough magnesium and the chocolate cravings lessened. Then, when I used glycemic support from amla and apple cider vinegar, the cravings for sugar went away. I didn't know how many things can cause insulin resistance. Working night shift can cause it. Not sleeping enough causes it. Using mouthwash causes it. Eating too much fat or sugar causes it. Drinking soda causes it. Too much caffeine causes it. I thought that I was safe because I was whole food plant based vegan no oil but I had so many other risk factors that I needed extra support.

absolutely right! And that´s why always try to be in a deficit doesn´t work on the long term run. Our body works in such complicated way and it´s hard to look inside from the outside. The best would be to never come in a place (trough diets and calory counting) that our body thinks he must store every extra calory because maybe tomorrow he´s starving again!

Hi Chelsea Mae, thanks for a really great video. I need to change my environment, but not always easy with a family...such as the birthday cake in your fridge. I'm gonna try to fill up more on the good stuff too. ❤🙏😘

this comes in the best moment! Will try to deal with the craving by eating something different than what I crave! I am already at the point of craving fruit instead of sugary stuff but will try up my veggies with some creamy meal or a comfy soup! Let's see if my brain can change! Thanks for the inspiration

Thank you!! I don’t have a background in psychology but I think understanding human behaviour is the key to change.
I read a as much as I can on the subject and am always trying to learn more.

Hey Chels, this video is really helpful. I have a question, what if the food isn't in sight. But the thought about eating these foods types of foods enters your brain? I really struggle with this. Sometimes I distract myself and other times, I give in.

Hey Chels, thk you so much for this very well needed video!!!! I have an honest question: you talk about losing weight on this kind of diet without being dogmatic, but then, why don't you enjoy some cake or the food of your friends some times and not restrict or take own food? Do u think it would some how trigger food patterns?

    • @ChelseaMae
      @ChelseaMae  3 года назад +5

I do enjoy some cake and crackers occasionally. But I don’t want to be controlled by the urge to eat those foods constantly. It’s hard to say no to those hyper stimulating foods, and the less I do it (especially in my home environment) the less I want to.
If you’re eating cake constantly you crave it. If you hardly ever eat it you can get on with your life and forget about it.

I made the plan to only eat things like cake when I eat out. A slice of something with a coffee is far less fattening than five slices off the cake in the fridge.

100% true and definitely a strategy for environment playing a role in shaping behaviour. I’ve done something similar a long time. Keep my home environment shaping the behaviour I want and more lenient when out. Associations are powerful
